When looking for a dentist, choosing Dr. Eric was a no brainer. His Dad, Dr. Howard Dixon cleaned my teeth as a child and I grew up with his family in grade school. When I saw that he was in the family business I didn't think twice about making our 1st appointment. My instincts proved to be right. Dr. Eric and his staff did what seemed like the impossible. They got my 4 year old autistic twin boys to have their teeth cleaned and do x-rays all while thinking it was fun! I appreciated how they make the first visit very educational and welcoming for all. One of my boys had to have a tooth pulled. I was nervous about having him awake for the procedure. I didn't think he would sit still. I did not give my son or them enough credit! My son laughed and giggled the entire time while watching his favorite movie and didn't even realize Dr. Eric pulled his tooth until we told him what happened. We just went back 6 months later and my son ran up to the door saying, "Is this where I lost my first tooth?" all smiles. He was excited to go back in! The staff remembered my kids and came in just to say hello. When my son later told his grandmother about his visit he said, "Someone helped me brush my teeth!" The other son kept talking about his x-rays and how he got to see his big boy teeth behind his baby teeth. He thought that was really cool. They both also loved all the toys they earned while being there. I recommend Dr. Eric to all of my friends. They were able to take my twin boys, one of whom wouldn't open his mouth for anyone, and make it an enjoyable experience. 5 stars all around! read more

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience here. This was my sons only dentist and I did go to him for a couple of yrs. Cons: 1. They failed to diagnose that my son had an odontoma that could of been detected with simple observation or a panaramic x-ray. Because it was detected so late, it grew so big that removal had the risk of my sons jaw to break and it caused my much stress and complications. My new dentist found the odontoma just fr. visual inspection the first time, then took quick action. After 2nd opinions fr. 4 different Maxillofacial surgeons, all stated this could of been detected in the earlier yrs. fr. a normal pediatric dentist. These were all top surgeons btw. This was the only dentist my son had. 2. My son had a filling which required oral sedation. He was extremely scared to drink the medication. This Dr. was extremely impatient. He lectured & spoke to my child like when a parent is to discipline their own child, in a stern tone (except this wasn't his son) and used forceps to force his mouth open. My son screamed & cried and looked like he was hyperventilating. I was on the verge of tears and was very angry. He remembers all of this and is still traumatized to this day. Then they made us wait outside in the waiting room with all the other patients who were waiting! My son was tripping and falling bc of the med., everyone stared. Funny how they have so many office staff and not one person came to help. It was embarrassing. Shouldn't we have waiting in the a back room in private? To me this was not professional - I never went back. 3. The teeth cleaning just consists of a normal teeth brushing with a toothbrush & floss. I could do this at home. In fact after his cleaning, my sons back teeth still had plaque on it, what kind of cleaning was this? My dentist now uses the rotating brush and polishes, similar to adults on my 4 yr. old! 4. To me, this dentist seemed very rushed at consultations and didn't seem to interested in the comfort of my child. He didn't even talk to him much like pediatric dentists should...it is his specialty. To me it felt like he seemed a bit pompous and full of himself bc whenever I gave him a question his answer was always pretty abrupt & general, nothing informative & I never learned anything from him. He never took initiative to inform, give recommendations or advice, just answered questions from me & rushed out of there. In fact, one time his wife who also works there, came in & they talked forever while we were just waiting...wow, there talk was longer than my consult. No apology given by either of them...what a waste of my time. 5. They definitely need to modernize their equipment and techniques. Too long to write. PM me. I live in OC now. The pediatric dentists I have now are wonderful & the technology is highly advanced. This dentist does not seem very knowledgeable to me nor does the office seem professional. Don't let the "pretty" waiting room w. video games, free latte's & free toy/stickers mislead you - go to a place where the staff & Dr. genuinely cares, values your time and the Dr. is knowledgeable & patient to make simple diagnosis' & more importantly....makes your child have a wonderful experience. PROS -Very kid-friendly environment -Sensitive and caring staff -Well-trained knowledgeable doctors -Efficient administrative staff -Easy to find parking CONS -Very little. Unfortunately for us, after two great experiences with the dental assistants, hygienists and Dr. Dixon, we ended up with a traumatized five year old after his third visit which included a pulpectomy (baby root canal) and deep filling. Dr. Dixon did not handle the stress of his morning very well and that spilled over into his demeanor; he is human after all. I cannot find fault with his handiwork; my son's tooth and bite are restored and he is currently pain free. However, he was tougher on my son than I would have liked. That being said, I brought up the matter to him personally in a long email and he responded immediately and in a very respectful and adult fashion. He owned his behavior and apologized for "neglecting [my son's] needs for a tender touch." He has offered to help us find a new dentist, which is more than I would have expected. It was all a very unfortunate turn of events for us personally and for this reason I can only offer three stars "A-OK". Dr. Dixon, I do appreciate everything you and your staff did to help bring my son from a place of total fear of the dentist to one of relative comfort and ease. This reveiw is for the general practice. We have Dr. Eric Dixon and this is our second time seeing him. So far, so good. We do not anticipate having any problems with the Dr. Their practice is wonderful. They've got games in the waiting room for the kiddos and they make going to the dentist a highly enjoyable experience for the kiddos. My 3 year old twin boys love going to the dentist. They love getting the toys and stickers after they get their cleanings. The staff is super friendly. Dr. Eric Dixon's hygenist, Ms. Doreen is extremely sweet & my boys love hearing her call them, "sweet heart," "cutie pie," etc... Let's say, this practice really knows how to attract their client base, little kids & they make the whole experience of going to the dentist a fun & enjoyable experience (which I DO appreciate). Didn't think my boys could behave so well at the dental office. If there is any CONS, I would have to say, they recommend my boys to go for regular cleanings every 3 months, which I think is a little excessive. I think I will stick to having my boys' teeth cleaned every 4 months instead of every 3 months. I don't fault them b/c they are hyper vigilant about having a great smile and it is after all, only a recommendation. read more

