Sent them an email and asked if they did pond design and install. Got an email back stating that my project was too small for them and that they weren't interested. Peter didn't ask about the size of my project or for any details, so it's interesting that my project was "too small" when he knew nothing about it. I mean, I was looking for a landscaper to install an entire front and back yard for my fire rebuild, but good to know that I don't qualify for their services. read more

For the last 4 years I have used Equinox Landscape to maintain my garden and i couldn't be happier. I am not exactly a green thumb and i needed help figuring out what to plant in my new home. We had an initial conversation about the type of plants and landscape i would prefer and they listened to my requests while making suggestions when necessary. Everything was done in the time they had indicated and the end result was fantastic. At that point i realized i was ill-equiped to maintain it and decided to hire Equinox for the ongoing maintenance. They have done a wonderful job and never taken advantage of my lack of knowledge or even laissez-faire attitude about the garden. It's always beautiful and well maintained and i have nothing to do with it! The monthly bill is always detailed with the pricing of plants as well as the exact time they spent every time they came so you do not pay 1hr when they were only here for 45mn. For someone like me who is often not home or is unaware of how long a specific task might take, it is a very important factor. Go Equinox! read more

Be cautious in working with this company. They charged us a big number of hours for preparing a drawing showing where two trees would be planted in our yard in order justify holding onto a deposit that we had given them in good faith, thinking that it was the start of a good and long relationship. It ended up costing us over $1500 for a simple drawing with 2 trees on it. They are very nice when they are trying to get you to sign a contract, but if you need some understanding from them as your project evolves, they are not flexible and will do everything they can to hold onto your money. I would not recommend them to anyone. We previously used them to get some trees and small bushes planted and half the bushes didn't survive. read more

Overall - good plan, ok execution and dismal follow-through. Equinox re-did our backyard in 2012. We had a good experience working with Patrick on the design, although the design itself had several major flaws that we had to point out to have fixed (ex. side yard dimensions were double the actual size). Once installation began, Equinox charged us additional for items that should have been included in the original estimate. For example, they didn't notice the extent of the slope change then charged us for additional grading and soil replacement. During installation, when we had discussions with the installers and the owner on any details, we found them to be defensive instead of working with us to make sure the new yard was going to meet our needs. We didn't care for the mulch they used and were disappointed that they didn't ask our input before installing. After installation, several plants died almost immediately. They promised to come back and replace the plants and even wrote us a note with the list of items they would take care of. We sent multiple follow-up e-mails and then gave up. Now that the plants are maturing, we are finding that several plant selections were not right for the space and we will have to replace those plants ourselves. For example, grasses along a side path have overgrown the path and we cannot walk down that path without wearing long pants as the grasses are sharp and cut our legs. Kudos to Adam the subcontractor who built the deck. He had ideas to improve on the design during installation and his work was meticulous. We would work with him again if given the opportunity. read more

I hired Equinox to re-do my landscaping that was mis-planted by another designer. Serena did a thorough job researching the right plants for my yard, taking into consideration my allergies and my need for a low to no-maintenance yet beautiful aesthetic. She kept me focused on the Sonoma wine country spa look that I wanted while giving me options, which I liked. When a certain plant failed in the scorching sun, they were quick to suggest a replacement, and did it at no charge. Lastly, the budget was very detailed and Serena was very proactive in communicating when changes in the plan would cause us to increase the budget. After being stung with this with past contractors, I was very pleased with this. I would highly recommend them and plan to continue my relationship with them in the future. read more

This year I asked Equinox to help me rip out and replant my little back yard, which was terribly overgrown. I used Equinox for my landscaping needs for a couple of years, and learned the hard way what to look for in a good landscaping company. At first they seemed nice, helpful, and did what I thought was a great job. Then as time passed, I noticed less and less being done, and more time spent doing it. In addition, every time I wanted something pulled out and something new planted, all they did was give me endless reasons why what I wanted was not a good idea, and thus never did it. The final straw came when I had them put in a gate for me. Despite having worked on my yard for years, they claimed (2 weeks after the job was complete) that they didn't realize there was a stone pathway (complete BS, they knew it was there), and they would need to double the original estimate. I worked construction for many years, and this simply isn't how its done. If the workers run into a problem, they have to contact you with any changes and how you would like to proceed. None of this happened. Instead, I got a call saying I owe them money (again, 2 weeks after the job is done), which turned into a yelling match over their utter lack of professionalism. On top of all this, the gate they built has BROKEN 6 TIMES. I could have easily done better myself. I stopped using them the next week, when it became obvious they were attempting to pad my bill for the money they lost on the gate (the amount of landscaping done was minimal, and the bill was large). In the end, I never paid them the extra costs and haven't heard back. Since then I have found a new company that actually does the job, for 1/3 of the monthly cost. THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY I HAVE HAD THE DISPLEASURE OF USING. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

Equinox was recommended to my family. Based upon multiple, useful meetings, we used Equinox to design our entire garden, select and install all the plants, and then had Equinox maintain the yard for over 1 year. We were sorely disappointed. Here are the reasons why. While some of the garden looks great, other parts look terrible. Some of the plants they installed were not the plants they promised, and they never replaced them. Some of the plants were not watered correctly through the automatic sprinkler system they installed, and we were told we had to replace those plants at our cost. Other plants were killed by their weed whackers and replaced only because we pointed out what had happened. After over six months of ignoring our pleas for help, the owner finally came to see our property and agreed it was not their best work. He promised an improvement plan, promised to replace plants, and promised to make things right. At that time, we sent the owner an email with plants we suggested he consider in our yard. His response was, "I can't have you recommending every plant under the sun. There are too many possibilities and I don't have time to explore them all. Plus, I know what plants are suitable for your site. You do not." At that, we had to sever our relationship with Equinox. If you don't care about your garden, you may not notice the difference with Equinox. But if, like me, you pay close attention to your garden, and would like to work closely with folks you can trust, look elsewhere. read more
