This company is amazing. They are making incredibly delicious and helpful offerings in the areas of Gluten Free and FODMAP. I don't understand the negative reviews about their customer service and especially their food on the Yelp site. My only gripe is the Gluten Free pasta used in certain dishes (the Bolognese in particular)--it is dry, grainy and kind of tasteless. I would say that 90% of everything we've tried is excellent tasting and a quality par excellence. The rest is still very good. I have had the distinct pleasure of several kind and thorough email responses and phone conversations with Epicured staff when I had questions. For people who claim they're "internet savvy" and then disparage their poor ability to navigate Epicured's site....forgive me, but please! I am only basically internet-abled, and I had no problem changing orders (yes, and they do default to your last order if you don't change it), as well as skipping weeks for delivery (we aren't' daily/ weekly subscribers because we're on a more limited budget). Please! Some of this seemed like spiteful bit**ing to me. If you received the same repeat order you didn't like--then that's your fault! The Mediterranean Salad. Gazpacho, and Montauk crab cakes are to die for! I have had personal responses from their CEO (Richard Bennett) and Vice President (Adam Feis). as well as VP of Customer Service (Melissa Turner)--they are all incredibly kind, responsive and helpful. Their customer service line is excellent as well. Is everything perfect with Epicured? No, but is anything in life? If you like well prepared food that is shipped to you thoroughly packed/ chilled and insulated, with ingredients that are unmistakably well-prepared and fresh (you can add spice if you think something's bland!)--they are the boss! I was about to place my first order with Epicured. They claim they offer 50% off your first order, but this is misleading. Their words verbatim in my texted offer when I signed up: "Enjoy 50% off your first subscription order with code: WELCOME50!" However, when I entered this code upon checkout, it only took 10% off my order's total. This is a cheap trick to get people to sign up for this meal service. A quick Google search revealed customers with complaints of refund refusals, unsafe food upon arrival, and other food-quality issues. I was excited to try Epicured with a discounted first order, but I feel like I'm being tricked right off the bat, so I will not be placing any orders with this company. Companies should know better than to over-promise and under-deliver. Be transparent about what you're actually offering. If you're not transparent, you only make customers angry, which is not conducive to the company's success. People deserve good customer support, safe food for consumption, and access to a refund policy when food products are damaged due to the company's own negligence and poor packaging. This company is not acting in good faith. Once they've authorized payment, you'll never get it back. Even if you contact them so quickly that the extent of their effort was sending a single email. Even if you're disabled due to illness and cannot afford their food in the future, making a credit useless. They're happy to sit on your money rather than let you spend it on housing, medical care or affordable food. The details: I was automatically charged today for a delivery of meals that Epicured admitted would not be prepared until next week. I notified them within 2 hours of their "window" closing that I can't accept the order, as I am now disabled due to chronic illness and need the funds for more affordable food, healthcare and my mortgage. They repeatedly refused to issue a refund, stating that "we are able to make little to no changes to the order as our team immediately starts preparing these meals." They later directly contradicted this statement, admitting that they have not begun preparing it (obviously) and have incurred no loss that would justify keeping my money: "We ensure that meals are prepared and delivered within a 48-hour window. We aim to deliver our meals fresh each time." Assuming their meals are as fresh as they state, nothing should be done with this order until next Tuesday, as the order was scheduled to be delivered on Thursday. Essentially either their food isn't as fresh as they claim, or they're applying their "refund policy" in bad faith and refusing to work with reasonable customers, no matter what hardships the customer may be experiencing. I reiterated my situation numerous times, and they did not care, just issued canned "apologies for the inconvenience" of potentially making me choose between food, shelter, or medical care. read more

EPICURED HAS AN F GRADE FROM BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. Beware -- when you order, hidden in the terms & conditions (not clear at check-out unless you click out a link and read the full terms & conditions), you are signing up for a subscription. I didn't realize they had scheduled weekly orders for me until I happened to log in and check on the status of my order. Second, one of the meals in my order arrived damaged. Due to the way they packed it and the poor quality of their packaging materials, the plastic tray was broken and the food was opened and not safe to eat. Surely they would be happy to refund the broken fruit tray at $14.96! Instead, customer service refers you to a NO REFUND policy, which they refer to as on the website. (Again, not clear at check out, and I've never seen a company interpret a NO REFUND policy