This review is long overdue. Had a most horrible experience with this store. Though Michelle the sales lady was great, we had a run in with the store manager. We called corporate in New York. Turns out that the Ethan Allen store in Saratoga is not part of the franchise. Regardless, this isn't Ethan and Jose. This store needs to be held to the same standards that all Ethan Allen stores are held to. I'm giving this store a 1 star only because I can't give no stars. If you want to be treated horribly, like second class citizen, then this is the store for you!!! We will NEVER purchase any furniture from this Ethan Allen!!!! I wish I could give them 0 stars. Here is my situation: we ordered a sofa, love seat, bench and additional pillows. 1) My salesperson was fired after my order was placed and no one contacted me. I emailed her a few times with no response and finally called the store which is how I found out. I was not transferred to an new representative and had no point person. 2) After waiting over 12 weeks, we had our delivery date set and I gave away our old couches to make room. The day before I got a call that there was a hole in the couch that needed to be repaired and they could either a) not deliver it for 2+ more weeks or b) deliver it and then come back to repair it. 3) The fabric that I decided on with the salesperson was a microsuede that she assured me was the best fabric for a household with young children and pets. It turns out that EVERYTHING sticks to this fabric. Pet hair, lint, blue jean dye. Everything. We have to lint roll the couches daily. 4) I got the Guardsmen protection, but when I filed a claim it was denied. 5) I went to order new covers for the bench cushions and have now been told that the crappy fabric has been discontinued. Great for future customers, but bad for me since now my only option is to pay hundreds of additional dollars to buy a mismatched fabric for the new bench cushions. When I asked for a discount on this new fabric (which has yet to be decided) I was told by the store to call customer service who told me to call the store. I feel like I'm going insane and I really need everyone to know that this is the worst company ever. With the worst customer care/service. I have purchased Ethan Allen furniture 3 times over the years. Yes, they are very pricey, but I will save to buy from them. It is necessary to know your style, and what finish. You will be told what finishes are for particular pieces. I am disappointed in the styles available now, since I look for traditional, not trendy. The salesperson in Austin was very nice and helpful. This isn't a store to make a quick purchase. I have waited over 3 months for my furniture to be made and delivered. It is ok for me, but if you want to buy something to take home now, this isn't the place for you. Ethan Allen is fine furniture! read more

Spent $10,000 on a leather sofa and the leather is the worse quality ever. Don't waste your money. The warranty stinks.

