I've visited Old Sacramento many times over the last 7 years, and have done many escape rooms. Little did I know that there was such a facility right under my nose. It has an inconspicuous entrance and a very minimalistic lobby. I'm not sure if it is on purpose, but I wish there was a bit more thought put into the areas leading up to the rooms. I usually use the production value of the front to predict the quality of the rooms when I visit an escape room facility for the first time. The gamemaster was very nice and did an amazing job with the intro monologue before we started. It was so much longer than I've experienced in the past, and the fact that he did it all off memory was impressive. Without revealing too much of what's in the room itself, I'll say that I wish there were more puzzles to solve. I caught myself standing around on multiple occasions, and I usually don't have that problem. Nonetheless, the tech behind some of the props and puzzles was cool, and I was absolutely vibing with some of the music. We were able to escape with several clues (thank goodness we used clues) and got a good triple Valentine's Day date pic out of it. Last year during my Ironman Chattanooga went to an escape room for the first time. I found it to be the perfect break or mental break from race mood. So my Sherpa crew found in in Old Sacramento next to the hotel we were staying at. Not only was I blessed with the best teammates. I had mission escape for the first time doing escape room. NEO Escape Rooms have two different stories choose from and each game can have 4 to 8 players. We picked Capital Treasures. 60mins to complete ur mission. I loved the story, challenging, and getting escape done with teammates. Epic! Like mention only second time done escape room. I loved about this experience is it started the second walked in the door. There no lobby or waiting area. U take care little stuff sign up online. Pick schedule available. U buzz or knock on front door. Let's go!! The gentleman lead us on journey before we went in was awesome. He played his own personality, funny, and brought even more good times to the experience. You guys! This place is AWESOME! So lucky to enjoy this on opening weekend. What I love is that it is family friendly, but still a lot of really great and challenging puzzles. I went with my cousin and her two kiddos, 7 & 9 and we all had a wonderful time! All of us solved some of the puzzles and it was just really fun. This was my first escape room that wasn't scary and I really liked the theme of it. The two guys who designed this are Acme and Gabriel and they were super friendly and fun, we actually chatted with them quite a bit. When my cousin called to find out about the ability to have kids there and is it family friendly, they actually updated the website right then to add a discounted kids price. We really had a great time. The location is awesome, everything was very clean, the puzzles are fun, the clues (yeah yeah we needed clues) were unique and fun, and I just cannot rave enough about how fantastic an experience we all had. I don't live in the area, but I know my cousin plans to return with friends and I highly recommend you give it a try while in the area. Our group booked the "Capitol Treasure" room and had a blast. Gabriel was our host and did a great job of setting the scene and prepping us on what to expect. He was very personable and made all of us feel comfortable. The room's decor and mechanics of the set and puzzles were extremely on theme. We successfully completed the room with 12 minutes to spare. I've done 3 other escape rooms previously, although first one at this place. My group of 4 did the Haunted train - there was a spooky creepy element. It was fun, and challenging. We had to 'call the spirits' a few times for help but was able to escape with 1 minute 58 seconds to spare! However, the puzzles did get a bit repetitive. This was also one of the priciest escape room I've been to at $45 per person. Other places range from $30-36. As for parking, they do validate if you park in the parking garage. read more

