This was a bomb cafe in Paris! They had such variety of baguette sandwiches to order and a lot of baked goods including the chocolate chip cookie croissant. This place was recommended to us by our tour guide. When we arrived there were a lot of people inside. The atmosphere was chaotic. There was no menu board so people were trying to struggle to get a view of the counter. There were four people behind the counter fulfilling the orders who caused most the chaos. Best way to enjoy these boulangerie is to walk there early in the morning so the bread is fresh out of the oven. We got there around 7 each morning on our way to the metro and our day's adventure. We ordered and shared 2 fresh, warm baguettes. They also have fresh made sweets, like berry tarts or mousse or other lovelies, and sometimes the kids ordered one or two to share. We walked next door to the farmers market and picked up some fresh cheese--ordered by weight--and slathered the cheese onto the warm baguette. Heavenly breakfast! They have the best almond croissants I've ever had (and maybe that had something to do with it being a CHOCOLATE almond croissant). This French bakery is absolutely delicious! It is a bit pricey, but I think it is well worth spending a little extra for their pastries. Come in at 8am for short lines and fresh out of the oven pastries. They have a white chocolate bread that is amazing because they bake the little pieces of sweetness into the bread. The baguette also tastes great and it's only 1 euro. Trying to order anything I couldn't point to was a nightmare because I couldn't speak French. I ordered something incorrectly and tried to correct the order. By the time I had it fixed, a long line had already formed behind me because that is how popular this place is. At first I was a bit intimidated because there was a line and everyone was ordering pretty fast and in French. I had to get out of line a few times because I wasn't ready (there are just too many beautiful things to look at!) and I didn't want to slow down the "machine" that they were running! They speak to you in french but definitely understand english (or in my case, poorly spoken french). The cakes and cookies look gorgeous - they put American ones to shame. We got the pain aux cereales, based on David Lebovitz's suggestion and it is PERFECT with a little wine, cheese, pate, cornichons, etc. We also got a bag of madeleines that melted in my mouth. We loved our pastries and had a very nice time sitting inside at the counter. The quinoa salad was amazing and came with bread and a little olive oil bottle. The tea was wonderful too and came with a hot water pot. We were there for a long time and the staff didn't mind. They have a little bathroom in the back. Tomato quiche was so delicious, and again we ate it for dinner but tasted like it was made only an hour ago. The next day I had the apple tart. Flaky dough with lots of apple filling, sort of like sweet apple sauce. I really liked but I would have also liked more apple pieces instead of a puree. No visit to Paris is complete without a visit to a Boulangerie. The stereotype is true, I've seen so many Parisians racing around the city with a baguette in their arm biking around the city. The French love their bread, with very good reason. This is the perfect place to grab a few pastries and baguettes to go for a picnic or nibble as you walk through the beautiful city. One notable baguette is their black sesame, it was extra crispy yet soft on the inside. Their sandwiches are standard, but may be better if toasted as the baguette is a little harder to bite into. The strawberry tart was the perfect ending, its flaky crust with a not too sweet and the flavorful filling was delicious. We were very tempted to buy another immediately after. I had an apartment for a week a block from this location, and came here nearly every day for a baguette and some other snack. The baguettes are amazing, the chocolate chip cookie (which they just call the "cookie") is incredible, and my girlfriend loved the Madelines. The place is friendly but it can be a bit overwhelming to a limited-French-speaker if you go in during a busy time, which is most of the time. You will find yourself a few people back in line when suddenly someone from behind the counter will make eye contact with you and ask you something which probably means "What would you like?" This is when you confidently chime out, "un baguette!". By the time you get to the front of the line (register) they will hand it to you and if you see something else you want in the showcase you can ask for it then. As with any place of business in France they appreciate that you pay with small bills or coins or exact change. Don't hand them a 20 euro note for a baguette that costs €1.05. read more

I tried a type of cookie that had almost the same crumbly/chewy texture of a french macaron. It featured a square, candied orange rind garnish, which had been baked in on top. It was not a sandwich cookie; rather, it had small bits of candied orange rind baked into the cookie. It was delicious! I'd never had anything like it before, and it kills me that I can't remember its name. Overly done with butter on the inside... and trust me I LOVE BUTTER but so much that it makes your fingers the bag very greasy. They need a better balance to give it the creamy butter bread inside without all the oils. The outside was crisy and flaky but Poilane and a few other places have better croissants in my opinion. Staff was odd... they wouldn't let me use a credit card because it was small purchase but when I gave them 50 euros they asked for smaller bills. My goal was to remove myself from the tourist areas and explore the back roads of the city. Upon doing that, I found a place with a line out of the door. Note: If you see a line that snakes out the door and on to the sidewalk, just go. It doesn't matter if you just ate. After a fifteen minute wait, I found a small but cozy establishment with numerous selections of sandwiches, salads, pastas and fresh baked breads. The only problem was that English was not widely understood. So after grunting and spitting out poor French in an attempt to get a delicious sandwich, I ended up with the best meal of the trip. Add in a cookie on the side, and some sort of fizzy fruity drink, and prices that won't make your head explode, and you have quite the experience. Do yourself a favor, take your food to go and make the 30 minute walk to the Tower. Eat your lunch there and you'll have the experience of the trip. read more

Definitely NOT overhyped- this is the best baguette I've had, and I've had very, very many. The regular baguette - not the whole wheat - is a work of art. Soft, substantial and chewy with a thick but not fragile or piercing crust. It's easy to make bread soft in the middle with a hard, brittle crust. Kayser manages to keep the entire thing chewy while still maintaining a crunch and without becoming rubbery. A hint of sour dough to the flavor? It was extraordinary. The croissants were also among the best I've ever had - incredibly light, flakey and buttery. Just melt in your mouth. Pain au chocolat was also magnificant. Pai de sucre was just ok, as was the whole wheat baguette (I'm pretty sure this is what it was, darker than the regular) - which was too thick and bready, almost stale tasting in comparison to the regular. So happy this was close by, so I could go every morning. They sell Kayser bread in some of the supermarkets, and while it was definitely fine, you're best going to the actual shop for the freshest. read more
