There are two different escape rooms in the Ocean City area and this is, in my opinion, is the more laid back establishment. What is interesting is that with the laid back atmosphere, this place still delivered. What set this place apart from other locations is that you get to watch the instructions in the lobby before you enter the room. I feel this made for a better experience as we weren't crammed with our heads pointed upwards at a screen. We chose the Poltergeist room by looking at the website. We had no prior knowledge of the room, but it sounded fun to do. Once we got done with the instruction video we were led back to the room. Given a few reminders of the instruction video and set free in the room. What lacked here was the unenthusiastic interaction from the staff. I understand that they probably get bored a lot, but there was so much monotone in the voice. Once in the room, we kind of went through the motions and slowly figured out puzzle after puzzle. If you are afraid of the dark, this might not be the room for you, as you start in a nearly dark room, and it is a small, one room escape room. If you are a fan of Ghostbuster, you definitely need to try this room. The satisfaction you get from solving puzzle after puzzle and, if you are lucky, the final puzzle definitely gives you a feeling of accomplishment. However, if you are stumped at any time throughout the timeframe, you will hear a knock on the door and a clue will slide under to guide you along your way. Some things are kind of oddly put together, but some things, you might be able to skip on through. We kind of did that on a few things and ended up with almost ten minutes to spare when we completed the room. If you complete the room, they offer to take your pictures. And they post it to their Facebook page within a few days. read more

Doesn't look like much from outside in a strip mall but immersive room for the Black Sails Lost Treasure. Room was an 8/10 difficulty and with 2 people we had to get a few hints (we were close but missed a key item that threw us off) Puzzles on floor on walls in cubbies and tables, and At least one puzzle type that was new to us. More than 1-2 lock types too which made it more fun ... directional, letter combo, number combo, key, magnetic locks, we loved the magnetic lock ones putting things in right order and a door popped open very cool! This place's decor was higher end feeling than the other company in OC (we did that one the day before and glad we did it first or it might not have felt as fun with only like 2 Lock types and minimal decor) read more

Escapeomania is GREAT! My family and I have done nearly 100 escape rooms and consider ourselves "seasoned veterans". We did the "Black Sails" room here and absolutely LOVED it. It was challenging, engaging, fun, and VERY family friendly. The props and gags are of the highest quality, and the staff were incredibly friendly and supportive. They WANT you to succeed, and it shows. The cost is reasonable for the level of experience they provide as well... which, in the escape room business, isn't always the case. We were in town for a pickleball tournament and it was extremely hot so look for an adventure inside to do. Didn't get the young man's name in the uptown location but I've got to say how much we enjoyed this experience. Four seniors from 63 to 71 inexperienced at this kind of thing but it was fabulous. We now have a very enjoyable memory from this and mostly it was the young man running the escape room. So much fun a must do! read more

This was our first visit to an escape room and we had no idea what to expect. Our host warned us the room we chose was the toughest one but the 4 of us weren't deterred. She gave us directions and tips and locked us in our room to begin solving our puzzles. It was so much fun! The four of us worked together and our host came in to help as needed. We didn't solve all of the puzzles in time - our host was right that the room was a tough one - but we didn't care. Our host showed us how to solve the remaining puzzles and she was so nice! We did the Black Sails escape room and had a great time! We had a group of only five but were still able to escape the room with two minutes to spare. Our only complaint was that several different times, we attempted a correct action (I won't be more specific since I wouldn't want to ruin the game for future players) but nothing happened at first, and the staff would have to slip us a clue telling us to perform it again. I've done other escape rooms and haven't had that happen as many times at other places. If it weren't for this small detractor, I'd give Escapomania five stars. We really enjoyed our 1st Escape Room experience at Escape Room OC. We were a party of 4 and we were join by a family of 6 that we didn't know, it was the best time! My husband who was hesitant in the beginning was saying by the end "I'd do that again!". I want to give this two different stars for two rooms - the Black Sail's Adventure 5 stars. We had a group of 6 last year and had a great time. Sherlock room I'd give a 3. We had a group of 9 (same original 6 plus 3) but we found it didn't have a good flow of clues. We felt we opened some things too early which led to confusion. We were slipped clues and towards the end of our time the door popped open. We were expecting to head to a second room because it ended so abruptly without a logical conclusion. Nope, that was the end. Without giving surprises away, we expected to have to solve the crime and determine which suspects were responsible with some items provided in the room but that never happened. My friend and I went a few days ago and did Mad Scientist Lab. It was AMAZING it was like an 8/10 and you needed to solve in 45 minutes and we were done in 38 minutes. I'm so spoiled because I've been to many escape rooms before that were extremely well done. This wasn't the worst escape room that I've been to but very far from the best. We choose the Sherlock Holmes experience and with a group of 4 I found myself standing around at times because there was nothing for me to do. I'm used to more interaction than that. Some items in the room we not working so a worker had to come help us, in addition in the beginning she went over the instructions once we were in the room so fast, that we had no idea what we were actually supposed to be doing. We still aren't sure if we were supposed to escape or if we were supposed to find out the killer. We still don't know and we wish we did know. Once we were done, we were just let out to leave. We wished we had time to ask questions or find out while we were actually there. It is still a fun time, I would come back but there are some kinks to be worked out. read more

