It is downstairs on the first floor and has a beautiful little patio too very large bedrooms one with a queen bed one with a king bed a very large living room and a kitchen with a dining room table. Our recent stay at Inn at 161 was fantastic. Just a short walk from the downtown's Main Street, the Inn has a rustic, "bed and breakfast" feel to it. And yes, they do provide a delicious complimentary breakfast. We booked a suite, complete with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub, and it was wonderful. The room was quiet, large and clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the two-headed shower was a nice treat. The bathroom, which had a chandelier, was as big as some hotel rooms. The grounds are also beautiful. Staff is helpful and friendly. Obviously, we enjoyed our stay as it was a great way to spend a weekend in the Foothills. read more

My first stay at an inn, and I couldn't have chosen a better place! This charming historic looking house mixes modern comfort with antique character. The rooms were clean, tastefully furnished with wooden pieces, and the whole place looked freshly painted. It didn't have that "old house" smell or feel; it was cozy, not dated. The woman running things was especially friendly and helpful. I had requested an early check-in but completely missed my own time slot, and she still greeted us warmly without any issue. The dining area felt homey, and the continental breakfast was surprisingly good. It was fresh, and satisfying. The garden was lovely too, with fountains, flowers, and brick walkways. It was raining during our visit, so we couldn't sit outside, but it looked like a peaceful spot to relax. The room itself had great touches: a gas fireplace that turned on with a switch, a super soft bed, deep tub for a nice hot bath, and even Netflix streaming available on the TV. The location was also ideal, just a short five-minute walk to downtown Sutter Creek. Everything about the stay was comfortable and easy. My son and I stayed here and we really enjoyed it! The owner was super nice and helped us with some suggestions of things to do in town. Our room was very clean, very comfortable and spacious. They offer a continental type breakfast. We didn't eat, but did enjoy the delicious orange juice. It is within walking distance of downtown. Room was cold at checkin 55 F. We were told that heater was on for 3 hours and the was the best it could do. When I asked the staff first a refund I was told "I can't give you a refund, I'm not the owner" The woman working there brought in two space heaters which promptly knocked out power to the room. We finally got our refund after that. Staff attitude was rude and argumentative. read more

My wife and I returned to The Inn at 161 again this year.Kerry and Mary are such great hosts and care about making your stay the best experience that they can.We had a different room, #3 , which not only had a fireplace, but a claw foot tub/shower!!! Once again the accommodations were excellent, well maintained rooms and out side areas.The continental breakfast was very accommodating, coffee, cappuccino, espresso?? They offer a great breakfast area, bagel station, fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, and great seating areas to enjoy your choices of each! We were able to walk to the downtown area and a couple of wine tasting ( olive oil as well) locations.Tried a couple of new restaurants, and still favor Teresa's Italian, hard to beat for food and ambiance! We did try a great local pizza restaurant, Gold Dust......one of the best pizza ever!! AVOID THIS PLACE! We stayed one night. That part was fine, although in truth it had been much better when we stayed in the past under different ownership. But HERE'S where you get a real sense of the place. My wife and I had to leave unexpectedly due to an extreme family emergency. We notified Mary very early at 8:30am on the morning of our 2nd day (PLENTY of notice to re-rent room if that's what they wanted), who told us that if it was up to her she'd certainly provide a refund for 2nd night, but it was up to Kerry, the GM, who'd be in later. Long story short, even explaining everything, providing early notice, a note, and a followup call from the road home, we were turned down flat. THIS PLACE FEIGNS CARING ABOUT IT'S GUESTS, BUT IT'S ALL A HOLLOW ACT. No real compassion, just a pretty craven money grab. I say this having owned several successful businesses. You can ALWAYS do right by your customers. So, in summary, we arrived at 5pm, left at 9am, hardly mussed the sheets, didn't even take showers, and were forced to pay for 2 nights. Needless to say, we'll never be back. There are too many other better alternatives. And, it really isn't about the money at all but the lack of empathy, caring and, most of all, class. I never write negative reviews, but I just had to this time. BUYER BEWARE with this place. read more

