I called another company about repairing my refrigerator that wasn't cooling below 50 degrees. The person on the phone didn't seem to understand the problem leaving me with no confidence in that companies competence. I called Estes, Sam (owner) answered, listened, gave what he thought the problem might be but assured me that whatever the problem was he could repair it. He gave me a window of arrival time that afternoon saying that he would call me when he was on his way. He called, arrived, took a few minutes to check the refrigerator and gave me his diagnosis. It was a relatively simple problem which he repaired in about an hour. While he was working he explained why that problem happened and recommended that if it happens again within a few years we should consider replacing our refrigerator with another brand. He explained why he suggested not replacing our refrigerator with the same brand due to it's inherent design deficiencies. We have only been in Winchester 4 months & about 2 months ago we had an issue with our washer. Well not being familiar with any repair business here, I went by Sphincters ( misspelled intentionally) and asked them if they would send a tech out to take a look. One of my burners wasn't turning on properly, with the igniter going off in the other burners. Tried to adjust on my own, but no success. I was not going to mess with gas, so called Estes. This task plus examining my ice maker which was producing some sediment, so never bothered using it. Anyway, both issues were resolved with some education and explanation from Sam. I may have been overly cautious and could've tried to do more research on my own, but his information and education on the burner and ice maker were helpful and worth the $89 diagnostic call. I was having a problem with my fridge not cooling, getting as high as almost 60 degrees and then dropping down. I called the manufacturer, Samsung, and they schedule a repair service to come by--when they called they asked a couple of questions and he guessed it was the compressor, an expensive and specialized repair, that he didn't have anyone who could do it. Looking it up myself, it seemed more likely to be the evaporator fan. I called Estes at the recommendation of a neighbor and the woman on the phone was very helpful and dumbfounded that someone was trying to diagnose the problem without actually taking a look at it. She scheduled Sam to come by the next day. He arrived right in the middle of the window provided wearing a mask and gloves and after explaining what happened he thought the fan was the possible culprit. He cleared out the fridge, took off the panel, and walked me through the problem--the ice build up next to the evaporator fan wasn't able to regulate the temperature like it was supposed to. He went through the process of cleaning it out and walking through what he was doing, while also chatting with me during the process. The whole thing took about an hour and was as far as I can tell very reasonably priced. Next time he'll be my first call for appliance repair and suggest they be yours, too. read more

I had an issue with the ice maker in my refrigerator not making ice. They called me back right away after submitting a request online, and set helpful expectations on when Sam would be able to visit. Sam arrived on schedule. He diagnosed the issue quickly, applied a workaround, and laid out the long-term fix options in terms I could understand. While he was there he was kind enough to look at an extra situation in my dishwasher that popped up the day before. He again quickly identified the situation, fixed it, and helped me understand the root cause so that I could keep it from happening again. Estes Appliance Service is amazing and outstanding. Sam provided excellent service and had integrity throughout the entire process. His service for my fridge was responsive, timely, and professional. When I initially called in, I got a prompt response and my appointment was scheduled a few days out. He called 30 mins before he arrived and was personable and friendly. He wore gloves and a mask and respectful with social distancing. He was able to diagnose the issue promptly and provided a reasonable estimate. Unfortunately the issue wasn't resolved the first time so I had to have him come back to troubleshoot the issue further. It's now resolved and everything seems to be working. I scheduled an appointment with Sam to have him take a look at my dryer which was making unusual noises. His assistant who answered the phone was very friendly and accommodating. There is a $99 visit fee to have him come out but that seems to be standard in the industry. Sam arrived within the prescribed window and called ahead to let me know he was on his way. He addressed the dryer issue and walked me through everything I needed to know to avoid the issue from happening again. In my estimation, Sam is an honest and reliable person which are the qualities that I look for in any repair technician. I am revising my previous rating because Estes agreed to return to fix my broken washer without another service call fee. I previously offered a low rating because I was charged $89 for a service call for my washer and dryer when it turned out he couldn't do anything to help with the dryer - we needed a vent cleaner - and my washer was working again. The fact that he's willing to return and waive the service call fee to see what's going on with the washer tells me he's probably a pretty honest guy trying to do right by his customers. read more

I called Estes for a washing machine repair and they responded to my message the next day (their outgoing message had warned of a longer than normal, two-week lead time for appointments due to current conditions). When they called me back the next morning the scheduler let me know they had had a cancellation and that Sam Beswick, the owner, was available between 10 and 2 that day to do my repair. Sam called me ahead of time to let me know he was on his way and then showed up at my house within the expected window. He quickly diagnosed the problem (worn out water inlet valve, a common issue), provided me a quote and promptly made the repair. Sam was direct and very courteous and completed the job in a very short amount of time since he had the needed part with him. The price for the job did not strike me as inexpensive but it was very fair and the charges were clearly spelled out, among the service fee, parts and labor. Overall I am very satisfied with the service and overall experience and will definitely call Estes and Sam again when I need an appliance repaired. read more

Repair to a Bosch double wall oven. There was a little back and forth phone tag getting scheduled, but well worth the effort. The service person explained the issue at the diagnosis was the control board and detailed on why the relays fail. The cost estimate was accurate and in line with what I expected. They ordered the part and called to schedule sooner than estimated. During both visits to the house the service person called in advance and arrived during their estimated window. Proper clean up afterward and testing to ensure the new component worked properly. I called Estes on a cold call as I haven't had the need for appliance repair in some time. Sam came by about a year ago to fix our very old dishwasher - sadly, the part it needed to be fixed was no longer available and he pointed us in the direction of a new machine that we have loved using and was truly a wonderful recommendation. Fast forward to now (April 2020) and COVID-19, our oven broke, Sam came over with his mask and gloves and was able to fix our oven. Estes made a firm appointment to fit around my schedule and called ahead of time to let me know that they were on there way. Sam and assistant arrived as promised, looked at the problem and tested things out. The new new controller board solution would have been costlier than a new machine, so Sam kept figuring it out, called Bosch themselves and eventually worked out not only that the problem was caused by bad diagnostic programming flagging a drain problem on a failing motor. Sam also found a workaround that would keep the unit going without costly repair until it reached end of life, giving me time to plan and choose a new machine wihout having to do the dishes every night. As an Electronic engineer, I was able to follow what Sam was describing and it was clear that he was very experienced and knowledgeable about the whole appliance area, not just following a manual. I have used Estes twice and their service is exemplary. The last call was to repair a Kenmore stove in my mother-in-law's rental unit. The tenant pointed out a number of other problems (dishwasher not working properly, clothes dryer working erratically, water heater not heating).