Having previously dealt with Ethan Allen for many previous furniture purchases, and with the Saratoga store for many of those, it seemed like a safe choice. In hindsight it seems many things have changed in the 6 or 7 years since the last purchase. After some consideration and comparing of fabrics, a couch was selected and order in early July. Our salesperson (Sherry) said it would arrive in ~5 weeks. After 9 weeks a few calls were placed asking the status. The calls were not returned. After 10 weeks and a return visit to the store, a call back from our salesperson was promised. The callback did not come. The next visit (and still no contact from our salesperson) led to another represenative finally being able to give us the status (it should arrive in another month!). Finally, more than 3 months after being ordered, it arrived. The person at home who recieved it immediately noticed a few problems: Mainly that the syle of the arms was not what was ordered! Additionally there were some minor fit and finish issues. The delivery represenatives contacted their bosses in this regard and advised them to have it noted on the delivery papers (which it was). If I was there I would have likely refused delivery, which may have avoided some of this (or just led to entirely different headaches). Again, calls to our salesperson were not returned! Finally another visit to the store provided another promise of a callback, but also the contact of Ethan Allen's customer service represenative, and promises that they would make it right! A callback from our salesperson was finally received - she wanted to come and take pictures of the sofa? Repeated back and forth calls to their customer service rep led to eventually being referred back to the salesperson (customer service only handles warranty issues, and this wasn't a warranty issue). Upon ending the last call with their customer service I was told that the store manager would call me back later that day. As usual, no call came. The following day I was called by the salesperson Sherry. I was again told that she wanted to take pictures... etc. I explained that I did not see the point in that and I was interested in knowing when I would be receiving the sofa that I ordered! Amazingly, I was then told that the customer has to take responsibility for what they ordered! I will still attempt to talk to the manager, but based on previous experience I do not think it's likely that such a callback will ever happen. Fortunately, I have a good deal of documentation on everything that has happened, another witness that was present at the time of ordering who remembers the details, and am confident in letting it be sorted out in Court. So - in summary from my experience, if you happen to shop here, expect far less than terrible customer service, and be ensure you have legal recourse to actually get what you get (well after it was promised). Worst customer service ever! I am 9 months pregnant and was shopping for a high-quality rocking chair with my mother. Upon entering the store, we were greeted by a saleswoman, and told her what we were shopping for. She told us to "look around, and somebody will be with you shortly", then went back to sitting at a desk doing nothing. We saw three other saleswomen in the store, only one of whom was with a client. At least one saleswoman was making a personal phone call. Nobody greeted us, asked if we needed help, or helped us find the three rocking chairs displayed in the store as we browsed. As we left, the same woman who greeted us when we arrived watched us leave and didn't speak to us to ask if we had found what we were looking for, thank us for shopping there, or say goodbye. I would have been the third generation in my family to buy furniture from Ethan Allen, but I was so disgusted with the complete lack of service and rude staff that I left the store convinced that I will never shop at Ethan Allen. In this economy, I am astounded that salespeople don't feel compelled to make an effort to give every customer (especially someone obviously pregnant and in need of assistance) the utmost service possible. Statistically, if someone is happy with service, they tell 3-4 people. When they are unhappy, they tell 10-12. I am so unhappy, I am telling all Yelpers in the Bay Area: do not shop at Ethan Allen. Update: in the past week, Yelp has filtered out four 1-star reviews (including this one), and thus the overall rating of this store has increased. read more

I have been shopping for a sectional for my family room for some time. Frieda at Ethan Allen took the time to find out exactly what would work best in my home. In fact, she came out to my home to see my space and take measurements. Then, back at the store, she helped me identify which sectionals would work best for my space and which leather would look good with my other furnishings. I really appreciate Frieda's expertise since it is a very important decision to buy the right furniture, and I didn't want to make a mistake. Thanks, Frieda, for all of your help! read more

What do you call an over priced furniture store with poor client service? If you answered Ethan Allen, you are absolutely right! While my review is in particular for this store on Prospect Rd my experience at a couple of other EA stores has only been a little better. So I suspect the poor quality of service is pervasive and endemic of this company. The quality of the furniture itself appeared to be decent and comparable with other stores such as Thomasville (although EA's prices are higher for comparable quality). Here are specific attributes I experienced: somewhat pretentious sales women (I did not interact with any men hence the specific reference), no follow-through on commitments, little interest in listening to the customer and more interest in pushing what they believe the customer should buy. I am a sophisticated buyer and each of these attributes individually are a turn-off. Collectively they are a disaster. While I had my eyes set on some furniture from this store I eventually had to go to Thomasville and buy from the store there. The specific design their wasn't my first choice (EA had a better design) but I did not want to reward shoddy service with my business. Neither the original sales woman that I discussed my needs at the store (and multiple calls), nor the manager of the store for whom I left a message to call me back followed through. At this rate, I would hope their business runs out of steam, or they fire the poor customer service people and infuse some fresh blood that are customer-centric. The only redeeming feature about EA is they have good traditional designs. If you are absolutely desperate for one of their specific designs go ahead and shop with them. If not, find a place where you are as welcome as your money. read more

We had heard a lot about Ethan Allen, but our experience left a lot to be desired for. 1. Time estimate is very random and vague. We were told we will get the furniture in 3 months, but only got it after 4.5 months (after multiple follow ups, credit card dispute etc). Remember, their contract has nothing in it that holds them accountable to deliver it in a specific time. If it takes them a year, you still need to pay them! 2. I cant recall the designer's name, but she was a pain. She never called us to let us know the status. There were no call backs either. It was a black hole till they had our furniture ready. Then they threatened us with legal consequences if we cancelled. 3. Overall very bad customer experience. Would never recommend this store or brand to anyone :-( read more

