We've watched this location change restaurants countless times for the past 35 years we've lived in Palm Beach. It used to be a French restaurant for about 20 years and then kept changing hands with different types of cuisine. I am really hoping that is one of those restaurants that will make it. Our dinner experience here tonight was extremely pleasant. This is a huge restaurant with three rooms and a bar. There's a choice of about seven entrées and several salads and appetizers. We were a party of three and decided to try Pomona because we've never eaten there before. To start out with, I have got to give a shout out to our waiter Liam. I'm a senior citizen and I've eaten all over the world in many restaurants of every size and reputation, but I have never had a waiter as good as Liam. Even in Michelin five star restaurants in Europe . He was extremely pleasant, courteous, personable and ensured that we had a memorable dining experience. Let's face it. The food can be extraordinary, but if the weight staff sucks, then the experience is horrible. On the other hand of food could be mediocre, but if the service is outstanding, then you might overlook the mediocrity . It was the little things our waiter did like in between the appetizers and the salads and the main meal he came and gave us new napkins and changed all of our silverware. I have not even seen this in five star restaurants. He checked up on us frequently, which is something that waiters rarely do in any restaurant nowadays -- they usually take your order and that's the last you'll see of them until it's time for the check. But Liam checked on us frequently and make sure we had water and whatever we needed. Both my husband and I ordered the herb encrusted grouper. It was literally melt in your mouth grouper with some type of sauce that was made in heaven. The presentation was over orzo. I also had a Caesar salad. The third member of our party had the vodka penne. She loves Italian food and she said it was delicious. The portions were so huge that we had to take some home. Everyone in our party also had a Moscow Mule. For the quality of the food and the service this place was very reasonable --a party of three with cocktails, dinner, appetizers, and salad came to $155 before tax and tip. We will definitely return. And here is hoping that Pomona will last because we need a restaurant like this in downtown Lake Worth. read more

This was our first time trying Pomona's Happy Hour. The drinks -- an espresso martini and an old-fashioned -- were nicely priced and well made. We ordered several HH specials: sweet & spicy wings, fish dip, a slider, and the Caesar salad. The standout was definitely the wings -- crispy, flavorful, and delicious. I was disappointed with the Caesar salad. Before coming, we looked at their HH menu online and I was excited to see they made it with anchovies, which you don't see very often. I was really looking forward to that detail. When it came out, there were no anchovies on it. I had to ask our waitress, and when she brought them out, it was about one and a half small pieces. That felt like a miss, especially since it was highlighted on the menu. Food: 3.5/5 The service, however, was excellent. Our waitress and the staff were attentive, helpful, and proactive -- refilling our water, clearing plates, and checking in at the right times without being intrusive. Service: 5/5 The decor was just okay -- there's not much of a vibe or ambiance. Atmosphere: 3/5 One thing worth mentioning: the restroom was clean, stocked, and well maintained, which is always a plus. We came in on St. Patrick's Day and Ronna was a great server. They have a good Happy Hour menu with lots of food selections. Everyone was happy with their meal choices. The spare ribs had a great sauce and were tender as was the short rib entree. We will definitely come back for Happy Hour and try other menu items. read more

