First of…read moreall, I eventually found out that this place is investor owned and anytime you have that it is all about the mighty dollar and how cheaply you can run it. We placed our mom in the facility based on prior experiences, albeit a few years before that, from her friends. We checked in on a Saturday which they knew in advance. The room key didn't work, the locked drawer in the bathroom key didn't work because the drawer was broken. The bathroom sink faucet sprayed water all over the place when turned on. The marketing representative met us and gave us the key. There was never a nurse to check in and evaluate our mother as is per protocol when arriving to an assisted living facility. Out mother was total care needing assistance to do everything and we were paying top tier level fees and an "additional" fee on top of that as the points exceeded the highest tier. Never mentioned during signing. The handbook had no info on wi fi hookup password or even a menu. The front desk person, who was eating at the desk, didn't know or who to ask. Over the course of the next week we were there every day because staff was not checking on her every hour as we were paying them to do. The care aides were called, even with us sitting there, and it took them an hour to arrive. Then the request was made for the medication that had to be managed and she had to notify the med tech. That took another hour. By then the next medication was needed and resulted in more delays. Took two requests to get the nurse; not sure if it was an RN; to come evaluate my mother as you would expect. Also to complain of the lack of care as promised. Food brought to the room was placed in a bag. Our mother needed assistance to open it and they just left it. Care giver was asked to do bathing and they had to leave and go ask a supervisor. How is this not noted? Caregiver wouldn't move commode from bathroom to bedroom. A caregiver answered during the night and told my mother that she was the only one for two floors. Another one was 7 months pregnant and the only one at night and couldn't do any lifting at all. We over heard on entry two employees talking in a break room while we waiting by the elevator. One said he would never have his family here. And then they saw us and tried to retract what they had said. Not great when you were in the middle of moving the furniture into the facility. No care plan was ever transferred to the chart and the nurse came back the next day due to illness. Who was covering for the nurse out sick? No care plan given to us in writing. Asked repeatedly for copies of the documents signed prior to arrival. Ability to reach the director was close to impossible. Phone calls to facility sent us to voice mail with no call. eventually was able to find the email contact via the California department listing. We stated we were taking our mother out of the facility for her safety on that Friday. Never able to speak to her. We felt we would lose our 30 day minimum notice fees but it didn't matter as all we cared about was her care and safety. Eventually they gave us back all of the entry fee and rent/fees/care fees minus the one week that she stayed there. I WOULD NEVER TELL ANYONE TO GO TO THIS PLACE! In fact I have told people to tell other people. I don't know how people can sleep at night knowing what goes on in their place of employment. How can they work there? I know of people who had issues as well that I won't go into detail here. I am sure you can call the state and find all of the complaints that have been lodged against them.

The staff has been wonderful, everyone is so friendly. My parents are making new friends and enjoying their new community. The move in process was very detailed, the River's Edge staff was very knowledgeable and walked us through every step. They have shown us nothing but respect and were very transparent about everything prior to moving my parents into the community. I completely recommend visiting River's Edge if you are looking for a great assisted living community for anyone.

According to publicly reported court records and news coverage, the facility was previously involved in a wrongful-death lawsuit involving a 100-year-old resident who wandered outside from memory care and later died from hypothermia. A Sacramento jury reportedly awarded significant damages to the resident's family. Information about that case is publicly available and worth reviewing when evaluating the facility. Separately, my family had our own experience with the facility while my aunt lived there for nearly two years. During that time, we personally observed several issues that concerned us. At one point my aunt experienced a fall in her apartment and, based on what she and our family were told, she remained on the floor for several hours before assistance arrived. Afterward, there was still visible blood on the flooring that, from what we could see, had not been properly cleaned. Two months ago my aunt suffered a stroke and had to be transferred to a higher-level care facility. Her partner still lived in their two-bedroom apartment, so rent continued to be paid while we worked through the transition. When family members returned later to collect my aunt's belongings, we found that the bathroom had not been cleaned since she left. There was still waste in the toilet that appeared to have been there for an extended period of time. Seeing that condition was very upsetting for our family. There were also communication issues with administration regarding the required 30-day move-out notice. My father was initially told by a staff member that the notice had already been handled, but later the acting administrator told him it still needed to be submitted in writing. This created confusion and additional stress during an already difficult time for our family. While we were at the facility removing my aunt's belongings, we had an uncomfortable interaction with a staff member. The tone of the interaction was confrontational, and during the exchange I was called a derogatory slur referencing my sexual orientation. That experience was extremely upsetting and not what anyone expects when dealing with a facility responsible for caring for elderly residents. Throughout the remainder of the time we were there, several staff members came by repeatedly while we were moving items, which made the situation feel tense and uncomfortable. Based on these experiences, our family ultimately decided to move our loved one to a different facility where she could receive the level of care she needs. Every family's experience may be different, but ours raised serious concerns about cleanliness, communication, and professionalism. For that reason, we are also submitting our concerns to the appropriate California oversight agencies so they can review the situation. Choosing a care facility for a loved one is an important decision. I strongly recommend visiting facilities multiple times, asking detailed questions, and reviewing public records before making a choice.