Went on a girlfriend getaway weekend. There were 10 in our group and it was everyone's first time. We did the Sherlock Holmes mystery and it was a challenge! Definitely required critical thinking skills and teamwork. This was the hit of the weekend, EVERYONE enjoyed themselves including the one's that were apprehensive of an "Escape Room". Worst escape room I've been to. My boyfriend and I have done at least 12 different ones on our own, and we've done about 5-6 with other family members. This one had no flow, no logical reasoning, and the clues were pretty much pointless. When our time ran out, we said to the cameras, "I guess we're done." We said it again....nothing. We opened the door and they said, "OH!" like they forgot we were there! Bottom line (after doing so many of these): not a well thought out game, no flow, and WAY overpriced! $30 for a horribly thought out room? No. If you're in the area, drive the extra 15 min down to rehobeth beach...15 bucks all the time---weekday or weekend---and very well thought out games and great staff! Don't waste your time here. We thought this was AMAZING! We have played Escape Games all over the place and we all found this one to be exceptionally great. If you are new to the escape room genre, all I have to say is please try it. There is nothing scary at all about it. It's basically a room with a bunch of theme appropriate props in it and you have to figure out how they go together and solve puzzles to "solve the mystery" in under 60 minutes. I can't give details because I don't want to give anything away! It's SOO fun! We played the Pirate Room and I think the decor was creative and the puzzles even better. We did manage to get out in time and it was very fun and very thrilling. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for family fun on vacation or a rainy beach day. 5 stars isn't enough! read more

Escape Room tries to create a real-life version of puzzle-based video games such as Myst, Riven, and The Room. The concept sounds awesome: You're locked in a room with 1 hour to solve a series of puzzles and riddles to find the prize and get out. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver on the fun factor for a number of reasons, and charges you at least twice as much as it's worth. First, the decor. My wife and I selected the Pirate's Treasure Room. The description on the website evoked images of "Pirates of the Carribean." I expected an ornate set, wood-planked walls, maybe a pool of water or something. What we walked into quite literally looked like a dentist's waiting room that had been decorated for a child's birthday party with thrift store finds and dollar store toys. It's an 8' x 10' room with regular painted sheet rock walls and carpet. It looks exactly like every single windowless office you've ever been in, which is not exactly what you want to see when you're on vacation. There was a laminated treasure map scotch-taped to the wall, a vinyl jolly roger flag, and puzzle boxes that were locked with plain old master locks. An utter disappointment that provided absolutely no immersion whatsoever. Second, the puzzles. They're not in the least bit difficult. Some word games, a few riddles, and trial and error with keys and locks. My group only needed 22 minutes to complete the room, which roughly works out to $1/minute per participant. Speaking of which... Third, the group. For the pirate room, they book up to 8 participants at a time. The room is barely even big enough to fit 8 people in it. And if you don't book up the whole room, the empty slots will be sold to other people. My wife and I ended up getting stuck with another couple and their 4 young children (all under 9 years old). The kids ran amuck, rushing to solve all the puzzles themselves. We hardly got to participate at all. So basically I blew 50 bucks to watch someone else's kids have fun for less than half an hour. The takaway: This is Ocean City. You've got beaches, restaraunts, movie theaters, mini golf, amusement park rides, the boardwalk, a musuem... there are literally a thousand better ways that you can spend your money while you're here. I highly suggest you avoid this tourist trap and spend your money on something you'll actually enjoy. read more

I've experienced two rooms at the OC Escape Room: Pirate and Asylum. I much preferred the Pirate experience the best, and we happened to "escape" with 13 minutes to spare... but I decided to come back for the Asylum and although we didn't escape, I was less impressed with the room. Was very fun and challenging. A little bit pricey, but I would say it was well worth it and I will probably return next summer. Would definitely recommend. The descriptions online made it seem a little scary or creepy but it was just a room fitting to the theme of the puzzle. I'm not sure if they have a restriction to group size but I think 7 or 8 people would be reaching too many and would hinder your ability to solve the puzzles simply because of organization reasons, at least for the room we did (the office one). Anywhere from 1 to 7 people would be appropriate and anymore would be doable but crowded. read more
