The LA experience is particularly smooth--was unexpectedly awesome to get an Uber voucher to get me to and from the airport and the rental location. My Surfer (person who hands off the car) was responsive and punctual, and the customer service chat was always responsive and helpful. I love the idea of this company. It is the most convenient way to rent a car and avoid everything I hate about the incumbent companies. The price is fair and straight forward, especially if your own car insurance covers the rental. HOWEVER, there are glitches that make it maddening. The Kyte app wants to pre-populate the address of the pick up spot in LA. Except it took me to an unrelated location, which meant the Uber free voucher didn't cover the cost of the trip to get the car off-site. The car was great. Though I filled up the car at the end, I didn't have to, and they don't charge a penalty for refilling the gas. But, then they changed the location of the site of where to drop off the car. I was not notified, it was not in the app. Traveling is stressful. Not knowing where to return a car adds to that exponentially. And, once again, the app pre-populated my location for the Uber, and it was wrong again. Unclear why this happened, but it gives me pause to try them again until these things get worked out. read more

Lots of problems during this experience. DO NOT recommend using at airports. Very vague instructions about where to be. I was early to drop off car at BART station near San Francisco airport (as instructed) but Kyte "surfer" who was picking up car was on other side of station. We communicated via phone for awhile to meet up. By the time I got to where he was it was after the drop off time (by 3 minutes) so Kyte WANTED TO CHARGE LATE FEE! I was at location early!! Customer service is not helpful (can be hours to respond in chat). Very frustrating experience. Won't use again. At least for a couple of years (although betting they go under). read more

The price was right but the old saying "you get what you pay for" is certain true, at least based on my experience. First off, the process to verify IDs is HORRIBLE as the links that Kyte sent didn't work and getting a hold of customer service is very difficult. As of the night before our rental, we still weren't sure all drivers we approved, despite spending over an hour trying to get in touch with customer service. I'm not sure about the reviews stating thst Kyte comes to you but am calling BS. I discoverered immediately after booking the car that my hotel was closer to the pickup site than LAX. Not only would Kyte NOT arrange for pickup or dropoff at our hotel, they refused to allowed their Uber voucher to be used from our hotel, even though it would have been cheaper than the Uber to Lax. Picking up the car was a HIGE ordeal. First, it took forever to take my hotel shuttle to the airport on a Sunday morning. Then, the link Kyte texted me to order the Uber DID NOT work.....just like thev other links Kyte texted me. It took me 20 minutes at the airport departure area to get in touch with customer service to get this sorted out. When we finally got to the site, the car wasn't ready and we had to wait 15 more minutes. We ended up leaving with our car 1 hour past our scheduled pickup time. When I dropped the car off, I chose to walk the 1.5 miles to my hotel, rather than having to deal with the extra time and hassle of having to go to Lax and then take a shuttle to my hotel tbat is half way between Lax and pickup spot. While the savings versus other car rentals was subtantial, the $200 or so I saved did not come close to equalling the extra hassle, aggrevation and time we had to spend on dealing with Ktye's terrible customer service that is compumded by technology issues on their end. I'm not gping to use their service again. read more

The absolute worst. You won't save any money because they are a disaster . Something is always going wrong I can assure you. Disaster disaster disaster. And the customer service is rude as hell. You'll waste more time and money than just paying turo or an actual car rental company. Oh and they delivered a filthy car with empty "moonshine" bottles reeking of weed and body odor. The Jeep Compass wasn't cheap ($850 for 5 days) and was delivered to me at SeaTac airport extremely dirty. Customer service was a complete disaster I don't think English is the first language of whomever designed their mostly-automated, text-based customer support. When I expressed my dissatisfaction I was offered $15 (1.8% of the rental value) in Kyte Credit. This company does not give a #$%! about you or your satisfaction as a customer. While I like the idea of trying make rental car pickups / drop-offs faster with technology and am open to trying new things... this was a fail and I would not recommend Kyte to anyone that likes to be treated like a human. read more

If you want to extent your trip ... so easy ... you can do it through the app. We had a tire slashed while the car was parked in LA. Kyte was amazing. I don't really leave negative reviews but they delivered a filthy car to me, inside and out. I didn't complain other than make a comment to the guy who dropped the car off and his reply was that they were taking too long with other cars so he just brought the dirty car as is. I wasn't thrilled but I let it go. Fast forward to two days after returning the car, they charged me a $100 cleaning fee!! I used it for 3 days and didn't do anything to dirty it further besides normal driving. I disputed it, showed them the photos of the condition of the car upon delivery to me, and they refused to acknowledge that it was delivered dirty to me. The experience has been flawless - an Uber black picking us up curbside at the airport and driving us 5 minutes to the pickup location. Attempted to rent a car in the Denver area last week while I was there visiting family. No phone number listed had to search for info. Was told to meet whomever at some address near the airport. NEAR the airport not AT the airport. Got to a parking lot near some hotels. Nothing. Went in to try and get info from the front desk at one of the hotels. I'll start with the good: Price and Uber vs having to wait for a shuttle. The rest: Very difficult to find the pick up spot. Was with the Uber driver driving around for 10 minutes looking for the spot as they had apparently moved from the last time we rented with them a few months ago. On hold for 15 minutes waiting for my "surfer". When he feels like connecting he said. "I'm here". Umm ok. A minute into the conversation he states he's on the 6th floor of the parking garage and he saw us when we came but didn't think to check in on the only appointment scheduled for that time. There was one sign pointing to the garage but after driving up two floor and seeing no additional Kyte signs we thought we were going to the wrong way and the Uber driver didn't want to go any further. It would have been pretty easy to say in one of the thousand messages they send you that they are now located on the 6th floor of the parking garage. A literal 10 second update while some coder is taking a dump. The surfer eventually came down after letting us know he was doing us a huge favor. read more

ABYSMAL FAILURE WITHOUT EXPLANATION Booked a car in LA a week in advance; did the facial recognition and licence photo against my better judgement only to wait from 9am to 9.40am only to be told in the chat help that my delivery guy was not responding to messages and could i get myself to their car yard. This company is a disaster. We paid extra to get picked up and taken to our rental car. They kept texting us saying that the driver who was supposed to pick us up was going to be late. After an hour of this (and us waiting for an hour) they said they weren't coming and we had to take a $55 Uber ride to get to their car. We had just waisted an hour waiting for them, all along them telling us they were on their way, and then we had to spend another $55 to get to the car and a 40 minute ride. So we had just waisted 1:40 and $55 plus the money we paid them to pick us up. We missed my nephews West Point ring ceremony because of this and they never reimbursed us any of the money they said they were going to. read more
