We were with friends, and we all agreed that every bite was a treat. We had 3 appetizers (suggested by Alba), and three main courses (suggested by Alba) and we enjoyed the dinner immensely. So glad we stopped in here. This place opened up 3 months ago and I'm so happy it did. From the moment we walked in with no reservation to being warmly welcomed by the Co-owner Arturo we knew we were in for a good time in terms of customer service and Arturo didn't disappoint. He gave us wonderful recommendations and let us make substitutions even to things that weren't on the menu like the tostones. He was also very attentive and wanted to make sure we enjoyed everything. The ceviche was very fresh and tasted great! The tostones were perfectly seasoned and the pincho de pollo had a great explosive flavor with a little kick at the end. We had the pernil, the pork chops and the bistec all were amazingly flavorful and we enjoyed them very much. They were all sold out of the sancocho which must be super popular. The menu changes on a regular basis to ensure the most fresh ingredients for all of the dishes and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. Arturo even gave us a dessert for free (coconut arroz con leche) when I mentioned I loved arroz de coco. The place is very cute as well. Chill dinner night vibes. read more

We learned about Estacion from Amy who works at their sister restaurant, Libertad in Skokie. We thoroughly enjoyed their garlic-forward guacamole, followed by fresh and well prepared swordfish, and a very savory stew. The staff were very engaging. They are still in kind of a soft opening stage, but there were no glitches. We hope they get signage and lighting for the front to let the neighborhood know they're there! They are a welcome addition to the Evanston- Rogers Park restaurant scene. read more

Ok, I was delightfully excited to visit Estacion. Just passing by and listening to patrons who were just walking out on how amazing their dinner was made me want to come and dine in there right away. The restaurant has a Puerto Rican themed menu and is the third branch of the Libertad restaurant family which includes Libertad in Skokie, and Zentli also in Evanston located on Dempster and Dodge. We started out with 2 appetizers, the octopus salad with very flavorful, and very tender, decent sized portions of octopus and accompanied with capers, olives, and peppers. A very nice sized plate perfect for 2. We also added the pork tenderloin skewer with a coconut dipping sauce on the side. A different flavor I had not expected but was a delicious compliment that works with the mild heat that comes with the pork. Our entries were the grilled swordfish which was as tendor and flavourful as I ever tasted. We also included the Pernil, recommend by Josie our server. It came with white rice and red beans. The entire plate compliment each other down to the tostones, fried green plantains to add a bit of crunch to the dish. We wrapped up with their flan which was rich and delicious for dessert. We started with 2 unique cocktails and ended with 2 other cocktails which had their own spin on the typical of a mojito and a caprihina. Overall, there were so many dishes that I wanted to try in one sitting that I am definitely planning on returning to experience the rest of the menu. Service was amazing and very friendly and down to earth with a very decent turn around time on our orders at that time. This is a high recommendation to visit. This definitely does deliver on all levels. This place was amazing. Such friendly staff when you enter. The atmosphere is very authentic, beautiful and sexy. I had the Mezcalita Espinosa cocktail to start, delicious and well balanced. I followed that with l their Chuletón entree with a Caipirinha cocktail. The pork was juicy with a nice spice from the salsa. The cocktail was very refreshing and so easy to drink. My friends and I had passed this place before and thought we give it a try. We were all very disappointed with our food and our drinks. My pernil dish barely had any meat. The beans and rice lacked flavor. I paid $24 for my meal and expected a whole lot more. How disappointing!!! I don't drink frequently and when I ordered the mojito for $14 it barely had any rum. My friends and I will felt like smucks for spending $48 per person for a meal that lacked flavor. What a rip off! read more

As a Puerto Rican, the Perníl was very underwhelming, especially for the high price. Beans lacked any flavor and were hard.

This is a great new addition to the neighborhood. Love their cocktails and food! Nice to have some Caribbean offerings. Huge fan of the avocado and crab and ceviche appetizers. We've been back several times and this place always delivers. read more

I was excited to try this new restaurant and encourage others to do the same. Our food was delicious. We started with hummus (who knew it was Latino) which was great and a chicken skewer accompanied by pickled cucumber and cabbage. My entree of mushrooms and squash over polenta had a wonderful depth of flavor that can be missing from some vegetarian meals. My friend ordered the short ribs after seeing it at the next table. The meat was tender but not fatty. it was served in a broth with corn and potatoes. Also very tasty. We ended our meal with a coconut rice dessert resembling rice pudding in flavor but more texture. Our waiter was very pleasant and attentive. This restaurant deserves praise for the creative menu, it is not a taco and enchilada place but rather a great place to enjoy an engaging meal. read more

Amazing meal. I went into Peckish Pig and the music volume was unbearable so I went on yelp and saw Estacion and decided to try it. Server was very helpful with menu. Wine glass was a little pricey for area at $14 but generous pour and nice tannic Cabernet. Started with salt cod potato cake. Generous portion, flavorful and nice start to meal. The hangar steak was cooked perfectly and sauce was very flavorful with a nice spicy kick. Highly recommend. read more

We had an excellent meal with friends at Estacion last weekend, which is a great addition to Howard St. and to Evanston's dining scene. The menu has numerous appealing appetizer and entree options, and portions are good for trying and sharing several things. In particular, for apps we loved the halibut ceviche, the salt cod and potato cake, and mufango, which is a mashed plaintain cake (not sweet plantains) in a savory ham hock broth. For entrees, we shared a pork chop with a habanero salsa and sweet plantains, a short rib dish similar to a beef stew, and pernil, a slow roasted pork shoulder dish over rice and vegetables. All entrees were very flavorful and excellent. Cocktails were good and they have a nice selection of local beers, and a small wine list. The restaurant wasn't very crowded at all for a Saturday night (although perhaps in part due to its large size and a back room that did have diners in it) and we hope more people will give it a try - it's owned by the same folks who own Zentli and Libertad in Skokie.
