We went to Twisted Willow on a Saturday evening for supper to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and overall, we had a good experience. The food was definitely the highlight. I especially recommend the Thai Peanut Shrimp--it was incredibly flavorful and came with a generous amount of shrimp. The Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer was another standout. It was served hot and fresh with a light, crispy breading and a delicious dipping sauce. So good! We also had cocktails, which were just okay for me. They tasted a little watered down and weren't as spirit-forward as I prefer. I also thought the décor felt a little tired and didn't quite match the more interesting menu. Since moving to Grafton, we've heard good things about Twisted Willow in Port Washington, and last night, we decided give dine there. The wife ordered Short Rib and I ordered Walleye. We both had French Onion Soup (three stars) and for desert, we ordered the Flourless chocolate cake. (3 stars) I was happy very happy with the Walleye dinner (Five Stars) Fresh and cooked just right. The roasted vegetables were excellent. We were not happy with the Short rib with mashed potatoes. The Short rib was dry and lacked flavor. It tasted like overcooked pot roast. Mashed potatoes were not much better. (2 1/2 stars at best). A very nice venue/restaurant both inside and out. Great location. Our server was just okay. She seemed to be just "going through the motions" and was not very engaging. (3 Stars). I think that the Twisted Willow is probably a good restaurant with quality food. Perhaps we just came in on a bad night for Short Rib and engaging service. We will most likely give them another try. read more

We had a reservation for our anniversary and had a great time. The restaurant space has large windows that let in lots of natural light and brighten up the space and the staff is very friendly. Let me start by saying my food was very very good! I got the chorizo pasta dish. Super fresh and great flavor. Now let me discuss the service. It was very poor. We showed up 5 minutes before reservation and was told we needed to wait because our table was not set. We got there at 6 so it was their first reservations of the night, not like we were waiting for a table to be cleared. We finally got seated and after the waitress gave us our menus we did not have her come back for at least 20-30 minutes to take our orders. We asked if the ribs were a half or full rack because it didn't say on the menu and she didn't know so we had to wait for her to find out. Turns out it was "16-18oz" and we couldn't get an answer of half or full rack lol. My wife ordered stroganoff with adding sirloin and the sirloin was cooked like a hockey puck. Super hard and barely any flavor. The espresso martinis were pretty good but they didn't put in 3 beans on top, which makes it not professional. Their tequila selection also was poor so I couldn't order tequila drinks. We barely saw our waitress which stunk because it would have been a way better experience if we felt welcomed there. Also, when we left the whole staff was standing and talking by the exit door and it made us feel like we weren't welcome. Yeah the food was alright, but the staff really made experience poor. From the hostess, to the waitress to the staff sanding by the door while we're leaving it was a really bad experience. Luckily there is just as tasty restaurants in the area that we can eat at where we won't feel like we're missing out by not going there. read more

The dining rooms are idyllic, not overcrowded, and quiet enough to have a conversation without screaming. The French onion soup was amazing but the chicken sandwich was terrible- dry chicken, dry bacon, the bun fell apart, the tomato and lettuce were tasteless, and they need to put more mustard in the dijon. Service was subpar at best, I was a party of one which meant that I was last on the list of importance. Great atmosphere, good soup, (mmm, good soup), but an underwhelming meal. I appreciate that they had a full kids menu, though I'm pretty sure my 9 year old boy could have eaten an adult sized burger. I liked how they encouraged kids to draw on the white paper part of the table and provided high end crayons. The ambiance was nice; it was quiet enough to have a conversation without screaming, but when the kids were a bit loud, it's not like everyone could hear. Food was decent but the service really brought the rating down to 3 stars. Our server clearly didn't want to be there. It's almost like FOH is trained to not make eye contact. Having food service experience myself, I find that FOH should be assigned tables (to wait on for food, bring the bill, be the point of contact), but everyone should help everyone; customers should not feel obligated to wait for their server for a utensil or water if they haven't seen their server. A bit over priced food wise, but glad we tried something new. read more

