My group tried the Batman game with a Groupon. We had 7 people in my group and won with 4 minutes to spare! The puzzles and questions were difficult but we had free 3 hints to use without time penalty. All additional hints cost 2 minutes. It was disappointing that they don't let you take any photos of the actual Batman room, not even a group photo in front. They don't provide any group photos or props to show that you won, but gives everyone a regular wristband that says Batman at the end. read more

A ton of fun! We did the Scooby Doo room, and we managed to get it done with 7 minutes to spare. I felt that our game master was great at providing hints and nudging us at times when we got very stuck. It made sure that we weren't frustrated but also still challenged fairly well. There were a ton of secrets that made up a good mix of straightforward and challenging. Can't say much more without spoiling it, so I'll just say that we're looking forward to trying out other rooms, especially the Batman and Murder on the Orient Express one! read more

the first time we did this escape room at night, our game master was so helpful & friendly & we enjoyed doing the 7 deadly sins escape room! she helped w/ our questions afterwards & gave us a discount code for our next visit. i enjoyed the first time we went here, so i used the discount code for our second visit & our visit wasn't great because of the game master. we went during the day time & our game master forgot about our game even though we checked in & when we asked questions afterwards, she wasn't the friendliest when answering it saying that maybe we should have listened in the beginning when asking about a lock. we just wanted to know about the lock, but her tone was not welcoming. i wouldn't return due to this experience. read more

I was super excited to try out another escape room in the Bay! For the next upcoming weeks, you can book the rooms at a discounted rate. I also noticed that Monday-Wednesday nights are a bit cheaper for anyone looking to save a few bucks. Escapology is located inside Stonestown on the top floor next to the movie theater. The waiting area looks really nice and is pretty spacious. I didn't get a close look, but I think there might be some puzzles for you to solve on the walls. All bookings are private bookings and I believe they accommodate groups of 2-8. I personally felt like the rooms can be a bit small (at least the one I played - Scooby Doo), so I think a group of 4 works well. A party of 8 would be way too crowded. The technology was not too shabby and I liked the decor. However, there were some buggy experiences that we felt cost us some time. *WARNING: possible spoiler alert?* In my experience with other escape rooms, you generally only obtain one key at a time and subsequently use the key once per lock. However, with this game, we got 2 little keys on a key ring and didn't notice until we were nudged in the right direction. Also, we found a lock that didn't require us to mess with it and fiddled about until our game master prompted us to leave it alone. I think we're used to the style of other escape rooms where it's not just all keys and lock combos. Regardless, we enjoyed ourselves and are curious to see how the other rooms hold up. read more

Some of the best (but expensive) escape rooms in SF! A couple weekends ago I went with my friends to this escape room and It was pretty expensive (around 50 dollars per person) so we had high hopes and it did not disappoint! The puzzles were doable but challenging at the same time and you get an unlimited amount of hints if you are stuck. If you go with friends it is really fun and depending of the escape room you choose, there are some minor jump scares and exciting clues. Now, me and my friends try to go more often because it is amazing and I'm pretty sure we get a 20% discount if we go again. We also got cool wrist bands after! My wife and I played the Pirate Curse game today. We had previously played the Train room and had an overall good time, so came back for the Pirate game. We got to the room and they play two videos about the rules of the game and some of the fiction of the game. We've been to this place before, so we weren't paying attention, and had started gathering some of the obvious game pieces that were lying around. The first video was maybe 3-5 minutes. When the second video (with the story) started playing, I saw that there was a line of small text at the bottom of the screen that said something along the lines of "watch the video or there will be a time penalty". So the two of us stopped what we were doing and watched the rest of it. When the video stopped, the time was down to 45 minutes instead of the standard 60. We missed at most 5 minutes upfront. That was pretty upsetting and pretty much ruined the rest of the experience for us. The room was one of the hardest ones, and since it was two of us, we'd have had to go fast to solve it anyways. At no point did they say anything on the intercom. As soon as I saw the small line of text, we stopped playing, and watched the whole second video. I found out afterwards that their intercom was broken. I would have preferred if someone even came to knock on the door and tell us. Or just said "your time has already started, your final time won't count". I don't care about setting a record, we just wanted to have a good time with the puzzles. The complete lack of communication and then taking 15 minutes off our play time feels pretty punishing. We've played probably 30 escape rooms in different places. Any time there's a mandatory video, they always have you watch it before you go into the room. Once the guide leaves you alone in the room, the timer always starts right away, and you start playing. There was no upfront communication about their special rules. And then they treated us so punitively. The room itself was also much worse than the Train room. The music was too loud, so it was hard to talk and think. The room was very dimly lit, and there was only one lantern, so we could only look at one clue at a time. The writing tablet's string connecting the stylus to the tablet was too short, so we could only write on half the tablet at a time. One of the clues led to the wrong lock (the clue led to the Diamond lock, but the lock was actually the Clubs lock). Some of the clues didn't work and weren't lit up. At one point we were stuck on a particular puzzle, and hit the intercom for a clue. We're used to being able to talk to the game master and getting the smallest hint necessary to move on. We asked a question about our puzzle, and instead of giving us a clue about it, they gave us a big clue to a totally different parallel puzzle. No one talked to us (probably because the intercom was broken). They just flashed the (unrelated) hint on the screen. The two puzzles were both available, and there was no reason to need to finish one to start the other one. read more

