Enjoyable level of difficulty, and it definitely felt like time & effort was spent on good puzzle design that lead to plenty of satisfying "ah ha!" moments. This was my second time doing an escape room with them and it was just as great. I love how consistent and excited the game masters are for the groups. We originally booked The Crypt, but luckily our game master Kaitlin went ahead and changed it to The Seance because she felt that we would've had a better time. She was 100% right and luckily we were able to escape!! We will be definitely be coming back. Went here with the extended family: 4 adults, a teen, and 2 kids. Having just watched the D&D movie the night before, we decided to do the dragon quest room, and it was exactly what we wanted. Fun little exercise, with lots of different styles of puzzles. The phone in the room was always there in case we got stuck (and in 1-2 instances where it was actually possibly a mechanical function issue), so HIGHLY recommend you use that if you think you need assistance. We made it out with 2 minutes to spare. The staff was also very friendly! read more

We showed up about 10 minutes before our scheduled time, and since another group arrived around the same time, we had to wait just a bit so the staff could go over the rules with all of us at once. It wasn't a long wait at all, and everything moved smoothly from there. One of my favorite things about this place is their leaderboard system--it adds a fun competitive edge! They feature the top three all-time best times as well as the top three for the month, which definitely motivates you to think fast and try to beat the clock. There were several themed rooms to choose from, and you can tell a lot of thought went into designing each one. I've done about five other escape rooms at different locations, and I have to say--the system this place uses is incredibly well-integrated. The way they handle clues and game flow made the experience smooth and immersive without ever pulling us out of the action. The staff was awesome--super friendly, funny, and clearly passionate about what they do. They actually create the rooms themselves, which makes it feel even more unique and personal. At the end, we were given a stamp card so we can come back and try the other rooms--and you bet I'll be returning to get every last stamp. Came here on a whim with childhood friend suddenly having free time for a day. Had another friend set up to play the seance room the morning of and had our game without a hitch! Avian, our hostess, did a great job explaining everything to us in a short and timely manner and we had a blast solving the problems together! This place is sad. If you have visited Enchambered or PanIQ your experience is totally going to change. Old house with make shift locks, nothing is tech savvy. Does not make sense why you would pay just as much as other escape rooms when there is nothing cool about the room. You could hear everything from the escape rooms. Old coin method where you are constantly putting coins to get hints. The furnitures are like from a thrift store. Sad. read more

We went yesterday and did the ice cream room and it was amazing!!! Charles was very cordial, and helped us when we had some difficulties and even gave us some background on the set up for this location. It was two adults and two children and although we had some difficulty in the beginning which took most of our time when we got to the end we didn't even know it was the end but it was a nice surprise at the end. I went here with a friend on the 19th. It was so much fun. The one we did was the seance I believe A lol it had tarot cards and Egyptian themes which is right up my alley. It was completely dark in the room and we had to use flashlights which was awesome. It made it more difficult though. We didn't make it out of the room but we had so much fun making it into the second room that it didn't matter and we're definitely going to go back because we need to be able to make it out. It was so cool. And the host was very informative and sweet. read more

My friends and I decided to last minute do a escape room (thanks to my impulsiveness). We were lucky to find Escape Sacramento had later bookings (10:30pm), there was one for 11pm. Went here with a group of friends and we had a blast (even though we didn't escape haha)! We did the Crypt room and it REALLY made us think. It was super creative and we were trying not to use the clues, but ended up going for them because we kept getting bamboozled. We will be back to see if we can complete the second half of the puzzle! We completed the Shorty's Ice Cream room. The kiddos loved it, the room was very colorful and well put other. Two things did not function as they should have, but they did give us an extra minute. We tried the Crypt Room and it was really fun and involved. Our guide Katelyn was clear and helped us alot. My only feedback more for the overall rooms is maybe having a microphone in the room because I felt like some of the puzzles we did solve but it was a logistics issue with the locks or unclear on how to perform an activity that was separate from solving it. This escape room brings a unique set of technology to make game play more efficient with a coin system that shows how far along the game the players are in order to give relevant clues. A group of girlfriends and I did the space room. We were told it has only a 25% success rate, with a 4 out of 5 complexity rating. Sadly, we didn't make it out, but I did like the complexity of the clues, a lot of number puzzles. The lighting increased with each puzzle we completed, which has was a neat concept - at least to know we were making progress. (Turns out we had about two or three more puzzles to go by the end.) Five of us had an hour to bust out. One of my friends made a good observation that in other escape rooms, there is often more than one puzzle to figure out at a time, which can engage more people at a time versus having people standing around or watching one or two people figure out the puzzle. I do think there's something to be said for that; there would have been more waiting around if the challenge had the full eight people in the room. Caitlin was a good "host" for the escape rooms and in explaining the rules. She also offered to tell us how the rest of the room could be solved at the end. read more

