We had the 24/7 roadside assistance in our package. We got the low air tire light an hour into our drive on our trip. And we went to a Costco Fullerton to add air only to find out that the tire was flat. Called for service at 920 pm for flat and only got the voice service. Left a message and received a text response at 1026 PM. Danielle responded when we called back. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to get any service in Fullerton until the following morning. Additionally, we couldn't settle into Costco since the security asked us to leave so luckily we were able to park at Walmart just down the street. This will be important to assessing the tired. Side note, Danielle was an awesome assistant. Caring, compassionate and helpful in her following up. We were able to get our tires changed at around at 730 in the morning. Unfortunately, AAA wouldn't take the business card over the phone with the company road side assistance so we had to front the payment. We were told we would be reimbursed. Once the tire was changed, we noticed it wasn't a full size tire but an old spare with rusted rims. We knew we couldn't get to Phoenix on it so we took it back. We asked the AAA mechanic what he thought the issue was and he says it could be just defective since the tire looks new. When we got to the office, we mentioned the situation and Shelby was the least empathetic or helpful person. Given that we didn't even leave town an hour away, and we know we didn't hit anything to cause any issue with the tire, we asked if we could work an extra day for our troubles of losing a day. Shelby was super combative at that point and said it doesn't. After making the case again, she said she'll ask home office. She came back and said, if there's no nails, or other issues, then we can get the additional day, otherwise, it would be an additional change. Seems fair since we knew we didn't hit anything. So when they assessed the tire, she then made the claim that we hit something. I attached the picture of the tire. The claim was we hit something on the left Firestone logo on the left side of the picture. There's no scuff marks there. We do show ware with a rim but, that's because we went to a location to fill the tire (to Costco) which we though was just low air (not flat), and we had to move to Walmart. Our next car that we got was great and worked well. It got a two stars because our lady that serviced us was not remotely empathetic but the van worked well. If you get nocturnal van (our first van) I would also check the Bluetooth since it never worked for us. Also note, the insurance coverage is a waste of money. We needed the tire changed and we also had to pay for the AAA out of pocket.

Since I wrote this I had a call with Javier and he was really cool. This place was awesome aNd I loved my van. Must read for anyone considering a road trip or a few nights stay in one of the escape vans. The van was beautiful and the people in the office were pretty cool. I was really stoked to start my month long (maybe longer trip!). I was told if I needed to add day just call and that if it I was more than 7 days late they would report it stolen. That sounds reasonable! The price 2600$ as long as I drove less than 100 miles per day, no break for a long trip, but hey, I loved the mural and it's cheaper than a hotel! Slight inconveniences with the van but all in all it had lots of power and was a fun adventure. Then it gets crazy. I called because I had finally gotten home (September 14th, yesterday) to ask when it I was due. The person on the phone said it was due today! I said dang, I can't make it, I'll come tomorrow, she said ok I'm going to charge you for an extra day (I later find out this includes a huge late fee). So in waiting for my mom to drop off my beautiful cat Nix, haven't seen him for over a month and I get a call from a number I've never seen, I answer and can tell it's the escape van people, I tell her I'm waiting for my cat and I'll head over, it's about 80-90 mile drive. I get my cat Nix situated and then get in the freeway, then my phone rings, I go to look at it and it falls into one of the vans many deep crevices! I get what then sounds like an orchestra mixed with a construction site because of the phone ringing and vibrating. Do my best to reach it but eventually have to pull over because it felt dangerous and I hit my head in the process. I look at the phone and it's the lady from escape with no voice mail or text messages. She called me 20-something times with NO voicemail. That's a little crazy. So now I'm kind of dreading seeing this lady so I drive a little slower so I can get there at 429, but I'm nit really stressing because the paperwork says after hour drop off is ok. I am there at 429 and I can't find anyone since they must've closed early. A parking lot FILLED with vans so I get it, business must be slow. I look for the returning van slot or a mailbox for keys, I see NOTHInG. So I go to call that number, but considering she went nutty and called 20 times with no voicemail or text I thought I'll check the website! They'll have info there! I go to the website, it's the 15th, by the way and I am not kidding. This chat person says there's no late drop offs, totally going against the paperwork I was given. Then she says return tomorrow or I call the police and accused me of trying to avoid payment. Also, I should note she kept saying the van was 3 days late. And that my card was declining. This was starting to concern me because the van wasn't late, since I called, but if anything it was 1 day late and how much was she trying to charge me???!! I get the impression they are sharks trying to take advantage of the type of good natured person attracted to their type of mural covered vans. To act the way she did, was very unprofessional, but I'll pray for her and be patient because this must be a bad time for her business and all those vans is a lot of overhead. .

First of all, yes, there were issues, yes the van was old, yes, the mileage on the Maverick was high, yes, the steering was loose, the bearings on the wheels were noisy, the sink stopped working on day two, the brakes (although good) squealed. I was going on a trip to the desert, a meeting at Skoolipalooza and basically bumming it around Southern CA, reliving the travels of my youth, my backpacking and hitch-hiking years, it was a reliving trip! I did NOT expect the comforts of a hotel, nor did I want them. I did not expect a new or even newer van, nor did I care! I wanted something that would enable me to go into remote places, dirt roads (to an extent), BLM land, river banks and lakeside views... If I was driving an RV, I wouldn't get access to any of that and I would've paid 5 times what I paid to Escape Campervans. I rented a "campervan", no frills but comfortable. The sink stopped working, I dealt with it as I dealt with the issues of the van - it was the perfect vehicle for my needs. The CS was great, Katia made the pickup seamless and fast, she even gave me some used gas bottles at no charge. The return was equally as good from the young lady that received the van. I pointed out the issues, she noted them and took the van (Riva) out of service until the issues were fixed, and I took her word that they would be. No compensation was offered nor did I ask for one. The point I am trying to make is: This is a campervan rental company, not a car rental company. The vans are lived in, you do not live in your rented car! The mileage is high, yes, but you don't remove a campervan from the fleet at 30,000 miles like car rental companies do! The vans get used - a lot! If you were on a trip to Yosemite, you wouldn't expect to stay in a 5 star hotel with your backpack and sleeping bag. These vehicles are for backpacking on wheels so expect to get a backpackers use out of them. If you want the Hilton, stay in a Hilton. If you want freedom of movement, access to remote area's and a backpackers experience, then this is the company for you, just don't expect the bells and whistles and then complain. I plan on another trip in the fall and I will rent again and accept Escape campervans for what they are, a no frills, bare basics, campervan rental company.

Rented a Mavericks camper van from Escape Los Angeles for a road trip to Arizona and back. Our van was "Carhenge". Overall we were happy with the experience and would rent again but there are some things to know going in. The Mavericks van is a full-size Ford van with a convertible table to queen bed, propane camp stove, sink (fill with your own water), and refrigerated drawer. The bed is comfortable and easy enough to put up and down but we kept it made the whole time as we didn't need the table. Fridge drawer was really cold and held more than it looked. The van was tough to drive in strong wind on the freeway and snow/ice, be cautious if you're going to encounter this weather. Very bumpy on the road too. Otherwise easy enough to drive. Bring your own: -Bedding and pillows, or rent from them -Propane, or buy from them -Lighter for the stove -Car charger for your phone and Aux cord + relevant adapter to play your phone through the stereo -Cooking/eating supplies, or rent from them There were some quirks/issues, like the passenger blind spot mirror wouldn't stay in place and one of the power ports in the dash didn't work. Also the air would quit whenever we accelerated uphill. Gas mileage was not as advertised but luckily Arizona has cheap gas! Not dealbreakers but could have been in better shape. GET THE INSURANCE! Our van got a flat tire. Luckily we were in a populated area and had bought the "no worries on the van" insurance so Escape roadside team arranged for a tow and new tire at no cost to us, but it was a 3 hour time sink. These are old vans with 200k+ miles and are driven constantly, so expect possible issues. Last thing to note is that they only offer 100 miles/day. Over that you'll pay 30c per mile so be prepared for that at the end.

My experience with escape was mostly a good one. At first I was a little upset I couldn't use the voucher I purchased on the trip for the weekend, $99 down the drain (I get it can't be combined with other offers, but you didn't need a code or anything for a cheap rate the weekend I wanted so I assumed it was standard price) anyway, I went ahead and booked the van and added a solar shower and ice scraper to my package which were both not put in our van before departure (refunded but we now had to make arrangements for showers elsewhere) The van was nice, it ran well and was well over 200k miles. We had no issue with its performance. But I did have an issue with the cleanliness of the provided kitchen utensils. They were super dirty and pretty gross. We had to wash them with whatever we could find on the campground. Other than that, and the forgotten items, escape was a great experience.

