Insane that there is not a single sign or warning about this anywhere and then you're left with a whole cart full of items and dirt but you can't checkout? They planted three new trees I bought there and left the root balls wrapped in burlap which has seriously stunted their growth. I am now paying a couple of hundred per tree to have this fixed! So get someone else to plant them!!! read more

I can't recommend Escazu enough. We needed a whole row of arborvitaes and the ground prepared for them. Efrain came out to take a look at the area to give his best recommendation and gave us a price no one else could beat. My wife and I then went to the nursery to pick out the exact shrubs we wanted, and they came to install 2 days later, and they look amazing. We are so happy with Escazu's work. A pretty large nursery when lots of options. I came here to check out some arborvitaes and flowering trees. Not to be disappointed, they had lots of options. The benefit I see here is the trees are much more mature than what you would get at a Home Depot. On top of that, there are lots more unique options that what you would get at a big box store. As you would expect, the higher quality and larger trees equates to a higher price. If you are looking for more established trees, that this is a viable option. Alternatively, at least for arborvitaes, you can get younger trees at a cheaper option somewhere else. The nursery deals with lots of landscapers and open to the public. With that said, it is not done up like a customer store/nursery. The aisles are driving paths for trucks and there are lots of divots and uneven surfaces. Also, don't come in expecting lots of customer service. Again, this is a wholesale nursery for landscapers. read more

When I have a bad experience, I tend not to leave reviews. I never want to bad mouth a small business. But my experience at this nursery was so bad that I'm making an exception in this case. I went her 32 weeks pregnant and very obviously showing. I went there for soil for repotting a peace Lily I'm going to split and a hanging basket. 1. No greeting. The woman at the cashier stand when you enter was on the phone and held up her finger and looked away when I waited to ask her where the soil was and if they sold decorative pots. 2. I walk to where the structure is to look for pots on my own and two employees are sitting there planting and trimming flowers. I asked for help and neither spoke enough English to help me. 3. I found the type of soil (weighing about 20 lb for two bags) I was looking for and was going to buy it. The only type of cart they have is a wheelbarrow. So the same two employees watched me, very clearly pregnant and struggling, load the soil onto the wheelbarrow. No attempt to stand up or help in any way. I push the soil over to the cashier (I gave up on the pot and basket). Keep in mind the ground is uneven and it's very difficult for me to do so. Now the woman on the phone informs me "it's cash only" before even asking if I found everything ok (I hadn't). I didn't have the cash and was so fed up with the "service" that I just left. Avoid this place like the plague unless you know they have exactly what you want and you don't need customer service. read more

Today, Escazu was advertising $1 trays of annuals. Wasn't planning on going, but stopped anyway for the deal. Would not have stopped otherwise but went in and spent the time going through everything in the hot sun. Got to the cashier with 2 trays, and was told it was going to be $28. The cashier explained that their definition of 'tray' is not the actual meaning of the word tray, but was referring to each individual packaging unit as a tray. So they lied and are falsely advertising. Never going back. read more

The worst. I've been going to several nurseries in the area and never have I had such an unpleasant experience as I had here. There's this bald guy who works up front who has no desire to help anyone here. We had asked for trees and some suggestions and he has absolutely no desire to help us and if I asked for him to show me something, he was just lazy and sat in his little booth. It's like if you're in that industry, then get up and go show people some trees. When we asked him about one we liked he was like if you don't like the price go elsewhere. Just wow. I mean I've never encountered so much attitude and unwillingness to help in a retail environment. When I asked him about the owners information he refused to give it to me making it seem like he's impossible to find. But the owner if you ever read this you should think about who you hire to SELL your trees, etc. We were willing to spend over $1000 on trees etc, but your absolutely rude and arrogant employee turned us off from any possible business. This obviously doesn't go against the employees who actually put in the work to take care of the trees at the nursery and to the nice ones who plant the trees for people. I'm a firm believer if you're not happy at your work place, go somewhere else so you don't aggravate nice customers who are willing to spend their money. read more

Covid-Friendly shopping experience. Be prepared with your check book, no credit cards here. Escazu has a vast selection of plants and trees. I went there today, specifically looking for evergreens, at a manageable height. Most nurseries carry only 8 foot plus trees, not only are they frightfully expensive but also not easy on your back for DIY planting and transporting. Escazu had various sizes of spruces, including healthy 3-4ft ones. Their prices are extremely competitive and service was great. Mike Schlesinger initially showed me where trees of interest were and set me up with a personal landscaper, Juan(iirc). He was patient and provided expert recommendations including planting materials to go with our trees and shrubs. I recommend you give this place a try. This is not a place for landscape design, it's where you buy plants, shrubs, and trees to fit a design you already have (without costing an arm and a leg). I'll update this review after delivery, hopefully with good things to say. read more

This is a hidden gem for most of your garden needs. The rocks and boulders are the best deal here. Then soil and mulch are bargain priced. Plants, flowers, bushes, and trees seem to beat the competition too. You just need to pay in cash or check. And this is not a fancy store. I came back here this weekend to buy a pair of yews to replace an old, established one that decided to die over the mild winter. I'm glad I came here once again. I thought I'd just grab one and leave. Well, as I walked past the flats of flowers, I remembered I needed some for containers I was doing. Then by the time I got to the yews, I realized there are different varieites and even shades of green and foliage density. Home Depot can't offer that! The shrubs looked healthy. I chose a lighter green shade of foliage to contrast with the ones I already have for an interesting mix. At $45 each, I think their quality makes them a bargain. read more

