My favorite place to play escape rooms! My friends and I have done both of their rooms (Deja Vu and Arcade) and we loved the both!! I'm actually a little sad that they don't have any more rooms. The puzzles were challenging and unique, the game masters were friendly and catered the clues to your party's preference; my friends didn't want too many hints and we got exactly that. The clues were vague as well, so it doesn't give away the answer! My friend and I have played escape rooms before. We were a party of 8 and played both Deja Vu and Arcade on expert mode. And they were challenging for sure, we finished both with maybe 10-12 minutes to spare. I would definitely recommend! read more

Great way to team build. I have not seen my cousins in over 8 years, so this was a great way to reconnect and share some memories. "Arcade" room brought me back to my childhood. we were thoroughly amazed how well the puzzles were created and kept us on our toes. The Arcade was my 89th room. I chose it over many other rooms in San Diego based on online recommendations. I can't say for sure what my rating would have been had I had a normal experience in the room--there were definitely some great things about the room--but given our specific experience I have to give it only two stars. Everything started off well enough. The room theme was fun, and we were enjoying the puzzles until we (minor spoiler alert) got into the second phase of the experience. We were a few minutes into the second phase when the gamemaster told us we weren't supposed to have gotten that far but that we could move forward anyway. Well, I didn't want to move forward. My purpose in doing these rooms is not to get to the end, but rather to get through everything. So I went back to the first phase to try to figure out what we had skipped. I was again working on the first part when the game master interrupted and said there was nothing to do in the first phase until we solved some more in the second phase. I was getting mixed signals, but since the communication with the gamemaster was mostly one way, I figured my best option was just to follow the gamemaster's recommendation. But by now I had wasted several minutes. We had also gotten knocked out of the puzzle-solving zone we were in. We kept thinking the whole time that we were missing something or that we had to take something from phase two back to phase one. Add to our frustration the fact that the air conditioner wasn't working--it was like that scene in Ghostbusters 2 where Egon is watching a couple in the waiting room thinking they are about to be called back to get marriage counseling, but Egon is just slowly increasing the temperature in the room to measure the effect of temperature on stress. I didn't know the AC was broken until after. I knew it was unbearably hot. One side of the room was so much hotter than the rest that I thought it was part of the puzzle--that we would find a secret room to a furnace or a cave with a fire-breathing dragon or something. Nope. The AC was just broken making it very hot and uncomfortable. What made it even worse was that we were there for corporate teambuilding during a business trip, and we were all wearing suits (with one of us in a dress). When we asked for our first hint, the gamemaster gave us a hint for something we had already solved--never a good sign. Then, I think because she felt bad that the room had malfunctioned, and she wanted to make sure we escaped, she kept giving us unsolicited hints. Except that some of them ended up being distracting because they didn't necessarily line up with what we were doing. Or they didn't make sense. Many were just fine. After we got out, she walked us through the parts we had skipped in the first room. That's when we found out that there was still quite a bit to do. She told us one of the puzzles had not been reset, which led to or being able to skip a decent chunk--including the coolest reveal of the game. She did let us go through everything we skipped as she told us what to do. The gamemaster was flustered and kept apologizing, so I mean no ill will to the company--ours just ended up being what was probably a fluke bad experience. I think if the AC had worked and the game had been reset correctly, it could have been a top-notch room. Even if they had made a mistake and didn't reset the room correctly, it would have been a much better experience if they had come into the room, reset it correctly, and then let us continue where we left off. True--the big reveal would not have been as surprising, but at least we would have experienced the whole room. It's to too bad you can't do the same room twice or I would love to try again. Hopefully this review will help Escape Era create a better experience for future visitors. read more

One of the best escape rooms I've done. I have done many escape rooms, and the arcade room at escape room is certainly one of my favorites. It has an 80s theme to it and a realistic arcade setup with neon lights and everything. I especially loved the arcade music they were jamming the entire time. Our host, Anthony, did a great job of helping us when we got stuck and explaining the room beforehand. I'd highly recommend this room to any escape room enthusiasts. read more

This escape room is the BEST. I've done two others in Orange County. Fox in a Box has a nicer franchised look, and there's a lot of these independent rooms opening up like this one that may look simpler. But Escape Era's presentations inside the rooms BLOWS the others out of the water. Their technology and surprise elements are so good! There's some cool personalized touches that the others didn't do. Long and Alvin were excellent hosts, they were in character from the get-go, and provided clues when we were stuck without giving away the answers. We went the day after Christmas, so props for working during the holiday so we could have a great family experience. We did Deja Vu and loved it. read more

We booked both rooms at Escape Era for a company outing. Although one of the rooms is quite a bit harder than the other, we asked them to set both up at a master level so that we could have a team challenge to see who can complete the challenge first. Most of our attendees had never done an escape room challenge before, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. The challenges range from very easy, to quite challenging, and it is very easy for everyone in the room to get involved and participate. My first time trying out an escape room - wanted to see what all the hype was about. We tried "The Arcade" and it turned out great. Sylvia was a great hostess and made the experience fun. The group we were with didn't finish the puzzle but it was still a great time had by everyone. I wasn't sure what to expect out of the experience, so when it started out I wasn't sure where to go or what to do. I liked the arcade theme of the first room and being able to interact with the machines. It took me about 15-20 minutes to get fully immersed but once I unlocked them panel to the next room I was completely hooked! I recommend to anyone looking for something to do as a small group. read more

