I would warn anyone wishing to purchase a bike online from Erik's Bikes. My experience buying an almost $4,000 BMC road bike was very disappointing. It started well, with the perception of a discounted price against the original price. When I called the online customer service to ask if it was a new bike without any defects, they assured me it was. They did qualify that although it may have been on the floor, they would not send me a bike with defects. HOWEVER, the bike arrived with a large gash in the paint, which also came with a gash in the FexEx box-- it was unclear if the gash came from FedEx or before shipping from Erik's. When I asked Erik's what my options were given the situation, they said it looked like a type of gash that happened on their floor, so they offered a $50 gift card or I could return the bike. For a $4,000 purchase, that's not ideal, especially since I noticed the gash after I brought the bike to be assembled. They said I could also make a claim against FedEx but said they would not provide a waiver to allow me to process a claim with FedEx. What's the point of sending me to FedEx if they won't provide the required waiver? Although Erik's did give me the option I to return the bike, I feel that the customer service experience was disappointing and I will not be making any future purchases from Eriks. I warn anyone out there looking to purchase anything online that is discounted to know that this is the likely response from Erik's Bikes. I paid $4,000 for a dream bike, and am left disappointed, misled and frustrated. I will take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Ryan did an excellent job fixing the rear gear of my single speed road bike. I walked into the shop on a Saturday and helped immediately. Ryan was very professional, communicative, and transparent about the costs and the timeline of the repairs throughout the process. The initial estimation was two weeks, because they needed to order a specific part, but they called the next day and told me they got the part and could fix my bike the same day. My bike runs smoothly again and I will certainly go back if I needed other repairs in the future. read more

I have been trying to be patient. I bought my first full-suspension bike in July from Erik's in Woodbury. I took it back w/in the first 2 weeks due to derailer being off a bit...and the shock not completely holding it's "charge." The derailer wasn't a huge issue, they said I could ride it and they would work on the shock issue with the manufacturer. i could still ride it, but i have spent the last 3 1/2 months trying to get my bike in working order. I dropped my bike off on 11/4 to finally get the shock replaced/repaired. I never got an update. I contacted them on the 11th for an update. They said they are packing the SRAM for warranty service. I checked back on the 14th. They said it would take 7-14 business days to get the shock back, then they would install it. I reminded them that I have a clinic the first week in December and I need my bike for that. I finally contacted them again on the 22nd and they said they most likely won't get me my bike in working order by the time i need to leave for my clinic. They have told me it's a warranty issue with the shock ---- but they sold me the bike with the bad shock. I'm incredibly frustrated and will NEVER buy anything from them again. Company doesn't honor their Sales pricing. Offering great deals only to cancel your order days after you place it. Sales associate caught in a lie after saying it was out of stock. When I asked why product was still listed on website (at a higher price of course), she began stumbling over her words and saying they can't fill my order with their last pair and that the website hasn't caught up, also probably a lie. Someone when't to the trouble to see it was out of stock but didn't bother to fix the inventory, what BS. I'm now paying 15% more than I would have if I just bought them from a reputable company I had lined up previously. That deal is now gone. Thought I might have a new store for my outdoor gear/mtb purchases but these guys clearly can't be trusted. Thanks for nothing Erik's, you guys suck. Little Erik looks just like this! And so does his bike. So every College needs a bike shop and this one is not too overpriced and definitely locally-owned so I fully support it. In some ways it reminds me of my Dad's shop (which he since sold) and this place definitely needs a bigger space to handle all the stuff that they're dealing with. But it's invaluable. Cuz everybody around here is cycling even in the ridiculously cold midwinter because it's such a cycle friendly neighborhood with so many great things within walking distance - or should I say cycling distance. read more

