The quality of their products is absolutely terrible and they don't stand by their warranty. I have had a custom sofa for 9 months and it is completely trashed looking. I have no children or pets-only two smaller people who use it. Even though it is obvious that there shouldn't be permanent stretching of the fabric and collapsing of the cushions after such a short period of time, they have told me this is normal. I came here yesterday with my husband to look for a living room set. I've known several people that have Ethan Allan furniture but from different locations. They weren't busy at all when we went. When you walk in there is a huge desk and a girl sitting behind it. Not sure what she was there for because she didn't do anything! We weren't even greeted or asked what we were there for. We walked around the store and a bit and actually had a question but no one came around. We saw a few women that worked at the store walk around us but still no help. That's ok, I'll spend my money else where by people that actually want to make money. Ugh rude! read more

Not impressed. They can't even update their phone message to tell you their real hours, which currently start at 11, although the message says 10. This says to me that they don't care about their customers. Further, after driving 35 miles to get there on a Wednesday (July 1), a sign on the door said they were closed on July 1st, inexplicably. Thanks to Stacey D. of Ethan Allen's kind post. But the following is what I got from Ethan's customer service, someone who claimed to be the authoritative manager "As a one time exception we can help to change the address on this order for a 10% fee but will reduce down to $500 as an accommodation. A second option, which has been presented previously is if you wish to cancel the order there will be a 33% restocking fee to cancel these custom items". - So the option I was given is to either pay $500 for a address change within 2 miles and of same elevator service, or to take 33% restocking fee, which would amount to ~$2000, to cancel the order. Worst experience ever! No customer service. No one offered to help us at all. They had time to talk with other customers but not us. Maybe it was because we didn't have a man with us, or maybe it was because we were not white enough, or maybe we didn't look "rich" enough. None the less absolutely no one helped us. Then as we were leaving we asked were the next closet location was and all they could say is the were the largest store around... still no help. Ethan Allen is the type of furniture store where you encounter consultants. A panel of "American Idol" judges (although...nicely dressed ones) will meet you as you walk in. The eyes will quickly look you up and down to vet your level of purchasing power. They probably saw the vehicle you rolled up in as well. While helpful, our sales woman seemed to be helping us in an "affordable" way. She was also missing the point of what we wanted. Yes, we pulled up in my pickup truck, yes we looked a bit of a mess. We had just finished working in the yard and decided to head out to look for some new bedroom pieces. The whole experience managed to take a 180 degree turn once our sales woman found out that we had a Temperpedic bed. No kidding? You mean, you can't always judge a book by its cover? Who'd a thought? As far as the furniture is concerned, Ethan Allen has some excellent pieces. High quality stuff with the abilty to customize just about anything. Sure you'll pay for it, but we all know that we get what we pay for. Two things would make a trip to Ethan Allen a five-star experience: 1. I want more to look at and touch. The minimal space affords enough room to display each diverse style they carry...but guess what...not that many people are going to buy a denim couch, or insanely ornate, mirrored and metalic pieces. 2. Service was terrible!! My sister and I walked in this location and were not even greeted with an hello. As we browsed through the store 2 of the sales associates went in the opposite direction when they saw us coming. On our way out of the store both associates were at the front of the store shouting goodbye. I proceeded to tell them I noticed we were intentionally being ignored, how rude they are, and that discrimination is completely wrong. I also so let them know their actions are the perfect way to get bad reviews for the store. My sister and I are 2 professional women (Chemist/Psychologist) we were surprised to witness this type of treatment from furniture salesmen. I've been going to this location for the past 14 months, as I've been adding pieces of furniture slowly, one piece at a time. I highly recommend asking for Andrea Ciano, a design consultant at the Pineville location. She's transformed my condo into my dream home. I'm very, very picky, and she understands this. I consider my condo to be my baby, so I won't take the advice of just anyone. I plan on having the pictures of the condo posted on her portfolio when I'm finished. I've always had a pleasant experience at this location, and never felt like I was being sized up by "a panel of judges." LOL In fact, half the time I go in there I look like "you know what" with no makeup on and my hair pulled up in a pony tail!! You just cannot beat Ethan Allen when it comes to quality furniture and decor. I highly recommend if you're as picky about your space as I am!! read more