First, they open at 11:30am so they are not closed. Yelp has not fixed this after sending them the update. Love their decorations, especially since they waited until after Thanksgiving. The wings were a standout although you only get 4 for $8 so reducing the portion size in half and charging half compared to the regular menu is not exactly a happy hour special. They forgot to include the anchovies to the caesar salad, which was the reason my wife ordered it so we had to ask for it to be added. Fish dip was solid. Drinks were good, not great. Service was great. Waitress was attentive. Not much of an atmosphere, the place lacks an identity. Indoor/outdoor seating. Nice, friendly, neighborhood place. It's also loud- a bit too noisy, especially if you have hearing aids. Our server checked on us several times and we didn't have to wait long for the food. The mac n cheese was the highlight of our meal. My fish of the day came with a generous portion of salad, but the fish was overcooked and chewy. It was a little on tje late side for dinner as the place emptied out we had more of their time. Private space in the back great Bar area and out door and indoor seating. for some of the folks that know the property this is an old redone steakhouse building made to fit this place wonderfully. We had the Tuna Nachos great to share and delicious!! Fried Chickpees with cheetos dust Spare ribs and wahoo ceviche in a yummy coconut sauce and lightly spicy. Entrees where the Frid Chicken With Mac & Cheese which was perfectly done and gluten free. My wife and friends shared the Roasted Beet and Greens salad with candied pecans and feta cream and they loved it. they could have added a protein to it but went with the Smash Burger with everything on it. We came early for Happy Hour (until 6 pm). The bar and high tops in the front room were packed. Luckily, you can also order off the Happy Hour menu in the dining rooms (there are two). In addition, there is a small (open) private room with seating for 8 that is charming. The ambiance is casual. There was a mix of after work folks and some people in tourist attire. It was loud. They could use some more plants between the lounge area and the dining room. My husband's happy hour margarita with salt was good -- heavy on the liquor. I just had a Diet Coke. The kitchen was fairly fast. We got our food just as we were getting our drinks. Liam, our server, was pleasant. My husband got the HH ceviche. It was wahoo with coconut leche de tigre topped with crispy plantain sticks and cilantro. He thought it was quite good. I got their HH "smash" burger and requested the aioli on the side. The single patty was topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle plus cheese. It wasn't really a "smash" burger per se. Nothing special -- so I wouldn't recommend it. We shared a side order of mac n cheese. The shell pasta in a creamy cheese sauce was very good. Folks sitting next to us loved their large pretzel. And said the bbq sauce on the HH ribs they'd ordered was very tasty. I'm glad we went to try them. Having dined here at all of the previous occupant eateries, we were hoping to find good things here. A friendly greeting at the door and escorted to our table through the Packed Happy Hour patrons in the bar area. They have great offerings on the Happy Hour food and Beverage menu. Our server Liam was quick to help and gave us time to look over everything. I ordered a Happy Hour Margarita and the Wahoo Ceviche. Both were quite tasty and satisfying. After reading the reviews, we were excited to try it and came in for happy hour on Monday, which is throughout the entire restaurant. The restaurant was pretty cold, it was only 50 degrees outside, and I kept my jacket on. We ordered the sticky ribs, wings with garlic Parmesan, Smashburger, and mushroom flatbread. We were told the flatbread is not pizza and would not arrive hot. Well it turns out that NONE of the dishes arrived hot, you could tell that everything was pre-cooked and simply plated barely warmed if at all. The ribs were supposed to be 2 but one was a tiny, almost 1/2 sized and probably amazing if it were served hot. The mushroom flatbread was our least favorite...you couldn't taste the mushrooms at all, there were big gobbles of ricotta and lots of arugula, shaved Parmesan, peppers and honey drizzle on yup you guessed it ... cold bread! They were pretty busy when we left, I do wish them luck but they won't last if the food continues to disappoint. read more

This place was absolutely adorable, especially with all the festive Christmas decorations--it really set the mood. They offered several fun, holiday-inspired drinks, and the four of us sampled a few. They were served in cute ceramic mugs, which made them even better. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and everything was impressive. The hamburger was huge and absolutely delicious--cooked perfectly and piled high with toppings. We also tried a giant hot dog that was shockingly big and more than enough for all four of us to share. The fries were crispy and perfectly cooked, and the small bucket of fried chicken was delicious as well. We were beyond full by the end of the meal. Something special has been created in downtown Lake worth. The minute you walk in and get greeted by the staff makes you instantly feel like you made the right decision by choosing this place. There's many choices to have different dining experiences. You can be more social in the bar area with high tops and TVs to watch your sports. The other rooms have more intimate seating and even one private area for a big party. The food was incredible, the drinks were made with love and our server Ronna Mae made our entire experience there perfect! After so many coming and going to and from this space, we were excited to try the latest iteration after hearing some buzz. They seem to have a lively happy hour in the front bar area, but we came for dinner. Staff were friendly, but the place is loud. It's decorated pretty sparsely, lots of fake plants, and noise just bounces around. We ordered a green goddess app, a fried chicken entree and a gnocchi entree. The dinners were brought out after about 15 minutes and the appetizers never came. The server offered it for take out, but we declined. The chicken was tasty and the Mac and cheese that came on the side was good. The green beans were ok. The gnocchi was yummy and rich. All in all, I found the place a bit confusing and uncomfortable. The atmosphere, menu, and decor are not cohesive and it's difficult to determine the theme here. I wish them lots of luck, but I don't think this place is for me. read more