This is one of those cute places off the main road that we have driven past for many years. For our anniversary this year, my husband booked two nights here. It's not only beautiful, but the managers were so friendly and fun. They made everyone feel at ease! They have a lovely wine and charcuterie each evening, and a nice light breakfast bar in the morning. The decor is beautifully Victorian. It was so quiet! Most of us staying here we're middle aged, but there was a wedding party of cute younger people who were very respectful. I have to say, we have never stayed in a cleaner place. May I say, AMAZING!! My husband found this little piece of heaven online for a really good price! We stayed 2 nights during the week and once we arrived the host greeted us right away and got us all checked in! The room was so fresh and clean and just beautiful. Like home away from home! I wasn't even scared to sleep on the sheets or use the pillows or blankets provided because the lien's were so clean and fresh (I typically bring my own pillows and sheets and blankets on any trip I go on. Yes I know, I am weird but I am a germ freak lol). In the morning, she provides a nice Continental breakfast to all her guest. The breakfast consists of yogurt parfaits, boiled eggs, bagels, and cream cheese, oatmeal with brown sugar and cranberries, and a nice hot cappuccino. Boy that was such a nice start to our day! My husband couldn't even wait for breakfast to come in the morning the night before. That's how good it was. Now the ONLY suggestions we have is, maybe providing a two-step little bench for the bathtub because it has such a high side to it that it's kind of hard to get into the tub because you don't have anything to really grab on to or hold on to getting in and then when your exiting the tub, the floor is a bit far down so you kinda lose your balance as getting out of the tub if you're not prepared for it. I did loose my footage and caught myself by the sink. Thank goodness. Now we stayed in room #3 and the bed was super and I mean super soft and you sleep in a indentation in the mattress where others have slept over and over so maybe it's needing a new mattress or maybe a flip. One last suggestion, maybe putting a small radio in the dining room on low playing some Frank Sinatra or some oldies but goodies for breakfast so it kinda breaks up the silence in the room and helps people fill comfortable carrying on a conversation with each other. These are just a few suggestions we thought we would share. Loved this place. My wife and I booked a king room for our anniversary. Kari checked us in and was very helpful. She gave us a couple of vouchers for local wine tasting (Rancho Victoria - check them out) and that didn't disappoint. She was also great the next morning during the breakfast served there. My son and I stayed there for two nights over the weekend and it was marvelous! I work very hard, long shifts in healthcare and I'm in graduate school. I rarely get time away, let alone an entire weekend. The staff at the inn made our stay very special. They were so welcoming and attentive. The afternoon reception and charcuterie tray was a nice touch and the breakfast spread was great. I'm sure the wine was lovely too-I just don't drink. In the morning the staff made espresso drinks to order (which is more up my alley) and the bagel toaster was really neat. The house itself is gorgeous as was our room. My absolute favorite part (and my sons) was the working fireplace in the room (it had a gas insert which worked very well). I would recommend going in the cold months so you can take advantage of this cool feature. I loved the k-cup machine in the room too. All the rooms have flat screen t.v.'s equipped disney+ and Netflix accounts (awesome, right?) and the wifi works well. There is only one drawback it's the fact that you can hear everything going on in the adjacent room. I could clearly make out what my neighbors were saying, particularly when they were in their bathroom. I believe much of the sound was coming through the vents. I wonder how they would have felt knowing someone could hear what they were saying lol! Awkward...We were in a downstairs room and it got pretty loud when the people were moving around upstairs. Especially when they were getting ready at 5:00am in the morning and packing their bags. That's the price you pay for hardwood floors in all the rooms-there is no sound insulation between the floors (maybe bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper). So between the upstairs neighbors and the people next to us it got pretty loud, but I didn't care. I don't mind knowing there's people and life around me. If I wanted sound insulation and a padded stuffy room with gross wall-to-wall carpeting and no character I would go stay at the Best Western. The inn is located very near downtown Sutter Creek and we walked to Main Street several times a day for brunch and dinner. I love strolling around historic Sutter Creek and looking at all the beautiful buildings and Victorian homes. The inn is located directly across the street from the sweetest little white chapel and I loved looking out the window at it and transporting myself back in time. We also strolled down to the creek and spent time in the lovely little park down by the water. We walked to the coffee shop Backroads every day and had the best home baked cookies I think I've ever had. The inn also has charming grounds and gardens which I imagine are lovely in the spring and summer. Our weekend getaway to the Inn at 161 and Sutter Creek was a memory I will cherish forever. Cute B & B off the main road going into town/shops. Totally gives you that small town vibe. Parking is on a first come basis for the lot but you can park on the street. Ck-in and ck-out was easy; key pad to enter but a key to get in your room. Wine and a charcuterie board were available from 4-5 p.m. the room was clean for the most part. Towels were the only thing missing but that was quickly taken care of and they were super apologetic. The bed was SUPER comfortable and loved how they had Netflix-no need to log into your personal acct. Walking distance to the shops and restaurants. read more

