The best gym in the area! Clean, doesn't smell like a gym, all the equipment is well cared for and the staff has full of energy! Equinox is always updating the classes each month with new and exciting workouts and all the instructors are highly certified. If your a big yoga fan you have to join Equinox! The yoga at Equinox doesn't cost you extra to take and the again the instructors are amazing! The pool is salt water and you also have a spa if you want to get massages and facials. For mom's you have a day care room where your kids can be monitored while you workout, its clean and well kept. What you pay for is what you get! read more

If you are a mother you are not welcomed here! Do they really expect me to pay $20-$25 per child per visit! That's on top of the membership. So let's say you are a new mother that's trying to get fit after giving birth, you would have to pay around $400 a month just in baby sitting fees. In order to bring your children to the daycare. Many others have listed the features of the gym so I'm not going to repeat. I have to say, it's expensive but VERY worth the price. One of the sayings come to mind "You get what you pay for!" This is the case here! I work out early in the morning at this gym and there are always folks cleaning the locker rooms and stocking towels and such. I noticed that someone commented on this but also mentioned that they never saw anyone clean the equipment. I have. It's been when I've been in during the middle of the day and not the rush time in the morning. My trainer is awesome. Yes, fairly high cost but good personal trainers are not cheap either (I looked around). She has a College Degree in Sports Medicine and a lot of training. My goal was to get into shape and loose weight. I've been at the gym for 2 months and down about 20lbs. Dropped my heart rate (alot) while running and tripled my plank time. I have to say I'm happy. If you are in the area and can afford the $$$, it is well worth it! read more

I joined a year ago and I really love it. I used to work out 2-3x per week, but I love this gym so much that I work out 6-8x per week now. The classes are fantastic, the locker room is sparkling, and nearly everyone that works there seems happy to be there. The classes are TOUGH, which can be intimidating to new people, but the intructors are helpful, so stick with it. My trainer, Brian Kim, is excellent. He's really motivating and will work just as hard as you do. That's a recipe for success and I've seen tremendous improvement. read more

I had the type of membership that allowed me access to any Equinox and living in NY I made my way through a few with slight annoyances but nothing too traumatic other than the constant offers from trainers or the lack of space to stretch without getting a glimpse under the shorts of the person standing over you in 24 inches of mat space. But it was fine I enjoyed the beauty of the gyms and the minty towels...then I visited family in VA and decided to go for a swim. Big mistake. There were three people in the pool so I shared a lane with a woman who was swimming slower than me. She got out of the pool furious I was sharing her lane and complained to the life guard. Then I found a hand- written note on my locker telling me not to leave prints from the shower to the locker!! You read correctly...my flip flops left prints!!! Not a ton of water just a print!! Angry angry folks in a gigantic empty gym with little to no supervision. I decided so much complaining would not keep me from going to a gym but over time I decided to cancel my membership. This place reminded me I was paying twice what other gyms cost...for minty towels and angry swimmers. read more

I have been a member ever since the Tysons Equinox opened. This gym is clean, trendy, never crowded, and has everything that one could need. As someone else pointed, the mark of a good place is if it keeps you coming back. This gym certainly does that. My only gripe is that it closes somewhat early on weekends. read more

dont make a membership here, was interested in making a membership with the gym and they didnt even let me use the bathroom, clearly they got something to hide, to think if a place is going to make you pay a ridiculous amount per a membership that they would have good customer service, the the first people you see when you walk in are the most unwelcoming people, the staff clearly needs to be trained at hospitality, would rather go to lifetime! read more

I agree with the many comments about the customer service at this gym. They staff is snooty, the manager is never unavailable, and the sales team are liars. When I signed up, they couldn't have been nicer and accomodating. As we are trying to cancel our membershipo, no one returns our calls, we're asked to jum through hoops, and the staff has become rude and unprofessional. With the competition of other workout facilities in the area, I'm not sure this one is worth the trouble. read more

The Equinox Tysons has a major Cell Phone usage problem! The members use their Cell Phone on the gym floor and it is very distracting while working out with your Personal Trainer. This gym is operated like a Gold's Gym versus a quality executive's gym / club. I have been a member for some time and the Manager is not improving this situation. Four people of their cell phones in 45 minutes on the floor with my trainer yesterday. It's too bad...for the Equinox membership! read more

