Euro Bistro has been around since 1999. A friend and I went to lunch there before Yelp existed. We enjoyed their lunch. At the time their concept was one that offered entrees from different European countries. My friend, who is a vegetarian, was pleased to find an entree that she could eat. Over the years, we never did return there for our lunch meet ups. Nor did my husband and I get there. You know...so many restaurants, so little time. We recently gave thought to the idea of having dinner there. What prompted us was due to picking up a pizza at Marcos, which is next door. We looked up their current menu while we waited for our pizza and liked what we saw. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. Business was slow then but steadily picked up. We were seated and greeted. A server came around to bring water as we looked over the menu. When we were ready to give our order, an older woman, whom we think is the manager came to take it. She was very friendly, polite and efficient. We noticed that she regularly checked on all the diners. The menu is mostly German food with some elements from other cuisines. For example, you can get a Thai iced tea to go with your meal. We started out with an appetizer and chose Caprese salad. This was a simple one with 4 slices of mozzarella, 4 ripe tomato slices and a drizzle of balsamic. We both thought it was well prepared and the portion size was just right for two. Also, a small portion of bread and butter is brought to the table. For my main course, I chose Weinerschnitzel made with white meat chicken. It was accompanied with a small cup of gravy, which was meat based. Also, entrees come with a side of one's choice. I chose German potato salad. My husband got the Sausage Platter which has 3 different sausages---bratwurst, knackwurst, and baurenwurst plus some sauerkraut. He, too, chose German potato salad as his size. Also, a small cup of mustard comes with this dish. As for the food---I thought my Weinerschnitzel was well prepared and arrived while it was hot. This dish comes with 3 thin cutlets. I used the gravy which amped up the flavor. My husband really liked his sausage dish. He enjoyed each sausage and thought the mustard worked well with them. Neither of us cared for the German potato salad. While we appreciate that it is house made, we didn't like how one forkful would taste sweet while the next forkful was sour. Perhaps the dressing hadn't been mixed well. We decided to share a dessert and chose the apple strudel. This was quite tasty. It was tender and easy to cut with a fork and nicely flavored. A small cup of vanilla ice cream comes with it plus a side of whipped cream and the plate was garnished with strawberry syrup. The decor was nice with lots of artwork, including a Van Gogh poster. We enjoyed looking at the art. We both agree that we would return again. If you go, take note as the evening progresses, parking gets tight in the small lot. Just backing out of our spot was stressful. Next time, we would park further away in the same lot in a section that doesn't get crowded. read more

Quiet and quaint. Love the fact that they have a variety of good German biers. The schnitzel was good, I think that they should have included the small salad with the main course and then pick a side...probably a cost cutting measure but it does take away from the meal and experience. Service was average, she kept pressing to order main course even after we ordered the pretzel and wurst appetizer and asked her to wait. So no bonus points there. A work colleague took me here for lunch and you can tell from the Hofbräu Munich flags hanging out the front window and ceilings that you are about to be in for an authentic Austrian/German experience. However, one look at the menu will surprise you: Wienerschnitzel alongside Pork Potstickers. Penne Beef Thai next to Bratwurst. The menu is a true melting pot of cuisines as a nod to the multi-cultural family that owns and runs the establishment. For my first visit I stuck with the Euro Bistro specialties. I got the Jagerschnitzel and it lived up to my expectations. The flattened cut of pork was swimming in a wonderful brown gravy sauce that I tried to sop every little bit of by the end of my meal. We love Euro Bistro. We have been going there for years. It is our favorite "something different" break to our families usual fare. The schnitzel is always authentic and tasty, with a side of spatzle. We always enjoy the fish specials. Our daughter LOVES the stroganoff. And since we have been coming for so long we often order our "off the menu" favorites. Grandma's goto is the Indonesian pork noodles, and I like the shrimp provencal. Like the menu the beer and wine offerings are pleasant diversions from our normal choices at other restaurants. Desserts are tasty as well. It isnt fast food. The relaxed service and the price are consistent with a nice meal to savor. read more

This is our second time at EuroBistro! It seems to me that the diners we saw at lunch were the same group of people we saw there the last time. Regulars are always a good sign! Unlike the first time, the same hostess/ owner was more welcoming! Yippee! It really makes for a better dining experience. On her recommendation, we tried the beef pies/ empanadas for our appetizer. These buttery and flaky pies were filled with a well-seasoned mash of beef and vegetables. I tried the Pork Jaegerschnitzel this time, a generous and tasty meal but I would try the chicken next time because the pork, though not dry, was a tad tough. If we have another craving for German food, I would still go to EB but would like to see what other German restaurants are like. read more

