It's a restaurant that makes its own Root Beer and serves burgers. The King is not in my immediate area and it's not even in one of my regular driving routes. So I don't think of him that often. I need to change that, because the short out of the way drive is so worth it. I haven't used the car-hop service, but there are always lots of cars with the cute little tray attached to their drivers side window. So, I have it on my bucket list to try on a future visit. Perhaps, I'll bring my fur child to enjoy a plain burger. Since I don't use the car-hop, I go inside to order and eat in the small dining room. Yesterday, it was full of workers from the refinery and other local businesses. Lucky for me after ordering at the counter, I was able to snag a two top table to enjoy my meal. I normally get the Lion Tamer which has jalapeños on it, but today I went with a King Louie. It's a single smash burger and I added cheese. My topping were only pickles, lettuce, onion and a smear of mayo. I had them hold the tomato. I'm not a fan of mayo, but for some reason I like it on my burgers here at King Louie. The edges of my burger were crisp, it had an odd shape so you know it was hand pressed. It explodes with flavor, just like an old time 50's drive-in. The fries are equally impressive. They are super crispy and done to order, no fries sitting under a hot light waiting to be served. What impresses me is they are fries that still have their skins on. For me, that just adds flavor. Of course, the main attraction next to their amazing burgers is the refreshing homemade, Root Beer. It is always the perfect accompaniment to a burger and fries. Next visit, I having a Root Beer Float and really have a flashback to my childhood.

I swung by on the opening day and enjoyed some Avocado Toast and a Mimosa. Them having a liquor license to offer Mimosas and Bloody Marys is A+ for me. Brunch or a late breakfast is not complete without an adult beverage. In addition to my Avocado Toast which was excellent, I picked up a few sweet treats for friends. I got a brownie for one friend and a Cinnamon Roll for another. Both were well received, but the one who received the Cinnamon Roll, wrote me a thank-you note. Now that really says something when you get a written note for a sweet treat. Dolci's is conveniently located to my home and my part-time job. Actually, it is just across the street from my job, so I know where I'll be stopping on the days that I work. Oh, before I forget, the Macaroons here are amazing. My first visit was fairly close to closing time, so I just grabbed a couple of their pastries and went on my way. One of them that I grabbed was a, Strawberry Postcard. It's a buttery house-made puff pastry with strawberry filling and vanilla glaze. I was in love after the first bite. This is one postcard I would love to receive on a daily basis. The other pastry I tried was, Jelly Donut Focaccia Bread. It's a big square (can be shared) of lightly sweetened focaccia bread filled with seedless raspberry jam and topped with vanilla bean glaze. It taste just like a jelly donut. I am not a fan of jelly donuts, but this has me rethinking my likes and dislikes. It's a winner. My second visit, has me reevaluating my choices of breakfast out. When I arrived, every table was taken They have limited seating, two deuce tables and three that can seat four diners. Hopefully when the true warmer weather arrives, they add a few tables to the outside in front of the restaurant. Since there was no table, I got my food to go and enjoyed it before starting work. I ordered their Basic Breakfast which has, two eggs any style, fried potatoes, meat of choice and either Sourdough Toast or a Biscuit. I had my eggs scrambled and since their sausage is patty, I choose that as my meat. I was impressed that the sausage was hand pressed and not the typical perfectly shaped disc. It had a true country flavor to it. I also liked how my scrambled eggs were white & yellow. So many diners whip them until they are only a light yellow. They were perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper. For my bread, I went with the Sourdough Toast, because I also ordered B&G. The toast was lightly toasted, I would have liked mine a little darker, but the Jalapeño Jelly kicked ass. I want an entire bottle of that stuff. The Biscuits and Gravy would make any Grandma or farmers wife proud. I grew up on a farm and I can tell you, these are some of the best B&G's I have ever had. The biscuits are huge, fluffy and they were drowning in a rich brown sausage milk gravy. My eyes were way bigger than my already big tummy. I felt guilty not cleaning my plates, but my taste buds still did a happy dance. Their staff is friendly, my first visit the young gentleman on my first visit was kinda shy and quiet. However, the young lady on Saturday, knew customer service and was working that front counter like a champ. Three Crows is closed Monday and Tuesday. At first I thought it was a bad call by the landlord. Now that they are located in Elsah, I realize he did them a favor. Beau and Terri rallied and took on the challenge of relocating their restaurant. They searched hight and low and found the perfect location in Elsah, just 8 miles north of the old location. Elsah welcomed them with open arms and issued them the first liquor license in the history of the township. Since the relocation I have been multiple times for lunch. You cannot go wrong with their famous Mushroom Asparagus Soup or one of the popular Paninis. I've also been to a wine dinner that impressed me and my cousin who is a wine connoisseur. The wine and food were paired beautifully. Experiencing a regular dinner in the boutique dinning room is also a delight. Their menu changes regularly, but I must say when you see Terri's Lasagna being offered, that is a sign to order it. You will not be disappointed. All the servers and staff are spectacular. It blows my mind how many of them can remember the names of all their regulars. It makes for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Next time you're traveling the River Road, take a detour into Elsah and visit State Street on LaSalle.