Fun, not sure what we expected. 1st time visiting an escape room ended running out of time.

As a group of 4, we booked the Seance Room, arrived early, and were permitted begin our experience early. Staff was polite and thorough. The room is dark, so you can't read the worn out lock numbers on a few of the puzzles. I think my biggest disappointment is that the puzzles need maintenance. As noted in a previous YELP review dated 7/11/2021, A key piece used to solve the puzzle did not work. We wasted time trying to figure out this clue. Apparently staff was aware of the issue for a long time, but claim that the owner hasn't ordered what is needed to repair it. So why not provide an alternate method to provide the clue??? The dials on the combination locks are old and worn, so they are difficult to read. I'm thinking replacement padlocks, $10 at nearby Home Depot??? As far as the quality of the game? We ran out of time. We definitely would not have been able to succeed without using all the clues. We've participated in a few escape games in the past and succeeded. This room is labeled for 2-7 people and Moderate Difficulty. However, we were stuck several times. I wouldn't bother putting more than 5 people in this challenge. Based on the quality of the puzzles, I wouldn't recommend paying $79 for 2 people and $29 for each additional player unless the room was properly cleaned and maintained. read more

Fantastic first experience at an Escape Room. Right upon arrival, we were greeted and provided instructions. I had walked a bit in uncomfortable shoes prior and the gentleman behind the front desk was kind enough to give me bandaids. Another employee later came out to give additional instructions. His flat affect and delivery of his speech was amusing. Definitely made it more fun and lighthearted. We waited roughly 10-15 minutes to be let into our room. The worker reviewed the information again and from there we were on our own. My friend noticed one lock was already unlocked, that was a bummer, but also we decided to play fairly and still figure out all the clues to the combination just to lock it and unlock it again. Apparently the worker saw this and added an additional minute to our time. As far as the room decor and objects used in the game go, it felt like an Honors student who tried to create a homemade scavenger hunt. I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were definitely hoping it would be spookier with perhaps some FX (drop some recs if you know of any places like this). But for the price value, it was fine. My friend and I ended up not escaping but we were told we did better than most, and especially with having only two people on our team. The white tokens felt pointless because they only added 10 extra seconds. Walking to the machine to drop in the coin took more time. Clues were fun, you just have to be creative in thinking. The worker explained how to solve some other clues but stated we would need to return to figure out the rest. This was a great experience and I definitely would return. read more