Wooooooooooooooooooooow. I'm not as experienced as some escape room visitors, but out of all the rooms I've done (I think, about a total of 7 or 8), this (Deja Vu) has so far been the most well designed and high tech escape room so far. Definitely ranks in the top three rooms that my friends and I have done. That's not to say that an escape room with low tech would be any less fun, but this one was done very cleverly with the use of technology. Even while we were unlocking something we paused and went "WOAH....." to revel in the coolness of the technology that was being used. The person helping us and making the introduction was very friendly. After bringing us into our room we were pleasantly surprised by all the details in the room. Upon first look we had no idea where the room led to. It was just so beautifully designed, and there was a nice theme going on. We were a group of three persons and definitely struggled a bit in the end. I think more seasoned escapers would be okay with this game, bu we were getting worried if we would escape as we felt we weren't getting anywhere for the longest time (especially with the first lock). It may be more difficult for a first timer if you're coming in a small group (like two or three). The nice thing is one can ask for hints, or if they see you struggling sometimes they will give you a hint when needed through a monitor. Good location and easy to find parking here in Mira Mesa, close to the 805. Can't wait to try out their second room - will be first in line for that one :) read more

Came here at a 9:30 PM for a 10 PM reservation on Friday with Bae and me. We ran out of things to do early, so we ended up arriving SUPER EARLY. Thankfully, Anthony was really cool and set-up the room while we were using the restroom! Parking should be easy; it's located on a third-floor of a business center with ample amounts of parking. Be sure to park in the correct lot (you can see the building number large and clearly) or else you might have to walk around a really long fence! They have one escape room here called Deja Vu. It was really fun for us and the decoration is nice. It's not the most technically advanced room, but I think it's a pretty solid room. We got a couple of hints, so the host is fairly attentive to your needs. There's an option for expert mode, but I opted for the easier (default) option because I had never done an escape room intended for 4-6 people with only 2 people. After escaping with 17 minutes to spare, I would say go for the expert mode! I don't know what the differences are, but you might as well go for the challenge. I believe you can request expert mode when you book the room. I thought the chargers in the lockers were a really nice touch; they got cables for iPhones and for Androids (micro-USB only). I wish other escape room companies would do the same! This is one of the places that don't charge an exorbitant price for a 2 person private reservation, so this was a huge plus for me on our anniversary weekend. I would say it's definitely do-able and fun with 2 people if you're looking for a more intimate puzzle solving party. read more

Did the Deja Vu room yesterday (they are soon adding a second room - arcade theme). I have done a few other escapes rooms prior to this one. This room is top notch! The production quality is excellent and the puzzles are challenging and not too easy. Overall it is a pretty difficult room to escape in the allotted amount of time. I've been to many escape rooms and this one absolutely takes the cake! I would say this is the best one I've done yet. We did the Deja Vu room. One thing that stands out is how much attention they put towards the experience. For example, it is a completely private booking so well worth the money not to be crammed in with strangers! We were only a group of 3 but we solved it with a few minutes to spare! Granted we all love puzzle sorts and from STEM backgrounds so this specific room gave us a slight advantage :P Unexpected and great combination of technology made this room a delight and worth the $35 for my friends' first time! Escape Era was my first escape room! Our host for the day was Alvin and he was awesome and super friendly!! We did the "Arcade" escape room at the expert level, which was super fun. You are given an hour to escape from the room. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll try to just detail what we were told. There are hidden necklaces that add two more minutes to your time. The room has a microphone and camera for the host to hear and see your party. There is also a TV screen which displays your time. If you need any hints, your entire party must wave at the camera, and a message will appear on the TV screen. You are required to leave your things in a locker, which is always supervised by the staff. The lockers have USB chargers for androids and iPhones, which is seriously a nice and thoughtful touch. (Especially since I started the escape room at 5%.) All in all, it was a great experience. Escape rooms keep you on your toes and at a certain level of paranoia! This was my first time, but hopefully not the last. read more

Went as part of a small teambuilding and did the normal difficulty deja vu room. The theming for the deja vu room was strong, this and the fact that each room had one main overarching puzzle to clearly work toward were the strong points. But overall I would say it was just a competent escape room, not bad but nothing special. There're better in San Diego. It felt pretty linear and, for an 8 person room, often felt like there was only enough for about 4 people in our 7 person group to work on. I found myself often on the side just trying stuff out to see if I could miraculously come up with something that the group wasn't caught up to yet. read more

My family of five had a great time doing Deja Vu in expert mode. Even though it was the first escape room for three of us, we went with expert mode since we wanted a challenge. We had a great experience! We didn't quite get out within the hour time limit, but we had a lot of fun. Our game master Long was great and gave us very helpful hints throughout. The puzzles were very creative and well thought out. The expert mode was definitely challenging, but very doable for people that have done prior escape rooms. All in all we really enjoyed the experience and would love to try our the Arcade room in the future. read more

Came to this place after searching which had the highest ratings around town and I'm so glad I came to this place! I came here with 5 of my friends for some fun, and boy did we find it. The building is quietly tucked away in Sorrento Valley and pretty easy to get to. Upon arrival, we were very happily greeted by Zoe and her partner in crime. They gave us the full disclosure and all of the info we needed to fully enter the room we were going to escape from. We had an hour like most folks and that was just enough time for the 6 of us to find our way through the various puzzles (with several hints from the awesome duo up front).
