Equinox Fitness Club is now open at Fairfax Square in Tysons Corner and the club is truly a sight to behold for fitness buffs (pun intended) and amateurs alike! The Club includes 5 fitness studios--main studio, yoga, private yoga, cycling and Pilates, swimming pool, executive locker rooms and tons of machines. What's really got me excited is the bevy of group fitness classes taught by some well known DC fitness gurus. One word: Kukuwa. OK two words: Gia-Ninh. The club also offers a very zen full-service spa with a great menu -- body bronzing, facials, sports treatments, manicure, pedicure and waxing available. Definitely the best gym in the DC area. It's large and never crowded, even at peak hours. It's probably the cleanest gym I've ever been to - not even the locker rooms smelled remotely bad. It is expensive but once you're in and using it you'll understand why. For me, you can't put a price on physical fitness anyway - and if it means paying a bit more than usual to use a first class gym, it's worth it to me. It's actually spoiled me as far as other gyms go - so far, Equinox is the standard I compare all other gyms against. One day another gym will probably surpass it, but for now, Equinox has set the bar. The equipment is all fairly new and well-maintained, especially the treadmills - this Equinox has the touch-screen treadmills that I like. It even had some equipment that I had never seen before, like the Vibro thing (can't remember it's actual name). The employees walking around with the towels were a nice touch too. Speaking of the staff, they are not pushy and very helpful, and don't give you the "don't bother me" or "I'm ignoring you" kind of feeling even if they are not training someone. I didn't take classes, but they have no shortage of available options. The trainers and staff are all friendly and remember your name. It has all the equipment I could imagine you'd need to get a workout on, and a large (by gym standards) indoor pool. My only complaint is that it does not have enough locations in the area - why are there only two in the DC area (Tyson's and Bethesda)? I would still be a customer if there were more Equinox gyms around. I think the place would also benefit from digital locks on the lockers - with the amount they are charging, I'd imagine they can afford to upgrade them. Highly recommended. I have been members of various gyms in both the DC and St. Louis, Missouri areas since the early 1990's. I have also been guests at gyms in LA, Raleigh NC, San Diego, and Hartford, Connecticut. Equinox is clearly the best gym I have ever used, and I am very happy that I splurged on a somewhat pricey membership. All the comments people have made about the impeccable locker rooms, general fastidiousness, and marvelous classes are on target. However, what really sets this place apart is the quality of its staff & clientele. If you want to work out in a very, very professional setting and converse with people who have some worthwhile ideas, then this is the place for you. read more

This review is not about service because we never got our service. My husband booked a couples massage for us in advance. We planned our entire date around when they were able to do the couples massage and hired childcare. They called us the day before and left us a message to cancel because they only had one massage therapist available. They offered back to back massages but that wouldn't work with our pre-made plans and it defeated the purpose of the couples massage. Not sure what the issue was with them not keeping our appointment but it is upsetting. Would love to have a better rating for them but I have only the lack of service to base this off of. read more

Gym is extremely clean and staff are fantastic. Management does not listen concerns and feedback from members. Class schedule changes monthly. I love all the instructors and classes, however there are less and less morning classes, despite a lot of people in attendance. Spoke to managers and they are not doing anything to change the schedule or take into account feedback. Very frustrated and high cost is not paying off if I can't make any of the classes. read more

I joined equinox in November. I'd been it using for aerobic interval training about three times a week. On Dec29 I noticed a sign that said Executive Locker Room. Upon inquiry I discovered this was an upscale locker room for men. There is no such locker room for women. I explained that this was offensive to me as a woman, that I don't support clubs who discriminate. I then respectfully requested to be released from my year-long membership commitment telling the assistant manager that, had I known, I never would have joined; that bc they had not told me about their gender discrimination, they had not received my informed consent. I was denied as 'offense at the Club's discrimination' is not an approved reason for canceling a membership. I asked to speak to the general manger but was told he was not there. I followed up with an email the next day to both the assistant and general manger and was denied again by the assistant manager. I have not heard from the general manager. I then informed Equinox that I was resigning my membership and canceling my auto authorization for future payments. They will still not release me from the membership and said that the women's locker room was actually larger than the men's regular locker room implying that this should make it fine for me. All that meant for me was that Equinox made a very conscious decision to propagate this discrimination because it cost them space in the main locker room. When people do nothing, these types of discriminatory practices continue. I urge all equinox members to say something to management about this if it bothers you. read more