NEO escape rooms was pretty fun! My friends and I decided to try this room when we were in old sac for an event. We decided it would be fun to go to this one since we haven't. I had seen it a few times and so when we decided to go, I was excited! The room was actually SUPER COOL. It was so interactive that I thought it was so thought out. Never in my life will I go here again, which is sad because I did enjoy the room. However, the experience and customer service AROUND the room is horrid. I got to the NEO escape room about 20 minutes early. It was my first time there, so wanted to give myself enough time to go over rules and all that. Literally every escape room I've been to has a little waiting room, so I figured I would be able to wait inside until the rest of my group showed up. Apparently not. I went up to the door, apparently knocked at the wrong door, and then a woman came out from another door. I assume she saw me on the camera that's in front of the building. She asked if I had a reservation, I told her I did and for what room. She told me that they were working on resetting the room because a light or something in it was giving them trouble. I said that was fine. As she started to head in, I walked forward, assuming I could come inside, but she put her hand up, put on a smile, stopped me, and told me I could wait outside and it wouldn't take long. Tbh, I was taken back because is there no space to sit or even stand inside? Odd. So, I stood outside, where a bunch of bugs had gathered and were flying around. As I was about to move over onto the sidewalk in front of the building, a homeless guy came over and started talking to himself and yelling, so I decided to just stay put and just swat at the little bugs, gnats, I'm guessing. I'm VERY sure that this woman or whoever could see all this from the camera, but I was never asked to come inside. About 15 minutes later, the rest of my group showed up. They greeted me and we exchanged a bit of talk. Then they asked why I was just standing outside. I told them what happened and they thought it was weird, too, but here's the kicker. The same woman came out and asked if they were there for an escape room. They told her yes. She then invited them inside. Tbh, I was absolutely done with the experience because, how come they were allowed to come in, but I was not? I walked in with them and this woman seemed like she was surprised I was with them or something. Now, the place inside isn't extremely large and there were no seats where we were, but there's definitely enough space for, at least, 8 people to comfortably stand... I'm confused why I was told to stand outside. I had given the benefit of the doubt while standing outside, assuming there just wasn't much space inside, but there was definitely space, especially since it was just me. When we got inside, she mostly spoke to them, offered the location of the bathroom, asked if they'd like some water, explained the "light" situation, told them the room would be ready in about 5 minutes. Hmmm, odd because I was offered none of that. Also, that five minutes was after the time we were supposed to start the room. Now, I'm not one to just assume racism in a situation, but the other part of my group did include someone white and it's just odd that they were greeted and welcomed inside almost instantly, when I was left to stand outside for around 20 minutes until they got there. Again, the room was fun and everything, but after this experience, I'd NEVER spend money at this place again. No one could convince me to come back. Like, this happened almost a month ago and, tbh, it still irks me thinking back on it because it was just so bizarre. read more

I already planned on giving NEO 5 stars for their superb customer service (literally the best customer service ever. Really willing to work with my group with timing issues and the like. 100/10 incredible service.) But honestly the room and puzzles were so well planned and fleshed out if I could give more than 5 stars I would. I've been to every escape room in Sac and this is by far the best. The way the rooms are designed, the ambiance, the intricacy of the puzzles-all phenomenal. We did the Haunted Train and I was legitimately terrified the whole time. This spot is a fun place to experience an escape room for the first time. I came here twice with the same group, first time was Capitol Hill and second time was to come back for the Haunted Train. Capitol Hill was for sure challenging and extremely fun. The riddles/puzzles were very stimulating. We did ask for help a few times but hey, if they offer help then take it. We finished this room with a minute and 40 seconds to spare. The Haunted Train was fun and spooky but wasn't enough for how much I paid. If you love finding experiences that make you feel immersed like I do you have found the spot for sure!! The moment you walk through the doors you can see a lot of time and thought was put into every detail. I don't want to talk about it too much so I don't take away any of your experience but just go. Invite your friends, family, strap your kid to your body (we did this with a ten month old) and just have some fun. I did one once as a work function and I'll tell you what I bet you see your co workers as team members after this experience lol. I would make an evening of it and set up a reservation at one of the restaurants near by. We tried to go to Joe's but with Covid they were at capacity for the nigh and didn't think about it. The 2018 Calling All Dreamers winner was a great choice. Future entrepreneurs enter a bid to the Downtown Business Partnership and the winner gets $$ and assistance to start their business. The NEO Escape room is a great addition to Old Sac. This was my fist time doing an escape room and what a perfect time given Covid and doing things within your own family unit. The task was challenging but rewarding as new clues were located. The current room that's open is to break into the Capitol to get into a vault for a valuable item. We didn't succeed but had a blast trying and will certainly be back to try and conquer the room. (No interior photos of the room to retain the mystery of what you will find). read more