The bartenders are so personable and friendly (Mazie and Avery) and they even went out of their way to find the ingredients to make a drink I wanted to try! There's this thing about pulling the names of dusty California cities as if they're marketing magic. Hollister is a biker backwater. Bakersfield? If you smelled it, you wouldn't eat anything there. Pomona is Pasadena's dusty neighbor to the south, a bit more upscale. This Pomona, yet another marginal restaurant, haunted by the ghost of Callero's Steakhouse, the last successful thing in the building, kind of defies even the better aspects of its namesake, whether it's California, or New York. I love me some eclectic eatin'. Usually, even with a lot of very interesting dishes, there is something thematic. Sassafras runs with its Southern core; Oceana runs upscale new American plates, The Pomona menu here seems more haphazard than hip. It veers from upscale-ish Mario's lite to dive bar for your Dave's and Lilo's crowd. It has a bit of Southern. Then the crispy Asian beef noodles. Likewise the bar menu doesn't seem to tie in well. Perhaps management and the chef need to find a more consistent concept/voice, and then find a better voice for the front of the house than modern hermit-crab. The ambience is slapdash. They stripped down the restaurant again. The cheap thin, kind of uninspiring tables, and all of the live surfaces, walls, windows, and floors, make the place ridiculously loud. We were seated in the second room, where a couple of light duty paintings on what appears to be board that is warped, and a big empty wall with some covers of socket plugs were the primary decor. I understand that this place was launched by someone successful in West Palm. Maybe they just think that blue-collar Lake Worth is low-enough rent to think that the few bits of plastic flowers that are in the dividing wall between stalls of the building were enough to make it look good. Or the flowers sitting on yet another especially cheap table. Get some accoustic-absorbing things in these rooms. Even 3-month Todd figured that one out. Usually, with a craft bar, I can find several things that I want to try. Most of the concoctions seemed to have missing pieces, in the descriptions, that translate into the drinks themselves. Only one kind of vibed, "try me." It had pistachio orgeat. I'm pistachio curious. I tried it. It was dreadful. The orgeat should be smooth. There was a lot of nut debris texture that shouldn't be anywhere near the finished product. Stale pistachio skin bitterness, too. The Library, around the corner, runs circles around this place. Even the bar at the Todd English 3-month occupant of this hole had far better mixology. The two stars are for the servers. They may have short-sheeted every other avenue of this joint, but the owner at least hired kind, good people. As for the food? Usually first on my list. I saved the worst for last. Pretzel looked great! Oil on the outside of a pretzel hot out of the oven? Bad idea. The burn follows you until you wipe off the oil with the napkin. I ordered the fried chicken, since chicken seemed to a core dish on both the appetizer and mains. It might be better called Bruleed Chicken. The crust was so hard that I had to use my butter knife to break it, and it kind of shattered on to the plate, from the breast piece. Inside, instead of a nice, moist chicken breast there was this over-brined, over-cooked, dry stringy mess that literally fell apart as I tried to pull it away from the bone. The green beans? A sodium fest and over-cooked. The "white gravy?" The shallow dish cooled it down to gross, only accentuating the salt. Put out a little bigger cup, and keep the Morton girl and her umbrella full of sodium away from it. The wagyu hot dog was the star of the night. Fries are straight out of a frozen bag. Oversauced always makes me suspect the quality of a meat being served. This one has good meat. So why kill it like this is Dave's? Asking the guest if they wanted their picture taken with it, when ordering it? That was downright WEIRD. Is it an upscale restaurant and craft bar? Is it a dive bar? To me, it's another hermit crab in this black hole of eateries, that hasn't found its footing, in the neighborhood, or its soul. There's an old joke that restaurants can never go broke selling a lot of salt, sugar and fats. This one could. read more

It seems every time I walk Lake street, this place is different. Pomona is the latest iteration. We decided to stop in on a Thursday, early evening. They have an upscale casual ambiance with an airy, South Florida feel. Bartenders are great. Very attentive and expertly crafted cocktails. The menu is rather sparse but there seems to be an item or two for everyone. We had a couple appetizers, ceviche and Salmon Nachos. The Nacho's were delicious, very creative and well made. We didn't have dinner but I'm betting that if that level of care goes into their entree's, they would be great. read more