I have worked out at the Equinox Tysons many times. What is it with many members using their Mobile Phone while working out? It is very annoying and unprofessional. I want to belong to a nice gym that won't allow mobile phones while I am working out. I joined this gym thinking the rules were going to be enforced. I wanted to love it, but sadly I do not find it worth the hefty price. While it is VERY clean, I do not think the gym is large enough and I do not find there to be enough classes to select from. I joined the gym originally because I wanted to incorporate many different type of classes into my schedule (pilates, yoga, running, etc), rather than using a boutique gym where I would be more focused on one sort of class, but after a few months, I just couldn't find a feasible way to bring these classes into my working schedule. The trainers are very knowledgeable and trained and the front desk was always nice. I just couldn't justify the price. Also... every one being decked head-to-toe in lululemon while completing 2-3 workout classes EACH day, comes across as a bit intimidating in a gym setting. I felt like a newbie that didn't know what I was doing, despite always having an active life-cycle and spending time in gyms in the past. This isn't the gym's fault, but it is also a bit irritating to have to park in a tight car garage every time I came here AND get my card validated to get the free parking. I would cross my fingers to find a spot I could actually fit my car into. I don't find this gym worth the price tag, but maybe that's just because of my lifestyle of being a young working woman, who doesn't have the time to spend multiple hours in the gym. read more

I have been an Equinox member for almost one year now. I really like this place because it has top-of-the-line gym equipment, locker rooms are clean and stocked with Khiel's, and they have great gym classes that have helped me reduce the size of my gut. The staff is super friendly. Darian is always helpful. Yes, the monthly expense is higher than other gyms in the area. However, I feel like I get greater use and more value out of an Equinox membership because the first-class facilities and staff make me feel motivated about constantly coming here (can't say the same about my old Sport and Health McLean experience ). I have been member at Equinox since 2012, and have never looked back. I have dropped into other gyms while traveling or going with friends for "trial" days (the Maryland Athletic club when I lived in Baltimore, Sport & Health Tysons, Sport & Health Worldgate, Washington Athletic Club, as well as many boutique studios such as SoulCycle, Barre Method, ect.), and no health club/gym has even come close to Equinox. To start the place nearly sparkles it is so clean. The equipment and gym floor is always immaculate. I have never been in a cleaner gym in my entire life. Because I do a lot of exercises that involve being on a mat or having to sit down it is so important to me that things are clean, and this gym takes it further than any other establishment I have ever visited. I constantly see employees cleaning machines, floors, showers, ect, The staff is seriously excellent. I also love the saltwater pool. I am a huge swimmer, and not getting out of a pool reeking of chlorine is nice. All of the trainers are very fit, and extremely knowledgeable in human physiology and body kinetics. I trained with an Equinox trainer (Omar) for about 6 months, and felt he really helped me advance way from my normal routine, and get results I wanted. I also felt that (from a health care professionals standpoint) the Equifit testing that Equinox does to asses your level of fitness is through, and very scientific. They don't pretend they can diagnose metabolic diseases, and they truly just are testing your overall fitness and condition. ........ I have a serious problem with some gyms doing "testing" on patrons that isn't physical. Its an absolute hoax, and is just smoke and mirrors. I should also comment that if your gym is trying to do testing on you to diagnose metabolic issues or other conditions you should find another gym as these tests should only be done and interpreted by a licensed health care professional, and doing anything otherwise is illegal. ...off my soap box...anyway... This is also one of the only gyms where trainers have floor duties, and walk around the gym floor lending a hand. They are always willing to stretch you out if you ask, help with your form or technique for various exercises, or just hand you a towel while you are sweating it out on the treadmill. They also have extensive equipment to range from free weights, wide range of machines, TRX, yoga studio, cycling studio, salt water pool, bosu balls, kettle bells and various equipment used in crossfit exercises ,ect. The locker rooms are loaded up with Kiehls products which I love. My only gripe is the womens' locker room isn't well vented, and causes a considerable amount of humidity which is no woman's friend. read more