We rented a Mavericks van for 8 days. There were four of us and it was PERFECT! We picked up in San Francisco and dropped off in LAX. We took the van to Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and back onto the Pacific Coast Highway. We added a rooftop sleeper, kitchen kit, bedding kit, camping chairs, and picnic table. The kitchen kit was great because it included pots, pans, utensils, dish towels, a scrubber, and other things for cleaning. The bedding kit is a necessity! It includes pillows, blankets, etc. which were needed since we flew and couldn't bring all of that. We slept comfortably inside and on top of the van. Adding camping chairs ended up being a great last-minute add. We used those chairs all week when eating, watching the sunset, and sitting by the fire. The van already comes with a stovetop, sink, and small fridge. We ended up buying a large cooler, propane tanks, and a new pot and pan. We were able to cook pasta, chicken, eggs, bacon, and make sandwiches each day. Inside the van is a table that you can attach which was great for cold nights where we could sit inside and play cards. Overall, the van was amazing and I can't wait for our next trip with Escape Campervans! It was reasonably priced (the four of us each paid $330 for the 8-day rental), we traveled and slept comfortably, and had a great time. Thanks!

I do Groupon a lot and saw this was a deal. I wanted to purchase it for my birthday but it eventually expired. I did see it was offering a weekend special- $33 a day for 3 days. My boyfriend and I were staying in LA and driving to the Grand Canyon, making our way to Phoenix. We both have never been to Arizona before and we thought this would be an amazing experience! The weeeknd package also came with electric package, bedding, and chairs. The deal included 400 miles and any additional mile would cost 25 cents. (We went over 700 miles- I was hoping that they would let me change my package to the other deal, which was $17.99 for more miles but the lady said no- it had to be set at departure.) I spent an extra $150 on miles. To use a different drop off location was another $150 and all the gas we put in was close to, if not more than $150. Pretty pricy little trip, but it was an experience! Bed was very uncomfortable (I don't camp much- this was my first camping experience). I think this would have been much more enjoyable for me and my wallet if we would have stayed within our 400 miles and dropped off at same location but you only have one life, might as well take chances!! The lady was very nice when dropping off- we filled up right beFore dropping it off- a block away. The gas gauge must have not filled all the way- because she put it at 7/8 refilled and I almost had to pay the extra amount. Which was bogus because I just filled up! My boyfriend reminded me that one of our propane tanks did not work, so instead of refunding us for that and making me pay for the gas, called it even. It still wasn't fair for me, because I legit did pay for the gas- which was not cheap. Prob won't do this again, unless like I stated before- we were doing the weekend deal and staying within our 400 miles.

This is a great way to go if you want to avoid the high costs and awkwardness of large rental RVs and other campers. For 10 days, we paid a little over $1,000 with unlimited mileage. This is a great bargain considering how much you'd spend for hotels and dining out during the same time. They provide a wildly painted, full-size van with all the amenities for for camping and touring. The van we were provided offered a full-size bed with duvet and blanket plus all the things you need for camping: a stove, sink, refrigerator, utensils and other amenities. There's an AUX input on the radio so you can plug in your smart phone or mp3 player and play tunes. The van is powerful and easily maneuverable. The accessories they provide are well thought-out. The refrigerator cools while the van is running, and there are extension cords and connections to provide power if you use a hook-up campsite. Curtains are added to provide privacy. They provide a Coleman stove, with propane tanks, for cooking, and all the basic utensils and accessories. The fold-down bed we used (in the van model called "the Deep," was extremely comfortable. It has a small water tank connected to a sink into iwhich you can pump water; my only criticism is that the sink drains right onto the ground and splashes onto your feet; they need to provide a bucket to catch the gray water. Everyone there was helpful and the signup process was hassle-free. I can highly recommend this as an alternative for couples of two. Go for the unlimted mileage package if you expect to log 1,000 mile or more.

We were really disappointed with the customer service and the quality of van. Its an older van and the equipment is very old (do not rent the extra stuff as its not good quality) Bring your own! The van was old and we had troubles with the tire pressure, the water not working and than an engine light. We ended up turning it in early because of the engine problem. Customer service is really bad, they could care less and tried to charge extra for dropping off early since they weren't open past 4:30pm? Hello the vehicle engine light is on! Anyways I think it would be best to rent from a regular car company. This has cool paint on the outside but the inside is really very disappointing. read more

This is my third escape camper van trip and I anticipate more in the future. We just completed an 1100 mile trip from Vegas to The Mojave Desert, San Diego, Lake Havasu and then back to Vegas. I traveled with two 13 year olds and we all had a great time, in spite of the 110* weather most days. Instead of renting a ground tent from the company for $30, we bought a 3 person tent from Walmart for $27 and 2 $10 sleeping bags there also. (We gave them to the maid at our hotel at the end of our trip as we had to fly back to Seattle). Despite the heat I slept well (we bought an 11" flat fan, battery powered at Walmart that was a Godsend in this hot country) and the bedding kit was near new and comfortable. The vans are not new so have the expectation that there maybe some minor issues, an inside vent grill missing and an inside ceiling light cover missing but nothing that detracted from our trip. The refrigerator is small and worked hard to keep things cold in this hot weather trip. Milk curdled after 4 days even in the frig. We cooked breakfast and dinner nearly every day for 7 days and used 1.5 canisters of propane. The kitchen kit was the basics but served us well. We were always at campsites with running water so never used the sink and gray water system as it didn't add that much to our convenience versus having to fill it and drain it later. read more

BEST VACATION EVER thanks to Escape Campervans. Traveled for two weeks in January 2014 and got a very good price for our rental as it was off season. They were very accommodating with our times and requests. However, I can see how people have had bad customer service experiences depending on who they get. We were lucky enough to work with Raphael who was awesome. We had the Maverick. Van was new, clean, ran well, better on gas than expected (mostly highway miles), and very roomy. Refrigerator and rear light ran off its own battery which was smart because it lasted like 3 days without the car being started (didn't test this) and if you needed a jump in the middle of nowhere you could use that battery! Bed was very comfortable and in 35 deg weather we were very warm. We lived completely out of the van the whole two weeks. No campgrounds, cooked in the back, and saved a lot of money. I was a little hesitate about the loud paint jobs but they were beautiful and we were constantly getting complements (no one realized it was a rental!). We saw a couple other campervan rentals in our travels and none of them compared to the van we had. Most were smaller and didn't look as comfortable. Tips: - If you rent the bike racks, they are on the roof and virtually impossible to reach without getting on the roof which they ask you not to do. We kept the bed down the whole trip and moved our bikes from the bed to the front seats everyday. Slightly annoying when you're tired but much less annoying than trying to use those bike racks. - If you plan on to travel off the beaten path (which happens all too easily as soon as you leave the cities), you will NEED a vehicle with high clearance. This is the only campervan company that we saw that could handle those roads. - Finding a place to sleep in the cities was hard. No street sleeping. No Walmart parking lots. Few very campgrounds. I believe all Forest roads are legal to sleep on if you pull off into an obvious rest stop (more common in AZ which we traveled to). Again, will need a high clearance vehicle. - If you plan to sleep in the van every night, the only thing you'll be missing is a bathroom, which I'm sure you can figure out, and a SHOWER!! My boyfriend had a great idea to use our gym membership for showering (LA Fitness). Just wanted to pass that along. I highly recommend using Escape Campervans. If you are not from the west coast (which we weren't) be understanding that it is much more laid back out there and things do not happen instantly and you will most likely avoid having a 1-star experience. Be patient and have a good time! We will DEFINITELY be renting an Escape Campervan next year for vacation. THANKS ESCAPE! read more

We've had a great experience renting our van from Escape! It's the perfect middle ground for traveling between a full RV and a standard Van at an unbeatable price. It comes with everything you could need on the road, in an efficient and affordable package. The customer service experience we received was top of the line. If you're renting from Los Angeles, know that you'll be in good hands with Matt. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. He was friendly and was reliable whenever we needed to contact him. Also, if your traveling for a long time Id recommend the maverick model for its spacious back section and extra room. It's easier to cook in (we cooked almost every day) and had our van for a month. read more