Sales/Designer Associate Nearly Caused Disastrous Situation Summary: 1 Star: Sales/Designer Associate Knowledge 5 Stars: Delivery Folks 4 Stars: Promptness of Custom Order 3 Stars: Quality of Sofa Details: Poor Sales/Designer Associate Knowledge ------------------------------------------------------------ We ordered the Ethan Allen Hartwell Loveseat for our nursery because the bench cushion would be convenient for nursing twins. We are fairly detailed oriented so we were very careful and conservative with the doorway measurements to the bedroom. We told the design associate that the loveseat would not fit through the doorway due to the long 8"+ legs. She confidently assured us that the legs screw off easily. Great, we thought, the sofa will fit comfortably through the door without the legs. Lo and behold, when the delivery guys showed up, they told us the legs do NOT in fact screw off. Uh oh. Seems like the design associate was willing to say anything to make a sale. Great Delivery Guys --------------------------- The delivery guys showed up early. We told the delivery guys that the loveseat wouldn't fit with the legs. They still wanted to try it out. After a while of trying all possible permutations, they suggested going through the bedroom window. Bingo, the loveseat barely fit through the window. These guys were super careful to make sure they didn't damage the loveseat or anything in our house. They were also very polite. We gave them a well deserved tip when they were finished. So we're relieved the loveseat could be placed in the room, but now we're stuck with a HUGE hassle in the future if we ever want to rearrange the nursery and move the loveseat to another room when the kids grow older. If we had known this, we would never have purchased the loveseat. Promptness of Custom Order ---------------------------------------- Our loveseat was ready and available weeks before the timeframe Ethan Allen quoted us for a custom order. In fact, it was ready so early, we had to ask them to hold it for us a couple of weeks while we finished minor remodel in the room. Quality of Sofa -------------------- The sofa looks pretty nice. It was just delivered today so don't know how well it will hold up. My biggest concern is the smell. It off-gasses a strong odor, which smells like some toxic chemical. We've had the windows wide open all day with two fans blowing on it, and it still smells STRONG. I'm hoping it will smell better after a few weeks. read more

This review is for the store that is closing it's door at Almaden, San Jose. Specifically the "designer" by the name of Pia. I visited the store December 16th, 2015 and asked if they might be having a post Christmas sale because I was interested in purchasing a matching sideboard for my dining table. I was told they were not, so I ordered the sideboard and two weeks later I received an email from this person stating that this store would be closing early January and that particular sideboard would be sold off the floor for $300 less. I went to the store on their first day of the closing sale and spoke with the manager who refused to sell me the floor model even though he admitted that the staff had known that the closing sale was imminent. So I am now awaiting the sideboard that was ordered and have been told that it will not be delivered until "sometime" in February. I can honestly say their furniture is well made and my style, I have purchased many items from this Company and have always been extremely satisfied with the quality. But I think they could have been more honest and sold me the item I requested on the closing day sale. The manager is a very disappointing customer service representative of this store and it doesn't surprise me that the store is closing. As far as this "designer" is concerned I can only say her lack of integrity surprised me and I will never deal with her again. Be warned!!! read more

She made the entire process easy and seamless. She even helped pull the bathroom palette together! (No $ on this one ) Couldn't ask for more!!!. Ethan Allen always put out quality furniture - it's the same this time as well. The person who does the delivery scheduling was super nice and sweet and the delivery guys were really professional. It was our luckiest day ever when we went to Ethan Allen (Prospect Road) to purchase couches for our living room because we met Dayna! She is so friendly and full of personality! We were a little overwhelmed when we walked through the the store because there are so many choices, but Dayna came to our rescue! She is extremely knowledgeable and helped us to choose the perfect couch, loveseat, and ottoman for our home. We showed her pictures of our carpet and paint, and she picked a beautiful and comfy fabric with perfect accent pillows. We are so pleased with our new living room couches. We always choose Ethan Allen when we buy furniture for our home because we want the best! I am looking forward to returning to Ethan Allen to see Dayna about additional accent pillows. read more