Dr. Eric Dixon has been my boys dentist since they have been going to the dentist. They're now almost 15. He has always been an excellent dentist. I feel like Dr. Eric has grown in wisdom and patience over the years - perhaps this is a result of becoming a father himself. The hygienists are very kind and thorough. The space theme throughout the office, the video game area and the little playroom are very kid friendly. My quibble is that the waiting area seating is not adult friendly. Since I no longer go back with my children and also wait during long orthodontist appts, those instruments of torture, which some designer probably called benches, kill my back. The benches are also set up in some trendy, curves which makes no practical sense - there's no place to put a glass of water, everyone is facing all different directions and hard to even get to the magazine coffee table - it's a good thing the parents are mainly on their cellphones with the complementary wifi I have no hesitation to recommending this dental practice for your children. read more

Let me tell you folks....THIS IS THE BEST PEDIATRIC DENTIST in San Diego HANDS DOWN~ Dr. Eric Dixon !! We first saw Dr. Dixon because I put on Facebook that I needed a Dentist for my 7 year old because our previous dentist was way too commercialized. Several of my friends recommended Dr. Dixon. We went to him and his bedside manner with my Son was amazing. My Son was great because of the way Dr. Dixon talked to him and explained every single thing he was going to do while doing the exam. Immediately my son felt comfortable. THEN a Mothers worst dental nightmare happened this past weekend....my Son chipped his tooth on the side of the pool....he was scared and it was hurting him. I emailed Dr. Dixon on Saturday night, the Eve of Fathers Day. I was thinking he would get back to me first thing Monday am. NOPE, Dr. Dixon got back to me on, of all days, FATHERS DAY !! He was at the Padres Game to boot. I almost fell off my couch when my husband said I had an email from Dr. Dixon. He actually emailed me back on Fathers Day and assured me he would get my Son in to see him the very next day. He put my mind to ease that he fixes this type of accident on an almost daily basis and that everything will be fine !! He did get him in and he fixed his tooth. Not only did he fix the tooth but it looks better then it did before he had the accident. Dr. Dixon was amazing with my Son. I love the way he talks to the kids. He is gentle but also needs to let them know that they need to cooperate with him. He has the perfect touch !!! I would recommend Dr. Dixon to every single parent I come in contact with. Both of my children have been patient's of Dr. Eric's for the past few years. The staff is professional and efficient. My kids are by no means "enthused" to go to the dentist, but Dr. Dixon's office makes the experience go by quickly. I really appreciate the front office staff taking care of the insurance. They are great about explaining any up front costs and submitting to insurance. I don't like getting an unexpected bill after the fact, and I've never had this happen from this office. read more

the feeling i have with this dental group, not with Dixon but with the other one, Finger, is that they just want your money. I still remember that a few years ago, I broght my daughter (at the time 4 yrs) for check up and cleaning. Then they "discovered" so many things were wrong, that My daghter even needed a root canal. THe worst part is that for the treatment plan over 1 thosand dollars, they said, dont worry you company has good ins and will cover everything. I got sucked in and agreed to the treatment. Only later to find out that they stick a bill of over a few hundred to me for my out of packet pay. I feel so been cheated... till today, they send your letters saying my daughter is due to whatever, and syaing it's dangerous if not followed up... Being lazy, i still have not thought to change. I am even considering to change my own dentist to the other Dixon treating adults. But due to unexpected change in busy work, I cant keep an appoitment for my daughter a few days a ago. I did call, but probably too late I had short notice at work. They immediately sent me a bill of $50 for not keeping the appt. I guess i am lucky cause i am not going to use any dixon's, and I will change my daughter's as well. They can make money, but just not through me anymore!!!!! read more

We've been taking our kids to Dr. Eric Dixon for over 7 years. It's the best place for kids. Even my 2 yr old gets excited about going to the dentist. At our last visit she insisted on being first to have her teeth cleaned. They have the best staff and care available. We have had some dental issues along the way and I've always felt that Dr. Eric has gone above and beyond to make sure my children are taken care of. Thinking back through some of the procedures my 8 yr old son has had I asked him what he thinks of Dr. Eric and he said, "it wasn't fun having my tooth pulled and it took a long time, but Dr. Eric did a good job. They have fit us in at the end of the day due to a conflict in my schedule, they have combined two visits into one before so I could avoid the additional trip and avoid taking my son out of school again, and they are always on time but take the appropriate time with each of my children. After being traumatized by other dentists, we were referred to Dr. Eric and everyone is so great that my now 6 year old is happy to go for treatment. I drive two hours each way to go see Dr. Eric and I think the drive is really worth it! My son is still too scared to lay back in the chair but Rose is willing to work with him and do his cleaning while he sits up. My son has never been forced to do anything and everyone has been super nurturing. I will continue to drive 4 hours round trip because I don't think I will find any dental office as wonderful as Dr. Dixon's office. Your kids will really enjoy being seen here. read more