This company gets it. The vans are smart and fun. The prices are clear and fair. The people who work at the LA office are cool and helpful. We took the mavericks van camping in the Mojave and Joshua tree with two young kids and had a blast. My son loved the pop up sleeper. The kitchen is simple and functional, the solar fridge and light are genius. We had a great experience and will rent from them again. At least 10 of our friends have rented Escape vans for trips and have only had positive experiences with the vans and the company. read more

Two friends and I took a trip to Colorado this past May and we rented from the Denver branch! We took it to Colorado Springs (up Pikes Peak, to the Manitou Incline) and Boulder. We enjoyed the CamperVan experience and those who helped us at the Denver branch office were kind! Sadly, Boulder got a strong snow storm during our trip, but we still made the best of it!! However, one night our van was struck with a large tree limb from the dead tree above us at our (given) van spot at our lodge. It shattered our whole side window and made the roof curve in. We were inside it at the time but we were not injured at all! Once we had cell signal to contact Escape... they were NOT helpful at all. We did not get their insurance because we had our own full coverage. Their roadside or emergency assistance line was rude and would not allow us to speak to a real human... all they did was text us and tell us to either drive it back to Denver (with glass and tree limbs all over), call SafeLite to come repair it, go to a grocery store to patch the window up ourselves, and then get it towed. The texts said we could get another van but would have to pay upfront full price for a new van and for the remaining days we would use it along with the extras we got with the first van. Their options were not feasible and once we got to speak to a human they were rude and said they wouldn't do a thing to help us. The experience with Escape was good up until we had a natural accident occur which then they were not helpful for. read more

I'm typically not the camping person but we just spent 9 days traveling around Southern California in a Escape Camper and loved it. I was concerned about the comfort of the bed because of my bad lower back but I found the bed to be very comfortable. I would give 5 stars if our van was a bit newer but overall it was an amazing experience that we hope to do again. read more

Thank you all so much for my Holiday trip last week. I want to especially thank Austin at the Los Angeles location. If it wasn't for him and his amazing customer service I would not make a future rental. After having van mechanical issues causing me to lose two days of my trip, and having to forgo all my previous plans he tried his best to make it up and make sure I could salvage some of my Thanksgiving campervan vacation. Hopefully the next time I book it will be smoother sailing, but even if it's not it's nice to know Austin is willing to make it right. read more

Such a bummer! Phil just pulled the rug out from underneath me and my friends who were traveling in support of the Water Protectors by cancelling our trip three days before we are to leave. For being such a forward environmental company they cancelled our trip the second I mentioned North Dakota. Bad customer service, bad energy, and no consideration for our commitment to going. Do not give this company your business because they don't actually live by the credo they preach. Big huge let down. read more

This company completely misrepresented themselves and make false advertisements on their website! Beware not to waste your time or money unless you are planning on traveling no further than 300 or fewer miles!!! They will make reservations and then cancel if they can get more money from Europeans who plan on staying within their recommended distances...yet they are not forthcoming with their travel policies! Here is why... My husband and I have been planning a cross country trip for a while now. We decided to make the trip by renting a camper van as we love to camp. I booked the van for two weeks and the accepted my reservation and the deposit to hold such van. My husband and I decided to extend our trip, if it were possible, so I called the Escape Campervan company to find out. I was able to reach a gentleman who informed me that I would need to respond to the email confirming our reservation and the man handling the emails would get back to me. I did not hear back from the company for two days so I decided to call back. The man who 's job it was to reply to the email happened to answer the phone, then put me on hold to speak with his manager. Then a completely different person answered the phone and informed me that they did not want us taking the van across the country even though their website offers unlimited miles for $19, which I reserved. They said that they could not extend our reservation dates, which was understandable, however they stated that they had other people wanting to rent, whom would be taking local trips around the State of California. They took my deposit and then canceled because they could book more trips with the one van in the time that we would have been renting it. they stated that they did not want "that many miles" on their vans! they advertise cross country trips and quote : "Escape Campervan travel in the USA is quite simply the most affordable and fun way to experience the scenery, activities and culture that America offers." The Escape Campervans company advertises: No maximum rental period! "Minimum and Maximum Rental Period : There is no maximum rental period. Our website quotes a minimum 3 day rental. The longer you rent for, the cheaper it gets. The discount is built into the quote automatically. Mileage: You have 3 options when you book your trip. 1) Stay with our standard mileage included with the rental of 100 miles/day (This is averaged over your trip) The cost of additional miles is 25 cents per mile. 2) Purchase an additional 100 miles for $15/Day (giving you a total of 200 miles/day) The cost of additional miles is 25 cents per mile for mileage greater than 200 miles per day averaged over your trip. 3) You can purchase unlimited miles at the start of your trip for only $19 per day. My husband is in the Navy serving his country and making sure that our freedoms are protected and this company takes advantage of the meaning of the word America! You are free to see the America that they want however they are not going to tell you this until you book your trip and show up with "too many miles" under their "unlimited mileage" policy costing $19. My husband and I thought that this would be a great way to see the sites and drive across country with our baby and have a great vacation. Now two weeks before we had planned to leave we have to now find other accommodations. We have not been on vacation in a long time because my husband deploys often. So if you planning to use this company, plan on making the trip short and beware of their false promises and if they can't honor their reservations that cost $200 I would beware of company coming through when the van breaks down or you drive further than they wanted!! They were rude and unprofessional!! If they continue to make false advertisements and treat their consumers this way, they are very unlikely to become a fortune 500 company to say the least!!! read more

I use to LOVE this place. I've been renting from them for YEARS now. Every Coachella, and this last time we rented it's for a family camping trip up north. The Day before we were suppose to leave, my uncle tragically passed away. Of course all plans were canceled. When we tried to call and cancel with Escape they told us there was nothing that they could do, and wouldn't give us our deposit back. I totally understand if this was a cancellation for the sake of it or for a different reason but MY UNCLE PASSED AWAY! How does this company show no empathy, especially to people who've rented out their cans for the past couple years. Honestly, this breaks my heart, that was money that would of helped us towards something else and not its gone. So disappointed. read more

Showed up around 11am to pick up, they put us in a van that looked a bit old and beat up. They assured me it was good to go, I drove down the street and the curtain broke so I turned around and went back and explained how much driving we were doing and if we could get a newer van. They were super nice and understanding and put us in a brand new van that hadn't even been rented yet. The van was awesome, pretty good on gas, the bed was surprisingly comfortable the fridge kept everything cold, we went to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Zion, Tahoe, San Fran, Yosemite. I would absolutely rent again and recommend these guys to anyone. read more

I just read all the reviews and it seems to me that the people who had bad experiences had strange circumstances. I had several snags and all were professionally addressed to MY satisfaction. Let me elucidate: First, I purchased the Groupon deal for 7 days. I paid for it as soon as I bought it. Then my plans fell apart. Things came up and I wasn't going to be able to use the Groupon before it expired. I called and spoke with Phil. He asked me to email him the changes (which were well past the expiration of the Groupon), so I did. A while later I get an email back. "No problem." So we set another date and again, boom, big trouble in my world. I email again. Again the reply, "No problem." He did say on the phone that as long as it wasn't a super-busy time, he could accommodate me. I hate traveling during tourist season so I knew this would work out fine and it did. So I finally pick up the van and everything goes perfectly. The lady who helped me showed me the mileage options but I didn't expect to go very much over the given amount so I turned it down. My girlfriend didn't want a garish paint job (aliens, cartoon characters or the like) and I requested that in the reservation. The reply? "No problem." When I showed up they had the Japanese Cherry Blossom van reserved for me. Perfect! The GF loved it. I drove it about 5 miles and boy, this baby needed work. As I've been a shade-tree mechanic my whole life, my best guess was that it needed shocks and ball joints. Possibly a steering rack. It had 180,000 miles on it if I remember correctly. By the time I got it home (5 miles), I couldn't stand it. It shook horribly every time you hit anything as big as Botts Dot (the raised bumps they use for dotted lines) and I had to keep sawing the wheel back and forth to keep it in the lane. And when trucks passed, it would get blown out of the lane. I didn't think I could put up with a week of that so I called. They said "No problem, bring it back." When I returned, they gave me the psychedelic surfer van (I think it was number 321). Just over 100,000 miles on this baby. I got in and it drove like silk. Perfect! After the week was over, I came in and everybody was busy with customers. Someone stopped talking to a renter and asked if I was picking up or dropping off. I said returning. They said what's your name and I told them and they had the renter wait for 1 minute while they printed a receipt. I then asked if I could get a copy of their rental book as it has a lot of fantastic information on the national and state parks and camping in them, along with web sites I'd never seen before, and I've spent a lot of time researching camping in parks over the last few years. "No problem." I cannot recommend these guys highly enough and again say, if you had a bad experience, something weird was going on with your situation. One thing I do in those cases is thank them, hang up, then call back until I get someone else. However, if you're trying to get them to break their written policies, well then, good luck with that. Two final things. The first night we stayed in a campground with 2 other Escape CV's. I got tips from the others on how they did certain things. One couple told us they'd been gone a week and never change it from a bed to the bench seating with the table. So we did that and it worked fine. In all, we saw 15-20 Escapes CV's in the National Park we visited. Lastly, read the book. The guide they give you explains not only tips for many California national and state parks but how to work the features of the van and what to do in tricky driving situations and how to handle breakdowns. RTFM PEOPLE! Extra lastly: Here are two things I'd like to see them add to these vans. The first is incredibly important to me. That is a central locking option with alarm. It's a pain to operate the doors separately but more importantly, when I leave this baby in a parking lot with all my gear (though I covered it with a sleeping bag) I want to know if someone is breaking in. And I want everyone else around to know, too. The final item would be a tow chain. Due to the massive storms that blew up while we were out there, I was concerned I might end up in a ditch due to high wind or slippery conditions - and I was taking it easy. But if it had gone into a ditch, and these weren't deep enough to do any damage they'd just trap the van, then anyone with the proper vehicle would have been able to pull us out. I would expect there to be instructions on the best place to attach it and the proper way to do it, but it would save both of us a lot of headaches. As it was, we didn't have any trouble at all. Great company and that's what many others in their Escape CV's told us too. read more

