My daughter and I came to Sutter Creek yesterday. She REALLY wanted to try the brunch at the hotel. I really hope this is the right spot. The staff was so kind and friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We decided to get the Pig, Fig & Goat Bavarian Pretzel and the Wedge Salad with Steak. I know, not even a brunch item! Lol We sat upstairs outside overlooking the Main Street it was a beautiful day. Ya'll this was HANDS DOWN, the best pretzel I have EVER eaten! It came with little sides of goat cheese infused with honey, a warm beer cheese dip, fig jam, candied pecans, and prosciutto. I cannot even describe how fantastic these flavors were on this it was incredible!! Then the Wedge Salad. The dressing was amazing it was like a ranch and blue cheese dressing. Let me start by saying we always love to visit gold country. It is rich with history and we love the small town atmosphere and supporting local businesses. Sutter Creek is such a great little town with lots of fun shops and fun events that you can attend if you time it right. Check the Sutter Creek website for event dates and times! We booked a superior king room last minute to just get out of town for the holiday weekend and it did not disappoint. While the hotel is historic they have updated with some modern flair here and there without losing the charm of the town. The room was cozy with a couch that pulls out to a bed and of course the king size bed for additional guests. Bathroom a was a little small with a shower but was clean and good for just the two of us. The bed was comfortable and bedding was warm and cozy. We were worried as it was probably one of the first cooler nights with fall/winter but it was perfect. Check in is at 3 pm and was super simple. They have a pre check in process that you can do to make check in faster when you arrive. There is a small parking lot in the back of the hotel that is first come first served but we had no problem getting a spot. We made dinner reservations at the hotel restaurant when we completed the pre check in. We had drinks and snacks at the lobby bar a few hours before dinner and it was great! The Pig Fig N Goat was delicious! It is a warm Bavarian pretzel served with fig jam, honey, prosciutto, goat cheese, pecans and beer cheese. We also had a few cocktails, wine and beer that were tasty. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about the spirits they had. We try an old fashioned at most places we travel and this one had great flavor and lovely aromatics. Overall the stay was wonderful and we will definitely be back. read more

On a Sunday afternoon at the bar at the Sutter Creek Hotel, another customer pushed me while my daughter was in the restroom. I am a 77-year-old woman, and the situation was upsetting and unacceptable. When my daughter reported it to the bartender, he shrugged his shoulders and took no action. There was no concern and no attempt to address what happened. Physical behavior like this should never be ignored, and staff indifference makes the environment feel unsafe. We did our fist stay in Sutter Creek and decided to go old school and stay at this vintage inn. Making a res was easy, were greeted with a smile, given our keys and made our way to the room. There are 2 floors of rooms, all with actual keys so you won't leave without them and a VERY slow elevator (cute sign on the side memeing it!) The room itself was clean, but small. None of the doors stayed open (makes it a challenge when you're putting things in the closet and it gets dark...quick. Bathroom was decent, save for the narrow sink with a glass shelf right above which made washing you face a gymnastic event. As with other reviewers, avoid Room 201 unless you are deaf and don't go to bed until after 11. It's located right over the bar, on the street, your windows open on to a public balcony with shades that don't really cover the entire window. Maybe because we booked through an online service we were not given the best, but we made the best of it. That said, bar closes at 10, stragglers usually quieted down around 11 and the town was dead quiet by midnight. We will try other accommodations on our next stay in Sutter Creek, there a quite a few options. read more

Wow!! Such a pleasant surprise. One of the most beautiful old towns maintained and so clean. Arriving to the hotel everybody was so kind and hospitable.. Inside was so gorgeous. The room was beyond our expectations with many added lil touches. We had dinner reservations and they sat 8 of us with great energy and laughs. Steph was new and a wonderful waitress easy to talk to and always going the extra mile. Amazing dishes and the presentation was great. All our food came at the same time and was fresh and prepared just right. I ordered the New York and Shrimp. A wonderful sauce was prepared for the New York and the Shrimp was also presented in an amazing sauce as well. The bartender made all our drinks to our liking. Our visit to the Hotel Sutter Restaurant on the Balcony was so spur of the moment and we were very pleased! We visited on Easter of all days and we decided on this place because we were walking by looking for somewhere to eat some lunch and heard the music. It pulled us in and the place was busy! We checked in for a table and they said the wait would be about 20 minutes. We went into the bar to grab a drink while we waited. The staff was very friendly and helped us while we waited. We were shown to our table up on the balcony and they turned on the heater for me. There wasn't much going on due to it being a holiday, but it was still such a pretty and fun setting. We put in our food order and it was very good! We appreciated everything being still on point even though it was a holiday, this made our day extra special. read more