Do not buy here. The manager (Efrin) is a liar. I purchased a very expensive ($800) white pine from here. It was to come with a 1 year warranty and include planting. Later that fall, the tree turned brown and the needles fell. Efrin said this was normal. The tree didn't look right. It appeared to have died. Efrin said to wait until the spring and then call him back. I did. He then didn't honor the warranty. I've had to call back multiple times and he has only been rude and finally told me he'd have to ask the owner and they'd only give back $400. All I wanted was for the tree to be replaced. I even said I was going to purchase another tree from them. He said he had an incredible memory and I never called him. I've talked with him 3-4 times. Don't waste your time purchasing here. The other bushes and trees I purchased from the local big box store are doing fine. I was able to find a landscaper in my neighborhood who charged very little to plant them and didn't give me the crap Efrin did. Stay far away from this business. read more

We bought 7 large Green Giant arborvitae to use as a privacy fence. Escazu had a huge selection of various sizes and excellent pricing. They walked us through their inventory making suggestions while keeping our budget in mind. They always followed up our phone calls and kept us informed on delivery and planting. I highly recommend. One word of caution, they take cash or checks only but you can pay them on the day of delivery. A very positive experience. read more

Too bad I can't give them ZERO stars. They shouldn't be in business. I saw too many reviews that they don't honor their warranty and the trees died in a few months, but we still gave them the benefit of the doubt. That was a HUGE MISTAKE. We spent almost $5,000. They transported and planted them and almost 90% of the trees died in a few months. When we asked them for the warranty, they wanted to charge us another $2,000 for the transport and planting of the replacements, plus no warranty on the new ones. This is RIDICULOUS. I hope that people learn from others' experiences and AVOID this business. read more

Great place, ask for mike when you arrive. He took us out on his golf cart to get from place to place which was very helpful and he was extremely nice and had a great sense of humor. Escazu has a great selection to choose from at the best prices I've found compared to any other nursery in the area. Employees were all patient with us and helped my wife and I at an efficient pace. We brought my newborn along with us, he absolutely loved riding on the golf cart and afterwards getting to see all the awesome trees and flowers. read more

Remember that Trees plant free does not include shrubs. Check out their warrantee on plants/shrubs they plant. If the plant dies you are going to get hit for 50% of the original cost plus planting and delivery. They took advantage of the fact that I was not home when they came to "replace" dead shrubs and plant hostas. They had to remove the remains of five burbury bushes and charged my wife an additional $75.00. The "professionals " that planted 40 plus giant hostas 12-14" on center (recommended 24" apart) and advised my wife that she would need more plants for the second bed. We recently had a professional landscaper come back and replant an atrium with all plants and shrubs replaced at no charge. You should get what you pay for but don't count on it from Escazu. read more

Spent over $2000 there and they won't replace a tree that they planted that died. Only gives 50 percent credit and wants a delivery fee. Once I get my 50percent back, I will never shop there again. Tough to get answers to questions and the shrubs that I bought there did not even come close to the quality I got from another nursery. The shrubs I got from another nursery easily thrived while theirs struggled and took a lot of care. My landscaper even commented that it seemed that their roots seemed to be in sand versus soil. read more

There's a reason the prices are cheap, and a reason they only take cash or check. This is the no-frills discount third-world airline of nurseries. Great selection of stuff that is left out in the elements over winter, isn't properly covered or protected, and has severe winter burn. Trees planted free is a lie. Only the largest, most expensive trees are planted free. Everything else has a charge. Expect delivery & planting scheduled? NO WAY! Your "window" for delivery is a few days and you are expected to just wait for them. When they don't come, you call and get a woman who blows you off and says they'll call back with a schedule. They don't call back. When you call back AFTER the window you get the same woman saying the manager will call back. He doesn't call back. I think it's funny looking at glowing reviews for this place that were posted in the middle of winter when they aren't even operating! There's a reason it's cheap, and they take your cash up front. Purchased several trees and set up a delivery time. Trees were not delivered - we were not called. Called seven times to finally be told they were backed up for two days and could not deliver - would be following weekend. Following weekend trees still not delivered. Were told the driver did not show up for work - maybe following weekend. Called on 3rd weekend and we were not even on the schedule for delivery. Told they could not tell us when the trees would be delivered. Asked for some timeframe and were told they could not tell us. Maybe tomorrow but no guarantee they would call us back. Manager has been extremely rude and told me they have so many clients, if we are not happy - it doesn't really matter. What type of customer service is this and how can they stay in business with this work ethic? It that is how they feel about their clients, why shop there? read more

I went to several nurseries to replace boxwoods that didn't survive the crazy harsh winter. I was so happy that I discovered Escazu. Their prices and selection of healthy bushes far exceeded the other places that I had been to. I also purchased 6 large rose bushes that have been blooming beautifully all summer long. I searched for mulch quality & price around the Northwest suburbs and Escazu was one that looked great and seemed like a deal. After delivery I now know why they're price was so low. Escausu didn't deliver the right amount of mulch. After I neatly made a pile I could measure, they shorted me about 1/2 -1 yard of mulch. I contacted the nursery and talk to the manager. He tried to convince me it was the right amount, but I wasn't buying it. I said, bring me the right amount and I'll order from Escazu again next year. He said, forget it, and I'll send someone to pick it up. The driver arrived alone and I was shocked. The guy looked to be about 65 years old and no additional help came with him. He hand shoveled the pile into the truck and said, it didn't look like 3 yards to him. I felt sorry for him, offerd a drink and sent him on his merry way.