to apply to something that is damaged due to their own negligence and poor packaging, including other meal services.) They only offer store credit, which (surprise!) gets you signed up for another subscription. I'm having to submit through BBB to try to get a refund for the $15 fruit tray that was unsafe to eat. Honestly, the worst customer service I have ever seen, and their site is very outdated and makes it hard to just order consistently. There is no way to pause your subscription, so if you don't want to lose your credits, you have to just go back every week or few weeks and make sure your order is paused for that week. I did NOT place an order this past week. I triple checked all emails, and every email they sent saying that my order was about to be placed, I paused. This was clearly a glitch on THIER system, and they stuck to their no refund policy, even though I clearly did not place the order and got no email saying an order was about to be placed. Food Quality and Consistency Issues Over time, the food quality and consistency have declined significantly - specifically the Frittata with Bacon and Cheese (no longer on the menu). This was my go-to, I would order 5 each delivery for a filling and delicious way to start my mornings. However my last 3 deliveries the volume of food was at least a third less of what it was previously! I love the cheese plate, shrimp, fruit and yogurt, frittata... basically all the breakfast and a la carte items I've purchased have been great. Cons? Well, some lunch/dinner dishes are a little bland. Maybe because they are low FODMAP? Price is not cheap but considering the quality, I am willing to spend that little extra. I'm thankful for this food delivery service however severely lacking it may be. It feels like it is run by termite people hellbent on destroying a good thing, Things I like: I'm subscribing to the rule "If it is delicious, spit it out", so I am most thankful that I have something to eat thanks to Epicured. It's the right amount of good. I'm retraining my tastebuds. I order the 4 day bundle and it lasts me into the 6th day. I'm not hungry. There is a wide variety of types of meals. I really love the chicken and rice soup , the snack bars and the shrimp thai curry. Now what I do not like: The site is fashioned with small fonts in grey letters and is difficult to see on my phone. Nothing is easy or clear. I wasn't clear I was signing up for a subscription. I couldn't SEE how to change it or stop it. You can skip a week. That is written in a light green so you can work on deepening some frown lines searching around and around for what is not there. The transaction didn't appear to have gone through at all. It was all really strange but soon I was subscribed and food was coming every week. There is no second or third choice for which 4 day bundle of meals you'd prefer. It's only THAT one over and over or you can order ala carte. The customer service isn't always there and there is no indicator as to why. One site said it's down the weekends. The message, "We don't care about you" rings out at every turn including that there is no message that ever comes up saying, "Hey, don't waste your time trying this or that. We aren't here. You can not change anything, so you can stop hunting and clicking around in circles. When you do reach customer service, they are not clear or straightforward answering your questions. They are confused and confusing and so am I. You know the kind of experience where you ask a straightforward simple question and someone who is a real person still comes on and asks you how they may help you and you spend 45 minutes wrangling them because they are answering questions but NOT your question! I waste so much time trying to ask them things. For instance, there is no incentive to refer them. You don't get anything as an individual for referring them. I'm stunned. The site says, "click for a referral code" and it leads to an email you can send to them. What? They reply but no code for individuals referring clients to them. You also can't change out a meal in your "bundle" if you don't like it. The meals in the bundles can't be changed. In the same breath as customer service told me that I can't change meals, they said the complete opposite and also stated that I couldn't change ingredients--which made me think they thought I wanted to change my meal's ingredients! It's like a verbal mud puddle every time. I couldn't change any meals. TEll us which meals you would like to change and we will change them for you. You can't change ingredients. I don't want to change ingredients. Why do you keep bringing that up when I have said over and over I do not want to change ingredients? Can't we take that off the table as NOT A CONCERN so we can create clarity about the absurd rule so hard to believe, it needs 45 minutes and two customer service people to explain it? Can I change out meals which are the same price? No. You can't change the meals in your bundle. But but...you JUST said!!??? (pulls all hair out!).Then they say you can't make changes to an order which has already been processed --further making it feel possible that you can actually change future orders but YOU CAN'T so why bring up that I missed to window to make changes???!!!! Purely enraging because it all boils down to they aren't listening to you and don't care what you want. They are answering questions in their heads but not yours. In the 4-day bundle it is exactly the same every time. No variety week to week. I don't like 3 of the meals so I'm almost ready