The apartments are roomy and staff is friendly but overworked, i am sorry to say to report this but I think people should know the reality behind the glossy brochure. Bright and airy, tastefully decorated, the Winding Commons Senior Apartments are where I'd want to…read morelive when I become unable to live on my own. The grounds are beautiful. There are nice seating areas outdoors and in. In the main lobby is a WII, which was being used as we toured. I was impressed with the number of residents that were out an about and friendly and engaging. Other senior apartments did not seem to have as many happy residents. Only two meals are served each day, lunch and dinner, with a limited selection of choices, but apartments include a full (albeit small) kitchen. Apartments have a nice patio or balcony. There is only one elevator for the entire facility, which seems like a potential hazard if the residents on the second and third floors have mobility problems and need to be evacuated in an emergency. Hallways are covered with smooth industrial (though tastefully patterned) carpet. Apartments however, are carpeted in a deep plush. This makes it difficult for residents using walkers to maneuver in their own apartments. Winding Commons is owned by the same company as Campus Commons Senior Apartments. Winding Commons is the better of the two.

We frantically began trying to find her a spot, but it was hard because of her somewhat unique care needs. When we toured Aegis, we were skeptical. Without exception, the recruiting/admissions staff roll out the red carpet no matter what facility you're considering. They engage with staff during your tour, hype up the longevity of their employees, brag about the extensive amenities provided, answer all of your emails and calls immediately. Unfortunately, as we discovered at Atria (review pending), that treatment can end abruptly once you sign the contract and write that first check. But not at Aegis. Here, that excellent sense of security and care you get during your first tour is something they obviously strive to maintain. And it shows! After a full month at Aegis, all I can say is that I'm more impressed every day with everything, from the grounds to the staff to the food to the activities. Even the admissions coordinator continues to assist us and answer every question we have. The staff is happy, even if you're not touring. Someone comes in to check on my mom no less frequently than once an hour whenever I'm there, usually twice. If it's not the pet therapy, medication management, snack cart, or other scheduled thing, it's someone popping in to ask mom if she'd like to go to dinner or an activity, or simply if she needs anything. It's clear Aegis takes pride in its facility. It's well-maintained and concerns are promptly addressed. If the person who'd normally take care of it is out, someone will be there to try to fill in. The difference is night and day from the last place. For example, at the prior facility, we were only able to arrange transportation successfully about three times. The remaining fifty or so times, they ignored us or gave excuses. At Aegis, I had a last minute request to get mom a ride to the dentist and their response was "Don't worry about it. We'll make it work!" The grounds are well-kept and the facility is clean. Plus there's an adorable fluffy white dog that lives there and lots of times is just cruising around greeting folks. Aegis feels more like a giant shared house than a hospital, like some other places do. Many residents leave their doors open. It feels safe and I feel good knowing my mom is in such capable hands. Finally, they make extraordinary efforts to get to know you and your whole family. Some staff actually take notes about conversations with residents and families in an effort to personalize every single experience. I don't know how, but Aegis seems to have perfected the art of residential care. I cannot thank them enough.