This summer I took a 40 day road trip around the Pacific Northwest. After exploration with several options - trailer, winnebago, van - a camper van proved to be the most economical, convenient, simple, and cool! I made the reservation on-line and spoke to a couple people over the phone before the commencement of the trip - Matt who was so pleasant, helpful, and informative & Phil who was rude, curt, and very unpleasant. When calling to check up on details, I was told that his fellow employee told me incorrect information to "just get me off the phone." Suffice to say, he left an adverse impression of the company. Perhaps he was having a horrible day? Not sure, but leave that attitude at the door buddy! I picked up "playa" which was the Maverick option and was explained details about the van, proper handling instructions, so on and so forth. It was completely outfitted with everything - cutlery, pots, cutting board, blankets, pillows, atlas, chairs. She drove smoooooooth and cozy. I added a rooftop camper, which opens up like a clam and sleeps 2 people, so all together, the convertible van and the rooftop camper slept 5 comfortably. Gas mileage was excellent - 18-25 miles per gallon depending on elevation, type of driving. I prepared meals daily using the kitchen, stocked with fridge, 2 propane operated burners, sink with fresh water, and counter space. The fridge is powered by solar panels on the roof, which is amazing! Everything worked properly the entire trip and was fun. We filled and emptied grey water throughout various campsites and it was, also, easy breezy. The camper van was a gem - reliable, fun, easy. Saw a couple handfuls of other Escape camper vans on the voyage and everyone also reported happiness with their experiences. Another note, this van is an attraction grabber! I literally had dozens of people throughout the trip approach the van with questions and awe! Such a memorable experience and will continue to use and recommend Escape Campervans to anybody taking a road trip. I loved this beauty so much, I'm even thinking about investing in one :) read more

We had a great experience renting from Escape. Matt was really helpful and the pickup/ drop off was speedy and easy. (We rented a van from another camper company last year and it took forever picking it up and it seemed a little dirty). We rented Niagara. Pretty good experience- very clean and the kitchen was really easy to use (last year we didn't use the kitchen from the other company, it wasn't convenient to use, Escape has the design figured out.) The van definitely has a lot of miles and drives like a truck but we made it there and back in one piece! Definitely renting from them again next year and we will be asking for Matt again for more excellent customer service! read more

An amazing adventure in our Maverick "Smokey" took us up the coast to Morro Bay, Big Sur, Santa Cruz and Pismo Beach. Two adults, two kids and a weeks' worth of camping equipment fit comfortably in the van. We had the pop-up option, so no tent set up necessary. The kitchen set-up was sweet, with a stove, dishes, utensils, a little sink and a refrigerated drawer which worked surprisingly well. At night the bed set-up was very easy and the van was outfitted with clean sheets, blankets, pillows and comforters. I was lucky enough to score a Groupon for this rental during off-season, and Phil and Raphael were great about changing my dates to June for a small upcharge and adding the pop-up so my friend and her daughter could go. They handled several amendments to our order very graciously. When you go to pick up your van, allow for some time, as the office gets busy. There was a mix-up in the van we were supposed to leave with, which had no pop-up. Phil quickly got another van for us and we were on the road in no time. Tara (?) who outfitted our van and made sure it was in ship-shape was great about making sure we had four of everything we needed. All of the crew there were friendly and enthusiastic and helpful. This is a great way to camp easily, especially with kids. We saw so many Escape Campervans on the road and it felt like we were part of a community. Very fun and highly recommended! read more

The best vacation of my adult life. We left from LA, went to Sequoia, King's Canyon, Pinnacles, and down the PCH back to LA. If you're the outdoor type and a seasoned camper, this is the best way to explore the western US. The price was fair, the van was perfect, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen was more than enough. We will definitely be going back. read more

What a great experience I had from start to finish with Escape Campervans. Picked up my Big Sur van from The San Francisco branch on Friday. The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly. The van itself was clean and fresh smelling on pick up. Got great tips on how to get the most out of the vehicle and the trip. We went to Carmel for the weekend. The drive was smooth and the van itself made the trip SO MUCH better than camping. The little kitchen out the back made dinner times fun instead of laborious. The bed was easy to use and uber comfy and cosy. We are so pleased we used Escape (really affordable too) and would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to see the great American outdoors. Overall we had an amazing vacation driving all over Washington and having a van made it easy to get to far out places and be able to car camp. This is not our first time van camping, however it is our first time with Escape and it was not as great of an experience as we've had before. Here I go on my tangent. When booking it doesn't matter what pickup time you select, within a week of your pickup date you will be emailed asking what time you'd like to pickup your van. If others email back before you and pick the earlier time you will not be given that time. At booking I selected 11am pickup (the earliest) but we ended up getting a 1:30pm pickup time so we sat in our hotel room half the day. In my opinion the extra fees are pretty ridiculous. You are charged daily rates for bedding, cooking supplies (pans, utensils, plates), camping chairs which we opted out of, and anything else that you might need that you obviously wouldn't travel with in your suitcase. You are given 500 free miles which is decent unless you really want to road trip, which we did. Once you pass 500 miles you are charged $.33 per mile, so we ended up with another charge of $78 at drop off. Compared to our past van trips, escape vans are not set up great. There is very little storage for gear and bags. Clothes go in the drawers, which are under your bed once you set it up, so don't forget anything in there or you're out of luck. We ended up just having to keep bags and suitcases in the second row of seats. We also paid an extra daily rate to have a rooftop tent because there were 3 of us and it was extremely noisy and not very comfortable. If you're looking for a van rental you can definitely do better, especially for as much as you're going to pay in the end. read more

I want to be clear - my review is not for the campervan itself, but just the reservation process. We are a young family of 5, with three kids 8 and under. I needed something that would seat 5 but I also definitely need something that could sleep 5. The rooftop sleeper is key for any family to make it work. I am not sure why this is the case, but they could not guarantee availability of the rooftop sleeper. I was told that if it wasn't available then they would let me use a regular tent. I'm not keen on setting up a tent for half of my family to sleep in - it totally negates the whole point of being comfortable in a van to begin with. I knew exactly which dates I needed it, and in my mind, if it's available I'm happy to pay for the usage, and if it's not, then I can't book the van and make it work. Isn't everyone reserving this in advance and shouldn't they have a record of whether or not it is reserved during the week that I'm requesting it? They were very friendly and fine with me canceling my van reservation, but why can't I get a straight answer on reserving the rooftop?! It is critical to making the decision to rent a van for a family! Overall I'm pretty bummed and until I can guarantee use of the rooftop sleeper I probably won't ever be able to rent from this company. Until then, I'll be slogging the family around in the minivan with our trusty old tent and sleeping bags. read more

Went on a 6-7 day road trip with my boyfriend and we LOVED our van!!! We got the maverick and it was the best thing in the world! Bed so comfy we slept like babies every night! Fridge in the back was perfectly cold kept our food fresh throughout! Plenty of storage spaces! The car was extremely reliable! We have NOTHING bad to say about it. It was the perfect ride! We're never going anywhere else other than escape camper vans when we're taking another trip! And customer service is unbeatable! Nicest people here! :) We're bragging to all our friends! And we will definitely be back! Thanks for such a amazing camping/road trip experience!!! read more