It is the worst purchase that I have ever made. I bought a bed from Ethan Allen. After I put a mattress on top of it, 2 of the 3 drawers cannot be opened! After contacting Ethan Allen I was suggested to buy a bunkie board to make it work. I refused. After a in-home visitation I was told that bunkie board is not needed, and the problem can be fixed by just adjustment. But when technician came I was told that adjustment cannot fix it. The drawers need to be sent back and resize it. It gave me too much concern. Then Ethan Allen store got out of reach! No email response, phone call not working. I had to go store in person TWICE to deal with the issue. I asked for a full return/exchange but was given in-store credit which can only be used in store within 45 days. It is so unacceptable! Now all of the drawers cannot be opened. It is definitely a design defect! But Ethan Allen is not willing to take the responsibility! read more

I was a loyal customer of EA for 18 years. Unfortunately, my recent experience was very disappointing. The "manager" I worked with didn't understand basic math, was unable to communicate store policies, promised one thing and then called a week later to tell me corporate wouldn't allow her to do "said thing." The CEO, Farooq Kathwari, has an interesting story to tell (check out his memoir) about his journey from the mountains of Kasmir to becoming a titan in industry, but I wonder if his focus has wavered. The company is making a boat load of $$$ so I'm unclear about what has happened to their product(s) and their employee's capabilities. It's a shame that I will never shop at EA again especially with 75% of their products being made in North America. read more

First of all, I still like the store sales. She is nice and effective and patient. The star is only for her. I would give zero star to the furniture, so so disappointing... I ordered a dinning set and only after two days, the paint came off here and there (only at one place, I tried to remove some white stuff around a dimple and used a dull nail, the paint is off badly). Well the argument from the customer service is that, this is fine furniture and you are not supposed to touch it. I mean, who buys a fine dining table to have a cover on it so that it won't be touched. Not mention the 23+ dimples on the surface, said it is for stress. I am such a fool to spend big money thinking buying something durable, instead it is worse than any wood furniture for a small fraction of the price. Not any more piece from Ethan Allen. read more

She's very knowledgeable and assisted me in purchasing the right set in a beautiful stain for the table in combination with a fun fabric for the chairs. Also, I had an issue with cushions on a couch purchase from a couple of years ago and she helped me to get a replacement covered under warranty. I would recommend Dayna for future purchases! I would not recommend ever buying any furniture from any Ethan Allen Store. They do not stand behind their products. I spent $3,000 for a sofa for my living room. This sofa was only used occasionally, within less than 5 years the material began to pull apart on the trim of the cushions. Mind you that I did flip and rotate these cushions on a regular basis. I called both the store and their corporate office, they refused to help in any way. Their only suggestion was to have the sofa recovered by another manufacturer. I have other furniture much older than 5 years from other manufactures that is used on a daily basis and the material on the chairs and are still in perfect condition. I will never recommend Ethan Allen to anyone. Their quality of furniture is cheap and their customer service after you purchase doesn't exist. NOT HAPPY. We have purchased a lot of Ethan Allen furniture over the years and have always been pleased with the quality and timeless style. We ordered a dresser the first week in January and still have not received it. It has been delayed two times. What is frustrating is the lack of customer service at the Saratoga location. This is an independantly owned franchise and I'm wondering if maybe the standards for customer care are lower. Poor communication. Poor follow-up. Don't return calls. When you do finally talk to someone, there is no concern whatsoever. I'm not ready to write off Ethan Allen altogether, but I will absolutely NOT SHOP at this location again ... only corporate owned locations from now on. If you order more than one piece of furniture, and the partial order comes in, they want you to pay for ALL the furniture to deliver the items they have received. They will tell you that the other remaining item is "in transit" to arrive on a specific date in a few weeks. So you think, ok...I will pay and will take delivery of the furniture they do have. They are a reputable company, right? However, the final piece does not come in and nobody (from the saleswoman to the folks at the corporate office, will tell you when the item will arrive). So you have paid for furniture you do not have and they will not refund you or allow you to cancel the item. You have to restock it, which means you pay 33% the cost of the item (though you were given a contract that states 30%) and are then refunded the difference. However, they have not built the item, so what do they have to restock? So you are expected to just wait for some unspecified amount of time for a product that is paid in full, yet never comes in. I am at 5 months from my initial order. The entire staff, from the top down, are rude and of no help to the customer. There is not a product in this world that is worth the hassle and upset this company has put me through. They do not have the right to take my money and fail to deliver the product. Yet, that is exactly what they have done. Bottom line, Yelpers--do not buy furniture from this company! The company, from top to bottom, are unethical shysters that do not deserve your hard earned money. Their furniture is not worth the hassle, upset, or money they levy on you. BEWARE. read more