We started decorating our new home on Lake Norman and could not be more pleased with Cindys suggestions and customer service. She listens and advises with respect and courtesy. I have been shopping at Ethan Allen for over 20 years. When you walk in to the store it may require a little patience as the front desk is taking calls and also paging design professionals. If you know you are needing help, call in advance and Make an Appointment. That way you are assured of personal attention as soon as you get there. Not only are the designers showing people products on the floor, they are sitting and working with clients, making home visits, and continuing to work on client projects in the store. Honestly, I have been in the store dozens of times and have never been treated or ignored the way these other reviewers have described. If they are having a huge sale, it is unrealistic to walk in the door unannounced and expect to have immediate personal attention. I have always been delighted at the products I have purchased and the service I have received. Most things come in ahead of their 8-12 week delivery frame. Then you schedule the home delivery. E A products are an investment in a product that lasts many lifetimes. read more

In the past when my husband and I needed to purchase good quality furniture we always went to Walter E Smith in the Chicago area. Since living here we made the change to Ethan Allen. We purchased a full living room from them this past spring and have been very happy with almost everything. The service was great and the sales person listened to us and put together exactly what we wanted with one exception. We asked for tables (specifically a coffee table) that could stand up to some abuse because we have a 16 month old at home. The table he recommended is beautiful but does not at all stand up to what he said it would. This table is only 3 1/2 months old and already has wood chipping off, many many dents and looks absolutely horrible. This table is so softI can dent/scratch it with my fingernail. Ive have better quality tables from Target and World market for 1/3 the price. After only 2 months use I called the store to tell them the sales clerk clearly did not know the product he was selling, if he did he never would have recommended this table. I was told they did not cover customer abuse and can't be held accountable for a sales person giving me bad information. It's the sylvan coffee table....DO NOT BUY IT!! I dropped the remote control on it and it left a huge dent. They wouldn't even offer to come out to see if the table was defective or had the wrong finish. I told them I would bring it in myself and they said no. My end tables and cocktail table are extremely durable/well made and are exactly what I wanted. I am disappointed the table I was most concerned about is horrible. read more

We purchased a living room set (couch, 2 leather chairs, coffee table, and a rug) about 6 months ago. The rug was pushed on us, and we should have pushed back. We have 2 dogs and we were assured that the rug was easy to clean, we even signed up for their service where they will come out and clean or replace our rug or couch if stained. After the fact, and after $600, I find out that they really don't help you keep your rug clean. You have to have a serious problem, report it right away, and follow their cleaning instructions before they will even come to your house. So we were sold a bill of un-truths. We just sent our rug off for professional cleaning, and were told that it cannot get wet or be exposed to water - otherwise it will turn brown. Thanks a lot, Ethan Allen. Second problem - our couch started squeaking when you sit down or stand up. I called and a service man came out to "fix it" by undoing the fabric on the bottom of the couch... could not figure out what was wrong - and he stapled it back together. Who wants a brand new couch that has been stapled back up?? They agreed to take it back to the factory to fix it - which means we will be without a couch for up to 2 weeks. EA offered to give us loaner "lounge chairs which I agreed to. They just picked it up, and in my couch's place, they gave me two outdoor wicker lounge chairs!! Are you kidding me??? Now - on to my third complaint. I paid for our set with half cash, and signed up for their no-interest payment plan for 2 years. There was a mix up in how everything was charged to my account, and I ended up disputing a certain amount on the card... which means that the account was closed down and a new one set up. It took 3 months for them to transfer the balance to the new account, and when they did, they didn't give me the no-finance option. I have called to get this fixed, and it's now 2 months later, and I'm still being charged interest! I will never purchase anything from Ethen Allen again. While the look of the living room is nice, the overall experience is not worth it. read more