My group did The Seance room a while back. My husband and I are escape room junkies and have done about 15 rooms now in different cities/states. I have to say that we were pretty darn disappointed by this room. Honestly, everything from the puzzles themselves, the clues provided, the atmosphere, and the staff have significant room for improvement. Although I liked the idea, the execution was just not up to snuff considering how expensive these rooms are to do. Puzzles: The puzzles are not fully linear, which I did appreciate. However, the clues were either painfully obvious or impossible to decipher without a hint. There was no in-between and that can be really frustrating for game-goers. The mechanics of the puzzles were also very difficult. The lighting was terrible and the puzzles were clearly old so sometimes locks wouldn't work despite being correct or the paint on things was so badly chipped you couldn't see something important. Overall, the puzzles need some TLC and a rehab of the clues to make sure that they can actually be followed. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is where I was most disappointed. There was no background music or sound effects or really anything to add to the "vibes" or experience. Additionally, the hint system involves flailing your arms and yelling to get a written reply, which really takes you out of the game. It almost seemed like it was too difficult for the game master to figure out what we were doing in the room so whenever we needed a hint, it would take at least 1-2 minutes to get a response. This was really frustrating when the clock is ticking down. Additionally, towards the end of the game we had gotten stuck and the game master actually came into the room himself!!! He didn't stop the clock from running and essentially wasted out final 5 minutes talking to us because he was concerned a puzzle hadn't been replaced and that's why we were stuck. At the very least, he should have paused the game to do this if he was so concerned. We were honestly quite pissed about it because we lost but just a few minutes and we know that the combination of having to wait so long for a hint and this disruption is what cost us the game. At the end, after time ran out the game master wouldn't walk us through the remaining puzzles either so we never got the satisfaction of knowing how things end. That's very disappointing and honestly quite stingy - at the very least you should be talked through the final steps to get to the end considering that these games cost upwards of $200 for an hour of game time. I'm not sure I'll be back at this point and I can't say I recommend doing The Seance. I am curious to try a different one from here as they have such great reviews and maybe this room was not their best, but am hesitant because of how lackluster and frankly unfun our last experience was. read more

Last night, my husband organized this super fun event at Escape Room with co-workers and their spouses. We had mixed crowd of group in a sense some of us have experienced other escape rooms within Sacramento area while other's first time experience. They had no idea what they signed up for. LOL. Since there were15 of us, the owner asked us how we wished to divide the team. To make it a little exciting, he suggested splitting the group based on the deck of the cards. Our feats depended on choosing either red or black cards. Whoever picked the black cards, they belonged in the black group and vice versa for the red cards. It was a fun competition since some of us were competing against our spouse. Unfortunately, the black team won. The red team struggled and we were close but unable to escape the room. The spirits got us.LOL Escape room has 4 rooms. The two similar rooms are called Séance. Since we had two teams , we went for Séance room and in our opinion it was a fair competition. And the other two rooms are called the heist and gallery. Service: The owner was super friendly, energetic and set our mood into competition and into the story line. They provide water on the site. Parking: There are plenty of parking available on the streets and some areas have metered parking. On the street they have two hour parking. Suggestions I wish they would have provided us pen and paper to write down. We were writing on our hands and phone. Also, the room is dark and some of us don't have really good eye-sight, we were using our phones as flash light. Overall, we had an amazing experience and we're excited to go back to try the other galleries. read more

