I requested a service on Sunday night and a technician ((Alex) arrived at 10am Monday. Delighted with their quick response! Older LG w/bottom freezer wouldn't get below 20 degrees (0 recommended). Ends up freon pressure was low; Alex performed a system recovery of the old refrigerant and replaced with new. He was finished in 1.5 hours and temps are returning to normal. Price was fair @ ~30% of replacement cost of a new fridge. Alex was personable and emphasized giving Smart Steps a call if the repair doesn't hold. Very pleased with my experience. They were able to send someone within the week to fix an uncommon brand of toilet, including locating an alternate part for a discontinued part that was causing problems. My technician Oscar was great, as was the technician he brought with him whose name I sadly didn't catch. They were prompt, communicative, explained the issue and were able to get the part and do the full repair same day. I had an issue with my Samsung oven - they came did an inspection that was under 15 minutes - that alone was $95. When you receive the quote it is reduced from the total fee if you go with them - it's kind of predatory. To replace two things it was expensive - over $400. I compared with another company and it was comparable - this company took some off the labor which I appreciated but while fixing my oven - when there was a sign that something may have been wrong, I inquired about them looking at it and providing more detail, I was quickly (and rudely) told that I would need to get an inspection and another quote and, "I told you it would be extra since I can't look inside." My Bosch dryer wasn't drying and was able to schedule an appointment pretty quickly to get a quote. It's actually the first time my ventless dryer had this issue. Just a few months after moving into our home in the fall of '21, we started having issues with our (then-new) Samsung dishwasher, where it would intermittently not fully drain. We called in a repairman (not from Smart Step Repairs), who thought it was simply a clogged drain hose and "resolved" it with a shop vac run. The issue returned a few months later, and this time, we went with Smart Step Repairs. Alexey and his team were very helpful in identifying, quoting, and fixing the dishwasher issue. Our particular situation required the team to remove the oven prior to removing the dishwasher, so the job was bigger than a typical dishwasher repair would otherwise have been, due to additional labor. Although this meant that the quote was slightly higher than we expected, the work was done professionally and with great care for the property. My ice maker wasn't working after we installed the water line ourselves. The ice maker hasn't been used at all since I've had the fridge for more than 5 years, bc there were no water line to it until recently. After weeks of troubleshooting, no ice came. So I called smart step repair since they helped me last time with my dishwasher. First the technician came out and I told him that he had to unhook the water line in order to pull the fridge out bc we only were able to hook a 20ft line at the time and it was just right. He didn't hear me or something but kept trying to pull the fridge out from the space with much force. I told him again that the water line needs to be unhooked for him to pull the fridge out. He finally went and unhooked it but not before telling me that was wrong way to hook up waterline etc. I told him it was the longest I could find in the area at the time. He then proceeds to pull the fridge out and checked the back. Then test the ice maker. He tells me that the ice maker needs to be replaced. He can't test the water pressure to the line since it was not hooked up so I need to get a longer line. But bc he pulled on the fridge hard first time that I'll prob need to replace water valve on the fridge. He said he'll talk to manager to get me a quote. They are usually pretty quick with the quote but I didn't get a call back for the quote that day. I had to call them next day to find out that technician didn't write a report. So the guy needed to find out from him of next step. Then I got a quote back and it was a $500 repair for an ice maker plus to replace the water valve that the technician damaged while pulling on the fridge. I told the guy that I can't believe that's the quote knowing I can find the ice maker on Amazon for $50 and prob could YouTube to replace the ice maker. The valve however should have been replaced on their dime for their mistake. He said he was going to talk to the manager about it. I'm still waiting to hear back from them but at this point, I'm wary of using the service again. I can update the review when I hear back from them. 11.4.2022 update: I got a call from the owner who was very accommodating and said that he'll send out the first technician who helped me with the dishwasher. He came today and went the extra steps to attach the water line extension to the fridge and installed the new water valve and ice maker. As for the prove, the owner told me that they use manufacturer item hence why the quote was higher. Apparently I also still needed to replace the water valve to ensure the ice maker will work in conjunction. The first technician said that he didn't break it but that it still needed to be replaced for both to work properly. Thank you to the owner and the second technician for getting the ice maker to work. Fingers crossed that it's producing ice which will take a day or so for ice to get full. read more

This was one of the few companies that services my brand/model of dryer. (Asko ventless) The tech came and diagnosed the problem quickly. I needed a new part which I accepted them to order and install. They had problems getting a non-defective part but kept me informed every step of the way. The third replacement was good so they installed it. Dryer runs like a charm. At the same time the guy gave me a step by step on how to properly maintain the dryer and keep the internal venting mechanism cleaned properly. I was moving fast and took for granted the many five star reviews. My mistake. Smart Step came out the next day, double checked a couple of things and gave me a quote roughly 36 hours later that was $445, all but equal to the original cost of the 7 year old machine. Let me be clear, the dryer needed a new timer (it just wasn't shutting off at the end of the cycle) and everything else was working just fine. I reached out to SmartStep and they explained the part was $180 and it was a complicated repair. Google a timer replacement on a Maytag dryer. It seems very straightforward; so much so my reasonably handy husband and I thought about doing it ourselves. I got a second estimate and it was $160 less expensive than this company and that repairman too had 5 star reviews. Bummer I'm $95 into SmartStep, but now I know. Perhaps this company has more overhead and has to charge more, I don't know, but their estimate was not reasonable for my situation/repair. read more

I contacted Smart Repairs after my refrigerator was having issues with the freezer forming ice, the freezer door gasket leaking, and thus the temperature of the refrigerator was above 40 F. They responded very quickly through the Yelp texting feature, and informed me of their pricing structure. We set up an appointment for Tuesday from 9am-5pm. The young repair person was in my apt around 9:20am (he called me to let me know he was on his way, which was a really nice detail). After adjusting the freezer door gasket and cleaning the freezer fan of accumulated ice, he told me that there, was no need for further repairs, and that I only owed they visit fee ($85.00) which was amazing! I have changed my rating from 5 stars to 1. I requested a service for a non-operating double wall oven at my daughter's home. The technician came in with his cell phone and a lighted screw driver. He determined that the problem was due to a lack of electricity to the unit and said that an electrician needed to be contacted to fix the problem. I told hm that his was not an electrician's problem and that he had not assessed the problem. I nonetheless contacted my electricians and they determined that electricity was coming to the oven. I subsequently called another appliance company that determined that a fuse needed to be replaced. Voila!Problem solved. I deleted Smart Step Repairs for my contacts and would never recommend them to anyone. Incidentally, when the company completed the repairs on the oven at my house. The oven lasted 10 months and I had to buy a new double oven. read more
