My gal beat me there and had a drink ready for me. Its a great spot, as its right in the middle of the rotunda, and steps from 4 different gates. We were able to sit there and work on computers while keeping an eye on what was happening for our take off. I should add, service was great and the drinks as well. The bartender was quick with a drink and the check. I'm not sure they have food but you could eat your food at their counter, others were. We rarely make it down to Miami for a flight, but West Palm is usually worth going north to that airport for a flight. We planned a weekend trip to New York last month and with a bit cross checking, Palm Beach International Airport had the best flight based on flight time and cost. It is nice to be able to just walk into a airport that's not crazy at all. within minutes after walking in we are almost always gateside. They have a quick TSA area, and once by the gate there is always spot to grab a bite or drink. This last trip there was a open space bar in the middle of the rotunda where we could see our gate and about four others, so it was easy to time our check grab and getting in line for our flight. We generally fly out of Fort Lauderdale, but when its close to a tie which to go with, we got Palm Beach.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by confusion, disorder, and a level of cleanliness that suggests housekeeping is more of a suggestion than a job. Nothing seems to flow the way an airport should. It's almost impressive how such a simple concept--moving passengers efficiently--can be turned into such a disorganized production. One thing that stood out was the number of adults lingering around the children's restroom area. Maybe there was a perfectly innocent explanation, but seeing it happen repeatedly wasn't exactly reassuring. It would be nice if someone whose job it is to monitor the airport actually... monitored the airport. The staff seemed to have mastered the art of looking busy while accomplishing very little. Customer service felt optional, accountability appeared mythical, and professionalism was nowhere to be found. Congratulations to whoever is running this place. Turning an airport into what feels like a DMV, bus station, and abandoned warehouse all rolled into one is quite an achievement. I'll gladly pay extra to fly somewhere else next time. Established in 1929 as Merle Fogg Field on a former golf course, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood…read moreInternational Airport now serves over 35 million passengers a year, making it the 20th busiest airport in the U.S. My wife, her mom, and I flew a direct roundtrip from LAX to take a week long cruise from the Port of Miami. Miami's airport is less than 30 miles away, and since Delta has direct flights to both from LA, we chose flights that had the most convenient times and best price (which ended up being FLL). It ended up being a good trip. The Navy took control of this airport in 1942 during WWII, and then handed it back to the county in 1946, who renamed it Broward County International Airport. In 1959, it opened its first permanent terminal and was again renamed to its current name. It now has 4 active terminals, with a total of 67 gates, across 8 concourses (Delta uses Concourse D in Terminal 2, which has 9 gates). A fifth terminal is scheduled to be opening soon, adding five additional gates, mostly anchored by JetBlue Airways. The recent closure of Spirit Airlines, though, has put a serious crimp in FLL's expansion plans, with up to 15 gates being empty (though it sounds like JetBlue has swooped in to greatly increase its presence here). There are no lounges associated with Priority Pass at this airport currently. There is a Escape Lounge, available to Platinum AMEX card holders in Terminal 3 (accessible for passengers from T3 and T4); a Delta Sky Club in Terminal 2 and a United Club in Terminal 1. We used the early morning shuttles to get back from the Port of Miami after our cruise, thus arrived too early to the airport to check in our bags (usually 6 hours before departure time, but here it is 5 hours). There was seating around the check-in area before security with good, fast, free wi-fi, with folks like us in a similar situation waiting around as well. Sure enough, we were able to check our 3 bags with Delta exactly 5 hours before our scheduled flight. Getting through security was very easy, with short lines. They do offer Pre-Check (so don't have to take off shoes, belts, or take out laptops), but don't have touchless so handing over your ID was necessary. The airport very much reminds me of the LAX set-up with a horseshoe set-up with one entrance and exit and one-way traffic. The two terminals I saw (2 and 3) have the gates around a circular main area, with shared seating...very similar to how Terminal 2 and 3 are set-up in LAX. Terminals 1 and 2 are connected airside; so are terminals 3 and 4, but going across these sets (e.g. from 2 to 3) requires one to go landside, and go through security again. There is really no good reason to do that, but since I had a lot of time before my flight, I decided to check out the Escape Lounge after dropping off my wife and her mom at the Sky Club. It ended up being worthwhile since going through security on a Saturday didn't take much time. I got back to Terminal 2 in plenty of time before my 17:40 flight. Unfortunately, there was a storm with lightning coming through the area...with active lightning, ground crews are now allowed to work outside meaning no planes could take off. We ended up being delayed for about 2.5 hours, before we were allowed to board and then take off. One thing I noticed during the long wait was the really bad PA system in Terminal 2...it was super hard to understand the gate attendant give information...it was certainly loud enough, but the the speech was very garbled and hard to understand.

Since I visited during the morning hours, they were serving hot and cold breakfast items, along with fruit, muffins, coffee, juice, and water, and the bar opened at 8am. Service was great -- staff cleared plates as soon as you finished so you could go back and serve yourself more without any hassle. I had scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and some cottage cheese with fruit, and everything was tasty. The coffee machines made all kinds of drinks, from espresso to americanos, lattes, and cappuccinos, plus drip-style coffee too -- I enjoyed a couple of lattes myself. The bartenders were nice and efficient as well. From reading other reviews, it sounds like timing is everything here, but I got lucky and didn't run into any issues finding a seat during my visit. I'd definitely stop in again if the timing and location work out!

I had a chance to stop in for the first time and thought it was a really good experience. There are currently 20 Escape lounges in the U.S., mostly situated in smaller to medium sized airports. This situation allows them to not have much overlap with the bigger Centurion Lounges, which are mostly situated in the largest airports. Instead, the owners of these lounges (Manchester Airports Groups) have partnered with AMEX to provide lounge access for certain cardholders. Unlike Centurion, one can bring up to 2 guests on one qualifying AMEX card (in my case, it was the Delta Reserve AMEX, but only if flying Delta that day). Since I wanted to save my dwindling passes to Sky Club for future flights, I walked over landside from Terminal 2, going through security again just for the opportunity to visit. Totally worth it, and not that difficult, either. Like most lounges, the Escape Lounge will officially only allow entry up to 3 hours before one's flight. So I figured I could explore Terminal 3 while waiting for that time to arrive. But this time (maybe because it was a Saturday and it wasn't too busy), the nice young ladies at the front desk let me in a bit early (though they were really confused why I was coming here when I would be flying out of Terminal 2). Once I got in, found a nice couch facing the tarmac (all the planes I could see in Terminal 3 were Jet Blue), and got some food. It was a pretty limited buffet, but had one chicken dish, a simple green soup and a good soup, along with cookies...made a perfectly good lunch. Funny they had the biggest bowl of self-serve salsa I've seen, but really no food that could use it...unsurprisingly it remained untouched. It also has a full service bar, with draft beer from the local microbrewery (Funky Buddha). Made it even a better lunch. It's about 5,000 square feet inside, so on the smaller side for a lounge. It opened in 2022, and has an entrance fee of $45 per person, if not having a qualifying card. WiFi requires entry of PII, so skipped that since cellular service inside the lounge was fine. Used dishes (everything is reusable) were cleared pretty quickly, to open up tables for waiting guests. Ended up spending almost 90 minutes here, before heading back to Terminal 2 landside. Definitely a lounge to get a beer or two if flying out of Terminal 3.

It is members only, so for those traveling and may have arrived early, or experienced delayed flights this is a great place to come hang out and relax.