Escape Campervans rock! We just got back from an amazing road trip and we completely loved our custom-painted campervan. They're affordable, the layout inside is simply ingenious, the bed is really comfortable, lots of nice details like shelving, a fridge, sink, chairs and custom-fit blackout blinds, all 'n all a total winner! We can't wipe the smiles off our faces from such a great experience. The van ran perfectly and is the perfect size - spacious enough to hold stuff and to have a big enough bed, but still totally easy to maneuver and park. The staff at Escape is friendly, accommodating and helpful. And each van is custom painted by really talented artists - pretty cool that this growing business supports the arts as well. I don't have single bad thing to say, except that it's really difficult waiting for the next time I have some time off and we can hit the road again in one of these things! Yes I would recommend, because I like the concept. Small van, access to campsites, low consumption, equipped ok. Our car was not in good shape, the chassis was very week and it made noise when the road was bumpy. The plugs (cigarette adapter) didn't work, this was really annoying on a 6weeks trip, because you have problems to charge our stuff. We rented a van plus tent for five people and ten days. I love the van setups, including solar powered refrigerators and camping light. True the van we rented was a bit old and slightly quirky but we still loved it and they anyways told us at the start that we could get a newer van if we waited a few more minutes for it to be cleaned. These guys are a real pleasure to work with. read more

I rented a campervan for my family to drive from LA to Seattle and it was great. The kids loved the van and they loved being in the back while we drove. The staff was awesome too and the guy in Seattle (sorry, don't remember his name) even helped us get to the metro after drop off. We hope to use them again when we come back out west in the fall. Tip, drive through the Avenue of the Giants in Northern CA, it's amazing. read more

Great vans, great service! We spoke to Phil when we rented the camper and he was incredibly busy but still took the time to help us map out our trip with the time we had. Our initial plan was ambitious to say the least! He acted like a travel agent, and helped us pick the best spots and get a much better picture of how much time each place would take. Camper had everything you could need! Fridge in the Maverick worked amazingly, bed was comfy, the paint jobs are awesome but not garish! Very comfortable long drives too! Just be prepared for the 16-18mpg, when filling up A 30gallon tank it averaged us $80-$85 a top op. Not a draw back so much, pretty standard for a van this size. Just to factor in your cost. But about the size, there's so much space in this thing! If you get hit with bad weather you can easily hang in the van. If you're going for more than two weeks though- ask about their van's for sale! Regularly serviced every 5k miles, regularly waned, comes with everything you need for around $2200! Wish we'd thought of that earlier! Would've only been another $600! Highly recommend these guys! read more

I planned to drive to Colorado with my sister for a family reunion and then do a solo road trip for a week through the ancestral indian sites in the Southwest. I was dismayed at the size and prices for rental RVs until I found Escape Campervans on the Internet. The van I rented from them was EXACTLY what I needed, and I had such fun on my mini-vacation! Even though I bought the unlimited mileage and the maximum insurance, my two-week rental, INCLUDING GAS, was just under $2000! Everything the other reviewers have said is right on---convenience, comfort, privacy, all the accessories you can imagine, and lots of back-up from the guys at the office, should you need it (I didn't). The van I got---"Yosemite"---was perfect for me, a 65-yr-old female solo traveler. I felt totally safe, and everyone I met loved the van. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

Lohan, Raphael's dog greeted us at the door, after that we knew we were at the right place. Raphael was very helpful and informative. We called him from the road a few times, he was always courteous and answered all of our questions. This place is really awesome, The vans are clean and have everything you need for your camping trip. I have already refer two of my friends and they equally love this place. I highly recommend this place, we are planning another trip and will return to escape campervans. Keep up the awesome job guys. read more

Took a roadtrip last summer with a few friends from Los Angeles, CA to Montana. Great experience with the folks who ran this place. Van was fully equipped with convertible bed, sink, portable stove, and all that good stuff that they advertise. Really added to the unforgettable experience of a roadtrip of a lifetime. Friends and I were all 21 and it was our first time going on a trip like this, and this van really made it easy :) thinking about taking another roadtrip this summer and will probably book another campervan from these guys! read more

We rented a Malibu van to do a Southwestern road trip through CA, AZ, NM, & TX. Our experience with Escape rocked! We loved our van and got many compliments on the van's paint job throughout the trip (American Eagle/Native American Indian) and I didn't go out of my way to explain I wasn't the one who actually painted it, if you know what I mean ;) A special thank you to Rafael who not only was super friendly and helpful, but also kindly held all of my CDs that I had forgotten in the van and noticed after a month! One more thing, I loved the experience so much that I sold my Benz and I'm getting my own van now, ROAD TRIP FOREVER! :) read more

My boyfriend and I rented a van for a week. So easy and convenient! We stayed around the LA area and down in San Diego too. Was a bit chilly at night in late March but the van did a pretty good job at staying warm enough for the whole night. The guys who work there were all super nice. It's the perfect trip for a couple to adventure for cheap! read more

We booked a Beeva van. they didn't have it and switched us to a high 5. the problem with this is the Beeva has a large lower sleeping area, the lower sleeping area in the high 5 was small and does not fit people over 5'5. we decided to sleep in the ypper area, which was fine, but when temperatures are cold and you have to pee a lot, it can be difficult to get down and get out of the van constantly. The van was nice to drive and was new, handled well and the gas consumption was good. At the end of the trip we were told we needed to fill up the gas to full on the van, fill up the propane tank and dump the grey water. While there are places nearby, these are additional trips and plans we had to consider as the van had to be back by 3pm. Some planning and scheduling was required. especially for the grey water as Joshua Tree had black water dumping stations but had no where to dump grey water. We needed to work a bit to figure this one out. all in all a pleasant experience. Some things could have been improved but, as I mentioned I feel this is the best way to camp California in the fall / winter months.

Exceptional customer service, from first point of contact to returning the vehicle. Renting from Lost Campers felt like renting from a neighborhood friend. If any questions popped up, Lost Campers was an easy text or phone call away. The Lost Camper vans may be a bit older with minor wear and tear, but the vans are clean inside and out, in great working condition, and professionally maintained. They actually drive "newer" than their miles indicate. I also liked that the vans were nondescript with no exterior signage for added security. As a tip: Make sure to pay attention during the tutorial in folding and storing the camper bed. But anytime you need a great outdoors adventure - Lost Campers awaits!