Had a terrible experience. Firstly we are from out of town. We saw good reviews so we decided to reserve a game and book the room that was the most raved about. The first red flag was that they changed our game time without notice so when we all arrived, we had to wait even longer for our game. About 45 min. It's over 100F in Sac btw. I never heard them apologize about that. They just acted very very very defensive. I wasn't coming at them yelling or being rude. I just wanted to know what happened to clear up the confusion. The game room was poorly lit and they gave us only 3 lanterns for our main source of light. 2 of the lanterns kept going out. So rip to us NOTE: I have done over 8 escape rooms before doing this one and this by far was the most difficult and boring one. The main thing we had to open were locks... nothing exciting or unique. There were at least 10 locks to open and we opened 1 cool thing without a lock but it took up way too much time. The puzzles were very difficult to solve just to open locks... so no reward for that. Just leads you to another lock with ambiguous hints and no help to solve the next lock. The hints in the room were barely any help. We asked for a clue and they gave us one we already saw/found/read and they didn't add anything else to the clue that would help us solve it???? So basically wasted a clue... you get 5 and our time was ticking down. I thought oh maybe they can explain what we missed after the game was over. We didn't finish the room sadly. They said "wow y'all did so well. This room has a 10 percent success rate " .......... When we were done, they didn't ask if we wanted a group picture! I was so confused since everywhere always asks if we want a picture ??? And they rushed us out. Every escape room place I've been to explained all the things we missed and the outcome. But they were in a rush to kick us out. They didn't seem that passionate about their rooms or customer experience :( Maybe it was an off day for them and they took their annoyance out on us? I understand we are in a pandemic and I'm always understanding and I never leave a bad review. So I don't understand why this place has so many good reviews when they treat customers like this. The point of me writing all of this is so the business can see how disappointed I am in them and I wish they could treat their customers a little nicer since we were so excited to go. I've been here two times and had a blast both times! Each time I went was for a work teambuilding event and we had 8-10 people split into two groups. They have creative and challenging riddles to solve. Kevin helped us each time I went. He has great energy, is fun to work with and has a passion for the game and watching the teams try to escape. Let me preface this review with this: I have done well over 20 escape rooms in various cities, and have beaten the majority of them. I have not beaten any from this establishment, and it is not because they are too hard. I have done every room this escape room has to offer, and I will not be back when they release new rooms. As some of the other reviews say, some of the clues and puzzles just do not make sense, and sometimes when you are right, the locks dont even work right so you waste time fiddling with the lock. My biggest complaint and I hope they see this because this is cruicial: FIX YOUR CLUE SYSTEM. Most of the clues are usless and tell you things you already know. You need a dedicated game master to watch you and provide personalized clues based on where you are and what youve done, NOT a token system. The token system is great for getting two people to approve to get a clue, but what good is the clue system if its useless? Very poorly done. My second biggest complaint is how you HAVE to go in order. Other escape rooms typically have some things that you can work on without unlocking things in order. In this escape room there is a specific order, and it must be followed to get out. This also relates back to the clue system... they are tracking how far you are with white tokens so they know what clue to give you. My third complaint is that the first puzzle is typically not obvious and you need to spend a clue just to find out what you are supposed to be working on. I have spent over $100 here and I think thats enough... I will not be back. read more

SOOO glad I finally checked this off my bucket list! I went with a group of 16 and we split up into two groups to compete in the Seance! Our reservation started at 5pm but since some of our group was late, we did not get to start until around 5:15pm. If you're worried about friends being late, they can still come in the room once you've started! I appreciate that they still gave us our full hour in the room because we were solving puzzles til the very last second! I also appreciate the time that they took after to explain to us how the last puzzles needed to be solved. I won't give away any spoilers about the room, but I'll just say that things happened just like in the movies! Dun dun dun! I definitely wanna come back and try to escape the other rooms! read more

Comparing this experience to my first one in San Francisco, I definitely had a better experience at Escape Sacramento. The one my group played was The Study. We had 6 in the group and I thought this was the perfect size compared to the 11 we had in San Francisco. Also, I thought the puzzles tied into the theme more, which made it seem more realistic! I also enjoyed that you could ask for hints, or that they'd be provided to you if you seemed stumped, through a monitor rather than have their staff be in the room with you. Located in downtown Sac, parking may be challenging depending on the day and hour. Look for the large key on the door to find the house! They did inform us that they rotate games every couple months, and there is also a rewards system as well. Will definitely be back! read more

Not knowing what the puzzle room is all about, we didn't know what to expect. We came here for a friend's birthday Saturday night and since we had 12 people we had to split up into 2 teams. The challenge we had was "the study". We had one hour to escape and honestly it was quite challenging. Fortunately, I had a couple strong people on our team and we all solved small parts of the puzzle. Teamwork and communication were definitely key in these escape rooms. Our team escaped with 3 minutes to spare! Overall, great for groups and wanting something different to do on a Saturday night. read more

Maybe one star... and only because the "Seance" was a great theme, however this Escape Room is near impossible to figure out.. I think the escape success rate is a lie, also the best time was 20 minutes! I would like to see that!! None of the puzzle clues made much sense and did not help you get along.. we had to ask for a hint very early on to even start the first puzzle.. actually the first 4 puzzles needed a hint! We did not escape, we did make it into the 2nd room and he says we were 80% done. The white "time" tokens are useless, they only add 10 seconds to your time! It takes longer to walk over and put the token in the machine than it is helpful! read more
