Let me just start by saying that I am picky AF with my nails. I live in Los Angeles, the land of movie stars and the fanciest salons on the planet, and I still come home and reshape or repaint my nails. When visiting my family, I usually stay long enough to need to get my nails done. No matter where my sister has taken me, regardless of how nice the salon technicians may be, I am never satisfied with the sub par work they do on my nails. My sister and I walked into Essence Nails a couple of years ago before they were under new ownership and they were so nasty to us, we walked out furious before they even finished our nails. I vowed NEVER to step foot in their establishment again, but my sister informed me that they now had new owners who were great so, I decided to give them a shot even though I usually get a lot more stuff done than my sister does. (And she isn't as picky). I am so glad I did! Hana and Tony are super sweet and fantastic nail techs. Hana did a great job on my powder gel nails and Tony gave me one of the best pedicures I have ever had. I highly recommend making an appointment ahead of time because they are the only technicians there. The fact that I left the salon actually happy with absolutely NO complaints says a lot about the quality of service I received, because as I stated before, I am picky AF about my nails. not very happy with the pedicure! so it was my first time I said I wanted to fill in and a gel polish pedicure, and no real massaging. Definitely not used to that . After the pedicure was already started, I found out that fills are by appointment only. How do I know that I would have scheduled both for the next day . so I got my pedicure and made an appointment for a fill for tomorrow. i took my socks off and three toenails no longer have polish on the same day... they literally came off fully like it was peeled off. Very disappointed to spend $84 and not have three toenails polished just several hours later and no real foot massage. It will say, though, Tony and HANNA have the most awesome personalities. I usually get my nails done about every 6 months or so- so not very often. Essence used to be my go to because they were amazing and my gel nails always lasted forever. I went 6 days ago and my gel nails have already peeled off. I counted the time they spent massaging each arm- it was 8 seconds. Also, when they told me to go wash my hands, there was no hand soap, just AWFUL smelling hand sanitizer, no paper towels and the trash can was overflowing. I came at 12 on a Tuesday and there was one other person in the store so it's not like they were super busy. Overall I was so disappointed and I won't be back. I had a manicure done with nail polish applied, not only was the work subpar, but the polish came off the same evening, which was Saturday evening, when I call the next day the woman tells me why didn't I call in the morning, did not even offer to repair or correct their shoddy work. The woman told me their lacquer is new and will not chip, well not only did it chip, it came off on 3 fingers! Don't bother going to that place, they are very dishonest in how they do business, they lie and don't stand behind their work. I will never set foot in that place. read more