Ed and Arturo took great care of us, making sure that we had everything we needed, and even went over specific tips and tricks we could use to conserve as much power as possible since we were boondocking for the first time. Ed answered my billion questions over the months leading up to our booking, and made me feel very confident and secure everything would go well. Arturo gave us a great walkthrough of all the RV's features and really set us up for success. When you're talking with these guys, you know that they really care about you having a fantastic and easy time on your adventures. The RV was fully stocked with everything we could have needed - linens, coffee machine, kitchen gear, cleaning supplies, the works! I definitely did not need to pack so much, because it was clear that they had already thought of everything their clients might need. The RV was pristinely clean and didn't have a single technical issue. And the fact that they take Sunday dropoffs was a lifesaver! This was the first time we'd ever rented an RV, and the whole experience was so smooth and comfortable that I can't wait for another excuse to go on an RV trip. I did a lot of research on private rental companies vs. owner rentals. I really liked how luxurious the interiors were and how they offered delivery and pick up. It was more pricey but I wanted to be comfortable. I decided to give Road shark a try and it worked out beautifully. *One thing I did not know is how much additional rental insurance etc. you had to tack on with the rental. Besides that, the amenities were suitable for my family of four and my two fur boys. I checked in with Brett prior to delivery date to get some of my questions answered. He personally delivered the RV and gave us a run down of all the amenities and how to operate everything. I appreciated the accuracy of the yelp photos of the interiors. So many times you rent and find out when you arrive, the pictures were very outdated and what you get paid is not what you get. Not in this case. I paid for Wifi connection but they did not bring an ipad for connectivity. Brett apologized and said he would comp us for the Wifi charge. He told us we could just use our phone's hotspot and connect. It worked out nicely, and we had Wifi at the campgrounds. We were comped for it. Brett made sure we understood all instructions before he hailed an uber back to LA. Since it was out first time RV-ing, we went to KOA in San Diego to reduce anxiety. the drive was smooth up to 65 miles per hour. When we exceeded the recommended speed, things would start rattling and shaking. We quickly understood why we had to adhere to the speed recommended to drive. Other than that, my kids were very happy sitting in the back enjoying their onboard entertainment. When we arrived at the campgrounds, went pulled into our spot with full hookups. We took note the black water port did not have an adapter so we could not hook it up full time to empty. I texted Brett and he said we could either purchase a kit that would be reimburses or not empty it (and we would not get charged since no adapter). We later figured out a way how to manually empty as needed. Everything else worked well. I was extremely surprised at how well the convection oven/microwave worked for the kids chicken nuggets and corn dogs. Even though all the kitchenware was included in the RV, we still brought our own pans and disposable dishware. The beds were clean, freshly laundered sheets smelled great but did not fit the beds well (probably a common issue). It only comes with 3 sets of sheets and towels. Only two pillows which I also asked Brett about. He said we could purchase some and they will comp us for the cost. We survived without it. We took a shower the first night on the RV but then decided to transition to the showers in the building due to space. The onboard water temp and pressure was great. I did not have to worry about running out of hot water. The toilet flush pressure was also ideal to combat my husbands bathroom trips. No issues with the kitchen sink or any other appliances. The fridge was a perfect size for all our meats and frozen desserts. The car shades in front and the shades for the interior created a perfect environment for sleep. We really enjoy the outside LED light awnings. We utilized the camp ground picnic table and internet to eat dinners and watch movies around the campfire. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience. Brett had great communication throughout the trip and the last day as we came home. I let him know we were heading back and he let us know when he would be coming over to provide pick up. We got home, he came to pick up the RV, and he was on his way back to LA. About a week later I received the email about the $1,500 deposit scheduled for refund on our account, and he swapped the pick up delivery/fee with the Wifi charge. I highly recommend renting with RoadShark RV. We had a great newbie glamping experience. The price of a comfortable and newer interior rental made all the difference for me and my family. Our family of six needed a vehicle to get us from Los Angeles to Colorado during January 2015. We investigated all the big names (including Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Sixt, Budget, Dollar, National, and Thrifty), and first considered getting a minivan. The problem was that the only vehicle offered by most of them is the Dodge Caravan, which gets poor reviews for seating comfort. Our only other minivan option was a Toyota Sierra, and we contacted about a dozen small rental companies in LA. Most of them do not allow travel outside of California (even the mainstream company Alamo, who I had rented from several times previously in Florida, do not allow you travel to Colorado, but you only find this out if you read the small print), and even those that do are somewhat opaque about their insurance coverage; if you are concerned about this you need to be very careful when dealing with any rental company in the US. We had also considered full-size SUVs, but despite what you read on the Internet, these are not really suitable for more than 5 people covering long distances; we had viewed one of the largest ones, a Chevy Suburban, but the seating in the third row is unacceptably cramped -- it's amazing how Chevy has managed to make such a lot of metal on the outside result in such a small amount of usable space on the inside. So we decided to opt for a full-size van, which in hindsight was probably our only viable option anyway given that we had 8 suitcases plus hand luggage with us. This meant that Avis was a possibility (whose website is excellent for providing comprehensive information, including about insurance), as were a few small companies near LAX. Thanks to Google StreetView we discovered Escape Campers (next door to another rental company that we got close to hiring a vehicle from). Escape Campers offered me a vehicle that no one else in LA offered at a reasonable price: a full-size van with proper seats, rather than the rear bench seats that such vans normally have. This was a much better option for a long road trip like ours. Not only that, the Escape Campers website provided very clear information about the insurance coverage that was available, and the whole package was going to be cheaper than getting an inferior (if somewhat newer) vehicle from Avis. Got perfect customer service while getting a quotation and making the booking, which was several months in advance. A slight negative point was that our booking included them picking us up from LAX, and we were only told a few days before our arrival that they had changed their minds and that we would have to find our own way. But this turned out to be only a minor inconvenience. We picked up a Ford E150 van that was a few years old but in excellent condition and which ran perfectly throughout the 3 weeks that we had it. And pretty easy to drive, especially for anyone used to driving SUV-type vehicles; though be prepared for lots of fast and occasionally aggressive driving once you get on the LA freeways and, especially, the interstate highways. We did not have to contact Escape Campers during our journey, so can't comment on how good the 24-hour breakdown service is. Escape Campers' main business is providing campervan vehicles that they fit out themselves. The rather in-your-face paint jobs might either attract you to them or put you off, but since we didn't hire one of those we can't comment on how good they are. But I wholeheartedly recommend Escape Campers particularly if you are looking for a passenger van. Please note that these are no longer advertised on their website (as of March 2015), but they might still be available if you need such a vehicle during the winter months. read more