Very bad customer service on the phone. Our furniture has arrived in their store a month late and now the only delivery options they have are the next two Saturdays when we are not at home. This store made shopping a pleasant experience. The receptionist attended me when I walked in the store, and I had about 10 minutes to browse before a sales rep came to help me. The ten minutes was about the right time as I like to compare pieces before I ask questions. The sales rep., Gretchen, was courteous, knowledgeable, and very easy to talk with. She suggested a piece I hadn't seen, and that ended up being the piece that I bought. The price was higher than other furniture stores, but not much higher, and very reasonable for the quality of furniture. I saw that the joints were doved tailed, and the drawers had ball bearings, and best of all, it had all the shelves I was looking for. I had read the yelp reports for this store, and was apprehensive about the shipment dates and delivery dates. As it turned out, the piece arrived 3 weeks before it was promised. The only downside was that the sales rep. went through the receipt writing very quickly, and when I asked why she hadn't written a delivery date, she answered that I would be picking up the piece rather than it being delivered. Afterwards, I thought I should have insisted on a date, but as I said, it was ready to be picked up 3 weeks early. I picked up the piece today, and saved $75 in delivery fee. It was worth it to me. i suggest you get a map of the pick up warehouse, as mapquest lead me astray. I called and they explained how to find it by going to Monterrey Road, and turning right on Barnard. read more

Reading the posts here, I have to add my "two cents". I believe the "Sherry" you're all talking about works at the Saratoga Store and she spells her name "Sherri", and I believe she is no longer there as of a week or so ago. She should NOT be confused with "SHERRY" at the Blossom Hill store, who is one of top Ethan Allen interior specialist in the Bay Area. She came out and did a house call, took pics, designed a layout, and when we came to the store, had a showcase all set up with potential fabrics for the furniture we wanted. Her color pallette is fabulous, and she quoted us 8-12 weeks delivery because, as she explained, it is made in the U.S. and shipped from the East Coast along with many other customer orders, and the truck stops along the way to drop off orders to other Ethan Allen stores. We got our furniture within the time period she quoted and it looks fantastic in our home. She was also recommended by a friend and that's why we used her. From my understanding, Ethan Allen is the only U.S. manufacturer left and also uses REAL WOOD and not pressboard like so many others, and that's why their furniture lasts for so many years. You get what you pay for, right? Anyway, I will buy Ethan Allen furniture again and use Sherry "with a Y" again as well. read more

STAY AWAY FROM ETHAN ALLEN. My wife and I have purchased many pieces of Ethan Allen furniture over the years - and we love what we have - but something is taking this company downhill - BIG TIME. We went by this store and ordered a table and 3 chairs - I mean how difficult can it be to buy a tablet and 3 chairs? Right? And have the sales person keep us updated (nope, they NEVER called), delivered in time (nope - delays and delays), built properly (nope - really poor joint construction), delivered undamaged (nope - table & chairs scratched in multiple places), with a pleasant attitude (nope - and this made it even worse), or even handle a customer service complaint properly (nope - they just do not care). The entire process from order entry, to follow up, to delivery, to re-delivery, to...geesh it was so bad it was embarrassing. I called the main customer care # and the rep was SO CONCERNED that she actually never called me back. :-) We plan to stay away from EA until they overhaul their company leadership and re-learn how to delight customers with great product and great service. read more