Wow. Some of the worst customer service EVER. I got a spin bike that starts with the letter P for Christmas. I was in need of shoes for said bike. I found myself in the area and decided to stop in. The store was quite literally empty of people save for the two employees working (or I should say one employee and the flickers of another). Employee number one was helpful enough with getting me shoes. He didn't know a lot about bike shoes, but he tried his hardest. He kept saying the other employee was the one to ask, and often would leave me alone for long periods of time. At one point I was left alone standing there for five minutes (I was keeping an eye on the time because I had a meter going). After finally finding a pair of shoes I am told to go downstairs and this magical mysterious other employee will help me out. I walk downstairs and... No one. Quite literally there was no one downstairs. I look around because I know there is someone else working there. I see someone make eye contact with me in the back employee area, and then he just turns away and uses the microwave. He then vanished as quickly as I saw him. After another five minute wait (I thought this mystery employee couldn't be this bad at his job) I finally trudge back upstairs and inform the other employee that in fact no one was helping me and there was no one watching the shop. I could have just walked out the door with my shoes. I have never felt just so overlooked and dismissed before. I ordered my dream bike from Erik's on August 17th 2022 and was informed that I would receive a shipping notice when it was picked up by FedEX. Nearly two weeks later on August 30th 2022 I had not received a notice from Erik's or FedEX so I decided to call Erik's customer service line. The woman on that call told me that she would contact the store and they would call me back. Never got a call back from the store. Later that afternoon I called the store myself and was told that the bike I ordered was damaged and would not be shipping to me. With little explanation / warning or heads up I was then sent an email with a receipt that my money had been refunded. This might be the worst big purchase experience of my adult life. If I didn't live 1000 miles from this shop - someone - specifically the store manager would have been in for a serious in person one on one conversation about how this purchase was handled. Not sure how or why I wasn't contacted the minute this damage was noticed and Erik's is very lucky that I did not receive a damaged bike on my end. I work a international customer service position and would most likely lose my job if I handled a situation like this. Super let down by Erik's - word to the wise my bike friends. Peace! read more

Received terrible customer service for an online order I placed. I requested my online order be canceled before I received any sort of notification the order has been shipped. I placed the order 1/5 at about 6pm. Their customer service line closed at 5pm. I called first thing in the morning 1/6 at 9am when they opened and was told it's too late the warehouse already processed the order and I'll have to wait until the order arrives and ship it back. The "cancellation window is closed" is what I was told. If their customer service line was closed overnight when is the cancellation window? I tried asking the rude and snarky representative why he couldn't make a phone call or send an email to the warehouse to just cancel the order. If the order has not shipped yet and is still in your possession why can't they just issue initiate the return/refund then and there. It's now the end of the day 1/6 and the order still has not shipped. Really seems like they are just making this more complicated then it needs to be and wasting both of our times. read more

I bought something nearly 3 years ago without registering as a customer and was looking for a receipt for a warranty claim with the manufacturer. Be very careful buying expensive bikes from Eriks Bike Shop, ours came damaged from them and they offered us $25 as compensation. We really thought we'd found a reputable shop to order our new bike from, we were wrong. While their website and ordering process was professional and quick, their customer service after the sale is lacking for products worth thousands of dollars. There was a delay in shipment of the bike, which is understandable with the rush on bikes, but there was no uodate from them and we had to reach out to them to see if there was an issue. The bike finally shipped and we received it faster than expected, which was nice. however, while unpacking the bike and taking their protecting cardboard off, a big gouge was revealed. there was no damage to the protective cardboard or the shipping box, so the gouge was clearly there when they packed it up. When we reached out to Eriks Bike Shop to hopefully find a solution to the issue, they offered $25. That seems out of proportion for a damaged frame on a bike worth thousands of dollars. They could have had a customer that would have spent thousands more in parts and accessories at their store, but because they didnt even attempt any type of customer service, they lost that business to a more reputable store. I have always gone to the ERIK'S Dinky town store for my annual bike tuneups. This time I had an issue with my Specialized S-Works BOA dials failing on one of the shoes. Mike the manager at ERIK'S was great he said we can reach out to Specialized to see about warranting the shoes, I purchased them from Erik'S in 2014, couple days later Mike called and specialized covered me with a brand new pair of shoes. Poor and slow customer service. Not very helpful when I for advice on which bike to buy that was not very specific. When I brought the bike in for repairs it took over 3 days just for some brake repairs , just to let me know I would need to wait another week for the parts they needed if it was to covered by warranty. I couldn't wait this long as my bike is means of transportation and it cost me a surprise $150 would not recommend them at all. read more