We took our out-of-state family to dinner at Hotel Sutter. They were thoroughly impressed by the ambiance, service, presentation, and the taste of their meal. They even ranked it higher than most high-end restaurants they've eaten at. Our dinner order included lamb shanks, ahi tuna salad, shrimp scampi, and prime rib. We stayed at Hotel Sutter several times in preparation for our wedding at The Gardens here in Sutter Creek. We found the rooms to be very relaxing and the renovations gave a modern flare to the bathrooms and were well-done. We saw no flaw in the design and decor, albeit the TV is a bit small if you like to do that at the end of your evening. The rooms are so nice and quiet, and it was absolutely tranquil to sit on the balcony drinking our hot cocoa / tea in the mornings. One of our trips was Valentine's weekend and my husband asked if they could put flowers in our room to surprise me. They were able to accommodate his request for a small fee. I was so surprised and touched when I saw the bouquet when we checked in! The only downside was that I'm very allergic to a specific type of flower and the florist still included that flower in the bouquet, even though my husband advised them of my allergy in advance. I did have an allergic reaction (couldn't breathe), but the hotel was very apologetic and they did refund the fee due to the error. We think it was an honest mistake on the florist's behalf and not the hotel's fault, plus we really appreciated the hotel's genuine response to the mistake, so this is not going to impact our decision to stay here in the future - because we definitely will. I think it is just a testament to their customer service focus that they handled it so well. We also had a lot of fun going to the hotel's Copper Room where we had mixed drinks and charcuterie in this really moody, speakeasy vibe basement. All of the things on the charcuterie board were really tasty and we liked the unique lemonade. The service was also excellent. It was honestly such an amazing experience that we will definitely return for anniversaries! We did speak to the hotel special event admin about guest blocks for our wedding and we really liked the features they offered. They have a gathering area in the hotel and they offer a complimentary shuttle bus to The Gardens for hotel blocks of a certain size. Our wedding was so small that we ultimately didn't do it, but we definitely would have if we had a larger wedding! We also ate at the restaurant several times and the food was incredible. I can't really pick one specific dish that stood out above the others because all of the food we had was so good, but I did have the onion rings, steak salad, burger, and a few other things, and it was all delicious. Plus, our server saw that we were trying to take a selfie one time and was nice enough to offer to take photos for us. Today my wife & I had the munchies and strolled past Hotel Sutter and the chimichurri steak tots caught our attention. We also eyed the Sutter Brussels. Indeed, we ordered both. Service was excellent and we had a nice table with a window street view. The hotel has a great atmosphere and we fun to look around. The Chimichurri Steak Tots are legit! This place was overall great. The bed was comfy, the room was quiet and clean, and we had what we needed. However, we came during a hot part of summer. When you go to your hotel room, even if the building itself is old, you would hope for some retreat from the heat. The lobby, restaurant, and bar were chilled and a great way to get out of the heat. However, the actual room was miserably warm and never fully cooled down with their small wall AC unit. My wife and I were walking through town when we stumbled upon Hotel Sutter. We were treated like royalty with a beautiful table out front in the shade. My wife had the Mahi Mahi and loved the awesome flavor of the fresh Mahi Mahi in their incredible Chimichurry sauce with fresh veggies and a fully loaded bake potato. I had the Chicken Saltimbocca and it was incredibly tasty with their special sauce and my chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto, mozzarella, a garlic butter wine sauce, and some other special ingredients. We decided spur of the moment to get away for the night We had never stayed at Hotel Sutter what a lovely