to puke when I see them. No matter how many times (I think 5x's) I told them I'm not interested in receiving a credit for the meals I didn't like, they kept stating their crediting policy in a really official manner when I was trying to obtain clarity for MY question and not seeking credit. They simply don't care about what you want. That message is the most resounding. Where it says "Update Order", it leads to nothing. You can't change anything except the date it's delivered or you can skip a week. It could easily say, "Items in your bundle can not be substituted". ANYTHING not to have to reach out to them and their double talk. "We aren't here on weekends. Try back Monday". "Congratulations! Your order has been processed and now you are subscribed to weekly deliveries!" Communication sucks. I will be looking for a different service even though I could have been happy with this one if I were not so clear that they don't care what you want and do not want to improve. I purchased a $250 gift card for $250.....they messed up the math due to a refund owed because my food arrived a day and a half after it was scheduled (9pm the following day). I couldn't eat the food and they refunded me, but disregarded the fact that I used my credit on that order. I lost $133 and they could not see their error. The customer service response was horrible. Do not trust this company! The food is mostly not bad, especially compared to other low-FODMAP pre-made meals. But if there are any order issues - and there *will* be order issues - like food arriving in broken containers; or expensive orders being mis-delivered to someone else's, unspecified address; or the company charging your credit card against your will because they didn't send you the reminder email that's detailed in their terms of service and didn't respond to customer support emails even though they say that's the best way to reach them; you will probably never hear back from them and you will definitely never get your money back. But if you're desperate for reasonably edible low-FODMAP food and you can afford to give them however much money they want, when they want, without authorization, and to maybe sometimes receive food in exchange, it's okay. Update: Account credits (which they refuse to give) expire in 30 days and cannot be applied to ($50!) shipping fees or taxes. The terms of service explicitly, unapologetically, and I think illegally, allow for "UNAUTHORIZED CREDIT CARD CHARGES." Their customer service is apathetic and infuriating, and the company does not respond to Better Business Bureau filings and has yet to respond to my lawyer. Well we just finished a week of Epicured deliveries. The delivery service is excellent always arriving in the early am as desired. The food in general is tasty, healthy and easy to reheat. The only issue they seem to be having is all the meats are seriously overcooked to the point on some items not being eatable. Hanger Steak and Pork are incinerated !! This Company is a joke. They send expired food, moldy fruit, meals with cracked boxes, etc. regularly. This past week, I received a meal with RAW SAUSAGE in it. I sent a picture and called twice and they told me the sausage wasn't raw (??????) and tried to convince me it was cooked, as if I don't know the difference between raw and cooked food. I squeezed it, cut it, checked the insides, etc. It was 100% raw (it also smelled like death). The food is fine. The thing I like most about it is not having to cook while I'm in severe pain due to my chronic illness. HOWEVER, the customer service is HORRIBLE. It took so long for me to get in contact with a real human being. For some reason they have three different phone numbers (via google, their website, and instagram) and no one would pick up! The voicemail kept telling me to go to their chat service on their website where all I was getting was a bot! They will NOT give refunds out. I scheduled a delivery to get food because I was going out of town (to see a specialist for my chronic illness). The delivery was scheduled for three days before I left. It didn't come in time and it was $200 down the drain and a huge waste of food. Don't waste your time! Overall, this is an ok option if you're trying to follow a low-fodmap diet. There are some issues that make it a less pleasant experience though. Taste: As others have mentioned, a lot of the food is quite bland. The entrees and salads are particularly skimpy on sauce/dressing. While I appreciate it being low fodmap, I'd still like to have tasty food. The only thing I've really enjoyed so far is the green curry with shrimp. The rest is fairly meh. The website: I can't remember the last time I've had so much trouble trying to place or update an order. This is especially bad if you're a vegetarian and you end up with chicken instead of the tofu you were sure you'd selected. Also, the website makes it hard to know if you're getting enough food. The first week I chose a breakfast, salad/bowl for lunch, and dinner entree for each day and ended up with about 1100 calories per day. It sucked to pay so much to follow a low fodmap diet and then have to figure out how to supplement it afterward. Packaging: Soo much plastic. They claim that it's recyclable, but most of it is the higher numbered plastic that doesn't really get recycled most of the time. It'd be nice to see options that are actually eco-friendly. I was quite disappointed in the food, most of the meals were not good. All of the grains and pasta were undercooked, I'm not talking al-dente here, rice and