The best! Found Mayes Mental Health and Wellness online and it's been such a good experience. I've…read morebeen going there for almost two years and I always feel good after my appointments. MMH&W (Mayes Mental Health and Wellness) really provides a great experience, especially with all the stigma and possible scariness that can come with seeing a psychiatrist. MMH&W is kind, helpful, easy to book an appointment online, very current with technology (email reminders, text options, virtual appointments, etc), they have a clean and calm environment in the physical office, and I quite enjoy the ease of their virtual sessions. Dr. Mayes is the doctor I see in the office and there aren't enough positive adjectives in the world to describe her. Sometimes medical providers are cold, they don't listen and judgey (if that's a word), but not Dr. Mayes. She's warm, inviting, and safe. It's like talking to a wise friend. In my 30 years of experience seeing hundreds of doctors due to a chronic illness I have a lot to compare MMH&W to. Here are the categories I judge when seeing doctors and how I feel MMH&W stack up: Staff: Non-doctor interactions have been good. There have been a few hiccups but compared to all my other doctors who have terrible front desk people MMH&W is great. Overall experience is a 9 (1-10 scale). Most offices are like a 2 (1-10 scale) so 9 is pretty good. Except for the office manager Mariana, she's off the scale at a 15. Front desk people can make or break an appointment so even though it's not a 10, they're pretty damn good! Communication when it comes to getting a hold of someone, reminders, callbacks, emails, etc: A solid 10. ESPECIALLY compared to other doctors. MMH&W call you back within a reasonable timeframe and you can text them too! Billing: This is hard to score because some of billing is out of the provider's control. Knowing what is within their control though they do really well. Let's just face it, insurance is dense and dealing with claims sucks. Everyone from the front end to the back end need to know how to do their job well in order to make it a smooth experience. There are so many variables when it comes to insurance so mistakes happen all the time. MMH&W do what they can on their end though to help with billing issues or questions. Ease of Finding Office: 10 (1-10 scale). Just make sure you're at building 8 which is clearly marked and the office is on the first floor. Only need to arrive 10 minutes early to find parking and get to the office. Super easy. Ease of Virtual Platform: 9 (1-10 scale). This one is rough because these types of services have different variables too and sometimes it's difficult to troubleshoot if it's on your end or on their end. The good thing though is they do their best to provide other options if technology just isn't working that day. They respect your appointment's time. Given the type of appointment you're going to it's important to not start it off frustrated. And technology can be frustrating. Actual Doctor Experience: 10!!! (1-10 scale). Dr. Mayes is -insert every applicable great adjective for a doctor-. Again, I see a lot of specialists and she's at the top. She does her job well and with compassion and honesty. Lastly, I just want to throw it out there that this is MY experience. If you don't see a lot of doctors sometimes things happen and it's annoying. But sometimes the annoyingness is just part of seeing a doctor. One expectation I do want to manage is timing. Sometimes appointments won't start on time, but that's just "the business." I have waited 10-15 minutes for her. On the other hand, I've waited 3 hours to see my neurologist so 15 minutes is nothing. Most doctor appointments start 30 minutes late in this "industry." The other expectation I want to manage is she may not be taking new patients. I do feel bad hyping her up only for you to find out that she herself is not available. Since it's Dr. Mayes' business though, she's not going to hire another provider who is not going to represent her well. And if you ever have feedback about something that didn't sit well with you, tell her. She can't improve if she doesn't know. Given the type of practice it is, honesty is definitely always the best policy. :)

Our grown daughter had her first acute psychotic break recently. Navigating this new world we have found ourselves in has been intimidating and filled with emotions and lots of concern. The support of the office staff regarding all my questions has been such a big help. We also recently had our first appointment with Christopher Kagay. He has a lot of great reviews (which is why we chose him and the Mayes office) and he lived up to every single one of those reviews and then some. He was thorough, kind, patient, and had a very calming demeanor. He clearly cares about his patients and has a very positive and reassuring outlook. He also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience; presented in laymen's terms that makes it easy to understand. He took his time to go through the history of our daughter, asking me questions, her questions, etc. Again this being our first time navigating our way through this journey; just knowing that this doctor and this staff are with us every step of the way has been a life saving anchor in what feels like very stormy seas. I simply cannot sing the praises of this group loud enough. Forever grateful and I highly recommend them. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

