We've loved LuciAnna's from the start on State Street. I was so glad to see so many familiar favorites in the case when we stopped for a visit. The almond horn and espresso tarts are old favorites. My husband was excited to try the sausage rolls and has enjoyed them. The ambiance is cozy and classy. The large windows allow for a great deal of natural light. There is ample seating inside as well as a couple of tables outside when the weather permits. If you get your food to go, they have offered to heat the necessary food or given instructions on heating if needed for a later time. The owners are extremely friendly and kind. read more

Since I last reviewed, LuciAnna's Pastries, I've moved to IL and LuciAnna's has relocated in Alton. The two of us are now within walking distance of each other. That is a good and a bad thing. It's good for their bottom line and a bad thing for my waistline and weight. At least when I walk there, I am burning some of the calories I will consume. During the week, I enjoy stopping by and grabbing a pastry or two. It's hard to only buy one, when they have so many to choose from. I then continue on my way and enjoy a Blueberry Scone or Raspberry Lemon Cannoli at my leisure later in the day. When it's the weekend, that is when I dine in and enjoy the full experience of LuciAnna's. I either take a patio table which is pet friendly, or a relaxing table inside the charming dining room. I order at the counter and get my table marker, so they know where I am seated. It brunch time, so that also means it is Bloody Mary time. I always have mine with a cup of black coffee chaser. The two balance each other out. My two favorite entrees are; Waffles or anyone of their Benedicts. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with either of them. Plus, you gotta get an order of the, Million Dollar Bacon. Service is always top notch and attentive. You'll enjoy the tea room atmosphere. read more

Ate lunch here recently with a friend. The atmosphere was quaint, small, older tables of mixed styles. We were waited on promptly. I had lemonade and it was very good. Several items on the menu looked interesting and I can't wait to return and try some of them. This day I had the escargot. Let me say, it was delicious. This establishment has gluten free and vegan options. I wish I could remember what my friend had, she did say it was good. They have an offering of desserts to choose from every day, I purchased a pecan caramel style roll which I had for breakfast the next morning. I also got a cannoli to eat at that time. It was to die for. And I also had a chocolate croissant, which was a quite flaky croissant with a wonderful chocolate filling. The service was wonderful. They have a patio for outdoor dining. We went for the special holiday tea event and it was magnificent. There were two violinists, multiple tea, champagne, and food items. Martha, Kieran, and Tyler made the experience special. The environment - the building is an old mansion with floor to ceiling windows and it is beautifully decorated. I have been for lunch and their food and pastries are always delicious. Luciannas has been a favorite of mine since they were on State Street. And now they offer a food menu, in addition to pastries. My most recent visit I had the crab imperial, which I still regularly think about. I think it's a seasonal dish, so I'm eagerly awaiting it to return to the menu. The new location is lovely, and there's so much parking! (Which used to be an issue on Broadway). They have a beautiful, cozy indoor space as well as outdoor seating. I love stopping by and grabbing a chocolate croissant or Tuxedo mousse cheesecake. Service is always friendly! read more

