My husband has been coming to Dr. Almaraz for over 10 years. He recently just got Kaiser Insurance and has no choice to switch because of his insurance. With that being said, this office has been taking care of his blues for years. Their trust worthy and my husband hasn't last come since 2 years ago. But surprising enough his eyes have more less same prescription. The quality of care is here. But he wanted one last pay out of pocket visit bc my husband trust them. The office is clean & professional. Front desk was prompt and shocking we didn't wait not one minute for him to go inside. They didn't take about 45-1 hour with him on his eye exam but that means their detailed & take their time. That's what you want. Friendly. My husband didn't see Dr. Almaraz but another associate optometrist who my husband said his bedside manner was superb and he was very gentle and throughly. I don't recall the doc's name but he was professional and great. They also recommended LASIK for him bc he is a good ideal potential for for lasik. That's something we're gonna look forward to. Could not have had a better first exam by Dr. Saidi - even though his findings were not especially good. The office is very well appointed and he has all of the latest hi-tech equipment. After the standard exam & the fact my right eye wasn't working properly, he dilated my eyes & told me he did not see evidence of age related macular degeneration - but he suspected a macular hole. He explained that as we age, it is common for the vitreous sac to pull away from the retina and sometimes it firmly attached and as it pulls away, it can rip a hole. He said he needed to take an optical coherence tomography (OCT) to determine if I had a macular hole. He explained that the pictures were not covered by my insurance (but very reasonably priced (less than 40) & asked if that was okay. After taking the pictures, he explained what we should be seeing (pics of my left eye) & the difference between that and the pics of my right eye. He also said he wouldn't write me a new prescription for glasses as my left eye had not changed & my right eye was not working properly. He explained he would work with my physician to get a referral to a retinal specialist. Bottom line - He's knowledgeable. He's sensitive to the cost of things. He clearly explains all steps of what he's doing and why. He's calm and calming. Couldn't have asked for a better experience and so glad that he's available in our small community. read more

I was seen on time, the exams and measuring my vision since my last appointment for changes were quickly done. Failing the eye test to renew my Driver's License November 2021 and, after two exams by an Optometrist here in Big Bear, I was told I needed cataract surgery. After cataract surgery last August 2022 performed at Loma Linda University on my right eye, I had the fortune of being assigned by my insurance carrier to Dr. Saidi. After several appointments Dr. Saidi wasn't certain if I was ready to pass my DMV eye test. I knew I would eventually need cataract surgery on my left eye, so I threw my hat in ring with my second surgery scheduled for February 22, 2023. Now if you weren't hiding under a rock, you were well aware of this past winter; if you lived down the hill you couldn't drive up and if you lived up the hill you couldn't drive down. This winter-wonderland event began February 23, 2023, one day after my second cataract surgery, hence I was unable to make my post-op appointment at Loma Linda . . . this would have consequences. By the evening of the 23rd I felt as if I had a large pebble or sand in my eye; to say it was uncomfortable would be putting it mildly. Dr. Saidi did a follow-up call to see how my surgery went and once I filled him in on the pain, he insisted I go to emergency. So, there I was sitting in the emergency room when the Dr. entered and the first words to me were "What are doing here?" I explained my situation and that Dr. Saidi insisted I seek medical attention. I was not aware that Bear Valley Hospital has no optometry equipment nor is an Optometrist on duty. It was decided the attending physician would do a "face-to-face with Dr. Saidi. My eye was anaesthetized (which was awesome) and dye administered. It was determined that I had a "ruptured cornea"! The attending physician rounded up several meds Dr. Saidi requested, and I was on my way. I had no idea how serious this was; I just wanted the pain to stop. Dr. Saidi called or messaged me daily. All roads to Big Bear remained closed and yet Dr. Saidi made it up to his office in spite of the closures and continued to treat my ruptured cornea at least 2 to 3 times a week for the first three weeks and then once-a-week thereafter. I'm elated to say that I've recovered. I have yet to find a doctor, any doctor, who is so professional, thorough and compassionate toward his profession and patient care. My sincere appreciation to Dr. Saidi and his wonderful staff; little did I know I would owe the sight in my left eye to his incredible skill and competency. Thank you Dr. Saidi!! read more

I am a part time resident of a small community in the San Bernardino mountains. During a weeklong stay, I noticed that one nose pad had come off my eyeglasses. I googled, "eyeglasses near me" and went to this office in Big Bear. How wonderful the service was!!! Lovely greeting by the receptionist/scheduler who immediately told me they could help, even though I had just dropped in and wasn't a regular client. The optical technician replaced BOTH nose pads and then re-fitted my frames to ensure that the progressive prescription lenses were correctly positioned. When I asked how I could pay, I was told to have a great day and to come back if further help was needed! Lovely experience. Dr. Saidi (who now sees most of the clients) completely changed my life by fitting me with Sclarel Lenses, which I never even knew existed. After 30 years of wearing uncomfortable contacts that damaged my eyes, he immediately guided me through a process to allow my eyes to heal as much as they could and then get me the Sclarel Lenses that allow me to see slightly better than 20/20, which is a miracle. I have extreme near sightedness and fairly extreme astigmatism which is too much for Lasik. My old contacts used to turn in my eyes constantly and I my vision changed constantly with them. My eyes were always irritated and red. Now, I can actually read the signs on the freeway when I drive and my eyes are rarely red or irritated. It is always a pleasure to visit this office. None of the other eye doctors I visited ever commented on the health of my eyes or even told me about Sclarel Lenses. I reccommend that you ask Dr. Saidi about them. I cannot believe i did this, but it happened and in order to not ruin the entire vacation, i needed to find contacts! I called early on a Saturday morning and the office was closed, but had a message to contact the doctor for emergencies. I called his cell and he answered right away. Came in here today without an appointment to see if I could get some contacts. I have glasses already and recently updated my prescription with a doctor down the hill. But I didn't want to go all the way down the hill in order to get contacts, so I decided to stop by Dr. James Almaraz's office to see if they could help me out. The ladies in the front were very friendly and nice. I gave them my prescription and they were able to give me pricing for my contacts. They gave me the pricing for a year, which was $5 cheaper for each box compared to the 6 month supply price. One of the ladies also brought out mail in rebates for both options. I went with the 6 month option as it came to $180. The year option was a bit more even with the $5 discounted price and higher mail in rebate it would have come to $315. So my cheap A$$ went with the 6 months to save money lol I don't wear contacts daily anyway so I really didn't need a year supply. Anyway I would recommend this office. read more
