This is my absolute favorite restaurant in town. It is the classic small town diner vibe that is perfect for a weekend brunch with my little family. My kids have always been accepted and loved there, they have coloring pages to keep the busy while we wait for food. Joe K's a good old fashioned diner that serves up delicious and well prepared comfort food. It's only open for breakfast and lunch and in my opinion, breakfast is their specialty. I'm a big fan of breakfast and my go to order here at Joe K's is, Hungry Man Breakfast. I mix it up all the time changing my type of eggs and choice of meat and potatoes. I can order the same thing, and it will still be different every time, by changing the meat and potato choices. It blows my mind that they offer three different types of potatoes. The Hash Browns are crispy and the American Fries are good ole farm fried potatoes. I haven't tried the Tots, because I am not a tots fan. My most recent visit, I paid an additional $2 to enjoy a side of French Toast instead of toast. This will be my new thing, it was the best FT I have ever had. The loaf of bread was a swirled cinnamon bread, which added extra flavor. Joe's ladies, aka servers/waitresses are the best. They are all seasoned servers and are super friendly and professional. They serve and treat everyone as if they are family. If you are in Alton and looking for a hearty, I highly recommend you coming to Joe K's. If you clean your plate, I will be impressed. Chicken tenders and fried potatoes were very good. The waitress was very friendly and did an excellent job.

Their "The Dublin" is an incredible omelet. If you are a fan of omelettes or corn beef hash you need to try it. It's topped with a house made spicy ketchup that sets my mouth to watering They also have the best Eggs Bennie in town. Excellent food and service that's keeps me coming back. read more

She ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon. The eggs were very bland. I had the cinnamon swirl French toast with bacon and over easy eggs. It was good When we arrived a sign on the door said if we are full put your name on the list. Being a first time visitor didn't know where the list was. A couple came in behind us and went straight to the list, so I signed behind them. We waited for our name to be called. The couple that had signed before us was called. When the hostess came over we expected to be called. She called another group and then another group and then another group seating them at tables. She saw that my wife uses a walker. Those 3 groups appeared to be friends of her. After about 25 minutes wait we were talking about leaving when a different waitress came over and called our name. We explained we were not happy about the way she seated people, making us feel unwelcome. She was going to put us in a booth, explaining that the wife needed a table. As it happens a table got up to leave. She said she would get it cleaned for us. She made sure that we got good service. We even got our food before the 3rd table got their food. The hostess that went around our name when I went to pay wouldn't even offer an apology or say anything. NOT sure we will return. That hostess made for a bad first impression. read more

Everything about mine was good, down to the hash browns. The coffee was good. Hubs really liked his omelet. He made more good noises than he usually does at restaurants. I already left a review but felt this needed a second one. Joe ks is a greasy spoon. Again I ate there last thursday the eggs were crusty supposed to be over easy. I no sooner got to my car when I started belching rotten egg. On my last post I said I had diarrhea for 3 days now I'm in my 4 day of diarrhea. And again was told that if over easy was crusty its because the grii is dirty. I'm considering reporting this dump to the health department. Needless to say I'll never eat at this dump again. What the hell joe are you trying to kill your customers. And I know it was your restaurant because the belching eggs started by the time I got to my car and it was the only place I ate that day. Just a homestyle family restaurant in a little strip mall which we wouldn't have found except for our fellow Yelp reviewers. My wife was super stoked with her delicious pork tenderloin, my burger was cooked med rare as requested and was a nice surprise. When you're done and if they're open, stop by and visit the little thrift store next door which supports the local animal shelter. This was my second visit and I can tell you that this experience was much more memorable. I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict. And in true fashion for me, I didn't read the full description. But this was to my delight. When the plate was brought to me, I was thoroughly impressed with the presentation of the poached egg atop the salmon, capers, and smeared bagel. This is the place where you get called Hon and Sweetie and you don't mind because it is like your aunt talking with you. Great small town gathering place for breakfast or lunch. The portions here are very generous for the prices. They offer a variety of dishes and daily specials.