The restaurant was hopping busy! We arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday night. They cleared a table that was used by staff to wrap silverware. It was a mishmash of chairs and tables in close proximity to each other. There was a large group, which bordered on obnoxiously loud. It may be because of the dropped ceilings and lack of soundproofing or a small space with a lot of people. You don't go for ambiance. What it lacks in charming decor is made up 10 fold by the quality of food. My meal was memorable. The sauce/gravy had mushrooms and tasted of bacon and wine. Absolutely stellar. The noodles were as expected and the portions were good. My husband had their Schnitzel, also delicious and filling. They offer a number of German beers and a wide variety of dishes. Their menu isn't just German cuisine, they also have a collection of Asian dishes, which I can't speak to. Honestly, I'd be hard pressed to order anything other than the Jagerschnitzel - it was just that good! Service was good given how packed they were and the food came out hot. read more

Sometimes, we just want food from the "old country". After living in Austria and Germany for many years, we miss the food. Euro Bistro is the closest restaurant that offers any of the main dishes that we miss. Midweek, we went for dinner and had wiener schnitzel. It was more expensive that I expected (i.e., $24), but three large pieces were on the plate with a side dish of our choice. The Austrian wine was still a nice pairing with the schnitzel. All of this brought back many happy memories of many meals in Austria and Germany.....and some previous meals here at Euro Bistro. read more

This past Friday 12/13 we visited this establishment after reading other Yelp review. I was excited to try this place, unfortunately it fell flat. We were seated right away as it was right at the top of the dinner hour. There were a few other patrons already seated. Our server came over and was ready to take our drink orders. We didn't order any appetizers thinking that we didn't want to spoil our appetites or get too full before ordering our entrees. I ordered the stuffed cabbage and my husband ordered Jagerschnitzel. For my dish, I received 3 meatballs, each covered with a cabbage leaf. It had absolutely no flavor. My meal had a reddish tan gravy over it that was supposed to be tomato based but I didn't get any tomato flavor at all. I sprinkled salt and pepper on my dish and it did very little to enhance the flavor. My husband said his Jagerschnitzel was just ok. He was expecting his food to taste like it did when he ordered it in Europe but not even close. He had a dark lager beer and I had a soft drink and $70+ later we were left wanting something else to eat. Now we can say we've been here but have no plans on returning. read more

Euro Bistro in Herndon is great. I decided to post this to support this place and pump them up a bit. If you love German food, continue to read. if not, give it a read anyway. I have been going here at least 10 years. Maybe 15? I lived in Germany for a couple years and go back with some regularity I was just in Berlin May of 2022. This place is as good as German food gets in the states. They give you massive portions as you'll see in the pics just like Deutschland. I used to go to a place called the Schuetzen Haus in Mannheim Germany and Euro bistro is reminiscent of that. The Gemischter salat (mixed salad) is like every one I ever had in Germany. I prefer the Wienerschnitzel with the Jager sauce on the side. My son had the Jager schnitzel. They offer you the pork or chicken as options for your schnitzel. The goulash soup is fantastic. The spaetzle, sauerkraut and red cabbage typical German accompaniments are authentic. The apple strudels my desert go to is done phenomenally well. If you don't think you like German food, try it. If you like German-Austrian food, you have to go. They do have some continental European options as well as you will see in the menu. I think it's a husband and wife operation The husband is Austrian I believe. They have one other waitress I think it is their daughter, so it's a real small business but to me it's one of a kind. I've never had anything as authentic or as good. Lastly, it's really festive around Christmas time they start having different group showing up and they sing German Christmas songs and stuff. There's also a lot of like local German clubs or groups that tend to go here regularly. they have some European hours too. They open at like 11 to 2 for lunch and then open back up at 5 to 8. We ordered our meal as a pickup. We ordered many items that were German. Overall, we are extremely disappointed in the food. The sauerbraten had no authentic taste of a true sauerbraten. It was basically some chuck steak with a brown gravy. The Goulaschesuppe was tinny flavored that tasted as if it were out of a can. The beet salad had a mere 3 and a half slices of beets that tastes of can. The Bratwursts were nowhere near an authentic Nűrnberg bratwurst. The cost of the meal was much higher than, in my opinion, the quality of the food!!! We do not plan on revisiting this restaurant. read more

Also the sausages, sauerkraut and stuffed cabbage plate were excellent, as was the HBLager accompaniment. The service, however, lacked welcome and friendliness, contrary to the many signs and other German language proclamations of friend, and fellow, ship. Here we go, I don't understand how people give this a 5 star. Food was barely mediocre at best. Let's start with a gamey bratwurst, and chewy calamari, and cold coffee, the fries was good but kind of hard to mess it up. My wife ordered the Pacific seafood soup platter, or whatever that mess was... broth was good, shrimp and vermicelli was good but the fish was beyond it's good days, fresh or frozen the taste was terrible!!! Mussels still had hair and barnacles stuck to it, very little effort in taking time to clean the shell.... she took maybe 4 buts and sips from the broth My stroganoff was alright meat was tender but tasted like it's been sitting in a fridge for a week at the very least.... sadly this is the first time in a very long time since I've encountered bad food and terrible service... I tell the lady that my wife thought the mess she ordered was tasting wayyy off... the considerate thing to do is take it off the check since CLEARLY it was barely touched... I have worked the restaurant business and traveled the world and I have never in my life, from first to third world country have received such insensitivity and inconsiderate actions but someone who runs the joint. I'm a pretty good tipper but this is the first time in my life that I didn't leave a tip, I hope this helps future folks who would think about going to this joint... good day. read more