Omg! I'm quite an adventure! And since I've had a family, I've tried glamping quite a bit. My family and I even did a six month cross country trip in an RV. And yet, escape camper vans are one of my favorite adventuring experiences! If you haven't tried them, try them. I have rented larger vans like the Solis on three separate occasions. And still, escape camper vans are one of my favorite adventuring experiences! Listen, the gas is so easy to deal with, not anything ridiculous for the amount of road you can cover. You can go long distances with ease in a vehicle that actually has some speed and doesn't feel like a drag. You can pull over without any difficulties. You can stay in a parking lot! Or you can stay somewhere along the beach. Or you can find a camping spot at a campground. You don't even need an RV campsite! You get to get a tent site! You open up that bad boy you make a fire outside and you cook behind the vehicle! The kids hang out inside, but they're much more likely to be outside because of the small space. when it's cold at night, you close it up and it's so warm! And you feel protected! It's like the best tent ever! A tent on wheels! Highly recommended! Yes, the vans are converted vans. There are some things that could be upgraded and updated. That would be really lovely! Sometimes there's spots in the padding that don't feel too comfortable when you squeeze too many people on the bed I know because I did a 12 Day Rd. trip just myself and my two children. We slept so cozy inside! And since I'm a female, it felt nice and safe! I love escape, camper vans! Have you noticed? The cool paintings on the vans, make it such a cool experience! People can't help but stop and acknowledge your mobile tent! And you just feel good in it. You're driving around in a piece of art! It's really nice My recommendation is get their bedding and their kitchen gear. It makes your life so much easier when you don't have to transport your stuff in and out. And another thing, the prices are great! And you can get some good deals throughout the year. I hope this helps. You say yes to this experience. It really is a sweet balance between being outdoors and having a cozy space. It forces you to be outdoors more than in because the kitchen is outside. But that's a bonus! It really connects you to nature way more than most of the other vehicles you may be traveling in. And while I love tent camping, it's hard to move from tent site to another. So you usually stay at one or two places. With this van, you can move from place to place. One night at a new spot, and a day of roadtripping! Just to land at another new spot! It's the best! I say YES! I say YOU SAY YES The above van tents are a little challenging to get into. But agile kids that love a climb are gonna love it! It's big enough to fit two adults The van that has the entrance to the above van tent, is super fun! If you can do that one with the family with children, do that one! I've never rented their smaller vehicle because I like the fact that I can almost stand up in the van. That means I can change and I have more space for storage. It would be cheaper on gas though! And easier to navigate in! Anyhow, I say yes! Say yes! It is quite an adventure (I've rented from them 4 times now - they are worthy of return business ) Oh oh... and they are always really nice! Was in the states for a month covering the west coast and had pre booked everything with Escape. Got to the office to pick up the car and there were a bunch there to select from. Saw one of the Dodge vans and was recommended that as it has a few great features. As soon as I walked in i was pleasantly greeted by Raphael and his other coworker. To me, as it was the fiest time travelling solo, ensuring I had everything good to go was key. Raphael explicitly explained everything to me to ensure I was set and good to go. Got the van, and everything was great, they gave me directions to places I needed to go which helped out a bunch. About halfway through my trip I noticed the oil light comw up and called the guys to see what they wanted me to do. The bloke gave me the simple option to stop into a mechanics and get it sorted and that I would be reimbursed for any charges associated. To know that if there was any issue with the car, I could get it fixed and it would be no hassles with Escape was comforting. Drove the car up and back the West Coast. Covered about 7000 miles in the Van and had no dramas whatsoever. The bed in the back was super comfortable, made with mattress material. As I never travelled before I was a bit iffy on how I would go sleeping in the van, but had no dramas. Bed was comfy, had curtains all the way around to block out light. The car seemed insulated because the temperature was always pretty moderate and not too much noise. They provided blankets, sheets, camp chairs, cooking utensils and crokery. Everything I needed to be on the road for month. The van has a crazy set up in the back with a fridge and propane stove. Easy to use. Although I never cooked because I figured I was on holiday. I always read these reviews and am never sure on how accurate they are, but being that this was the fiest time I travelled alone and the US , I was very concious about everything. I can say that this was undoubtedly the greatest experience of my life and the van and Escaoe contributed alot to that. Having the comfort, convenience and simplicity of having the van made my trio so much better. I did so much more because I was able to just get up and drive to wherever I wanted. The car handled very well and was exceptional on gas. I got approximately 400 miles from a tank (highway driving) I have and will continue to reccomend my experience with anyone and everyone, due to the fact that it was so easy and exceptional. Raphael is awesome and super helpful with everything. Definitely ask the guys there for advice on where to go. The LA office is a little out of the way from LAX, which is a bit of a hassle. While there is a free shuttle that can pick you up from the airport, it takes awhile. The service at the office was a little slow, so my girlfriend and I passed the time petting the chihuahuas. This is a company with amazing campervans, chill and friendly people, and hassle free prices. We rented the campervan for 4 days, got a free upgrade to a Ventura van, and even had our surplus mileages waived (we went over our 100 mi/day by a bit)! We drove the campervan from LA to SF one way. Overall, the price for the campervan was $363 for 4 days (insurance included, gas not included). Notes on our Ventura van: (Space on the Ventura is best suited for 2 people + stuff. Everything below is based on items included in the most basic option) Driving/handling- It was a Dodge, a little larger than a minivan? Handling was great. Gas mileage was decent. The engine was a little weak on acceleration, but we were also carrying a bit of stuff. The A/C wasn't very cold until it kicked in the last day. It could have been just us not figuring it out. Overall it was enjoyable and had a very solid feel. Paint job - Our van was beautiful. It was a great icebreaker as we met people along the way. Bed- It was at least queen sized, and surprisingly very comfortable. The included pillows, comforters, and blanket were thick and warm enough for us at night. The van also included black cloth "curtains" you could roll down for extra privacy (my girlfriend definitely appreciated this). Features- Comes with multiple cigarette lighter ports, so bring inverters to charge your electronics! Had an aux in, which is great for smartphone DJing. Enough holders on the sides and dashboard to hold all your random stuff for the day. The included sink, propane stove, 2 propane canisters, utensils, pots/pans, and fridge were all functional and made our trekking week a comfortable luxury. We appreciated the included table and 2 folding chairs, but ended up not using them. Oh, and definitely get the $9/day insurance. It'll save you stress and ended up helping us out at the last minute with a terrible parking job at night (oops). Call the day before returning it. they're pretty cool about you turning it in late if there are no immediate reservations. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful three weeks with our Escape camper. Took us all the way from LA to Vegas and into Arizona Grand Canyon as well as Yosemite and all the hotspots in Cali. Escape Campers doesn't exactly make it easy to stay objective on these reviews since we got a free upgrade to the large van right out of the gate. We also had three camping chairs onboard although we didn't book any. Can't argue with that. Actually we learned to appreciate both the larger van and chairs pretty quickly so both are well worth getting. Can't think of just the countless times we pulled up into a scenic parking spot, busted out the chairs and enjoyed breakfast in the open with the kitchen right behind us. Much better than having to sit inside or having to find a bench (for some reason that didn't bother me a year ago in Australia but there you go). The van itself felt reassuringly reliable all the way. I read in another review that theirs was a little bumpy and shaky. Well that's kind of true but then again, I had campers from other companies where you had to skip a gear and that didn't really bother me, so maybe others feel differently about these kind of things. Just saying that ours felt well maintained. The fridge with the extra solar roof powering is pure awesomeness btw. Was still going strong after 2.5 days in a Vegas parking lot while others in the past had issues to even last the night. A small minus to me was that the camper carried only one large blanket instead of two. Let's just say that it's not all bad when you're with your wife (actually it still sucks, lol), but you might wanna check for this if you're travelling with a friend. I will also second the critique regarding paint of the van, though I did anticipate that. Actually the dimout windows and curtains go a long way and are much more beneficial if you need to stay and sleep at the roadside but, well, let's just say that you might wanna consider arriving late and looking for dimly lit streets due to the paint scheme. Risk of theft is also an issue I guess, but it sure does look nice in photos that's for certain. Overall we got a great deal and unbureaucratic handling by their friendly staff. We were even able to stock up on some provisions at their do-it-yourself locker. Highly recommended! read more

We are French, and a friend and I did a 10 days end of September 2017 trip in Camper Van! That's a really amazing concept and really nice staff at The Camper Van Office! Unfortunately, the Van had 281 000 Miles and the van broke down twice in the middle of nowhere (in Yosemite the first time, then Lake Tahoe). Their platform was unable to help us, while our vehicle down put others on the road in danger every time because we couldn't move it...). The technicians of the Escape Camper Van telephone platform clearly told us that they "couldn't do anything for us right now". Both times. We were helpless and very much stressed. But we finally got (brilliant!) idea to call 911 (emergency number in the United States). They are great reagents and sends you a tow truck and a traffic officer in the half hour! Once this is done, we have no news of Escape Camper Van. They just sent us an email that they didn't have a van of replacement to provide and they refunded us only the rental of the last 5 or 6 days remaining we.... Outrageous. So we ourselves for rent a new vehicle in another agency named "Entreprises". (It's the policeman who got us on the edge of the highway that brought us there, because escape camper van had no assistance send us). We also had to find Hotels and restaurants every day instead of cooking in our Camper VAN in which we had bought a lot of food. Our costs have increased tenfold and the trip ultimately cost much more expensive than expected. We were really disappointed. But it could have been a great trip with just some "incredible events" if the company had been professional. NOTE: BE CAREFUL! The Escape Camper Van insurance doesn't cover you in Death Valley (between May and October seems you it!) they don't tell you but it is well written in the contract that is in the door of the Van! This was my first time renting a camper van, and I think I've been converted! This is definitely the way to travel through national and state parks. We picked the van up in LA and then spent four nights in Big Sur, California, camping at a different place in the park each night. The best part of the experience for me was realizing that, when you carry your home with you, everywhere can be a home! So the trip had a very different feel than staying in a hotel, hostel, or lodge. Of course, it was cushier than actual camping, but I still felt immersed in the landscape, which is wonderful in a place as beautiful and invigorating as Big Sur. The whole rental process was very smooth--from picking out a car, to learning about all the features, to using it, and returning it. Everything was pretty much worry-free. We even got a free upgrade and got to use a brand-new van with a gorgeous paint job. (The Ventura is an excellent model!) The van comes with a sink, all your cooking utensils, an easy-to-use propane stove, a table, a really comfortable bed with a tempur-pedic mattress, pillows, blankets--pretty much everything you need, which is great because that means you don't have to bring a big suitcase with you. As many other people have said, the paint job on the car is a great conversation starter and also a good way to bond with other people using Escape. We met lots of Escape campers in Big Sur and instantly had something to rave about together--our experience with Escape. Great company, and I am really hoping to get myself back out west to use them again soon! read more

The van. was. awesome. We rented from the Los Angeles location and drove out to Joshua Tree. It is one of the best spots for stargazing. We didn't have a lot of time for our weekend getaway and having the van was super convenient. Because of the van's amenities, we didn't need to pack as much stuff as we normally would. Clean up and camp break down was quick and easy, too. The van had a mini fridge, sink with water and camp stove. Normally, we cook over a fire and it's a lot of time and work. Bed inside the van was easy to put together and comfy! I was toasty warm - no complaints. I honestly am struggling imaging our next camp trip in a normal tent. I worked with Phil via email to set up a reservation. He was patient with my last minute changes and got me an awesome van rental at crunch time. At the lot, staff was laid back and friendly. They walked us through the van features and everything was simple and easy to use. I loved that there is a 'community' area like in most hostels where people leave behind things left over from their trip. We were able to grab stuff we hadn't thought of to bring like tin foil, olive oil and seasonings. There were also fire wood, lighters, guidebooks and more! I would highly recommend renting from Escape and have already gushed about it to everyone. I think it's especially good for first time campers who don't have a lot of camp gear and also for the busy camping seasons. If you're heading to a campsite that's first come, first serve and you don't get a spot - you aren't screwed and can just sleep in the van! read more