Honestly this place will take the fun out of the experience of an escape room. You know the place is bad is when you see the windows task bar on the screen. Warned them about an up coming windows update and got ignored. So the game halfway shut down and the poor game master had to keep running back and forth when we asked for a hint. Hints given to us aren't personal but basic copy and paste from a prompt. When you can't figure it out and re-ask for a better hint they give the answer to a puzzle. I've been to the fisherman's wharf location and it's basically the same experience. Just underwhelming and subpar. If you like rooms breaking down on you and unhelpful hints this is the place to go. read more

Went as a party of three to the scooby door escape room and there were a lot of hiccups with the room no working or the game master was simply not paying attention. There were multiple puzzles where the correct solution just didn't work and the game master didn't notice anything out of the ordinary and we also received clues that were not relevant to the current puzzle so in all it was a very frustrating experience. I will say we have been here before to the orient express room and that one ran much more smoothly. Not sure if it was a poorly maintained room and a distracted game master but scooby doo was not a great experience. read more

The room was not set up properly causing us to lose a lot of time. Further, we correctly entered codes but their system did not register our correct entries. All in, we lost time, and that deteriorated from the experience. The place looks high end for an escape room, but don't be fooled. When we addressed this with the staff, they just shrugged their shoulders and were dismissive. No offer for a refund/replay was made and I will not be returning to this business. read more

Terrible experience, would give it 0 out of 5 stars if I could. We were about 15 minutes into it when we were informed by an employee the TV had become disconnected and that we would have to immediately stop the game. We asked for clarification on how it happen and they said it was one of us who unplugged it and we needed to leave. We were confused and asked if we could see proof of it, they said they had no video evidence to show but that we needed to leave. Very disappointing that kicking us out was the only option. They did offer us to reschedule however most of us were from out of town and leaving the next day. Terrible communication and experience overall. read more

We booked mansion murder (9/10 difficulty rating) and it was very fun. Had a lot of trouble with some of the puzzles but thanks to our amazing game master, Ashlee, we were able to solve it all and escape with 2 MINUTES!!! left to spare. If you have nothing to do on a random Wednesday night I highly recommend coming by and checking out their escape rooms. Planning to come back for 7 deadly sins on a future date. read more

In all honesty after doing 80+ escape rooms I can confidently say Escapology is one of the worst thought out ones. It seems they don't understand how escape rooms work?? None of the puzzles connect together to further your progression, some times something you need for the very last room will already be in the first room just to like waste your time. Some of the puzzles that involve filling blanks don't match the theme ie pirates curse. Idk about you but most escape rooms don't relay on you having any outside knowledge but for some fcked reason Escapology does. I've done 3 rooms here at this location and each time the game master is either giving out the wrong hints ( aren't there cameras in the room to make sure you give us the right hints??) or just straight up telling us the answers. If you only want to play one escape room just for fucks and giggles then yeah waste your money here. read more

I made a reservation for 6 people on a Friday weeks ago, we were really excited to get started on the escape room for my partners birthday. We started in the first game room and about 10 minutes in we were told by the Manager on duty, Evelyn that we had to go because one of us intentionally disconnected the TV. We tried discussing the matters of our group's termination of the escape room regarding to which one of us specifically "disconnected the TV" in the room but there was no additional detail given to us. Evelyn just stated that it was done intentionally . We wanted some more concrete information on the process that led to us getting kicked out of the room, but we were left in the dark. I wish the discussion was much more transparent with us, rather than just getting kicked out of the room with little to no reason. I wished the game master or whoever was in charge of watching the game room to be more communicative with us regarding what was off limits in the game room rather than rushing us through the introduction of the escape room, since it was the first experience for most of us who wished to have a exciting and subversive first experience. Very disappointed with our reservation. I explained to the group coordinator that I was looking for a team building activity for our girls volleyball team. she asked me which room I wanted and I told her I didn't know because I have never been to an escape room. She made her recommendation and gave me the times that they were going to start and said because they were a bigger group unless I wanted the VIP package for fee. I said yes because I don't want them to be split up. Since I made the reservation for the girls and two coaches I was not the one to check in but my daughter said they were split up. When I spoke to the representative she claims she told me the rooms could only accommodate 8 people. She NEVER once said that to me because that defeats the purpose of team building. I know for a fact I would have declined the reservations because the goal of this event was for the girls to work together. Needless to say it was a disaster and not at all what we were expecting. It was a huge let down. read more