She lived in Merced with my dad (married 55 years) and he suddenly passed away. We had to hurriedly find her a senior residence closer to me or my sister with the 24 hour front desk, pull cord in the bathroom and pendant to wear around her neck to push a button for emergencies. Eskaton has all that and more! My sister also lives very close by so the location was perfect. Let's start with Joey, the first person I spoke to on the phone who runs the entrance area/front desk - he had no idea who I was or what we'd been through and he was just the friendliest kindest voice ever. He needed to transfer me to Latoya to inquire about apartments, but I already had a great feeling about it just because of how Joey treated me in that first interaction. Then Latoya was also extremely friendly, empathetic and more than happy to take the time to go over in detail how Eskaton works, which apts were available, pricing, and emailed me floor plans and the Eskaton calendars with meals and daily activities. She was glad to reserve the apt mom wanted even before we could get paperwork/deposit back to her, being out of town and at this time still dealing with my dad's passing, his service, packing to move...they both made a terrible situation into an exciting and welcoming new start. Tristin was next, helping to formalize paperwork and just the sweetest kindest person. They answered all my million questions and Latoya took a video and pictures of the apartment so mom could plan and feel more comfortable about the move. My mom LOVES it here. The place is classy and decor is beautiful. I'm jealous of her adorable apartment! The residents make a point to chat and say hello in the hallway, elevator, dining room. She loves all the activities - seated exercise classes, Ted talk viewings, live music, libraries on 2 floors. Most of all she feels very, very safe and welcomed. The food is delicious and we eat with my mom all the time. They also encourage (if people want to) to sit with others in the dining area. My mom right away started off with a nice group of women including her neighbor across the hall. She enjoys the social aspect of the meals. Often she is very busy with activities and doesn't have time to call us! Helen in the dining room is wonderfully sweet and so fun to talk to. She seats you and comes to every table to say hi and chat for a moment, which we love and I think for those who choose to eat solo it's nice to still interact. At Eskaton you're never really alone, there are friendly staff and residents everywhere. Toni in housekeeping is also friendly and kind and does an amazing job, my mom loves talking with her and seeing her weekly. My mom's apartment is always super clean and fresh thanks to Toni! Tom and Roberto who do all the repairs/hook up cable/hang pictures are so sweet and funny...my mom always talks about how they helped her decorate and they even put together a new walker for her so she didn't have to wait to use it! Recently, believe it or not, my sister actually started having stroke in their lobby!! My mom called it and yelled to Joey they needed an ambulance, he called right away and this is the whole entire reason my sister will make a full and fast recovery. The hospital said it's miracle-it is!! I want to also call out Matthew, Ellen, Daniel, Minayah, Arsel as just so sweet and wonderful. They have helped us out multiple times with literally everything. The building is super secure, the residents are watched over carefully, it's just perfect. I will also share that my mom has only been there 1.5 months and already this is our impression.

(They have performed here before and it was a great success.) The coordinator never returns calls or messages. I never received word back, even after leaving my information and contact number and a voicemail several times (at the desk as well). It is really disappointing to not be acknowledged, have no communication whatsoever and a disappointment for my students not to have an opportunity to play at this time. Staff does not have appropriate training and there is terrible communication skills. Managers do not encourage and do not support their team towards quality work or having proper resources to do thier job properly. the marketing and the executive director too busy riding in their tesla putting up a front and saving face, yet cannot be professionals and respectful to be a good example for staff or other managers; let alone focus on the issues at hand. Priorities right!!!!????Definitely Incompetent! Always short staffed, residents waiting over an hour just to use the bathroom. Residents falling a lot, which results in injuries where family has been suing this place for couple years now. Rumors about building being shut down/ sold out which is a concern for job security/ lay offs. The owner and executive director bluntly denying it, and lying to residents and familiesno wellness director (nurse) in the building. care givers sleeping instead of actually care giving. medtechs are overworked: expected to care give without extra compensation or support. kitchen staff expected to care give, again without any extra compensation or proper training. family members yelling and cursing at staff especially medtechs regarding concerns that managers should be handling. some care givers sitting around on their phones majority of the shift, not working properly or working as a team. Care director does not manage the department well, instead blames and puts more responsibility on other staff (kitchen and medtechs). the medication department is terribly functioning (if you could call it that) without a manager. Working in this community is highly toxic, mentally draining and physically unhealthy and demanding. if you're sick, managers don't care, they will demand you to still work and expect you to find coverage for yourself. doesn't matter how much notice you give for request time off, don't plan on any vacations, your requests will be denied without any reason or acknowledgement unless you are kissing up. This community doesn't acknowledge, doesn't respect good, honest hard working staff. If you're friends with the managers/ kiss up to one or all of them than you will be rewarded, Otherwise you're going to be very unhappy and miserable at this job; which barely pays what you're worth.