Equinox is a great gym. So why only three stars? See below for a couple of easily correctable issues. The Good: The front desk staff is great, the trainers are friendly and the folks that keep the gym clean are top notch. I LOVE the swimming pool. I work out early in the morning before work or at lunchtime and the gym is never even remotely crowded. The cardio equipment is state of the art and plentiful and the weight machines are the best available. There are dozens of free classes every week and the instructors are incredibly motivating and friendly. (Tara kicks my ass in spin class when I am able to sneak away from work to attend her mid-day sessions) The locker rooms are very nice, the towels are plush and the soaps in the showers are a fancy brand called Kiehl which I love. They have shaving cream and razor blades near the sinks so people can shave after working out. One service that I love is a laundry service. I leave my dirty work out clothes in a bag in the towel hamper and the next day they are washed, dried, folded and put back in my personal locker. It isn't cheap, but for me my least favorite thing about working out has always been constantly doing laundry and getting a new gym bag ready to go to the gym and now I don't need to do that at all. The bad: My one criticism is that though the staff is great, management is not very responsive (at least not to me). I have emailed the General Manager several times to complain that the water in the sinks is never ever more than lukewarm, making shaving nearly impossible and they have never responded. I have told the front desk staff about this and they have told me that they know that management knows about this problem but they haven't done anything to resolve it. The only thing clients talk to each other about early in the morning is how cold the water in the sinks is. The water in the showers (as opposed to the sinks) is plenty hot. This sounds like a minor complaint, but it is actually very annoying mostly because it seems they do not care to fix it (if they do fix it I would likely update this to a 5 star review) Personal training: I had one free personal training session that came with my membership and did not like how 90% of the session seemed focused on getting me to buy more sessions. I felt I had to avoid eye contact with that trainer for months (until he disappeared) because he would always come up to me and try to sell me sessions. Instead for personal training I use a personal training gym where they don't put pressure on me to buy more than I want. They recently closed a nice but overpriced smoothie shop called Elixer ($6.75 for a smoothie!) They have been preparing to open a new in house snack/smoothie shop but there has been no communication to members about this process (nor did they notify us of its' closing). Equinox is a pricey gym to join and for the most part it is fully worth the investment. They had a major flood in early January 2010 caused by a broken pipe four stories above the gym and they have done a very good job completing massive repairs in a timely manner. If the price was lower, I would be more forgiving of an issue like lukewarm water in the locker rooms, but for a premium price I think we should expect premium service. read more

I had a terrible experience at this gym. Yes, the facilities look fabulous- clean, new, and modern. The pool is on the shorter side for lap swimming, but it's a salt water pool which is nice. The locker rooms are spacious. But the sales rep was another story. She was really pushy and kept trying to get me to sign the contract after just a tour of the gym- not even 1 workout, even though most gyms give you a week trial period to workout. She kept telling me that their January promotion would end and I wouldn't get my initiation fee waived- even though I told her I didn't care because I was going to sign up with a personal training package and thus my initiation fee would be waived anyways. I also told her I was worried about traffic in the mornings and therefore wanted to see how Equinox would affect my morning commute so she gave me a 1 day trial card. She told me that I should sign a contact now and that if, within one week, I was not happy, Equinox would cancel my contract. But how does that make sense? Why couldn't I just try the gym for a week first and then sign a contract? Plus, nothing about canceling within a week was in the contract. And, additionally, if it would be so easy to cancel within 1 week and no questions would be asked, why couldn't I just try the gym for a week? It just doesn't make sense. She was friendly and I know she was probably just trying to reach her sales goal for the month (I went there at the end of January), but that shouldn't compromise the level of service given clients. I'm getting married soon and I want the very best place to get in top shape. So I didn't think checking out Equinox for a couple of days before I signed up for a year + personal training was too much to ask! I really wish I could have liked it.... read more

Equinox Spa is elegant and relaxing. Miaka Huss is a skilled massage therapist and has helped me a lot with back and neck pain.