surprise it was! Our room was large, clean and very comfortable . The staff greeted us with a welcoming smile , full of suggestions and explained everything that Hotel Sutter had to offer. We had dinner reservations at the restaurant in Hotel Sutter , once again such a great experience from food, wine choices to desserts to top it off our waiter Aaron was superb he truly made our dining experience very special To top it off I lost a very special piece of jewelry during our stay of which I never expected to find , I called Rebecca (manager ) explained what I had lost and by chance if anyone possibly comes across anything please let me know! I don't know how this place got so many good reviews unless it's the restaurant and not the hotel! The hotel on the outside and lobby appears old fashioned, somewhat charming. The room we stayed in was tiny and overpriced with a lumpy full sized bed. The bathroom floor was sticky feeling and the carpet seems like original from gold rush days. After a fun run to Sutter Creek, checking out the "Farmers Market" we stopped here for lunch. What a hidden treasure, we ordered appetizers, salad and burgers. It was all wonderful. We had the Brussels Sprouts they were amazing. Perfectly cooked with bacon, great seasonings and amazing. We gobbled them down quickly, and then go the hot pretzel with a spicy cheese sauce. I got the Karen Salad, it was great, daughter got a wedge so yummy and of course burger and fries were ordered by hubby. It was all so good and the service great. November 7, 2020 we were married at the Sutter Hotel, Sutter Creek California. We looked at several venues, but this place had charm and personal history as we dined several years for Valentines day dinners. Our wedding was dynamic due to the pandemic and COVID-19 restrictions. We worked with Rebecca Collins, Ruthella Turner, and the Great Taylor. We were able to work out appropriate safety measures for all involved. We had the most magnificent wedding EVER. Anita and I and our guests were incredibly happy with the rooms, food, staff, set up and it was a great wedding! We cannot thank the entire staff enough for all your hard work and making our day the most special event for us. To be honest, when I left Hotel Sutter I wanted to write a positive review. Then, I looked at my bank statement and realized they charged me over $20 more than what I booked the room for online. Apparently, the website was "having issues" when I booked the room, so when I arrived, the front desk had no idea I was coming. There was no sign of my reservation. The receptionist then explained that the price quoted online was some kind of promo or discount price and that she would "correct it". Then, when I gave her my credit card to pay, I was not given a receipt or any indication for what the price of my room was or what I was being charged for it. I honestly was not even thinking that they would charge me more than what I "reserved" the room for. And I was definitely not thinking to ask for a receipt. I've learned my lesson. This was our 1st time at this hisotric well-located hotel smack dab in the midst of shopping, antiques & a "Chocolatte" Coffee shop. Locals meander in & out w/ everyone knowing not only their name, but their dogs as well :) We enjoyed everything under 1 roof, free parking, incredibly friendly yet professional staff who longed to please us. Complimentary breakfast was convienient including packaged waffles you can warm up, & coffee. We enjoyed staying in LUXURY, simply walking downstairs to an INCREDIBLE dinner, strolling along historic streets, and the burbling creek that meanders through this sweet town. Do not come stay here or the town if you are a minority alone. I purchased a hotel room on groupon and thought since I am sometimes gutsy I would come out to Sutter Creek by myself for a little day adventure. I now know to never come here again and will never recommend this area to people of color as I am. Let's talk about the rooms. It was small, clean and cute. I am a small lady so I don't need much. The bed was small which is fine but very squeaky. Also the walls are thin so I could hear people talking downstairs in the restaurant area. The bathroom smelled like pigeon crap ( mainly because there are pigeons that hang out right outside the window and make noise all through the day/night). But the bathroom was updated and the shower was nice. The employees overall were decent not fake nice at all which I might have liked better. The bar staff were just rude. I have been lucky to not experience racism living in big cities my whole life but if you want to stick out and be treated less as a person feel free to come here. read more

Stayed here last month for my sisters wedding. Pros: Cute, clean rooms. Cons: Parking. The rooms are small but were cute and clean. They have a coffee maker inside. Parking is atrocious and doesn't have enough spots if the hotel is at capacity, even if the hotels at half capacity the parking isn't sufficient. Staff was fine. Nothing stands out about them good or bad. Cost is a little pricey for the amenities. read more