I wanted to purchase 2 electric bikes and buy them local rather then online to have local service. I found 2 but at 2 different Erik's locations. I was having trouble placing the order online so I called the customer service line. Chris very pleasantly assisted me with links to place the order for 1 bike for myself and 1 for my wife. I went to the Burnsville location to see if it was ready and they said they could have it ready in an hour or so. They suggested to try the Eagan store for my wife's bike as they were not as backed up in service. I went to the Eagan store and they said my order was cancelled due to my credit card company. I called AM EX in the store. The charges were approved and pending Erik's Bike shop to process. I asked the sales person in store to please call or get a manager. He called their main customer service line and had me talk to the manager Garret. In the mean time I over hear 2 sales people talking that the bike I bought was sold to someone else. Garret started talking about the many reasons my credit card was declined and he couldn't divulge the reason and talk about credit issues. There were no credit issues,it was all approved by Am Ex. Garret said they use a 3rd party processing company that declined the transaction. I asked him to call them or give me the name and number so I could call them. He refused and continued to talk about the negative reasons it could have been declined. I verified in store that the bike was re-sold even though I had an order number and AM EX was still waiting for the store to process the charge. Not once did Garret offer any type of resolution. Keep in mind I still had a bike purchased to be picked up in Burnsville. The people in store made a good effort to locate another bike like the one I bought for my wife but there were none in stock. Garret could have suggested a different model to be equipped like the Level 2 we wanted, but all he wanted to do was be demeaning to me regarding their failed 3rd party card processing. I told them to cancel my order at Burnsville and credit my card. I followed up today with a call to the Erik's bike Customer Service line and got Garret again. I asked him to please have someone above him call me. His reply was there is no one above him. I was ordering a brand new snowboard on the website and even spoke to an employee before purchasing to ensure the board was in stock, in which they told me they did have it available. I placed my order and ensured it went through with the confirmation number. However, today i received an email saying my order was cancelled. I reached out to customer service staff and was met with rude staff who told me there was nothing i could do now. Awesome employees with astounding customer service. I bought a used bike at Erik's in Rochester MN on a Friday, and my first time riding it was in Minneapolis on the following Tuesday. While attempting to adjust the seat for the first time, I learned the screw holding the seat post in place was stripped. I was able to loosen but not retighten the seat. Extremely frustrated, and 7 miles from my car I looked up the closest Erik's and this was the place. I rode here without a seat and the second I entered they took care of me. They guys working the counter immediately fixed the issue, and were even able to hook me up with a ton of info and recommendations for lights. Erik's has some amazing people working for them who truly care and enjoy what they do, and that shows. They definitely gained a life long customer today. read more

The price tag said $51.99, the receipt said $60.99 Had to go back the next day to get my money back. During the return they asked for my phone number, I refused, they said they had to have it and couldn't do the return without it. Clerk promised it would only be used for the return. So I gave in... Next day I start getting Text Messages from them asking for a review... Well here it is! Check your receipt, Don't give them your phone number, and watch out for their service dept. Don't assume you're going to get good service just because of the 'Erik's' name. I brought my daughter's bike into the Minnetonka location for some work, including the brakes. They fixed the brakes and some gear work for $130. Approximately 2 months later her front brakes literally just fell apart while she was riding her bike, very nearly causing a bad wipeout. I took it back in and found out that their service warranty is only 30 days, so I had to pay another $73 just to get the front brake fixed. Again. When I got it home IMMEDIATELY AFTER HAVING IT REPAIRED the front tire would barely rotate because the rim was rubbing on the brakes. I didn't try to figure it out because I was PO'd and that's why I paid them $200 to get the bike road ready. It turned out that the wheel was not put back into place correctly, causing the problem with the brakes rubbing. In a not-so-funny twist, the manager on duty tried to blame my daughter and I for the problems, stating that it's our responsibility to do a safety check. We do, by the way, but no safety check is going to predict the brakes just suddenly falling apart. It was really infuriating to be blamed for their crappy work. And our safety check was when we found out that the wheel was rubbing! I told him that I think THEY should be doing a safety check before they return serviced bikes, and he just blew it off by saying, not in so many words, that it doesn't matter because even if something is wrong they'll just blame the customer. (At least, that was my impression and experience.) Also, I pointed out to the "manager" that there are cracked rubber housings on the ends of the brake cables going into the handles, and after two trips (and $200) to work on breaks I would have thought they would be fixed. I was told that they are fine as is and probably don't do anything anyway. Hmmm. Obviously I'm not going back EVER, but I want to at least let people know what to expect. read more