The craziest thing happened to me at this nail salon. Kevin's wife did my nails and the day she did my nails, it so happened to have been her birthday. She and I talked about past birthdays and she mentioned that she never gets anything for her bday. When she was done with my nails, I went down the street to Kroger came back to the nail shop and surprised her with a bday cake. It's been a while since I had been back and I will share one of the reasons I was hesitant about going back after I share what happened today. When I walked in, his wife was ready to start on my nails. Kevin later came down and I spoke to him. I noticed he wasn't his normal cheerful self. He kept talking about a shirt and he turned around and looked at my shirt. I wholeheartedly had no idea what he was talking about... he continued talking about a shirt with this very serious and angry look on his face. Then he walks down to where I was and show me the photo he took of me and his wife when I bought her the birthday cake. He started pointing aggressively at the t-shirt I was wearing that said " black lives matter". He went on and on about the shirt and was literally getting on to me about the shirt. I said excuse me! I said Kevin I am sure you are very aware that black lives matter is no offense to absolutely anyone. Well when they are booked out, I tend to go up the street to nail envy..There so happen to be a black nail tech. I don't specifically request a black nail tech, I am okay with anyone of them doing my nails but she was available this day. I shared with her that I normally go to Essense nails down the street. She then shared with me that one of her friends who is Asian told her that Kevin was hiring. She said she and her Asian friend goes down there together and the moment Kevin saw that she was black, he acted as if he didnt need help. He was no longer hiring. Her Asian friend knew then that Kevin was being racist, apologized to her and was so embarrassed that she put her friend in such a situation. The black lives matter t-shirt thing all made sense. I have never felt so devastated because i dont have a racist bone in my body. During the pandemic with all of the police brutality against blacks, they came up with the black lives matter movement.. Absolutely, not to say, no one else lives matters but black lives matter just like anyone else's. That day when i left my home, i grab the first tshirt i saw. I didnt even remember what i wore that day when i stopped in there to get my nails done and was generous enough to want to make his wife day by going and getting her a bday cake. I had no idea that very tshirt would offend anyone unless they are racist.​ I've been emotional all evening but definitely wanted to share my experience. This is such a huge deal! Finally a nail salon that is reasonably priced and does a wonderful job! I was a walk in & was taken care of right away. A gentleman brought me a cold bottled water and I sat down with Tiffany to do my nails. She was quick and efficient but my nails came out flawless. I asked for coffin shape and a medium length and I'm so happy with the outcome. From the shape, the length and the color I'm so in love with them and will definitely be back! The BEST! I had a botched full set at another shop and came here today for a fill in. I called ahead a time to make an appointment and they had availability within the next hour and a half. The shop itself is in a convenient location with decent parking. I loved the fact they had a receptionist because I hate when a nail tech doing nails has to stop to answer the phone. The shop is under new management and even though they have done a lot of upgrades. The service was horrible, my new set was done incorrectly ( a few of my nails started lifting in a week and my nails were very uneven) I tried showing my manicurist the imperfections s couple of times but he refused to listen. The owner has a price set to start but up charged me for the length of my nails even though I had my nails cut down short.Smh I was never come back the shop. So I've been coming here for a bit, today was my fourth appointment! I usually book with Kevin (the absolute best and here's why!) and he always outdoes whatever I've asked him for. However, in the spirit of Halloween I wanted to do a bloody splatter on a white base! Not only did he do exactly what I wanted and better than the pic I showed, but I came home and saw my nails were GLOW IN THE DARK! I am hands down, the happiest I've been! I showed him an inspiration picture and he had my acrylic on, filed and shaped in 12 minutes, he even helped me pick out corresponding colors to the picture to suit my skin tone. Beware, majority of their pictures they stole off of google search. am pretty disappointed at my experience here. It was my first visit and was excited to try them because their reviews were great and the pictures looked wonderful. I literally spent 2 hours for SNS. I showed them a picture of how I wanted them to look based off a picture that THEY posted on their yelp page as if they could make it happen. They absolutely failed. The woman doing my nails had to get another lady to coffin shape my nails which she did by using nail clippers. That was a first for me but I tried trusting the process. She made them too small for my liking even after I explained how I prefer them. She tried to finish them with them discolored. I let her know I don't like them and one of the men came to me to fix them. He did an okay job. Now today, a day later, the discoloration is still happening and some even now have bubbles. The colors don't even match what I wanted and they advertised. I went back today and spoke to the man who fixed them and let him know I was not satisfied with my nails. Showed him the imperfections, showed him that they look nothing of the picture he himself told me he posted. The lighter color that continues to discolor, I told him I dis not want that color any longer and he said that he would only redo them with the same colors. I told him again I do not like the color, it's discoloring and it is not the color as the same as what he put up. Then tells me oh well that was gel polish and that SNS is shiny. I've seen matte SNS that look great. Mine unfortunately don't. Anyway, so now he wants to tell me that it was gel but said nothing of the kind when I asked to have it done the way he claimed they could do. They said they could do it. That if I wanted to do them all 1 color, he would charge me again full price and he would only redo them with the same colors that I hate. I asked to just have the lighter ones done to the darker color and he would not do it without charging me another $35 that I just spent the night before along with 2 hours of chair time. Definitely lost a customer in me. I went back to give them the opportunity to rectify their mistake but here's a lesson. When you have a good nail tech just like how men have a specific barber, never cheat on them. You get burned in the end. Now have to go back to my nail tech and have her fix this mess. read more

I went to this place few times. Every time, they will have new staff. The new staff skill is very bad. It can take couple hours to just get manicure done. Sometimes could be more than 2 hours. If I could leave 1 star I would. Kevin was extremely rude & rough with nails. He called my daughter weird because she told him her nails were not long enough. He then took her nails off and told her she could not go to any other nail tech in the salon. I'm not sure what type of owner runs an establishment where he feels comfortable arguing with a child and getting upset because a person is not happy with a service or getting mad because a customer is telling him he is being rough and he continues to be rough. I've never been brought to tears by a nail appointment before but there is always a first! I won't get into all the details of what happened exactly but I was ignored the entire time. It was my first time at the salon and I did not have an appointment so I knew I was going to need to wait. Once someone finally spoke to me I was told to come back at a specific time. I was on time and had pictures ready so I was prepared. I was ignored when I tried to show anyone the picture and was given palettes to choose from. I wanted sns, which I made very clear, and was handed gel palettes to choose from. Kevin (the owner) yelled at me in front of the entire salon for choosing the wrong polish (that was not labeled) and then proceeded to rush through my nails and grind my nail bed down so far it started bleeding. I have never been treated so bad anywhere in my life. Please do not go there. read more