We were looking for a quick getaway and came across The Inn at 161. Being midweek the rates were quite reasonable so we booked for one night. We were greeted by our friendly host, checked in and told to come back down for our welcome glass of wine and charcuterie board which was excellent. The room was lovely, spacious and spotless. Comfy bed and gas fireplace. Our host was super nice, the continental breakfast was tasty and filling. I loved the yogurt parfait! The grounds are lovely, a short walk from a historic old church where I enjoyed walking around the old cemetery. We loved our stay here, ended up staying a second night, and plan to come back in the future. read more

b.y.o.b.= BRING YOUR OWN BLEACH! I booked room 11, the king suite, after looking for a stay that had a spa tub in the room and a private balcony. The gift of a birthday retreat for my husband disappointed. I filled the tub enough to run the jets 3 times. Each time thinking that the black chunks, hair, slime clumps, and tan/red debris would be flushed through, but it just kept coming out. After trying for hours, I had to give up. Furthermore, the balcony was swarming with wasps and there was a large nest in the chain attached to the door, making it impossible to open the door without disturbing them, preventing us from exiting onto the balcony. When I informed management about the issues I was told there was a reoccurring issue with the spa tub and was offered an insencere apology. I was told it needed to be flushed with bleach every few months. I guess that gets rid of other people's dead skin cells, hair, and whatever other grossness that should be cleaned after each use! As far a response about the wasps, I was assured the staff would be careful. read more

Got the "suite" and the A/C nor the WiFi worked. Jenae was kind enough to move us to a smaller room but at least everything worked. Next morning we were greeted by a woman questioning my claim the WiFi didn't work. It took another woman (who was white) to confirm the validity of my story. No apology or anything. When I checked out without eating the provided breakfast and asked for a receipt the apology was there but I told her it was too late. Then without asking for a refund she said I'd have to talk to someone else about a refund. I just wanted the receipt! Then she claimed I was yelling at her as I was trying to explain my side. The belligerence, lack of empathy, and overall entitled attitude of the morning lady makes this place a no-go for everyone except white baby boomers. read more

We were looking for a mother/daughter getaway and Grey Gables was recommended by a friend. WOW!! I have never...ever...stayed in such a lovely place. And, I have stayed in many a B&B. Roger & Sue are such a sweet English couple who built and started this Inn in 1996. The attention to detail is amazing and CLEAN...I have never seen a place anywhere so shiny clean. The Inn is well maintained, and decorated. Because the Inns sits on Old 49 which is a main road, I requested a quiet room. When checking in I asked for a quiet room. I was given a room on the first floor at the front of the Inn. I could hear road noise as well I could hear the people in the next room talking as though they were in our room. If not for the issue of noise, our room and the Inn were very nice and within walking distance of downtown. read more

The Inn at 161 in Sutter Creek, California was perfect. I have no suggestions for a better experience and nothing to criticize. I recently traveled with two of my sisters and we stayed only one night but would have liked to have stayed much longer. My husband was not with me for this trip; however, without a doubt he would have approved of this Inn (And he is not easy to impress). It was impeccably clean, Carrie the owner is such a gracious and personable hostess (and called me to tell me the room was ready for us earlier than the afternoon checkin). We stayed in the two bedroom suite with a full kitchen and living room. It was so quiet and peaceful. Both the King and Queen Beds were so comfortable. This is a terrific property in the Mother Lode. Very well-maintained and historic home with historic updated rooms added to the home's original building. Terrific property manager, "the best ever." Home prepared continental breakfast, not the usual commercial stuff whatsoever. Personal attention and service to our breakfast. Exceptionally clean and well maintained property in a natural historical setting. No pets or smoking, which is a great plus for us. This is the nicest and best place we've ever stayed over the years, on our Highway 49 trips. Secure, exceptionally clean, inside access to the rooms, comfortable, historical, setting, and grounds, air conditioning, wide screen TV with all the entertainment channels available. I found this diamond in the rough about 2 years ago while visiting family in the Amador county area. Very clean hotel on all levels, quiet neighborhood, many amenities as expected from a quality hotel, it is an older building with a feel of grandmothers home- giving u a comfort n sweetness to ur stay, topped off w an attentive staff. Loved the hospitality by everyone there. I Just stayed for a quick in n out stay the other nite. Carrie the manager, kindly offered to leave me some breakfast in the fridge as I was departing at 5AM. I walked into the kitchen to find a really great note thanking me for staying, also with a few goodies on a nice tray and a mention of yogurt n OJ in the fridge. I just love this place and will continue to stay there when I'm back in the rustic quaint wonderful gold mining era town. U'll love it too, trust! read more