Located about 30 miles from Placerville you will find one of THEE coolest places to wine taste and have a great weekend. Sutter Creek is a hidden gem of a place and I can't wait to go back and visit. The room was very clean. It was tiny. When I say tiny I am not exaggerating at all. It is definitely cozy. The bed, albeit small, was cozy. The bathroom had recently been updated and was actually pretty nice. The only other complaint I have is the damn pigeons that have taken over the roof area of the place. They were so annoying and always around to wake you up in the middle of the night. Below the hotel is a basement bar/lounge called The Cellar. We had been here before and just like last time it was so uber cool with great service and an awesome vibe. If you want to get away and go wine tasting without the pretentious bullshit of Napa with friendly service and a memorable time make sure you go to Sutter Creek and stay at the Hotel Sutter. We've stayed at the Hotel Sutter before and were satisfied. The rooms are small but the hotel is in the center of town and the rates are fairly reasonable for the area. We adore Sutter Creek and come here a few times a year for wine tasting and for our favorite breakfast spot, "Element". I'm also a wedding planner and have used it for clients over the years... but never again. We booked a room at the Hotel Sutter for a little romantic Christmas getaway weekend. We have a little blind maltese that comes with us on trips sometimes because she's so easy. We were actually planning on keeping her home this trip, but last minute thought it would be fun to bring her. Before making any decisions though, I called the hotel prior to leaving and asked the front desk if the "hotel was dog friendly for a companion dog". The man who answered said "yes". I reiterated just to be sure that she wasn't a "service dog but was a companion dog" and he still said "yes that's fine go ahead and bring her" so we thought we were set and decided to do so instead of a dog sitter. Upon arrival we first had an issue with them finding our Expedia reservation. I showed them my email confirmation to which they acknowledged the confirmation and the fact that we prepaid for that night but informed us that because they couldn't see our reservation in their system that if we wanted to stay for the night, we would need to rebook a new reservation and pay them for the night directly again. Then we would then need to workout a refund with Expedia. We were like "yeahhhhh no". I called Expedia and after a few minutes the hotel miraculously could see our reservation (which was there the entire time she just looked up our name wrong) allowing the check in process began again after 25 minute+ delay. Then the real ball dropped when they informed us that they required a $250 fee for my dog because they aren't "a dog friendly hotel". I explain that I had called in the morning specifically to find out if they were dog friendly and was told we could bring her and a "fee" was never mentioned. After some back and forth, I asked to speak to the manager. I explained the situation to him again but he wouldn't budge. In fact he asked me at one point of my morning phone call, "well did you get that in writing" to which I replied "seriously, I said I called this morning, it was a phone call. How am I supposed to get that in writing?" to which he just shrugged his shoulders and smirked. I even showed him my phones caller ID showing the date and time I called but he couldn't care less and had no interest in coming to a resolution. It was either pay an extra $250 for a $134 room or go. For goodness sake, I could've paid someone $20 to watch her at my house for the night and wasn't about to pay an extra $250. So we went. I called Expedia again (thank goodness for them) and they refunded my room. I'll get my money back but still, the Hotel Sutter left us stranded in a small town, in the evening, on a holiday weekend because they wouldn't honor their word. Talk about Merry Christmas, no Hallmark movie here folks... keep moving. The lack of moral compass and their willingness to bait and switch for financial gain is astounding. I can honestly see if I just showed up with my dog without calling, that would be different and I would understand, but I did my diligence and I called them. In the end they used the old line "this is a training issue and we will be sure to discuss this with staff to ensure this doesn't happen again" but that's just jargon and doesn't change the fact that we were good reoccurring customers that were left stranded. They will never see mine or my customers business again. Athough accommodations were limited we ended up getting a room at The Days Inn, which is about 3 minutes out of town with bigger rooms, at a lesser cost and a really nice front desk clerk who went out of his way to help us after we told him about the fiasco. People like that actually deserve our business and will get it again with or without our little dog. read more