I am never the one to get into it with somebody but this was the worst experience I have ever had. I showed Kevin (THE OWNER) a reference picture and I told him how I wanted it from the BEGINNING. He got the shape wrong but that was something I could let go of. Then he just started doing whatever on my nails and that's when I reiterated what I wanted and he said "why didn't you tell me" and threw his brush and started to take off the design. Not to mention he was throwing insults my way and laughing like it was a joke. Then he started doing the design again and it was just not looking good. So I said I didn't want him to keep going cause he was just not getting it and he got mad and was saying it was my fault that I'm too picky and saying I was wasting his time. I just told him to take the design off and I'll go somewhere else. I was walking to the register after he was done and he yelled at me that I needed to pay. Zero stars! I've been coming here every 3-4 weeks for over two years. I specifically asked if they'd redo my nails at no cost because he did a horrible job. After paying $70 the first time for 6 nails to have extra pained designs, my nails looked horrible. So I come back to get them redone at what I was told no charge. To then be charged $45. Had I known this, I'd have gone somewhere else that does better quality nails instead. After being a loyal customer for over two years, I will not be returning. I had to leave my last salon which I had been going to for a year & a half because of the damage to my nails from the excessive drilling. I waited two months before I decided to try Essence Nails. No regrets! When I arrived I was greeted promptly. I stated that I would like a pedicure and full set and was directed to the color choices. There was only one additional customer in the salon, so I took the gel sample rings with me to my pedicure chair. After choosing my color, my pedicure and nail set were conducted simultaneously. The set up is nice, chairs are comfy with massage remotes, there is a television, and spa music. The salon is clean, all licenses are posted on the wall, and they have wi-fi. Even though I chose a mood gel and matching toe polish, I noticed they have a lot of essentials to provide trendy nails. If you happen to be a woman/man with a derrière larger than a stool (I do!), the chairs at the dry station may be uncomfortable but you can always dry in the pedi chairs. The pedicure was immaculate and very relaxing! Overall, I am very happy with my service. I will be returning!!! I went on a Thursday at 3:20pm and was done by 4:30pm. read more

This place seemed promising, but was ultimately extremely disappointing. I never got the chance to actually get my nails done here, which I was very excited about. The first time I tried getting a full set here, I tried calling to set up an appointment. I called 3 times before giving up because no one would answer. I decided to just go in and see if I could be seen. Upon arrival, I was asked immediately if I had set up an appointment. I politely said no and explained that I tried to call, but no one would pick up. The guy disregarded this and told me I could've only been seen with an appointment, or I could wait for 4 hours there. I decided I'd try again a different day and figured they were just really busy and deserved a second shot. A couple days later, I called again. Someone finally picked up on the second call. I scheduled an appointment for 6:30. I arrive 10 minutes early, just in case. The man, the same one from my first visit, asked me if I had made an appointment this time. I told him I had for 7:30. He told me I wasn't on the list and that I could come back the next day. That was all. I don't see myself ever returning here or recommending it to anyone, which is super disappointing since my girls and I have been looking for a new nail salon and were really excited about this place. None of us will be returning, unfortunately. If you're a regular here, maybe you're the only ones who get respected and served here. If not, stay away. read more

I've been going to this nail salon for almost two years now and I would only let Kevin do my nails. I've noticed he could be a little snappy and rude but I've just brushed it off since I loved the way he did my nails. The first problem I had with him was when I had to call from a blocked number to set my appointment up cause I was a couple minutes late to a previous appointment DUE TO TRAFFIC, & I called stating it was traffic so I'd be late. When I got to the store he laughed it off and unblocked me. The last appointment I had was March 30th, I went to get my nails done and I was a bit sleep deprived , however I still made it to my appointment early. When I showed him the design , he got upset because none of the flower options he had matched what I was going for . I ended up having to settle but at that point he was having a attitude. Then he started speaking his language and the others that understood him was giving me a look. After paying AND tipping , I was blocked. This is just the worst customer service I've ever experienced . And I'm mad at myself for still giving this business soooo much money (service and tip) after being blocked the first time. He's now telling customers that if you make an appointment and is late (regardless of what it is) or gives him any issues during service , you'll be blocked . He needs to learn how business works cause with his distasteful attitude no one is going to want to come here ! I will now find someone who has great customer service to do my nails moving forward. I honestly wanted to give 0 stars but to write this I had to give this salon a 1. I got my nails done here 2 or 3 times before and the service wasn't so great but the nails came out fine so I wasn't upset about it. I got my nails done a week ago and I got acrylics. My last set lasted me a whole three weeks but this time I was opening my car door and one broke, I was looking for something in the sofa and another broke, I picked up my phone and another broke. I called to do a repair and was going to get them fixed in 3 days. Throughout those days all except one nail broke. When I went in, the man that I think is the owner came up to me and accused me of lying and said I had clearly "cut" the nail and started saying "don't do that again", I showed him the pictures I had took on the spot of them breaking and you could see the crack in my nail and the fractured piece. I wasn't going to keep it like that because I had to sleep that night and it was super sharp so I filed it to make it not so sharp. I've always been hesitant to go to salons to get my nails done cause I'm never happy with the results and I've definitely never been a regular at any salon. But Essence might've changed me. I came in on a Sunday before a holiday work party (basically the only reason I was there) cause two of my nails had chipped. I went in with my mind set on acrylic but my nail tech, Charley, told me I should do SNS instead since my natural nails were still pretty (besides the two chipped ones). She put tips on my chipped nails and did the SNS and took the time to grind it down so it wasn't super thick and bubbly when the nail grew out. She did an amazing job. Highly recommend her! read more
