Knowledge and willing to share ingredients and labels as she helped me order Gluten/Dairy/Sugar free. We had yummy greens with eggs and turkey sausage (hold the croutons). The poppyseed vinaigrette was dairy free and just perfect. My matcha latte and Clyde's coffee latte were delicious. Troy had pizza and he loved the crust ( he had regular but they DO offer GF crust AND vegan cheese!). Sam's French Toast looked amazing in all its gluten-filled glory. We also tried the immunity shots from CJ's Juicery and they were dynamite. If we still lived here full time I'd be making the drive over from STL once a week for that breakfast salad and matcha. The menu is varied and thoughtful, altho I would love to see them find a way to offer at least one gluten free bread (I bet their avocado toast rocks!). If you didn't already know, Post Commons has added two tenants to the building. They now share this grand old post office with, Good News Brewing Company and CJ's Juicery. However, this review is about them, so let me focus on them only. If you go to Post Commons, you gotta get a biscuit. Their biscuits are homemade and they are delicious. My personal favorite biscuit sandwich is the Sausage. In addition to the sausage patty, it has cream cheese and pepper jam. The pepper jam is what really makes this sammie special. If you're wanting a more hearty breakfast, you can create your own plate with items from the A La Carte menu. I've created one with two scrambled eggs, bacon and breakfast potatoes. The potatoes are cut into little cubes and fried to a crispy golden color. It's a great place to meet friends for a cup of coffee. The staff is cordial and makes you feel welcomed. The food is generally good - I recommend the Post Toast. The coffee is pretty great and if you are around for a seasonal Spookster latte or Butterscotch latte, get one. Service is good, although when there is turnover, there can be challenges. I used to love the ambiance of this place - beautiful sweeping views, mismatched old furniture, and just really comfortable in a shabby chic way. However, young families discovered it and made it their own and now, it's an awful environment on weekends unless you love a plethora of shrieking kids in an environment that echoes sound. read more

I live in Edwardsville, but a couple of former coworkers raved about this place. I was in the area, so I decided to put in a couple of hours of work at Post Commons. What a neat place! And it's huge! They even have a rental space in the back! Finding an outlet to sit next to was a bit tricky; I think it would be beneficial to designate an area specifically for laptop users. I enjoyed a lunch of Post Toast with a sunny-side-up egg and a lavendar mocha. The toast was amazing, but I wasn't a fan of their lavender. This place is amazing! I finally made it over to Alton to check it out. I live in St. Louis city so it's a trek for me. It's a huge place with plenty of seating. They even have a private room you can rent out in the back. There was a bridal shower going on while I was there. So cute! I love the fact that it's an old post office. It's so unique. The coffee was spectacular. I got the white rose latte which was on special for February. Delicious! I also grabbed a pastry which was so so yummy. And then I had the slinger as my meal. It had a little spice to it, but it was delicious! I would definitely get it again. I can't wait to come back to this place! So many cute places for photos as well! Keep in mind parking can be a little tough if it's busy. It's street parking. There is not a parking lot. Also, there is not table service. You order at the counter and they give you a number and then the food or drinks will be delivered to your table. We went on a busy Saturday morning And the line to get pretty long. I did not realize I hadn't written a review for Post Commons yet! I have come here several times over the past few years and really enjoyed it! The location is unique as it is an old post office building that maintains the integrity of the buildings design (inside and out!) the service is always friendly and helpful. I'll have to go back a few more times to really get the feel of it but inside the building has tons of potential and they are doing a great job so far with the aesthetics. There are different sitting areas so I don't know how quite it is or isn't in different sitting spots. It was a little noisy due to little ones in the area where I was but that's what kids do lol. There was quite a bit of building materials and other things sitting around but it wouldn't stop me from going there again. Upon walking in it was a little different because you don't really know where to go until you start to look around and that's because the building is rather large. Celebrated a wedding here this past weekend. If this place isn't a consideration for any couples it should be! Just from my experience as a helper to the party, staff couldn't have be more friendly and accommodating to things we needed. They were extremely hard workers who provided amazing service to guests. Old post office conversion was very cool. Stopped by for a quick pick me up, loved the live music on Saturday morning & the fact that the lattes still taste like coffee and not just syrup! Food hit the spot! The burrito was flavorful and has everything you could want inside with a nice hint of spice in the salsa. The biscuits from the slinger were soft and balanced well with the gravy. We got the Fall Spice Latte and Dirty Chai, which helped get us in the fall mood. This space is gorgeous! We definitely understood why so many have events here and it so fun with all the antiques and pieced together finds. Super cool that they were able to convert the space and do so much good with it. Service was timely and friendly. People helped clear our table and so we weren't waiting, we got our coffee first. The wait time for the food wasn't too long by any means. The Post Commons is a great establishment serving breakfast and lunch. Coffee is their main drink but if the day calls for it-the hot chocolate is fantastic!!! We used PC as the venue for our daughter's wedding this July, 2025. The venue is wonderful and has incredible ambiance when set up. I was checking out Alton because a co-worker recommended visiting the nearby state park. However, since I started my day super late, it was getting darker when I arrived in Alton. So I ended up checking out this coffee shop instead, and boy, I was so surprised at how huge this place was. I guess this shop was a post office back in the day, so the interior is spacious. I think I also saw that it can be an event venue. I'm unsure, but you can rent this event space... Let me tell you that other than how spacious and huge this place is, they have two open bars- one for coffee and the other for drinks--what a clever way. I ordered a butterscotch latte with chai scone for a snack. The latte was so delicious, with its strong taste, butterscotch, and espresso taste. The chai scone was perfectly baked, and you can taste the chai flavor perfectly. This whole coffee shop is such a vibe. The Post is unique among coffee shops, and I have a lot of great memories here. In addition to their pretty good coffee, they have some of the most inventive brunch foods I've ever had. The menu rotates, so if you have something you love, be sure to enjoy it a few times before it's swapped for something new! Very cute coffee shop in Alton, IL. Converted from an old post office, there decor is super rustic while creating a minimalist / modern feel. Visiting on a Thursday morning, the place was pretty empty with lots of seating available. There was a nice breeze outside so we took advantage of the outdoor patio area. This place is located on top of the hill, which gives you a nice view of the Mississippi River. I ordered a breakfast burrito, which was really unique with the kimchi and a sticky rice. They have tofu and pork as options for the inside of the burrito to accompany the scrambled eggs. I opted for the pork and it was fried to be a little bit on the crispy side. I wish I had more of it, but the flavor was on point. I ordered the Americano and it reminded me more of drip coffee. Maybe they watered it down too much. I think there may be only a single shot of espresso in here so the ratio is way off with around 12 oz of water. I'd come back for the burrito but not for the coffee, at least not the americano. read more