If you love pretentious places, this is a great fit. The female massage therapist, J, has no respect for the time of customers. Not sure what justifies her complete lack of customer service. If I ever come back, it will be to bring my dad for a massage with John or to get spa services from Caroline. Sea salt pool is a great perk but not worth putting up with the institutional culture of this place. read more

I was fortunate to win a gift certificate for a month, however, my timing was SO bad. I joined before Thanksgiving, and lost one week, due to the holiday and me being out of town. During the month, I did manage to get a facial, a 70 minute deep cleaning facial, that I wish I would not have signed up for. The room was freezing, so cold, that my nose was hurting, so I asked that the heat be turned up, just to find out, that the bed was supposed to be heated as well. Lori was my esthetician. She kept flipping pages, like she was looking for the next thing to plop on my face. At one point, she dropped the magnifying light on my face, hitting me directly on the bridge of my nose - it hurt. She kept apologizing. I was cold, my nose hurt and they wanted to charge me $130 for all this. I complained, fully expecting the charges to be dropped - nope, not the case, they charged me $35. I paid, but I don't I should have. The initial sign up was very quick, the person just handed my a black folder, told me you get free spa services, free pilates, free trainer session - not specifically explaining the details. The free spa services was a 25 min. introductory facial - and I never had the other services, as pilates was impossible to schedule, and ran out of time for the personal trainer. Yes, the gm is clean, yes the changing rooms are clean, but I'm not sure this place is really for me. It's a bit intimidating, and I did not feel comfortable enough to make an effort to try the gym. If it's for you great, I think it is worth the price, just not for me. And make sure you know what you sign up for. read more

At Equinox, you pay premium price for a luxury gym. It inhabits a large, trendy space; has a pool and an expansive slate of classes in addition to the standard cardio and weights equipment; and is filled with attentive trainers and an elite & very toned clientele. I was a member for over a year (left 5 months ago when I moved) and by far my favorite thing about the place was the classes. I loved their pilates classes and spinning classes but also tried yoga, zumba, and some others. The teachers are generally knowledgeable, friendly and high-energy, though naturally some are better than others. If you are thinking of joining & would want to take advantage of the classes definitely study the class list beforehand to see how it might fit into your schedule, since there are some stretches of time in the midday and late in the evening that are generally empty. Other than the classes, I availed myself of the pool and the cardio equipment mostly. The pool is small and a bit warm for my taste but hey, if you like to swim it does the trick. It was never too full to find a lane; in fact the gym in general got busy but never too busy. For myself I found the weight room somewhat intimidating, in part due to the groups of friendly trainers roaming the floor with their hawk-eyes focused on you, waiting to see if you might need help. I don't need that much scrutiny when I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing, but I guess that's my personal neurosis. Obviously the big downside to this place is the price. I certainly don't miss paying $115 a month in gym fees. For me it made sense because at the time I worked in the building & the convenience was a huge bonus - but its clearly an individual choice. read more

This is a well-managed healh club but. They are signed up with Silver Sneakers (I'm an old lady). The regular instructors are terrific but they take a lot of time off from Fitness First. The substitute that they often use is terrible. I asked them if they could find someone else but that seems to be impossible. So I dropped my membership. Too bad. read more