No recognition of their mistake and accusations as well as no apology given for the stress and frustration they caused (Remember, this is a therapist's office). It's obvious if I did not post this review I would not have received a refund from them. Due to the lack of accountability, until there is a major shift in their office management and training of receptionists, I can't, rightfully so, recommend this business as I fear this will happen to future patients seeking therapy. I feel bad for the therapists as they're great. SHADY, GASLIGHTING BUSINESS PRACTICES FROM 100 dollarsFRONT STAFF THAT WILL COST YOU. THEY ARE ONLY HERE TO SWIPE YOUR CARD. GO ELSEWHERE! Story time. They will run your card without informing you of unjustified, unauthorized $100 fees. They charged me $100 dollars on 12/12 (Apparently if you cancel a 2nd time within 24 hours it's $100 dollars. First time is $50) for a session on 12/07 that I canceled the night before via voice mail. In their eyes, this would be my 3rd cancellation within 24 hours. However, I left a message on 12/06 to cancel my 12/07 session, and I called on the 7th to confirm with their front desk, Jenna, making sure she heard my message and to reschedule a new visit the following week for 12/12.. Not once was there any mention of a $100 late fee when speaking with Jenna. Why wasn't there a mention of it? Why was I not charged a fee on the 7th after I rescheduled? Because I canceled the day before. Jenna (she's wonderful) did reduce my 2nd late fee to $50 which I do appreciate as I was sick that day. This third one is the one they are lying about. The following week came, 12/12, and a front desk rep, who is new, Asia, ran my card in the morning (8 hours before my session that day) for $100, not telling me beforehand, and not telling me when I called in 4 hours later to stop future sessions for a month. I was going to cancel yesterday and all future sessions and pay a $50 fee but I was told it would cost $100 because I had other 24-hour cancellations. 12/12 WAS THE FIRST TIME LEARNING ABOUT $100 Fees! I told Asia to keep my session for the day as I didn't want to pay $100 and wasn't aware of that policy. So if I didn't know then, how would I agree to a $100 fee a week ago? Mind you she still did not notify me of her unauthorized charge at this point. I only learned a few hours later after I checked my bank statement. So after discovering the charge on my bank account, I called and spoke with Asia, who told me that they charged it because of my cancelation on the 7th. To which I told Asia that I canceled via voicemail the previous day on the 6th and why would she just randomly charge my card. She said she was new, she could not refund me, and that I would have to use it as credits and to speak with the office manager about it to get a refund. After attempting to call the office manager on the phone, she said she would call me back. No call back. But I did receive an email. In the email, she flat-out lied. She was telling me that I verbally authorized a $100 fee on the 7th. 1) how would I agree if I canceled via a message the day before during after-office hours 2) when I called that day to reschedule why was I not charged if that was the case? I would NEVER agree to spend $100 for a fee that I can avoid, I would instead pay the $31 that I normally pay and make arrangements to go to my session if that were the case, which is exactly what I did on 12/12 after learning about the possibility of this fee. They said it's against their "policy" to refund. First off, you're not refunding. You're voiding a transaction while it's processing. Secondly, it's not your money to determine what to do with it as you CHARGED A CARD WITHOUT AGREEMENT/AUTHORIZATION AND NOTIFICATION. As others said in their reviews, they are only here to swipe your card. Honestly, what kind of practice would charge a ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR late fee for your 2nd time? Imagine going to a therapist's office and they straight up gaslight you, lie to you, charge your card without ANY authorization, creating stressful situations all because they hired someone new who made a mistake and they want to save face. Rebecca Parkey should immediately fire Asia for making fraudulent charges, and Rechell for straight-up lying and gaslighting patients. They lied to me, and I'm sure they will lie again in their comment here to save face since you're unable to respond to comments on reviews. Look elsewhere!

