I have studied with Eriko; to better my abilities to communicate in my business relationships with businesses in Japan. Studying with Eriko, was "just what the doctor ordered", a quite immersion in the Japanese culture, while in the united states. She recommended: CDs to view and Japanese language TV station to watch, to train my ear to the sounds of the language. She reminded me when the Annual Japan Festival was occurring in Duluth, taught me how to cook Japanese rice better, invited me to events at the Internationally School; where her children attended, and on my last trip to Japan, made a quite request for me to pick up some Japanese tea, from her home town. At first the request seemed trivial, until I got to Japan; Tokyo, Kanagawa. Then, to get to her hometown, I had to ride the Shin-KanSen (bullet train) from Shin Yokohama Station to Shin Osaka Station in Osaka. I traveled alone, followed the signs, picked up my tickets, made reservations at a hotel in Osaka and made it there, picked up the tea and experienced a totally different side of Japan; slightly different dialect, slower and friendlier than Tokyo, that exceeded my expectations, many times over. And, later make the return trip with equal joy and tea in-hand. I would recommend the experience to anyone traveling to Japan. Note: Buy your rail pass, before actually traveling to Japan! All of the above was possible, because Eriko did not just get me started learning to speak, read and write Japanese, she removed the fear of the unknown, gave me the confidence and tools to use all the Japanese, that I learned under her tutor ledge and opened me up, to all of the other ways, that the learning would continue. You will be absolutely delighted to have Eriko Dunn as your Japanese Tutor! Eriko tutored my son while in college and prepared him for the Japanese Proficiency Test, Level 1. She had marvelous ways of teaching the basics and researched and made her own teaching lessons in addition to the book methods. Well, before I took lessons with Eriko sensei, I had only studied Japanese with audio CD's and college intro classes. The audio CD's left me sounding like a robot and a tourist. The college intro classes were too expensive and couldn't really get the professors help with anything (large classroom) However all that changed with Eriko sensei help. Thanks to her, I can now read all the katakana, hiragana and 115 + kanji characters. I can freely start and hold a Japanese conversation and understand the majority what's said back to me. I no longer sound like a tourist trying to speak Japanese, I sound like a Tokyo native now thanks to her. I also love the fact that Eriko sensei lessons are one on one. I can ask her kanji questions and she gives insights on Osaka culture. My young, teenage daughter started teaching herself Japanese and requested a tutor and we are thankful that we found Eriko-san. Because of the pandemic, my daughter started taking her classes remotely, once a week with a small group of similarly aged students. She took classes with Eriko-san for over a year before discontinuing due to other obligations and the ability to start taking Japanese in school. Eriko-san's tutelage gave her a huge advantage in her school class. My daughter was disappointed to leave the class because she loved Eriko-san and even did her camps whenever she could. Eriko Sensei is such a magnificent tutor I don't know where to start praising her. She worked with my schedule even though it was not convenient for her, and after barely two months of tutoring I saw my listening comprehension, spoken abilities, kana reading abilities and vocabulary all skyrocket! Eriko has tutored my middle-school aged son for almost two years. She has a wonderfully pleasant teaching style. I started taking lessons from Eriko Dunn last year, which was my third year of studying Japanese. Since then, my lessons with her have continued to be one of the highlights of my week. Eriko is a fantastic teacher. I recently had to start learning Japanese (yes, I did not know Japanese before I started with Eriko...) I have now been taking lessons for the last 4 months and she has taught me enough to now understand my mother during Christmas. My mother is elder and is forgetting English. After learning that I will be traveling to Kagoshima University for a veterinary exchange program next summer, my mom and I began looking for a tutor in Atlanta for this summer.