Our first time visiting since they opened. We only had time for happy hour bites and run as we were headed to Miami for the evening. Plenty of charm as soon as you walk in the door. Greeted not only by the manager but also another (maybe his assistant). We were seated immediately. Our waitress was Isabella and while I am sure they are all great, Isabella knocked it out of the park! Attentive, charming, never once did we feel pressed or rushed in any way. Great experience! This place exceeded my expectations with an interesting menu and positive vibe. With so many unique choices, our group decided to eat family-style and share everything (our server was so accommodating with extra plates!) We started with the guava cheese croquettes, the green goddess dip, and the soft salted pretzel. Sunday evening, place was very quiet when we arrived (6:30 p.m.). Only 1 other guest seated at that time. Drinks: water tasted "earthy" (I was told it is Lake Worth Beach tap water, so the restaurant can't change that.) I asked for any decaf soda they have. None. Ordered a cocktail with blueberries and elderflower. It was just o.k., not flavorful. We asked server a few questions about the menu and discussed that we were in the mood for a salad but also wanted to check out the chicken. We first asked what pieces come with the chicken (white meat, dark meat, how many pieces, etc.) as the menu doesn't specify. Server Pat informed us we'd be getting two fried breasts. We said we wanted a salad, too, so we ordered the Mediterranian Bowl and fried chicken, indicating we'd need an extra plate because we'd each be having a chicken breast and then splitting the salad and sides. One or two other tables came in as we were waiting for our food. We didn't see server again until she brought us our food. The Mediterranean bowl was not a salad at all--full of grains and other things but no lettuce or veggies. The chicken plate came out with three pieces, one breast, a tiny wing and a drum stick. Pat said, "Oh, it doesn't come with the two breasts like I told you" and just put it down. She could have told us before bringing the food out to see if we wanted to change our order, or told the kitchen that she gave the guests the wrong information. She did neither. The Mediterranean bowl was ok but not great and again, lacked the heavy veggie vibe we were going for. Here again, the server could have told us it isn't really much of a salad and steered us toward a different menu item. The fried chicken was tasty and the highlight of the meal was the small bowl of macaroni and cheese that has a nice smokey, gouda flavor. They could upscale that to a main dish: larger portion with a bit of bacon or pancetta, it is really good. We had read prior to going that they had some AC problems. When we arrived there were fans going in the first room (bar area) and we asked about the AC and were told that it was "fixed" in the dining room. When we walked in, it did feel cooler in that room, but by the end of the meal we were sweating. They either didn't have it running cool enough or it just isn't working. Overall the experience was a bit disappointing. Nothing that couldn't be fixed (expand the non-alcohol drink offerings to include root beer, sprite or 7-up or decaf colas), clarify items on the menu (such as what pieces/how many of chicken there are), step up the service so that the server is giving accurate information and checking on guests regularly (especially when it is slow), and get the air conditioning situation squared away. read more

We were seated immediately and given the option of high tops near the (very lively) bar or a table in the back, which we appreciated. The corn fritters were interesting; I liked them, but I wish there had been a bit more guava in the center to really bring that flavor through. The loaded fries, on the other hand, were dangerously good--we could not stop eating them. The gouda mac and cheese was exactly what you'd expect: comforting and solid. We also had the BBQ ribs, which were tender and full of flavor. My husband ordered the Bee's Knees cocktail, and it was done perfectly--exactly how it should be. Some food was very good and some not as good but the best aspect of Pomona was the youthful and friendly staff and really they upped an okay dining experience to a good one. We started with a Pretzel and it was well a Pretzel and except for its large size and nice plating there was nothing special about it. A Smashburger was forgettable and all about the average as were a few appetizers. The best item of the night was the Fried Chicken but while the chicken itself was excellent the coating did nothing to enhance the flavor. Mac and Cheese was very good as were a few side items. My friend and I went on Friday night. Unfortunately we missed happy hour. If you don't make it for happy hour you will pay $14 for a glass of wine. I'm the kind of person that likes two or three glasses of wine with dinner. There's no way I'm paying $42 for wine in downtown Lake Worth Beach when there are plenty of other places that are priced reasonably. We left without ordering anything. I tried Pomona last night first time. Asked my waiter if the fried chicken was good and he highly recommended it. Said it came with two sides. Sat there for 50 minutes while the two sides appeared with a Caesar salad that my wife ordered but no chicken. Found out he forgot to order it. And charged me for the two sides and the Caesar salad. Didn't offer compensation billed me fully. highly recommend you do not eat here. They should've had the manager buy us a drink or take the food bill off. Went last night with family, had reservations for 6pm. It was very packed in bar area and quite loud. We all sat in the back at a round table by the wall. There was a box fan set up next to the table (a/c is still an issue)! It was also loud throughout the dinner which made it very difficult for conversation. Our waiter (red head) was still slow (we've had him before). Also still too long to get drinks. I ordered the steak and it came already sliced!? Why!? Didn't like that.