This gym is just amazing. I have enrolled very recently, and so far my experience there has been just great. Everything is so nice, modern, and SUPER CLEAN! The lockers room are top notch, there is even one guy who is constantly there to clean everything. The showers are very spacious and luxurious, they have Kiehl's products available in every shower (shampoo, conditioner and soap). For those who don't know this brand, it'a a very fancy and expensive one. There is a whole bunch of extras at the sinks and in the lockers : cotton swaps, shavers, mouth wash, hair dryer, body lotion, deodorant, etc etc etc... There even is a lounge room with a TV where you just can sit on the couch and relax. I know they also have a "executive locker room", from what I've seen it's just a smaller one and you have to pay extra for that - don't really see the point. They also offer the possibility to rent a locker if you want to leave your stuff there, and there is a laundry service. From what I remember, you have to pay $50 a month if you want locker + laundry (I think it is $15 for the locker and $35 for laundry, not 100% sure though). Obviously they provide towels, and in the weights area they also have a fridge that contains wet eucalyptus-scented towels that are really refreshing when your trainer makes you sweat your ass off... :-). The steam room is also very nice and clean. There is a lap pool with saltwater, so you don't smell chlorine and your eyes aren't irritated when you get out of it. They have a free wifi access and even computers that you can use - OK that is quite useless, who goes to the gym to surf on the Internet?! There is also a kids area with toys and stuff. Now clearly, that gym is super pricey. It costs $137 a month, and the one time initiation fee is ridiculous, I can't remember exactly but it's way over $500. It's quite easy to waive though. As soon as I've said to the guy that it was too expensive for me, he immediately set it to $175. And he said he was waiving it completely if I was enrolling for a couple of personal training sessions - which I did, I was intending to anyways. But I'm sure that if you negociate a little, you can waive it completely without conditions. A couple of goodies come along with the enrolment : one personal training session, one Equinox t-shirt, one 30 minutes Pilates private session, one 30 minutes facial or massage at their spa, and what they call the Equifit evaluation - which is amazing actually. During this evaluation they check your height, weight, body fat percentage, there is also a strength test, a cardio test, and the trainer will ask you a whole bunch of questions about your lifestyle and habits. This is REALLY good to know where you are actualling standing and how long the road will be to achieve your goals :). Talking about the personal training sessions, yes it is expensive, but not that much more expensive than any other trainer you would find around the place. I am more than happy about my trainer, he's really really great and makes me work my ass off. Too bad I can't afford to take more lessons with him. They have a Oh and you can also use the covered car park that is just opposite, this isn't a free one but when you check in at the gym they will validate your ticket so you don't have to pay when you exit. To make things clear : I wasn't planning to pay so much for a gym. I checked out other places like Gold's & co which are less than $40 a month. But the thing that convinced me when I came to Equinox is that the guy who received me wasn't one of these pushy bi*ches you usually have to face in most of the gyms. I told him clearly at the beginning that I was NOT going to enrol immediately because I was checking all the gyms around, and he was really cool with it and did not even try to make me take an appointment later on or anything. That felt SO much better, especially after Gold's where I almost had to RUN out of the place because they would not let me go without me enrolling. Equinox sent me a personalized email 3 or 4 days after I checked the place out to ask me if I was still interested in enrolling. The reason why I put 4 stars instead of 5 is mainly because of the price, this is still VERY expensive in my opinion - but if you can afford it, definately go for it. Also, I am not 100% sure of that but I THINK that you cannot go to other Equinox locations unless you pay more. That is ridiculous. So in the end, if you are going to a gym and if you don't care about customer service & staff in general, I guess you can find much cheaper places that offer more or less the same amenities (not as luxurious, but I guess it's not that much of an issue). To me, customer service does matter a lot, and I like to feel comfortable and not being hunted constantly to buy whatever services they have to offer - and so far, so good! read more

LOVE, LOVE going to this fitness club! Do not have second thoughts, because believe me it is soo worth it! I look forward everyday to go to this gym and yes, it is addicting! Great for someone like me who is just an average exercise person....this place makes me you want to go and the staff and everyone there are extremely nice! Monthly fee is nothing if you go atleast 4-5x a week..which I do now....soo, soo good! No joke...this place is super duper wonderful! LOVE IT! I have been training with Rodney Sasher for almost six months and the results I have achieved with him are incredible and ones I could never have achieved on my own. He is advanced in his techniques and knowledge and has gotten me hooked on training so much so that I almost feel lost when I go into the gym and workout on my own. He has taught me innumerable exercises and techniques that have led to gains that I never thought possible. Each session pushes me and I feel that my experience at Equinox can never be complete without training with him. I highly recommend him. read more

Designer styling on both the outside and inside. Ample free parking. Cool music thumping in the background (not too loud). Spa like locker room, steam room, showers. Friendly staff and cleaning people with OCD-like tendencies. New hi-tech equipment. What's not to like? Maybe the price level isn't for everyone (this isn't a warehouse gym with broken machines and mildewy bathrooms). I've been a member of many different gyms (Golds, Crunch, Bally's, Sport & Health, LA Fitness) in various cities and this one is the best by far. If you're a powerlifter who wants to chalk and scream himself/herself to a new personal record this place is probably not for you. If you're looking for all the latest equipment and enthusiastic trainers to get you in shape and look your best this is the place to join. Everyone I've met while touring the gym, going through the sales pitch, taking classes, swimming in the salt water heated pool seems genuinely prideful in their work and the quality of the place they work in. The positivity that radiates throughout this place is more than enough reason you should join. read more