Everything went well for a last day of summer visit to Twisted Willow. Spoke with Candy the owner and set us up for a nice reservation. Seated quickly and friendly by our hostess on a Saturday evening. Wendy, our waitress was top-notch and attended to all our needs. I ordered the scallops off the specials menu and my better half ordered the pork shank off the regular menu. Both were perfect. The menu was loaded with helpful information re: gluten free options and overall the selections were wonderful. We saw the various dessert options pass by to other tables.... The food is DELICIOUS and they make it so easy to order gluten free (make sure you tell your server you are gluten free as some meals are naturally gluten free but some need to be altered to become gluten free) The inside has a speak easy vibe, cozy, and very fun atmosphere. My husband surprised me with a trip to escape the Las Vegas summer heat- we enjoyed our anniversary dinner at this quaint restaurant, nestled in downtown Port Washington WI. We started the meal with, strawberry and ricotta bruschetta- the creamy ricotta was made in house, topped with ripe, deep red strawberries picked locally, finished with a drizzle of balsamic and sprinkled with basil on a crust salty toast point. This dish was so amazing, I could've consumed another order and went home happy! We went on to order the miso glazed salmon and ribs: My salmon filet was seared with a crunchy outer crust, side of white rice and beans, chopped broccoli, the miso sauce tasted more likes teriyaki sauce, very sweet. My husband started with a bowl of onion soup which had a layer of cheese over a sweet and slightly salty soup. The ribs were coated in a sweet sauce, so tender they fell right off the bone. We have gone here for years and even asked them to cater my wedding. My husband is from Wisconsin and we visit semi-annually. I dined on back to back days - for my anniversary dinner and to take a party of six with after. Anniversary night was fantastic. Food was amazing and so was service as it always has been. Second night was terrible.The place wasn't even busy. We literally had to ask for drinks and menus. No refills were given. We never got our drinks. Food was sub-par compared to the previous night. Our waitress was snappy and rude. We had to wait twenty minutes to pay our bill despite asking for help. Despite this I tipped 10% and left. Not five minutes later the GM calls and asks: Can you tell me why you only tipped 10%? I reply nicely letting her know of our situation. We spent 250+ over two meals there and this was a bad experience. We still tipped as a courtesy. We then were told to "bring it up instead of keep it to ourselves next time so that they can fix it before we tip." I was then hung up on before I could get a word in, given an insincere "I'm sorry that you had bad service. Bye." I worked in this industry as a shift lead. I would have apologized and comped the first time the issue was brought to me. I never would have called 7-year customers after they left and berated them for not a high enough tip. I am sad and out hundreds of dollars. I don't know that we will ever return. read more

We stopped here on a whim because another place recommended to me had no parking and ny daughter was hungry. It looked very uppity so I was surprised that they had a kid's menu but when we sat down it was very quaint and comfortable. The service was good too. The hostess was nice. Our server was friendly however I noticed he was more attentive to bigger families and those who were dressed classier. We were in sweats I believe. Lol. I still left him a 20% tip but knowing from experience one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The food was delicious and my steak was melt in the mouth good. My daughter's food even looked good and she loved her French fries. They had a dirt cake that she liked and she enjoyed coloring on the "tablecloth". Golf brings my group to this area every 2 years and we tried Twisted Willow on the last trip but there were no reservations available. We were excited to give it a try this year. Ambiance was excellent in this very historic and architecturally unique establishment. The dining rooms are spaciously organized and well appointed. The waitstaff was attentive, but only had limited knowledge of the menu and specials. The full bar offered traditional and specialty drinks with a few local beers on tap. Unfortunately two of the more promising beer selections ran out after one pour. Appetizers hut the mark and earned a star. Artichoke dip was excellent and the crab cake bites were unique albeit a very conservative portion. Entrees were regrettably underwhelming, especially at this price point. Nearly everyone was reaching for salt after sampling. The chicken sandwich and burger were very pedestrian with dry/over cooked proteins, generic vegetables and dry buns. Several in our party opted for the fish special, served on a potato patty with micro-greens. Only one member of our party opted for dessert and they reported it was very good. read more

I was really looking forward to my first visit to the Twisted Willow based on posted reviews. Our greeting by the hostess was cordial and the service was very good. Its a limited menu which indicated that they did few things very good. Sorry to say that our meals were a huge disappointment. My choice, the special of the day, Spaghetti and Meatballs was tasteless. I selected the special because I saw so many orders coming out of the kitchen and figured everyone knew something I did not. The meatball were hard with no flavor. The pasta was cooked perfectly but the sauce had a strange and unpleasant flavor. Its hard to screw up spaghetti and meatballs but the Twisted Willow succeeded. My dinner companion had the shrimp scampi and left half of it on his plate for the same reasons. All in all, a very dissatisfying and discouraging meal. If any aspect of the meal warranted a return visit for another try, we would do it in a heartbeat, but nothing indicated a return trip would be worth it.