We ordered EVERYTHING for an entire living room makeover in 2006/07. (And, it's a huge living room in our Victorian cottage style farmhouse) Sofa, loveseat, 4 chairs, ottoman, 2 huge rugs, custom pillows, custom Roman shades for two huge bay and side windows...everything was custom. Anyhow, the quality has been just OK, but the very expensive shades need cleaning and I am having my house painted right now. I am having difficulty finding someone to clean these very expensive custom shades. So, I called the Oakridge number in San Jose where everything was purchased for assistance. The phone was on Holiday mode. (4:45 pm on a Friday in Feb--no holiday) So, then I called number at their Service Center where I received an almost helpful but then a very curt response from Ceeta. She offered to get back to me in a few days with the fabric content of the window coverings, but told me that MANY customers spend a lot of money with them. Very strange response. Long story short, their employees are curt, disrespectful and anything but customer service oriented. We are about to remodel our home again. I will NEVER shop at Ethan Allen again. I like working with a happy helpful staff that offers solutions ...anywhere I shop. There is an arrogance here that has no explanation... read more

I've had ethan allen furniture for years, so when it was time to upgrade to a new bed, my first choice was this store. This will definitely be the last time I ever purchase any piece of furniture from ethan allen. I bought a headboard, and had asked the sales lady if any frame would fit the headboard I was purchasing. She reassured me several times that any frame would fit their headboards. I purchased the headboard, and waited several weeks for the lady to finally call me with a delivery date. When the headboard was delivered, I realized that they had not even included the bolts to hook the frame into. I called the store, and they said they would have to talk to the services guys to see what they could do. After several days of calling back and forth, the sales lady said that I would need to go to home depot to purchase my own bolts, AND that if the frame and headboard don't fit I would have to bring in a plumber to drill into my brand new headboard. I told her that it was absolutely ridiculous that they would not provide me with bolts, especially since they should come with the headboard, and that there was no way I would drill a hole into my brand new $450 headboard. She said that she would talk to the store manager, Richard Bloomfield, to resolve the issue. After 2 weeks of going back and forth with the store, I finally spoke to him. He said that he would only take the headboard back for store credit and that it wasn't their problem if my frame and headboard weren't fitting. I told him that his sales lady specifically told me any frame would fit that headboard, and again, he said it wasn't his problem. He said if I didn't have anything to use my store credit for, I could always give it as a gift certificate to someone else. The manager wasn't helpful at all, and didn't care that I had spent money on something that wasn't fitting. The only reason I'm giving this store 2 starts is because Gretchen, the sales lady I worked with, was very kind to me and worked very hard to find different avenues of making the bed fit. I've had better experience here than I did at the Pleasanton design center. Personalities at Pleasanton really go out the door...talk about snoots over there! I can't really say anything negative about Saratoga since I haven't ordered furniture from this place in a long time. But I've been getting accessories and I can honestly say that the minute I walked in, I was greeted with smile from many of the designers that were there and they had assigned someone to me by the name of MICHELLE. She was with a client but assured me she'd be over to help me soon. She did and I got some items off the floor and purchased them. Everything went smoothly and quickly with MICHELLE. She was really a nice designer to work with. Very pleasant and everything was done quickly which surprised me. At EA Pleasanton they are very slow and I mean it can literally take an hour before you even get down to the pricing. So I bought many things here and forgot about the Pleasanton store! Anyway, again this is based on my exp. just recently and I had only purchased accessories since I have the furniture from many years ago and British Classics from then still look good today. So there's really no need for me to buy and if I do, I will do it online instead. EA really needs to speed things up and good to see something different here compared to Pleasanton. But this old method way really bugs me.. We all have busy lives and they need to have cash registers already and learn to cater to the younger generation and definitely teach all designers to learn to work with the younger crowd, smile and not give anyone the cold shoulder just because they don't look rich enough. The managers also need to work hard to change their ways and attitudes and teach all their designers to work better with clients because without the clients, they will have no jobs and EA will be out of business. read more
