So this happened about a year ago, my air conditioning when out in the middle of a Texas summer what a nightmare. I picked this place due to the excellent reviews and was not disappointed. I took my car in and was told by (I think it was Tim) that he would look at it right away and call me to let me know what was wrong. My wife and I had a limited budget and he showed us what exactly was wrong with the car and not everything that he found was a fix needed asap. He suggested different solutions that would fit our budget and would still get the car running. He's not out to upsell you, he's going to tell you what needs to be fixed and is going to recommend OEM part replacements. My Yelpy friends recommended Esteemed when I found myself in need of a trusty mechanic in the burbs (not really practical to spend half my day driving to and from my usual guy on S 1st when I have a baby in tow). I called Tim, explained the problem, and he told me it was probably just X Y and Z and I could fix it myself for a fraction of what he would charge me. Interesting, I thought, don't you want my money and my business? Frustrated, I thanked him for his time, but took his recommendations and voila, problem solved! The best part... Tim called me back the next day to check in with me and my car problem and to see if I still needed to bring my car into the shop. Tim did an awesome job. My transmission went out on a Sunday, I called and left a message and he actually called me back even though he was off that day. He was able to recommend a wrecker which was cheaper then the one i had called. Tim jumped on my car first thing Monday morning and quickly diagnosed the problem. He gave me a quote to fix the problem and advised me how long it would take. Tim was able to get the part overnight and get my car fixed two days sooner then he had originally had thought it would take. I was told about this place by a friend who knows the owner. He told me he had just opened his shop last year and that he was one of the most honest guys he knew. After meeting him and having him work on my car I believe it! Another garage had told me I needed all this brake work, after he looked everything over he told me it wasn't nearly that bad. (Just hopefully not too soon... ;-) ) Another visit: The stupid "check engine" light came on and I thought "Oh crap, what's this going to cost me". Because everything was running fine I put it off for many months but now my inspection is coming up and I've been told they won't pass if the idiot light is on. I stopped by and Tim dug around for a while and found a bad hose, which he replaced. He explained that he thought that would fix it but he couldn't be sure. I'd have to drive it for a few days and see if the light came back on. He seemed apologetic that he wasn't more sure of the fix. I've spent some time thinking about this. In the community of yelpers, it's important to realize that someone's "AMAZING PIZZA" is someone elses mediocre pizza. How much faith do I have in the judgement of my local peers? When it comes to food, I'll take reviews with a grain of salt. In the realm of auto repair, however, I concluded that the mass populace and I have more in common: we don't want to get scammed, taken advantage of, and pushed constantly for repair after repair. This, my mechanic moving, and convenience, led me to Esteemed Automotive. Tim was very gracious in putting up with my constant indecision and mind changing since my car needed some pretty significant repairs. Even when I wanted to get some second opinions at the strong recommendations of my family circle, he gave me the break down to take with me so that I could see that the prices would be competitive. He also warranties his work which, to me, says that he'll do a good job first time around to avoid wasting time and money later. Finding a mechanic is an odd thing because it's like looking for a doctor and generally you want to have a sense of "I can trust this person." His clientele prior to the advent of yelp were all via word of mouth which immediately instills a degree of trust oppose to just happening upon the shop. Like most of us generally do, I made my decision on where to take my vehicle based on online ratings and posted reviews. My search was easily narrowed when I only saw one listing with over seventy 5 star reviews across the board. I read all of the reviews and made the call to see if esteemed auto could bring a company vehicle that has been sitting in a warehouse for 2 years back to life. I was aware it probably needed the works, Tires, breaks, rotors, full fluid change and full service, filters, line flushes etc. and it did per Tim at Esteemed. I couldn't be happier with the service not to mention it came at an extremely friendly pricepoint. The car runs like it did on day 1 and feels just as reliable. I give this place 5 stars because of the affordable prices, the GREAT customer service and getting me into the shop so quick. I found this place on Yelp and I'm very thankful that I did. I went to a more mainstream mechanic before coming here because I didn't know any better, not being from Austin and all, and they wanted to do unnecessary work and charge me ridiculous prices. I met up with Tim here and he shot straight with me which is how I prefer things. I don't have a vast mechanical knowledge and he explained things very well. I had a leak coming from my rear differential and Tim got the truck keys from me and called me back in only a couple of hours to let me know that the job was done. Tim was recommended to me by another nearby shop. So first thing I did was check online for some info. All 5 stars on yelp? Is that even possible? 'Ahah! There are lots of hidden reviews', I thought to myself. Which all also turned out to be five stars. Okay, so I was convinced to give him a try. I was not disappointed in the least. Tim was very upfront with me. He communicated with me far more than any mechanic I ever had, letting me know any changes as soon as possible. His prices were more than reasonable. And even when it took more time than he anticipated, he still charged me the original quoted price. He let me know which problems to look out for in the future but with no pressure to get them changed at this time. Most recently I ruined a wheel and some steering/suspension components by taking a turn too fast in the rain, and my car was not even drivable. After he finished the job, my car drove 10x better than it did even BEFORE the accident. He was incredibly patient and helpful as I worked through whether to go through my insurance and made the process stress-free. He went above and beyond, driving from Pflugerville to Elgin in search of a good replacement part for my 2008 Scion, and even rotated and aligned all 4 tires which he didn't need to do as only one was damaged; he didn't even charge extra. Tim is the kind of honest mechanic everyone wishes they could find. I can guarantee that he will NOT take advantage of you. Finding a good mechanic is nerve-wracking for anyone, but as a female (in a same-sex relationship) I was especially concerned about being taken advantage of when our car broke down. I found Tim on Yelp and called him that morning. He asked if we could leave the car with him. I told him we could just call a cab. He actually said, "Well, it sounds like you're a one-car-family. If you can bring it in right now, I'll see if I can get you in and out as fast as possible. I'd really like to try and save you that round-trip cab fare." Umm...WHAT?!? Do my ears deceive me? The diagnostic scan showed multiple error codes relating to the fuel system. He said we should start with the biggest problem and go from there instead of convincing us to fix every little thing. He patiently explained what needed to be fixed and why. He ordered replacement parts while we hung out at the Starbucks on the corner. About two hours later the car was ready! I researched the typical repair costs for our issue and Tim came in thousands of dollars less than the other place quoted us. My jaw dropped when I got the bill because it was so LOW! How often does that happen? We talked about how unbelievable he was the entire way home! He even texted us a few days later to make sure everything was going okay with the car. I don't usually write reviews but I will this time. It has been overdue. I first found Tim on yelp, read so many good things here that I decided to give him a call. It was late, dark and cold and my car broke down, called Tim and he told me to tow the car that same night that he was going to look at it next day. Well long story short.... I took the car in around 7pm and by 8:30pm my car was fixed. I was so happy since that was our only car. He also takes the time to show you what he did and explained everything.