I'm a huge fan of Equinox. I joined here about 6 months ago and have been working with a trainer. I would give it 5 stars for these reasons: - SUPER clean. SUPER SUPER SUPER clean. That's one of my gym pet-peeves so this is a big deal for me. - Smells fresh and inviting - another pet peeve when gyms smell like sweat and metal -- no thanks. - Staff are all very friendly and wanting to make sure you have a great experience -- from the front desk to the childcare, to the instructors and trainers and management. I've had nothing but positive interactions with everyone and everyone does their best to refer to me by name which is really super. - Amenities are on point: cool, eucalyptus towels, free parking, Kiehl's products, razors, tampons, anything you would need in the locker room. - Kids club is clean and fun and safe for my young toddler. Clean is a big deal because kids share germs like crazy. My son really enjoys playing here every weekend. This is the main reason I joined. I checked out the kids club at other gyms in the area and they either have disengaged attendants with kids zoned out to spongebob, spaces that look like they haven't seen Lysol in years and/or fifty kids running around chaotically ready to trample my little kid. So this is a big plus if that's a concern for you. Now, I'm actually giving it 4 stars for these reasons - It's expensive. It's 2x-3x or more expensive than the other gyms in the area: Gold's/24 Hour/XSport. It's a little cheaper than CrossFit, but still expensive as gyms go. But something's gotta pay for the service! - It's in a basement which is a little bit of a drag, mostly because when my legs are dead at the end of a workout, you still have to climb a long flight of stairs to leave! Haha. The Bethesda location is the same way, if you're coming from the locker rooms. - The branding is a little aggressive. I get it, but it's a bit aggressive. As I write out these negatives, they seem weird and petty, but that's my honest perspective. If there was another high-end club in the area that was a little less expensive (maybe $99 as opposed to $150?... ahem Vida?) I would check it out, but for me, Equinox is where it's at. read more

Equinox has a tendency of picking out cheap locales in expensive neighborhoods. It means the majority of their locations are in basements with no windows without access to natural light. As far as I've seen only the cheapest gyms use this annoying tactic to save money. Additionally, it is true, the place is sparkling clean. But they really use a large amount of harsh chemicals to keep it clean. The place eventually started making me break out in hives. I'm generally not sensitive to cleaning products. It's hard for me feel a luxurious experience that they are trying to portray when I am in a.... basement inhaling harsh cleaning products. read more

The gym is definitely pricey, but if you are like me and go to the gym daily / every other day then it is worth it. Everyone is pleasant, they provide Kiehl's Shampoo, Conditioner, Body wash, as well as body lotions. They also provide shaving and mouth wash and other bath toiletries (towels, equilyptus towels, etc) to stay fresh and clean. If you are OCD this club is for you. You will pay a lot of money but if you use the gym regularly it is worth the price. Equinox is the Bentley of gyms. They also have Yoga, Soul Cycling, Salt Water Pool, Massages, Facials, and every thing else you can imagine. The training staff are amazing too. They are not your "run-of-the-mill" PTs who do this part time. Personal Training is their career. They help with nutrition, post natal, rehab, and every type of training imaginable. Each trainer specializes in an area. I see my trainer 5 times a week and I have zero regrets on cost. If you want results, want to be in a stylish gym (where yes even all the celebrities go look it up haha). Then this gym is for you. The equilyptus steam room is great too after a workout. If you want to look like an Instagram model, then come here lol. read more

I've heard a lot about Equinox, mostly that it's pricey. Their motto is "It's not fitness, it's life." The Washington Post calls this location "Swanky." What used to be my favorite movie theater 10 years ago has now had a complete makeover. Their integrative health approach is something that sets them apart from your regular gym. They offer reiki. They have a nice studio for yoga (although the lights off thing still puzzles me), and a place to sit, talk, stretch and take off your shoes. The locker rooms are well lit and includes a lounge area. There is an indoor pool and a room for private yoga sessions. The staff wears different shirts that say Train. Maintain. Greet. The instructors are good at what they do, and super peppy. I attended a lululemon event here called Girls Night Out on Thursday. It was advertised as offering spa treatments, chocolate, snacks, and cocktails on top of the group fitness class, Centergy (yoga fusion). I was sweating in the first 10 minutes and found it challenging but crowded. It was my first time using 360 [circular] mats and the experience level varied. Their "spa treatment" was a massage chair with first come first serve in the middle of the lobby. The chocolate was individually wrapped Lindt, given in the goody bags we received from LLL, which was very nice. The snacks were chicken wraps, and there were samples of tasty smoothies from the snack bar. The cocktails consisted of vodka with your choice of oj, cranberry or soda. Not exactly what I expected, but my experience as a guest was above average. Parking is free after 8pm on weekdays. They have the sleeker version of most equipment you would find anywhere else, but it's the same workout. I don't consider myself a gym rat, but if I was, I might go here because it's clean and doesn't smell. read more

