We tried to visit after summer sounds and the bartender yelled at us for no reason before we could even place an order. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Biked the intraurban trail to Cedarburg and just looked for a place to grab some wine. Was so pleasantly surprised! It's about a half mile off of Main Street and so so cute. But what really makes this place 5 stars is the delicious wine selection (also had full bar), excellent prices, great service and free pistachios!!! We also played their Yahtzee and sat outside for a lovely early evening glass (okay, bottle) of wine. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. read more

BEWARE!!! Six of us stopped at this bar last night. We waited a while for drinks. Trying to make small talk, my sister complemented the owner on his bar. He got angry and turned vicious. His attitude continued to get worse. He was so belligerent that I walked out. Others were so shocked at his behavior they were shaking their heads in disbelief. He then kicked my sister out of the bar and then told my Mom to "get the f#*% out of his bar". She was just sitting there being quiet. My Mom was shocked! I can't believe he would talk to her like that after she said nothing. Please steer clear of this bar. Not a safe environment. He will never have to tell me to get the f#*% out of his bar because I will NEVER be back. read more

Had an extremely confusing and super unpleasant experience at Ernie's. Came in around 8 on a Saturday night with four people already at the bar but no bartender. After waiting for about ten minutes, a guy emerged from the back and said, "what do you want." We ordered drinks but he apparently didn't like the way that I tried to order a classic Old Fashioned. I was told "don't call it that," "don't make that face" and eventually was told to leave. I was genuinely shocked and left without saying a word. Recently had a very disturbing experience at Ernie's. I went in to order a drink, not sure what I did or said wrong to Ben, but was told I was ugly and to leave and never come back. We always make Ernie's one of our stops during strawberry festival and have never been treated like this. Later we talked to friends that had a similar experience with Ben that same day. Ernie's is our favorite bar in Ozaukee country. They have a great wine list as well as some really nice beers and spirits. The owner (also bartender) is knowledgeable, accommodating and very welcoming. There are always some complimentary snacks out and the building as well as the patio are beautiful. I have driven past this place a 100 times but never stopped , well we did the other night only to fine one of the best places around. The owner Ben is a great guy (Ernie has passed on and is in doggie heaven.) the small cozy place is well stocked with nice wine and beers. The bar is a vintage wooden back bar made by the celebrated Brunswick company and is neatly kept , I also want to say the main bar is also but has a restored wooden top on it that matches well. They put out nice things to snack on since there is no food prep. The bathrooms are small but CLEAN , one person at a time. I really don't see the problem here , actually it's perfect we all know if you washed your hands after going so you are not back at the bar digging in the snacks with your potty hands. First, let me start of by saying that this place looks like a total dive bar from the outside. It has an dated exterior with a large old-school Pabst sign. Driving up we almost didn't get out of the car saying, "Are you sure this is a wine bar?" We did eventually get out of the car and went inside. The place is tiny, with room for about 25 people. We were lucky enough to snag a table in the area by the restrooms. Oh, I'll tell you about the restrooms later. The wine list was a bit small for wine by the glass and they did not have any Cedar Creek Settlement Wines (from the winery located in Cedarburg). When I come to Cedarburg, I expect an option to have a glass from the local winery. We went on to order our wine and found the prices to be about 7-10 a glass. We were given pistachio nuts as a free snack (they offer no other food). The inside was clean and cozy with a candle on each table and flowers on a couple tables. The music was oldies rock, which was not what I was expecting. What's wrong with a classic like Frank Sinatra? It is a wine bar after all. I would even suggest blues, classical, ahhh anything but rock at this location. The weird things about this bar: The restroom is a closet with a toilet for the women and a separate closet for the men, the lone sink is located outside the men's and women's restroom which is right in the middle of the sitting area. This makes you feel like everyone is watching you wash your hands. (and perhaps critiquing your hand washing abilities!) There was a side door open in this area which showed a dirty back room. It would be best to keep this door closed or install a different type of door. Perhaps a saloon door. Ok, enough about doors. The last thing I will note is that they have an old dog named Ernie walking about the place. This is where the name came from. Now, I don't mind dogs, so this didn't bother me... but I am sure it could potentially bother people including those with allergies. read more

I have been here many times. Each time I leave, I always leave very pleased. My wife and I each had a glass of pinot. We then tasted a few others and had a nice conversation with the owner, Ben. Ernie is gone (but not forgotten), the building is old looking from the outside but very nice inside. Snacks are always there. most everything that the reviewer Jax hates makes Ernies a Wonderful place for many of us. We are sad that "Ernie", the cutest dog in the world, is not there any longer. We drink to him when we are there. We love the simple snacks...that are awesome...pistachios, peanut MM's, Macadamia nuts, chocolates, etc. The Beer and Wine selection are amazing. Why feature a local wine when you can go to that winery? Duh. We stopped in four years ago to see who had the great humor to have a "Wine Bar" listing on a PBR sign....we continue to love the people we meet there, the hand crafted drinks, and the awesome selection of beers, wines, and spirits. This is Cedarburg's hidden gem! Ernies can best be described as quaint and intimate with candles on predominately high top tables. There is also outdoor seating available. Eclectic music plays softly in the background and a flat screen tv is typically muted but tuned to a sporting event. The wine and beer list is quite extensive with reasonable prices. Along with your beverage, you will be treated to a bowl of pistachios and, often, chocolates. The bar is old-styled wood with a full length mirror adding to its charm. You will immediately feel at home when you enter as you are warmly welcomed by Ben, the owner, and Ernie, his four-legged greeter and bar's namesake. read more

Don't let the outside fool you, we did for a while and now we regret it. We should have been coming here earlier. We visit family here yearly. The bar is not large but is warm and inviting. They have a very well curated wine and beer selection along with liquor so you can get whatever you want. We happened in when the proprietor's daughters were tending the bar. Ben, the proprietor, (Ernie was the dog) was apparently out recovering from illness. The daughters were so nice and friendly and helpful. We thought we would only stay for a glass, but ended up having a whole bottle and a wonderful evening with the staff and the other patrons.
