Great staff working here. I was in need of new lederhosen for my trip to Munch next month. In the past I ordered mine online and you never know what you are getting. I was searching for a place where I could go look at them in person and actually try them on. Ernst Licht was the only place I saw listed in PA. I called in advance to make sure they were open the hours their website said and that the inventory on the website was actually in stock at the store. Yes and yes to both my questions. I then made the four hour trip, each way to the store. The building is huge and located in a nice little town of well maintained homes and businesses. The actual area for the German clothing isn't huge, but is well stocked. The store was busy to my surprise with other folks getting their clothing for Octoberfest. The gentleman I spoke in the phone with two days prior was the same person that helped me in the store. Very friendly and accommodating person. I was able to get a few things and left very satisfied. My friend and I attended Oktoberfest this past September in Munich and we worried about finding outfits that we both liked while abroad, so we took the drive up to Oley from Philadelphia to be able to try on dirndls before our departure. The two ladies that were working were amazingly helpful in helping us find the right size, teaching us how to put them on and tie the aprons correctly-- I'm so glad that we did this at home and we're actually able to enjoy our experience versus being rushed at the festival. My friends dirndl needed small alterations and they were able to help with that as well, which was fantastic. We got so many compliments on our dirndls while in Munich, and some people even mistook us for Germans because our dresses were authentic versus something from Amazon. The dirndls were so beautiful and wonderfully made that you really didn't want to take them off because they were so pretty. I have recommended Ernst Licht to all of my PA and NJ friends within driving distance and also posted them in a couple travel groups where ladies are looking for authentic German attire to wear to local and international festivals. read more

Great place to go for getting custom embroidery done. They can do all kinds of things. I've had hats, shirts, and jackets done. Quality is always top-notch. Their prices are very competitive with mail-order/internet shops and they have the added advantage that you can go and see the stuff in-person. The left side of the store is the Import Shop and I will admit I've not ever been inside there. I am told that it is THE place to go if you need lederhosen. Not that I ever have... but if I ever do, that's where I'll be going. read more

Great service. I ordered a hat for my husband for Christmas. He loved the hat, but, although I ordered his usual size, it was too big. So, even though they were closed until January, I called and texted the day after Christmas.. Imagine how surprised I was when I got a call back immediately. The lady, I think her name was Cheryl, was so helpful and friendly. She waived the return mailing fees and said she personally would be looking for the return. Today, we received the new hat. My family and I traveled an hour and a half just to make our first trip to Ernst Licht. We have a 1 and 3 year old and Kelly couldn't be more accommodating. We left with lederhosen for my 3 year old son and I...and dirndl's for my wife and 1 year old daughter. We couldn't be happier with our experience. Kelly took the time and care to teach us about the history and tradition of the garments and made sure we were happy with what we were purchasing. I'm a long time customer and have gone here for both embroidery and tracht (so have my parents and grandparents), and this place is truly the best--the customer service is top-notch, I have the option to get the highest quality products, and the prices are fantastic. It has been great to see the business evolve over the years: they finally got a new website (the old one was VERY 90's), customer service keeps getting better, and they now have a stock of more affordable tracht (like $100 vs. $500). I love going here for Christmas shopping (they are always getting the coolest things from Germany!), and it is so fun to go into a store where the employees remember your face. Also, I hear they are in the process of opening another store in Solvang, CA (a little dutch-themed village)--I can't wait to visit! read more

In preparing for our trip to Germany, I wanted to buy my daughter a dirndl and my son a felt hat. We found a wonderful selection online at Ernst Licht. After placing my order, they were in touch with me right away giving advice on sizing and selection. Her dirndle arrived quickly and is beautiful- wonderful craftsmanship and fits perfectly! I had ordered the worng size hat for my son (bad measuring on my part) and returned it to them and got a larger replacement hat right away with a nice note. Since my experience with this company was so great, I immediately went to them to find some hat pins that I was unable to find while in Germany for my son's hat and, sure enough, they had just what I was looking for. Recently purchased hat pins for a graduation present, they represented the different places in Germany the graduate had been. One pin was a lion and shield of Bayern. This pin was substituted with a lion and octoberfest shield. A call was placed after looking up on line to find we had ordered the correct pin according to the invoice and picture but it was sent wrong. They said they had not updated there page online, the pin we requested was no longer available, we could send it back at our expense and exchange it. Please included a Credit card number. Since the pin octoberfest meant nothing to the graduate, who was not in Germany during octoberfest we sent it back to exchange it for a pin two dollars more (which was another place the graduate had been). At our expense we sent it back - for there mistake and we were charged two dollars against our Credit card. Any business that wants repeat business would have given a courtesy discount and accepted a mistake was made. Poor business relations. I've been in business a long time, managed business along time and it's the little things that keep people coming back. When it doesn't cost your business to hit your profit margin on occasion (not on a continual basis) to show a mistake was made on the business part, that they accept that, and to say we respect you selected our business. All I can say is wow, two dollars after I had completely paid for the original pin in good faith upfront, never told it was not available. Rate this company poor, shop at your own risk. May have nice product, poor customer service. read more