From the beautiful exterior, well appointed bathroom, lovely dining area you know you are at a special place. I spotted the savory mini quiches, shepherd's pie, pub pies and more which are hard to find. I selected the pub (pork) pie made by their savory chef who brings his Irish talent to the incredible offerings. The Executive Chef was out there in front. Friendly service. They added a side salad which was light and tasty. The pub pie came with a fresh chutney like topping that was delicious. Perfect lunch. I ordered the lemon tart, chocolate croissant and gluten free almond chocolate pastry, all excellent. The atmosphere, menu is all worth my 1 and a half hour trip. Hosted a bridal shower recently and ordered all the food from LuciAnna's. It was wonderful and enjoyed by all. Ordered the pulled chicken cucumber sandwiches on brioche buns, beef tenderloin served on crostini with spicy mustard and crème fresh, fresh fruit salad and mini desserts..pistachio and Black Forest mini cannolis, mini lemon and espresso tarts, and Nanaimo bars. When LuciAnna's temporary closed, I was devastated because it is my favorite pastry shop in Alton, but now it is back and better than ever! The space that they occupy is just a couple of blocks down from the original and the space is so much bigger! They have several cute rooms to sit and enjoy your pastries in. What I ordered: today I got the baklava and let me tell ya, it's my favorite baklava in Illinois. It's perfectly moist and flakey. Normally I get the chocolate pecan pie (not sure of the official name), but it is always delicious. My boyfriend got the Belgian brownie. It was very rich and chocolatey. We just moved here from Chicago, and this was just the bakery I was looking for. The pastries are delicious, and not cloying and boring like many places. My favorite is the Chocolate Chunk Spice cookie, which has large pieces of Belgian chocolate in it, cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices. Absolutely delightful. We also ordered brioche rolls which were heavenly. Great coffee too, and a lovely tea selection. Just the right type of place for a cup of coffee and a touch of sweet. LuciAnna's was one of the places that I wanted to visit when I moved to Alton. I have a slight obsession with State Street but I never did stop in while they were at the previous location. I mentioned to my husband how much I wanted to check them out on my the next day I was able to eat sweets. Thankfully that day was after a really grueling workout on Saturday morning. We popped in maybe an hour before they were closing so we did not have an abundance of goodies left to choose from but there were still some great options so it wasn't the easiest decision for me. I ended up getting a molasses cookie and my husband chose the same along with the peanut butter bites. I am not exaggerating when I say I took one bite of the cookie and I was in love. It was perfect! Has the right balance of crunch outer with a soft inner cookie. My husband was nice enough to share his peanut butter bite and it too was amazing, it was very rich but so good - one was plenty to satisfy me. We chose to take our order to go since we had just come from the gym but I look forward to eating there next time. The new space on Broadway is so cute. I cannot wait to see how Broadway shapes up in the future because Alton deserves a cute downtown with tons of great places to go (besides Fast Eddies - which in my experience is what draws people here but Alton is much more than alcohol and cheap food) LuciAnna's is a place worth checking out. Have a molasses cookie! But I will say the tiramisu looked heavenly and I can only image the goodness we missed that had already sold out! read more

LuciAnna's is like those tea houses that seem to collect Stepford Wives. It has a nice smallish interior with a reading room. I was not here long, I did not see tables but I came in a side door. The interior is nice as well as clean. Think tourist trap. I am not sure how they survive. This is apparently a pretty high rent area of Alton, near several antique, junk, pawn stores, and bars. Perhaps they get enough traffice from being the only non-bar nearby. They have a limited inventory for a pastry shop. Like 6 items displayed. It was like 9am when I was there. It did not seem like they were sold out either? There were several fruit / chocolate themed bars. They looked good, but not really my thing. I selected 2 Goshens for my son and me. They are like a cinnamon roll on brioche bread. It made them a little less sweet which was a pleasant change. Although the topping was made up sugary little chips that break of as you eat it. This makes for a colossal mess. These things also cost $3.50 a piece. All told I would have preferred a cinnamon roll. read more

Yummy pastries from a French-trained chef. I bought the chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and almond raspberry tart. All are delicious! Prices are very reasonable. My favorite is the chocolate croissant. These are all beautifully made. I could see them at a bridal or baby shower they are so pretty. Or maybe card club. Or just come on in and treat yourself. LuciAnna's reminds me of a little French pastry shop. The decor and overall vibe of the place is very nice, cute, antique linens cover the tables (there are about 4 tables-seats for two and larger), a chalk board that they set chalk out for people to write on (for kids or experiences), and delicious smells of the baked goods. They are currently offering deals on groupon to try out there selection. They have cannoli's, brownies, tea cookies, and much more. They are fancier type desserts (in my opinion). Wow! What a great bakery! My friend and I showed up ten minutes after closing, and they were kind enough to let us in to buy the BEST cinnamon coffee cake EVER!!! OMG - it was a large piece of moist and not overly sweet cake with the best flavor, but not overtaken by cinnamon. You have to try it!!!