Class offerings have been cut drastically since I joined, and the instructors often seem unsure of what they are doing. Price keeps going up and quality goes down. The good classes are packed. The group classroom is way too small. Some of the instructors are so boring and just going through the motions. There's a new trend of instructors showing up about 5 min. late and taking a few min to set up so an hour class becomes 40 min. They recently added a new electronic schedule that is so annoying and you can't tell what classes are about to begin or are scheduled for the next day--it's a mess. I've tried to talk to the manager about my concerns, left a few messages, but never got a call back. Ok I do love this gym. I have been a member for about a year and I only have one complaint! 1) it is very clean. Which is super important. The equipment is always working and the tvs and plug in sets work. Amazing how hard it is for other gyms to have working equipment. 2) Love love love the classes. But this is my one gripe. In the evenings the classes don't start until 5:45 and that is usually a total body fitness class. There is only one spin class at night (6:30) which overlaps with any other core or pilates class you may want to take. THe total body fitness class runs right up to the start of the spin class which then will make you late to spin and then you miss part of it's value. I would give this place 100000 stars if more spin classes where offered in the evenings (5:00???? that would be great!). The morning classes don't seem to be as intense as the evening classes so for someone who is trying to meet some serious goals... more options in the evenings where things are kicked up a few nothces would be great. 3) The instructors and trainers are great. Even if you aren't currently working with a trainer, when you see one on the floor they will talk to you about a workout for the day after hearing what your goals are. 4) Parking is not at all a problem. 5) lots of towels, even cool lavendar ones. I have been going to Equinox 3 to 4 times a week since March. The good: 1. Free garage parking and it's right next to the entrance. 2. They is never a huge crowd and I'm always able to get onto cardio equipment early in the morning or after work during their rush without a wait. 3. The front staff are very nice in the evening and weekends. I'm sure the staff is great in the morning to ,but I'm half asleep. 4. A great Spa isk feeling when entering the building. Massage, facials and more are available for a charge. 5. Towels are free to use, and also full size towels for showers which is great and convenient. 6. Locker rooms are clean and always kept clean. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razors, moisturizer for the body, shaving cream, and a couple other toiletries are always available. All of this is very convenient for someone who hates bringing all their toiletries with them to and from the gym everyday (That would be me). 7. I can really go on and on about the good. It's clean, they offer plenty of classes, staff is friendly, I really do enjoy the eucalyptus towels at the end of my workout, the set up of the gym is modern, and I like going to the gym. Ok, I admit I actually like going to the gym! Ok The Bad: 1. Holy COW it's how much!!!! Please work with the sales rep you shouldn't have to pay the initial start up fee which can be as high as $500 dollars!!! Still you will be paying around $140 dollars a month if you're not working for a company that can get you a discount or have a family member enrolled. 2. For a large sum of money to go to the gym each month, I wouldn't mind ALL the TV's or least 95 percent of the TV's to work. It seems like they are working on it but I jump off and on equipment trying to find one where most of the TV's work (usually it's the audio). 3. I know I said the place is clean. They have cleaners all over the place, but I never have actually seen someone cleaning the equipment down. 4. When I started I was offered a free training session which I was super excited about. I was told they would put together a plan for me and I could go to them as much or as little as I wanted. I was thinking once every couple of months to update my workout routine. The training session was good, but she was unaware that the sales people where telling customers the trainers would put together a plan without buying sessions. I was totally bumped out that she didn't want to put a plan together for me and thought going to her to update my routine won't work out :(. Total bummer. So much so I didn't go back to the gym for a couple weeks. 5. Weight area is a bit tight. The end. read more