pasta should not be chewy/hard. Some of the meal portions were very small, half of what is pictured, half of the standard 3-4oz serving for protein. The only meal that was very good was the Grab & Go Gazpacho. I have my healthy weight back, my skin is clear and healthy again , I am back to swimming 80-100 laps 5 days a week hiking the AT on weekends, moodiness is no more .. I look so forward to my meal delivery each week. EPICURED foods are delicious , ( I have my favorites ) , fresh, tasty, and every dish is measured correctly following the MONASH UNIVERSITY recommendations. I never thought I could eat broccoli, pasta or tacos again , but thanks to the team @ EPICURED, they now have me excited to eat again without the very familiar gut issues of gas, bloating & distention. Also, shout out to customer service , as I have emailed them frequently. Their response is timely & they do strive to resolve any issue in a timely manner . What I like best, is that they recognize there are folks who depend on them to provide our meals & will email you promptly if need be or just to say "thank you " for being a customer. I did see some negative comments about price , taste & ordering. My opinion is this : the pricing is similar to what I was paying @ Wegmans for their prepared meals , only to toss most of meal away because of belly ache & bloating soon after consuming. I am assured with EPICURD that I can eat with peace of mind & my belly is still flat afterwards! Taste, EPICURED cannot possibly season everything to everyone's individual palate. That's why you purchase spices , anyone who is gut challenged should know which spices work for them and which do not. Ordering, again, it is not EPICURED's fault if the consumer is unclear about ordering or they need help on how to order. This is why they have customer service , who are there to guide you along. Food is meh but not the issue here. They lock you in as a "subscription" and will add random food to your cart if a previous item is not being made anymore. If you have credit on your account you will have to apply it weekly or they will charge your credit card. When calling about these issues I had two options 1. Delete my account and loose all my credit 2. Pause it for a time being. The customer experience is pro their business it's not to make things easier for the customer. It's to make sure they are making the most from you every week. I would avoid this service as there are many others out there with much better ui/ux and are there to satisfy the customer not the execs. I'm updating my October 2017 review of Epicured because I've now been eating their meals for a long time at my capital district (New York) home. Although there have been issues with the UPS delivery service, when meals are delivered on time, they're consistently delicious. Epicured staff are trying to work out the annoying delivery issues and I remain cautiously optimistic. The divered meals are still great. I personally, occasionally add some spices I like, sweet paprika, turmeric, chili but even before that every meal is wonderful. It's a timesaver to have gluten-free and low-fodmap (digestively safe!) foods that are so flavorful and for me to have vegan options, just wow! I've been unable to do the shopping and preparing. The food is amazing but the packaging for soups/chilis is, literally, a mess. They persistently leak/rupture in transit, even arriving with little shards of plastic broken off of the lids, threatening their way into the food. I've asked to communicate with someone who can really influence this, to no avail. The customer service reps are very sweet and quickly issue refunds, but (while appreciated) that's not what I was after. I'd been a "premium" customer last year, putting up with a leak here and there, until one package came that was so badly damaged I had to throw at least a third away. At that point I unsubscribed. Last month I called to ask if the packaging had been improved and was told yes, so I tried again. Nope. I was excited to find business that delivers FODMAP friendly meals. When I signed up for my first order I had no idea it was a subscription because their website says you can order one time. I didn't know that if I didn't cancel future orders I would get the exact same food. The food is not great, pretty bland. Desserts are good but pretty sweet. My order was a day late. I then received an email the next day informing me that this is a subscription business and I would get an email the next day allowing me to opt in or change the next order. I never received that email, I even checked my spam filter. Nada! So, I didn't know to cancel the order until I saw the charge from my credit card company. I was diagnosed with SIBO and part of my treatment was a Low FODMAP diet. On a whim, I googled "Low FODMAP meal delivery" and was surprised to see one actually existed in nyc! I decided to treat myself to make my treatment a little less depressing. The food is really good! I brought my meals to work for lunch each day and most of them microwaved just fine. You can pick what you want the week before and everything arrives cold and ready to refrigerate. It really made my diet so much easier and fun! The drawbacks are that it can be pricey and you have to order $100 worth to skip the $20 delivery charge. The portions could have been a bit bigger. The only delivery window for my address in Queens was 12am-6am and the boxes were left outside the front door. I had to pray that it didn't get stolen. The delivery worked out fine each time though.
