Awesome place and good people. Did the Egyptian puzzle with a team of 8. Some of the puzzles were complex. Room decor was impressive.

EscapeWorks is awesome!! This is a must do experience and you get to see downtown Denver at the same time! I am from California and have done this before and you will not be disappointed. We did the "Outbreak" room with 11 family members ranging from ages 13 to 46 and all of us had a super great time. The staff is very friendly and answered all of our questions. We completed the Egyptian Tomb room but did not escape. Our group of four was combined with FOUR other people. If you've done rooms, you know that a lot of people doesn't make it easier, it just makes it frustrating! We also had two people who had never done a room, and 2 who were admittedly hung over... It was a very small space for eight people and just added to the confusion and frustration. I think six would have been ok. In the future, we will double pay to ensure we don't end up in that situation again. read more

This was mine and my boyfriend's first time doing an escape room. We decided to try the Egyptian Tomb room and was surprised at how much fun it was and how quick your 60 minutes goes by. For being our first time, we made it all the way to the end and working on the last clue before the time ran out. If you want to save a little money, we bought through Groupon and then made our reservations through the EscapeWorks website. We will be looking forward to trying different escape rooms the next time we're in Denver, as well as in other cities. read more

When I'm on the road, I always check nearby for Escape Rooms and Denver was no different. I've been to escape rooms all over, so here are my two cents: Pros - The ladies up front were very nice. - It's easy to find and they make the waiver process very easy! - Only $25 for an hour! Cons - I could hear the discussions of the people in the other game next to me. I could hear them explaining what was happening in that room, so I woulnd't want to do that room after that. - The rooms. The one I did was very narrow and basically blank walls in an office. Everything was painted on instead of going for immersive sets, which adds a TON. You could see the paint mistakes and patches where someone rubbed the wall bare. - Theming: for our room, we were casually told the "story" of our room which was "well, this happened, so go get out. That's it." It'd be great to have someone enthusatically set the scene or play a video that shows the story. - The puzzles: variety would be good. 90% of our experience was one task made in a way that only one/two people could be doing it at any time. Each portion of the escape had one/two things to do in it vs. a room FULL of things to explore discover. This place is a great idea, but doesn't have much put in to it, based on what I saw. If you're the manager/owner, I'd recommend doing a tour of other escapes rooms to see how much adding story/ambiance can help. Grab a set designer and really go for it. My friends and I did the Outbreak scenario on Jan 15. We were notified there was a problem with the room setup by one of the employees before we started but she said they would notify us when we reached the point where it became relevant. Turns out it was a drawer that would not open because of a magnetic lock. We were unable to complete the room because of this and the employee that came in at the end for debrief apologized and said that it was a mistake on their part and that was the second to last puzzle before escaping. We were told we would be contacted by a manager about a refund because the room was "unsolvable" due to an error in room setup. I have emailed them three times now and they have not gotten back to me or issued a refund. Update: After posting this review I was contacted and offered a chance to do another room for free. I am not from the area so I won't be but the gesture was appreciated. The problem with the room setup soured our experience. read more

"It is better to learn wisdom late, rather than never learn it at all" So goes one of the many Sir Arthur Conan Doyle quotes framed along the walls of an innocuos lobby, in this puzzle box tucked away between Little India and the Bovine Improv Theatre. Escape Works packs five "scenarios" like a Swiss watch, storylines ticking along with the ominous timer greeting you upon entrance. Each scenario involves a brief background on how your group came to be trapped behind a keypad-locked door. Salvation, however, is always the same: exploded around the environment as props with a few red herrings mixed in. As you explore each space, locks appear like boxes in a crossword; four digits, six digits, small keys...suddenly each and every date, time, score and graffiti mark is weighed against these. Slowly the room unravels. Locks click. Keys hit the floor. Permutations are scribbled and shouted. Time slips away. As with any high stakes game of wits, cool heads preval. I had to be restrained by cohorts toward the end, my shouts of the clues being written under our fingernails muffled. Our concierge, Lua, gave us just enough clues in the forms of riddles and video-recorded humiliation to keep our noodles cooking. The climax of our room, which I will leave as one of the many deserved mysteries in this torture chamber of the mind, elevated the experience to one usually experienced through the Cinema of Suspense . Not for the faint of heart, the unimaginative, or the weak of bladder Escape Works brings the experience of puzzler video game into the flesh and wood world. read more