Overall, Equinox at Tysons is an excellent gym, though pricey. Being in this gym makes me want to work out. Pros: - The classes (yoga, pilates, Skinny Jeans Workout, strength training) are excellent as are the instructors. - I tried personal training- excellent trainers! Their trainers who work floor duty (in light blue shirts) can show you stretches and give you extra pointers on your workouts. - The overall cleanliness of the gym - The saline swimming pool (no burning eyes from chlorine) - Myriad of complimentary products available in locker rooms (razors, cotton swabs, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryers, deodorant, etc.) - Steam room is amazing - Complimentary eucalyptus towels help you relax and towel off after a sweaty workout - All elliptical machines and treadmills have headphone plugs and iPod plugs, which allow you to track your progress. Cons: - The spinning instructor was not impressive. She was difficult to follow and bike seats are very uncomfortable. - Kukuwa dance class was amazing, but discontinued. - Management did not communicate about closing the Elixir smoothie bar (which used to be my favorite). - My friend joined the gym two months ago and still has not been contacted for his complimentary personal training session. (I was contacted within my first two weeks of membership.) - The gym advertises their exclusive app (called "my EQ"), which can be accessed via the web site and iPhone; I use it to track my personal workouts; however, it does not allow me to input workouts the gym's scanner did not tag, due to technical reasons. Therefore, the system is unreliable in tracking my own progress. It also does not allow to sort or view by type of workout. read more

I quitted Equinox after they increased my membership two years in a row. $150 per month maybe okay if I can fully utilized the equipment there, but I suffer a tennis elbow and it took forever to heal. I informed the general manager and the membership advisor about my decision via emails. There was no response at all. I have to dispute the credit card charge. Not pretty. read more

As a triathlete, I find this to be an excellent gym. The pool is chlorine free and well kept. I often go in and do bricks: swim/bike or bike/run. The bikes and treadmills are always available. There's also a Sunday morning tri class with Kevin that's 45 minutes of spin and 45 minutes of treadmill. Kevin is a top ranked tri "athlete" and overall great trainer. This gym works. It's not a gym-rat gym. It's very inviting and comfortable. And the best part is that the locker rooms are kept very clean. Time to go workout... read more

Ok so this one goes out to the staff AND members of Equinox. THANK YOU! Your energy has just kicked my ass into some seriously fit gear. And especially to the "older" ladies (I am 37) WOW. I should be so lucky to be in the kind of shape the women are that attend this gym. So you know that commercial where the main character is looking around uncomfortable because she doesn't feel like she "fits" in with all the trendy gym ladies? I get the marketing gimmick but in all reality YOUR ENERGY HAS DRIVEN ME NOT DISCOURAGED ME! What better way to stay driven than to watch awesome fit people in action? In my first week of attending this gym the group of women who quite obviously enjoy the gym and enjoy each others company were all catching up with each other in the locker room after a class when one woman who had clearly not been there in a while stopped by the group and complimented another woman on how great she was looking and "how did she do it?" The woman who looked "better" (mayber 50 years old?) GLEEFULLY threw open her bath towel and shreiked "I KNOW! LOOK AT THIS!" I was not at an angle to view the success but her friend was and simply said "you have abs to die for" and then the started talking about eating right and interval training etc. etc. I have attended other gyms in the area. Equinox gets LOTs of props on yelp for their brand of soap but I really think the main story should be about the energy that the place fosters with it's members and how that energy is channeled into fitness and literally life saving lifestyle changes. Beyond all of THAT the ladies (and men) that run the kids club are exceptionally caring. TV's and computers are in the room but rarely on. They remember the kids preferences and idoiosyncracies and the kids love them. My kids are 4 and 1.5. My daughter was initially very clingy at drop off. The staff was kind patient and very very good at helping her (and me) to be okay with attending. My daughter now RUNS into the kid center with or without her older brother. My membership advisor, Joe Kim was beyond responsive so if you are looking to join, ask for him. You will be thrilled with true attention to service. read more