We've done both rooms here, and they are really creative and high tech. They are not reliant on combo locks. I'm deducting a star only because we did the train room the first weekend it opened for my bday, and it was unfinished. The final room was covered in plywood, and we finished with over 30 minutes to spare. We wished they had delayed the opening until it was complete. We spent a long time talking with the owners about ideas for finishing up the final room and possible storyline ideas, and it was cool to pick their brains and talk room design. We left with an invite to test the room when it was fully finished, which made us feel better about paying for an unfinished room and never heard back, so we still don't know how the room turned out. That being said, I still encourage everyone to check them out. They have some of the most immersive rooms in the region. read more

The greeting we received was great, the staff super friendly and the room was fantastic! There was a great mixture of the puzzles and lots of steps that kept it engaging. We came back yesterday to try their newest room, The Haunted Train. They did not disappoint! My family and I had a fantastic time. We love the puzzles/obstacles that NEO creates. They are more complex and involved than some other rooms we have done. I also like the fit/finish of the rooms. The rooms look authentic and created with care. The whole place seems very clean as well! (We have gone to other places where nothing looks wiped down.) Our hostess said they are revamping the two existing rooms soon. Capitol Treasure is among the best escape rooms in northern California. My family and I have been to most of the local escape room businesses and numerous others elsewhere, and only one other room we've done compares with Capitol Treasure. If you've been to the nearby state Capitol building, you'll immediately see that NEO Escape Rooms' recreation is impressively accurate: The checkerboard flooring, the door casings, the sconces with the spherical shades--they make the first room look A LOT like the real location, and it definitely adds to the immersion. As for other hypothetical spaces that may or may not get revealed as the escape room progresses... If there really were a Gold Rush-era artifact capable of global destruction held within the Capitol, and if reality more accurately reflected heist movie set design (alas), that artifact would undoubtedly be concealed and protected in rooms just like the ones that follow the first one. This is definitely a high-tech room. There are few standard key or combination locks, and those few fit the theme well. Most of the puzzles involve manipulating the set and props in varied and surprising ways. Every puzzle feels unique. Serena was a skilled and gracious hostess. Her opening monologue laying out the story for the room was perfectly timed to fit the dramatic music cues, and she indulged us in an inordinately long discussion of the room afterwards with surprising patience. This is a really impressive experience at all levels. When friends ask which escape rooms to do in the area, I will definitely recommend Capitol Treasure. read more

Neo Escape Rooms was a great family outing for us! We saw that they were using very safe procedures so we booked a room. During the pandemic they are only allowing one booking at a time, your family has the whole facility to yourselves other than the employees who are masked and keep their distance from you. Their space is HUGE so there's plenty of room for social distancing from the staff and you only see them when you check in and when you leave. They take a huge break between bookings to clean and sanitize the whole space. This is the first room we've taken our kids to and it's perfect for the family! There's nothing scary or inappropriate for children but the puzzles are still challenging enough for seasoned escape room goers like me and my husband. My boys (tween and teen) had a great time but my daughter (7) was a little young and she's not as interested in puzzle solving. The room was well thought out and my husband and I enjoyed it very much! I am looking forward to coming back! My best friend and I have done 60+ escape rooms so we are definitely not new to this. We love the Downtown Sac area and this is in the heart of it so it's a great location. Upon entering they have a cool ambience with lighting and music. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of our game master but she was a younger girl. From start to finish she was really awesome! Very nice and welcoming. They only have one room at the moment because they haven't been open for too long but they are opening a new one next week and a 3rd one probably next year. The room we did is called Capital Treasure and it was great! The puzzles were good and challenging and the aesthetic was great. Felt really immersive and the ending was really cool. No spoilers!