What an amazing find! A family owned nouveau kind of German/European eatery. I had the Swedish meatballs with Spätzle and red cabbage... It all melts in your mouth. It is bathing in a creamy brown sauce like a stroganoff with thin slices of fresh mushrooms and surprise - surprise baby slivers of some bad ass bacon! I met the owner's friend who is running the business with her Chef Hubby for a while to give their friends a well needed rest. She was so cool, friendly and so welcoming. One of my favorite German spots to eat at when I'm in the herndon area. Ive been coming to this place for years and it never disappoints! The wiener schnitzel and german potato salad is my favorite. All though i have not been back in quite sometime the portions have definitely slimed down a bit but the unique and authentic taste never fails! **3.5 stars** Went here for lunch today - the place has received quite the number of accolades in various print media throughout the area as evidenced by the clippings in the front window from sources such as The Washington Post and Washingtonian Magazine. The place offers a mish-mash of Austrian, German, and American dishes. I ordered the Lobster Bisque and the Caesar Salad with Cajun Salmon, my work colleague ordered the smoked Pork Chops. My soup was brought out fairly quickly. It was a tasty soup, although just a tad heavy on the salt. My salad was also good - although the Salmon was just slightly overcooked. Good food, bad service. We were "greeted" at the door by the owner's wife. No eye contact, no smile - just a quick walk to the table, throw the menus down and walk away. After a while, she came back to "serve" us - one-word answers, no explanations. The food was excellent. We started with the gemischter Salat - wonderful! Been some time since we wanted to check out Euro Bistro. Some German friend of ours said we needed to try their food. We have German blood in the family so this was a must. We got the kids to agree that pizza was a bad idea and schnitzel was the way to go:) We arrived at around 6pm and got a table fast. We ordered the goulash, schnitzel (to share for the kids), sauerbraten with sides and liver. Service was super slow but eventually we got our meal. The schnitzel was outrageously thin, the goulash was paprika laden, the liver was raw (yup) and the sauerbraten was ok. In short, nothing special. Happy we tried it out but not something I wouldn't lose sleep over. What made it 2 stars was the "yodeling" lady who arrived to serenade table-by-table. Kids loved it BUT it was not something needed at a family meal. Im sure it rocks at 10pm when the "October Fest" beer is flowing but for her to go full "sales lady" was a lill much. If I wanted a Disney meal I would have chosen a different venue. Try it out but don't expect magic. It is what it is. A Mom-and-Pop German restaurant with bad service (the food took forever), short cuts and raw liver (ugh). Dont wanna bash a local business but this was not up to scratch. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally ordered the chicken Jägerschnitzel for lunch today. It was delicious and authentic! The serving size was generous and worth the price of the meal for sure. My chicken was tender and the sauce was very flavorful. The Spätzle was perfect, too! Overall experience: Doesn't look much when looking in the outside, but once inside- there's something about this place that takes you to Europe! The atmosphere and vibe of the place is relaxing - especially when there'e jingle bells playing while eating with friends and family! The food is amazing and would go there again! Atmosphere: There was barely anyone at the restaurant when I arrived with my coworkers, but got busy pretty quickly! The servers are amazing and were quick with our food! Food: I had the Zwiebelroastbraten along with mashed potatoes for lunch. The beef was well cooked and just mouthwatering delicious. The sauce and fried onions went really well with the beef! As for the mashed potato- it was the perfect side to the Zwiebelroastbraten and served as a contrast to the heaviness of the meat - thick and fluffy! For dessert, we had a chocolate mouse cake and a cherry strudel served with ice cream. Both really hit the spot and were satisfying to the last bite. Recommendations: Nothing! Love this place. This is my favorite place to get German food that I do not have to drive long distance for. Tonight's dinner was especially fun. They had an unexpected visitor since Octoberfest is cancelled a friend came in and played the accordion and sang songs. She had hats you could buy. It was great fun. Little German bears, a clock, great little gifts you would get at Octoberfest if it were still happening. I had the Saur brauten. My daughter always gets the Swedish meatballs. Hubby got the smoked pork chop with red cabbage. All the food is delicious and authentic. The staff is friendly. They rotate the paintings out as they are done by a local artist and are for sale.