This is the first time I have ordered or done business with Erik's. I bought a helmet with the Angi system in it an when I went to register it, the code wasn't valid. I'm thinking, someone must have got the code somehow and used it. I know there are sometimes issues that come up when doing business with anyone so I contacted Erik's by phone. I explained that an activation code would cost $30 if I didn't have a working code so within an hour they refunded me $30 so I could buy one. When the business handles things so well and so quickly, that's when you know how good they really are. Erik's has done this for me and has proven just how great of a business you truly have. That was ok but told them I needed it by weds. For a weekend trip. Called on Tues they said it was in process. They never call to say it was done. Went on trip and finally got a text and message on the following Sunday. Was very disappointed. If this is how long it takes to prep a perfectly running bike,then what was it going to be like when I actually needed repairs. Went in and cancelled the buy. I just bought a new bike and they used zip ties to hold the brake cable to the cable guides. This is not a bad thing in itself, but they were positioned so the lock part was facing up and poking me in the leg. Hence the need for some zip ties to reposition them in a non-pokey way. I was going to brace myself and walk into Varsity - where I've had more negative experiences than positive ones - but then I remembered Erik's was right next door. It's pretty commercial looking inside and seems to cater to a less hipster crowd than Varsity or Re-Cycle. Like to regular people. The guy at the counter was pretty friendly to me and told me to go to the back where they do repairs to get some zip ties for free. I had to wait a few minutes while another guy was getting a new set of rear sprockets, but he gave me a few extra in case I messed up. I also picked up a patch kit and they made sure I had tire levers and a pump to actually patch my inner tube correctly. Nice touch! Overall the guys were not snobby and pretty helpful. Although some might be turned off because it's a chain, it's still a local business. I also noticed they rent bikes, so if you're touring the campus or something, this is a good alternative to driving around all day. read more

My review is specifically for online shopping. A friend had told me about some of their closeouts last month, and I jumped at the pricing for a complete snowboard set up. Pricing was awesome, shipping out to the PNW was super fast, and everything was great. I took the new setup out to one of the resorts here, and by about mid day I noticed my boots were feeling awfully tight around my toes. Tried different setups with the coiler, the interior section, but with no luck. By the end of the day I was having to curl my toes under (um.. ow!). I figured I was just outta luck since 1. They've now been used, 2. I already tossed the boxes and receipts, and 3. They were on super clearance prices. I emailed them a couple days later explaining the situation, asking if there was anything that could be done. I offered to pay for shipping, or whatever was necessary. I dealt with Aly through emails, and she couldn't have been any more awesome. They still had a pair of the same boots in the next size up, so she said she'd put them aside, and to just send in my other ones and they'd gladly exchange them for me. I was expecting a 'no can do', so it totally made my day that she made it really easy to me to get the pair that I needed. In a nutshell, you guys are AWESOME, and really helpful. While I have no intentions of ever moving out of Seattle, I will most certainly order and buy from the website again and again. read more

Although I find Erik's tagline delightfully clever, I have avoided this location for a few years, opting to go to the small shop next door. But they don't always have what I need (and I won't bash them in another shop's review), so I have ventured into Erik's several times. The service has been helpful, friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable. They have been incredibly kind. Recently I needed a few special screws for my bike, and they dug through their miscellaneous screw bin and gave me what I needed. They have earned my loyalty. Bottom line: You don't have to have a gear tat peeking out of your cutoff black Dickies to get good service here, folks... but they will help you even if you do. read more

I found a bike helmet online but the site said "in-store pick up only." It was THE last helmet in the country that was the color, size and brand that I wanted. I called the shop in MN and Ryan found it and put it aside. Then called customer service and Cameron worked to figure out a way to "trick" the computer system as a workaround and it was shipped, free shipping as well.