Don't do it. I had a…read morevery frustrating experience with this office, both with the front desk and with Dr. Nguyen. The office manager was, at times, extremely rude over the phone. There were multiple scheduling errors, including one instance where she called me in a very abrasive tone insisting I was supposed to be in-office when my appointment was actually scheduled as telehealth. When I calmly explained this, she told me I was wrong. She later called back after realizing her mistake, but did not offer any apology for the way she spoke to me. On other visits, I could overhear her speaking harshly to other patients on the phone, which was honestly uncomfortable and unprofessional. As for Dr. Nguyen, appointments felt very rushed and impersonal. Visits were often only a few minutes long, and I didn't feel there was much effort to understand my symptoms or adjust my treatment thoughtfully. I was frequently interrupted or talked over, which made it difficult to fully explain what I was experiencing. The communication between the office and the pharmacy was a constant issue. I was left to deal with the pharmacy myself over and over again. On top of that, Nguyen threatened me when it came to my medication. I was repeatedly told I might not be prescribed my medication if I didn't pick it up "on time," even when delays were caused by pharmacy issues or my work schedule. At times my treatment was actually changed because of this, which completely threw things off for me. My final experience was the last straw. He called me nearly 30 minutes early for a telehealth visit while I was getting ready for work. When I said I'd call back at the SCHEDULED time, he told me telehealth would no longer be an option for me and I'd have to come into the office. When I explained that I live 30 minutes away and these visits are extremely short (less then 5 minutes), his response was "that's okay girl nice scenic drive for you" I switched doctors that same day after that and the difference is night and day. My current provider actually listens, communicates with the pharmacy properly, and treats me like a patient. Would not recommend this office.

Stay far, far away…read more Expect deceptive billing and practices coming here. The negative reviews here are accurate. I've seen more on other sites that more accurately reflect what people can expect coming here if they don't try to get those buried or removed also. This is not a 4-5 star doctor, practice, or experience. Do not expect any education or answers to your questions. If you do have questions for the Doctor, he will tell you to go somewhere else and find another doctor (take this advice). Their office manager is universally unprofessional and unhelpful. If you leave an honest review or leave a complaint with your insurance (which is a patient's right to do so) rather than being open to the feedback to improve patient care or experiences, she will retaliate against you and you can expect longer wait times, ignored concerns, and calls that are never returned. She has told me before she will make sure I'm the last person seen when I had an earlier appointment (only after I filed a complaint with my insurance about her specifically). The doctor claims he wants open communication, but in reality, he avoids responding and acts like he has no idea what you're talking about when staff advises repeatedly they've let him know what's going on and have spoken to him about it. In my case, he billed my insurance $250 on 3/3 to call me on FaceTime and is refusing to send my prescription. He then no-showed for a scheduled appointment on 3/31. I never canceled anything--I simply asked a question (which I am allowed to do but is always met with defensiveness and dismissiveness) why I needed two appointments and had to pay twice in the same month (3/3 and 3/31) when nothing had changed. I was repeatedly told by office staff that the doctor would call me, but as the day went on, I instead received a text saying my invoice to pay for my appointment was canceled. No explanation. No call. No replies to my emails. There's a paper they want you to sign that you understand and agree with the results you've gotten from the doctor. "Office manger" tells you just to sign it before because that's how they do it. I agreed to sign it once I got the results and even that is met with a confused look and hostile energy. When I called with my insurance company, thank goodness the call was recorded--she claimed no one ever said the doctor would call me, called me a rude liar, and refused to help resolve anything which is her standard defensive and unprofessional level of unhelpfulness. Dr makes you sign a paper saying when he will "dc" you. I personally asked the doctor, before signing that, in my appointment if that included pharmacy delays out of my control, he said NO and just communicate those to him, and I did. This office manager tells my insurance she's not helping or rescheduling my appointment THEY cancelled because of pharmacy delays in February and after they already took my money and billed my insurance on March 3rd. Be aware: not if, but when.. When you experience billing issues at this office- it is not promptly resolved or met with a willingness to help. After looking at my insurance documents I had to call in the past and found out I was owed a refund from this office! They are not proactive in any of this. When you experience delays outside your control, like pharmacy issues, this office will "dc" you but still bill your insurance. You can expect long wait times, even for virtual appointments, and if you miss that call, he will "dc". If you have any standards for your care and are truly interested in finding a provider to support you or family's health, please find another provider. There's better places with structure, practical procedures, and professional staff in place to support adequate patient care.