Haven't used the showers, yet, so I can't speak to the cleanliness of the place (locker room was crowded when I went but I'm sure everything is as clean as people say it is). But I can say that this gym will satisfy all of your workout needs. Please be advised, though, that the membership "advisors" at this location are quite pushy--I ended up joining Equinox through a New York location as I travel there often for business (I have an "All Access" membership, which gives me access to all Equinox locations). A word to the wise (Equinox membership "advisors"): as someone who also works in sales, sometimes, the "hard sell" just doesn't work (or pay)--if the "advisor" at this gym weren't so pushy, I would have joined through her (and she would have made a pretty commission--from me and a couple friends who I referred to Equinox who also subsequently joined). But because I felt hounded, I didn't think twice about joining the gym through another location (even though I live in VA). For those curious about Equinox (and the two DC locations--Tysons and Bethesda), feel free to contact me about free 7-day passes. Yes, I get a little something if you join but I also think it's a great way to get a feel for the gym before committing to a year-long contract. I have been a member of this gym for three months. My time at Equinox has been the best gym experience that I have ever had. The staff is extremely professional, the trainers are excellent and the classes are taught by great instructors. There just isn't any other gym like it. I've tried 24 Hour Fitness, Xsport, Planet Fitness, Golds and various bootcamp classes. This is one of the worst clubs I have ever belonged to. Not only does it feel like you're working out in a basement but the parking is ridiculous, it's takes 20 minutes just to get into the lot from the street because of all the business that share the garage. Everything is kind of new but it's not nearly as clean as you would think. The staff is unhelpful on their best days, indifferent on most days & rude on their worst days. My wife found the classes stale & boring. The personal trainer I was assigned was quite possibly one of the worst. He must have gotten "certified" over the internet in 20 minutes. I knew more than he did. When I asked him a question about periodization, he didn't know what I was talking about. He was often late for the few sessions I kept him & spent more time looking at women than training. When I joined they made a lot of promises that were not kept. Being a lifelong athlete recently left & went to Sport & Health in McLean. read more

I've been a member of Equinox for more than a year. The staff is friendly, the Trainers are excellent and they have plenty of Equipment options to choose from. (New Spin Bikes!) If you are a Clean freak like me there is no place better. The Maintenance class is all over the GYM and constantly cleaning the equipment and locker rooms. the Only drawback is the midday parking. Love the classes and the instructors!! They make the experience at the club worth it. Corporate should really invest in doing some kind of remodeling, the club is not up to some of the Equinox standards that I've seen. Some classes should use the "book" feature because they get too full and it is really uncomfortable trying to work out and having no space to do so without bumping into someone else. Overall the gym is good, but it is seriously all thanks to the amazing instructors who make the classes so great. Additionally, studios could use some cleaning in between classes. I've been to classes right after another one ends and the floor is literally full of sweat which is gross. Also no classes after 12 pm Friday - Sunday it's kinda unbelievable and really annoying, considering weekends are usually when people are more free and willing to work out. This club really needs to step up its game. read more

If you are a mother you are not welcomed here! Do they really expect me to pay $20-$25 per child per visit! That's on top of the membership. So let's say you are a new mother that's trying to get fit after giving birth, you would have to pay around $400 a month just in baby sitting fees. In order to bring your children to the daycare. No thanks, I'll take my business somewhere else regardless of how much I've enjoyed this gym in the past. read more

I had the type of membership that allowed me access to any Equinox and living in NY I made my way through a few with slight annoyances but nothing too traumatic other than the constant offers from trainers or the lack of space to stretch without getting a glimpse under the shorts of the person standing over you in 24 inches of mat space. But it was fine I enjoyed the beauty of the gyms and the minty towels...then I visited family in VA and decided to go for a swim. Big mistake. There were three people in the pool so I shared a lane with a woman who was swimming slower than me. She got out of the pool furious I was sharing her lane and complained to the life guard. Then I found a hand- written note on my locker telling me not to leave prints from the shower to the locker!! You read correctly...my flip flops left prints!!! Not a ton of water just a print!! Angry angry folks in a gigantic empty gym with little to no supervision. I decided so much complaining would not keep me from going to a gym but over time I decided to cancel my membership. This place reminded me I was paying twice what other gyms cost...for minty towels and angry swimmers. read more

"The Best Gym in America" Gym: VERY CLEAN. The cleanest gym I've ever been to. You will never the stinky/sweaty 'gym' smell here. Never crowded, never have to wait to use any equipments. Staff: very friendly, trainers are always available if you ever have any questions while working out. Classes: various class choices, zumba, yoga, pilates, indoor cycling, you name it, they have it. Others: products by Kiehl's in the shower, salt-water swimming pool, spa, shop, and snack bar. ESPN, you couldn't have said it any better. read more