Salt Lake City rental. We enjoyed the van. We had it for a week in Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons. Javier is a super kind employee and even hand delivered Polaroid photos to our hotel that my daughter left in the van. That was so kind! However, we had a few issues with the van. A big one was that the camp stove didn't work. Well it worked but it kept catching fire, which was kind of scary. That was really frustrating for an entire week. we couldn't really cook after spending a couple hundred on groceries. Also all the grey water from the sink leaked onto the ground from a broken pipe. The tent topper is really hard to close if you don't have two strong adults. As a single mom, who works out, It was just me and my two children (11 yr old is the oldest) and it was such a struggle to close it. The last part is that we needed to return the van between 8-10am on on our return day. It probably said that in our initial paperwork but I missed it and didn't plan for it. I called to let them know I'd be late that day, arriving about 1pm and they were not understanding of it. They rent out every van without leaving any room for an accident or someone being late or having Covid. So we had to return a day early. Regardless, we had a fun trip! I don't think I would rent from the same company though. While we were out, we saw so many other van companies that looked so much nicer that I didn't know about. read more

Just got back from a holiday along the California coast - great trip!! We had "Sherbert" for five days to camp in Big Sur, along the coast and up into Napa and Sonoma. Starting from LA, we picked up the campervan from Rob who gave us some great tips for where to camp, eat, drink, check out the views, sea lions, etc. etc. all the way up to where we were dropping off the van in San Fran. Sherbert had plenty of space for the two of us, the kitchenette in the back held everything we needed and between the wine and fresh air, the sleeping quarters were perfect. The van got us a lot of attention (in a good way) with many folks wanting to check out the inside and find out more about it. Easy to drive, great places to camp and stop along the way - it even got us to the gem that is Pfieffer Beach where my bf got down on one knee and surprised me with a ring! Almost didn't want to give up our home away from home, but dropping off the van was also a breeze - great people, great product. Highly, highly recommend for anyone taking a road trip. We even saw fellow Escapees along the way, so got to check out other cool designs but Sherbert will always hold a special place in our hearts. read more

Awesome Maverick campervan and even more awesome service. The van was equipped with everything and was in perfect running order! From reserving the van from the site to the pickup location (we went to LA) to showing us some of the features of the van - seamless, easy, and no surprises other then what we experienced in our adventures. We drove to Joshua Tree, Crystal Cove, and Leo Carrillo state park. I couldn't believe how easy it was to drive for me (Im 5'2 woman). This was also an unexpected trip sorta of a last minute thing, so having this van was perfect. It had folding chairs, a hand towel, pots, stove, sink, blankets, curtains, and space for us to load lots of firewood and our clothes. All we did was buy some groceries and firewood! We would definitely recommend this kind of experience to our friends and actually have started talking about our next campervan trip! We really appreciated how great our experience was and the memories we got from seeing parts of California in the Maverick campervan!! read more

Had a disastrous experience with mouse infestations in two separate Mavericks vans rented from Portland/Seattle. Was very disappointed in how the company has brushed it off as a "very rare" occurrence, yet told us that it is also something to be expected when you are outdoors. Was told several times that they had never heard of this happening, yet both Portland and Seattle managers used the same exact verbiage of "isolating the van and setting traps" as the solution they would take at each depot. Since then, I've found at least two other individuals with a similar experience. This is a major issue and shows just how shoddy the conversions were done (at least for older van models), not to mention the lack of maintenance and cleanliness of the older van models. I did not pay $2100 to sleep with mice in a dirty van with worn out brakes and almost 300k miles. This is NOT okay, Escape. UPDATE: I have received a partial refund from Escape for these issues, but that still does not change my opinion and experience. read more

We had a great experience with the van! It was in a good condition and fun to drive with. There were two things though that bothered us a bit: When one of the wheels broke we were supposed to change the wheel ourselves which was something we never did before and didn't expect to happen. Even though we got instructions via telephone we weren't sure how to do it, but fortunately we got help from a guy driving by which solved our problem. Another thing we noticed in the end was that at the pick up station in LA there was a shelf with stuff other people left there for future customers to take (sunflower oil, travel guides, salt&pepper ...) where we also left the things we had left over. We would have been very happy to know that this shelf existed at the beginning of our trip!! We had to buy everything ourselves just because the staff didn't tell us about it. But apart from that we really recommend Escape as prices are appropriate and transparent and they are very nice and try to help when problems occur. read more

Just got back from a week trip at Yosemite and Big Sur. My family of 3 had a great time driving and staying in "The Green Machine". We were in the larger of the vans and had plenty of room for storage and sleeping. Bed was completely comfortable for 2 adults and a 5 year old. Van is super practical. First day in Yosemite, we woke up, drove to Glacier Point, watched the sun come up and then parked the van at Warshaw point and made a big breakfast with the included camping stove. Loved having a fridge - it holds a lot more than it looks like it can. Check in and check out with the Escape staff was seemless. Matt at the LA location was great to work with and got us checked in upon our return very quickly and was very friendly. Would rent from them in a heart beat. Just wish they had an Atlanta location. read more

We rented the Bayou Maverick from Los Angeles for a road trip to Denver for the holidays. We opted to sleep in truck stops and my teen son loved it. Despite no plug in for heat the blankets provided kept us very warm even when we ran into an ice storm and the interstate shut down. It was us and lots of big rigs in a no services rest area on a prairie. We were safe and warm. The bed was big enough for two teens and a mom. While visiting family we plugged in the heat and slept in the van. This enabled us to have our own space. We will rent again. The service during drop off and pick up was terrific. The bench easily converted to a bed and there was plenty of storage for our bags, provisions and presents. The black out curtains and tinted windows afforded us complete privacy. We had blast in our Escape van! It came with everything we needed to cook (but i was glad that I brought my big cast iron pot from home). The pump sink in the back of our van a life saver. It made it so easy to keep our hands and the kitchen tools clean. It was so cold at night in J-tree so we were so glad to have the van to sleep in. it was only to of us in the van but we cold have had three and still been very comfortable, or squeezed a fourth in there for a tighter nights sleep. Driving around was so fun too because we looked dope in our custom paint job. Pick up and drop of was easier than getting a rental car, they don't try to up-sell you or tack on extra crap. If you're more of a glamper and less of a rugged camper, get one of these vans. So much fun! read more

Escape Campervans exceeded my expectation in customer service, price, and sheer fun. I've told everyone who will listen about the amazing la to sf trip my friend did utilizing one of these vehicles. We rented the maverick which is supposed to sleep 3-4. I'm 6'1 my friend is 5'6, we fit comfortably. I can't imagine where the third would have fit. They do offer roof top tents for extra and I would consider that if I was traveling with more than two people. The propane stove was super easy to use. We were provided two canisters of complimentary fuel. We did a lot of cooking so had to buy another, but they're cheap-3.95 usd. The fridge had ample space for 2-3 days provisions for 2 people. We loved it and are looking at a trip from LV to DEN sometime this year. read more

Had a such great trip in the camper vans! Fridge, camping chairs and cooking gear make it really easy to enjoy the great outdoors. A friend and I took two vans up the coast and into Big Basin state park weekend before last. Without the vans I dont think the trip would have been possible since the campsite was extremely damp and cold in the morning. It was so nice to wake up in the redwoods, warm and dry in the comfort of the vans. It definitely makes camping off season and in winter possible! When we were ready to leave we just drove off, no packing up tents or gear. The seats are very comfortable (it felt like driving a lay-z-boy up the 101) and the van is easy to maneuver through busy city streets (we drove through LA and San Francisco). Terrible experience dropping off at Salt Lake City Escape Van. We brought our van back a day early after speaking to Escape Van's "Evan" on phone who said ,when asked if we would get a refund for the 1 day we did not use, "No problem, the staff at SLC will take care of that". Staff at SLC not interested in customers - just want to get them checked in and gone. Unhelpful, not interested in your trip, unfriendly. Our pick up experience with Mexican associate was great but the red haired girl and American man who checked us in had zero customer service skills. 2nd time booking with Escape Vans. Both times vans were great but will not be booking with them again because of drop off experience. Will take our $1955 trip to another company. read more

We are a family of four (children are 8 and 4). We rented out Puff, our van, for two weeks this summer for a trip in New England. We loved it! The van itself was basic, but that is what we wanted. It was bigger inside than what we expected. Unfortunately there was no rooftop option available (we knew this when booking) so we all slept in the van itself and that was fine. Puff got us talking to so many people, asking us how we painted him, why a dragon, why we came all the way from california (its plate is from CA but we rented in NY)...etc... The communication with the company was smooth, they were friendly and really, there is nothing I could complain about... Now we are back home with fantastic out-of-the-ordinary experiences! read more