The previous time I did this, I was able to go during my lunch break. Here's what happened this time. First I got an email from PDS Medical on 12/24/25 reminding me I have an appointment on January 7th, 2026. I confirmed the appointment. Then I get an email on 12/30/25 reminding me I have an appointment and letting me know that I can save time by using e check-in. Done. I checked in using the online portal. Finally. I got a text message the morning of my appointment on Jan 7th again reminding me I have an appointment. Confirmed! My appointment was at 1:30pm, so I took a lunch break from 1:00pm-2:00pm. I showed up at 1:15pm. Checked in at the front desk. The receptionist, a very nice lady named Esmeralda charged me my $70 copayment. She emailed me my receipt. Receipt received in my email at 1:17pm. I waited in the lobby patiently. I was then called in at my appointment time exactly at 1:30pm. The assistant took my blood pressure & weight, then escorted me to the waiting room at 1:35. I sat in the waiting room until 2:00pm! Christine V. never showed up! I heard her walk into a room of a patient that showed up after me at 1:58pm! There was no communication from the staff letting me know they were short staffed. Nor was there any communication for warning me that the wait would be longer than expected. I left as soon as my lunch break ended 2pm (and returned to work late). I did let the nice receptionist know that no one ever came in the room to see me. She could tell I was upset when I walked out. Do you think anyone called me to apologize? No! Not during the drive home, nor during the remainder of the afternoon or evening! The next day I got a message from the MyChart portal letting me know my prescription refill was denied. The portion I paid for my blood work on 12/24, and the $70 copay for the office was a waste of money!

Dr. Kapel has been there for me since the start. He has an uncanny ability to zero in on whatever it is that brings you to him. He explains things in a crystal clear manner. He gives you a crystal clear picture of why you are having the problems you are having. And then he gives you a crystal clear set of instructions on what you should watch out for so you can get control of your life back. Dr. Kapel saved my marriage in 2008 and I am still with the love of my life 13 years later (going on 26 years!!). I stopped seeing him regularly a few years back because he basically "fixed" me, but once in a while I may go in for a "tune-up". I've been to all sorts of therapists and counselors before but I feel Dr. Kapel has a very special gift, call it a "calling" in life. I don't think there is any problem he can't figure out. Dr. Slagle has handled the medication end of my biploar disorder but he acts like he is my counselor or therapist as well. Most "shrinks" just want to prescribe you meds. But not Dr. Slagle. He knows ALL about my life, my family, my past, my greatest fears and biggest dreams. He's NEVER in a hurry when I see him. He remembers what we talked about last meeting. Bipolar disorder does not go away so I am extremely fortunate to be able to see Dr. Slagle every three months. There have been several times when I had some kind of emergency - bipolar disorder can do that to you, and he and his office staff have every single time figured out a way to get me in to see him. I can't speak for the other doctors at GVPA, but the office itself is a whole lot different from any others I have seen. They work together, they know who you are when you call, and they all seem like a close-knit family. To sum it up, I am a person who knows what it means to need help. I don't know if I would be as well off today in my life if I had seen other doctors all these years.