My background is event planning (wedding, corporate, private). Over the past couple of years, I have been to Post Commons a few times and was not at all impressed. I wanted to book 2 other events this year and next but waited to see how the special event went a few months ago went...and did not consider Post Commons for the reasons below. Regarding the special event a few months ago, the flooring was a big trip hazard. The windows & shades are in great disrepair, broken, unsightly, filthy, and in no way match each other in about any way. The plants are very poorly cared for with dead leaves (ok for my home, but not for a business). The dust and grime on the windowsills and molding was gross...and had been there for a long time. It's like going into a cheap old church basement for an event...but more costly, and touted at better quality, but not. Parking is not logical over by the Stratford is NOT convenient. Disabled entry is a joke. The Third Street hill is horrible to utilize for a special event. And, if a special event occurs while church is in service, there is zero parking. The staff for the special occasion (not sure of the staff turnover) was not helpful...even a little. The event coordinator or any staff, period, never-ever responded to phone calls, emails, text messages, etc about booking the 3 different types of events (I contacted them at separate times), needs for the events, and more. We had to go 'in person' to get someone's attention...and Post Commons is not that busy! During the event the staff seemed put-off to be bothered with a question. The day of the special event the staff arrived late to unlock the doors, making set-up late. The ceilings are high so that it is a challenge for the AC...but it is a challenge that should be met to keep larger groups comfortable. While it was not hot outside, inside it was very warm, especially since everyone was dressed up. Love the building...but I would never ever hold another event at Post Commons and will never ever again meet anyone there for coffee. Ever. As an event planner for many years, I have booked hundreds of events with very high and very low budgets, and Post Commons is in the bottom 3 on quality of service and quality of venue in the entire St. Louis/Madison County area. With several other venues to choose from, I recommend choosing another, even at a higher price. read more

A really fun place that I wish had longer hours. This historic site used to be an old school post office, and it shows. You can enjoy the infrastructure and artifacts of a different time while you are there. Post Commons has many of the features that make an exellent cafe: several types of areas for various social needs, unapologetally distinct decor, food options, and sound panelling. (Seriously, when will big cities understand the importance of acoustics in a shared space)???? They even steeped my tea at the correct temperature, something even excellent cafes often overlook. My complaint: the food is trying to hard to be fancy. No one needs flower petals on their avocado toast. If it's fresh, hot and tasty, that's good enough. Their coffee could also stand to be a little hotter, but that's a matter of taste. read more