We purchased a groupon for the Escape Works for our middle schooler and friends. The place is downtown which is great for us but make sure you leave time for parking. The staff were super friendly and engaging with the kids. The kids LOVED the room and trying to solve the clues together. There as a little shelf with padlocks where the kids left their phones/money, etc... It was a great experience, well worth the price of the groupon for sure. They all asked to go back again. read more

Had a great time with our 2 children ages 10 and 16. We were in town for the night and wanted to do something other than a movie. The room was challenging and everyone found a clue. Everyone participated. We didn't make it out in time but really enjoyed the experience. read more

Fantastic Escape Experience! My friends and I played the "Beyond the Flower Shop" escape room and had a blast! There were several different types of puzzles in three different rooms. We were each good at a different type of puzzle, and really had to work together to succeed. Really unique storyline. Lidet was fantastic! Super helpful and encouraging, and very friendly. I don't believe my response to the owner's comments to me, shows. I maintain that we did evaluate the business itself by the attendant, and the business model of selling an "experience", in the same way a restaurant sells food, plus ambiance plus service and are rating upon those. The owner felt I did not give his COMPANY a "fair" evaluation because I reviewed our "experience". In actuality Yelp says reviews should "address the core of the consumer experience". To conclude I suggested they have a contingency in the waiver we all signed that would enable them to ask unruly guests to leave, or perhaps put a minimum age limit to those participating, despite the fact the owner views limiting who can play as a bias. It is my opinion, along with the friends that joined me, that OUR experience would have been better had either the attendant been more observant, or that unruly children excluded from the Casino Room. read more

We just came back from OutbreakRoom, it was a great experience, clues were given when necessary just need to fix one of the locks to work perfectly and faster. I completed "The Big Game" at the Denver location a few days ago. I've noticed that a lot of people here have rated the experience highly but it appears that they are first-timers to escape rooms. I am far from an escape room veteran, but have completed several other rooms in the past. Here are my issues with the room we completed: -There was very little variation in puzzles. 90%+ of the puzzles involved finding a 3, 4, or 8 digit number. -The props in the room were of very poor quality compared to any other room I've seen. It didn't appear as if much effort was put into the room or the clues inside it. 5 puzzles involved the same exact "prop" in the room (I'd give more detail but don't want to ruin the game for others). -Other rooms I've been to have had purpose-built, unique, and VERY fun puzzles to solve. This room really just felt as if the creators threw a lot of information into the room and hoped that the information in and of itself would make for a fun experience. -Overall, the experience and "realism" of the game was by far the worst I have ever personally experienced. After we left I found myself apologizing to the rest of my group for my recommendation and we immediately made plans to go to another room that is up to a decent standard. Even at discounted Groupon prices, I will never return to this location and instead would recommend Conundrum Escape Rooms in Arvada or the "Fort Collins Escape Room", both of which were absolutely excellent! If you came here and liked it I STRONGLY urge you to try another room at either of these locations and you will be blown away! On the plus side, the staff were extremely friendly, they gave clues at the appropriate times (without giving too much away or making things too easy), and the location is great for a night out for dinner downtown and an escape room afterwards. The uniformly challenging puzzles had good variety, and the props were fun. Clues were provided when we got stuck. Brought a work group here for a team building activity and all enjoyed it. We were in Casino Heist and Egyptian Escape - well themed rooms with a variety of different types of puzzles and clues. We did the escape room A Christmas Story. Definitely a must do. They did such a great job making you feel you're in the movie. But they don't make you put soap in your mouth. Amelia was a fantastic host, she was helpful when needed and made us feel comfortable. Selena was also great!
