This is a great place for some German beers and food! The atmosphere is super laid back, with some small tables and lots of large tables. There's tons of German beer hall decorations and merch. The tables had QR codes that let you see the menu and split the bill, but you still need to order with a server. The servers were attentive and friendly. The menu isn't huge but features lots of German beers. My friend was so excited to see Andechs on tap, so if you're a German beer fan you'll likely be pleased with the selection! I loved the food options and found them to be pretty authentic and also not too expensive. I loved the pretzel buns and the fries. We were looking for a last-minute dinner spot that was reasonably priced with heated outdoor seating and good food, and Prost fit the bill! They were able to seat us immediately. They have all the typical German foods along with a good dose of beer. I ordered the sampler because I was really interested in a good pretzel along with cheese, sausage, and other classic fixings like sauerkraut and cabbage. It was delicious, warm, and filling! This place is awesome. We placed an large group of individual orders and this place did not miss a beat. All of the orders were correct and made on time. I was very impressed because we had about 10 single orders. I will admit, parking here is a nightmare. There is very limited street parking available. I ended up making a spot out front, running in and getting my food and going. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. There is a large dining area and a semi enclosed patio area out front of the restaurant. Be aware that the patio's enclosure partially obstructs the front of the restaurant and makes it hard to see from the street. I made my order online and it was very simple. I order a small pretzel, a schnitzel sandwich with fries and a side of potato salad. Everyone in my group really enjoyed their food. One even said that it was some of the best that they ever had. My food was excellant. The pretzel was perfect. The schnitzel sandwich was huge. It dwarfed the bun. It was very tasty. The fries and potato salad were also good. I really enjoyed my meal and would highly recommend every part of my meal. This place was great. There were no complaints from any of them. Great service with indoor and outdoor seating options. A group of us went for happy hour. We were going to stay outside but after a few minutes, the mosquitoes were buzzing around. We went inside and it was much better! They open at 4. We arrived shortly after and it was already filling up. Love the convenience of splitting checks with a large group - can see the entire tab via the QR code on the table and pay that way. Plenty of beer selections. Prost offers excellent German themed food and drinks in the NW district of Washington DC. We recently stopped at Prost after a Washington Capitals game and it did not disappoint! Their large pretzel and schnitzel was tasty and the service was great. The prices are fair here and they offer specials on Sundays for the football games! How is it a German restaurant without schnitzel? Everybody was super nice in there when I went in and it seemed like it was going to be a great place. But when they said they didn't have breaded schnitzel with mushroom gravy, which is basically what you get in every German place in Germany, that was the end of it for me. Beer is so damn good here. I was confounded the whole day until I read on wiki that Germany (Bavaria) literally has a beer purity law from 1500's, Reinheitsgebot, that only allows three ingredients in German beer - water, malts, and hops. Go figure! The Pilsner quality is unmatched to any American Pils and you can definitely tell the difference. Food is good too, considering it's mostly bar food, but still has Bavarian foundation. We got a burger on a pretzel bun, delicious, and the short rib spaetzle which was lovely and paired brilliant with the beer. The pretzel is a must get, it comes out piping hot, deliciously crispy, and paired with mustard dipping and cheese dipping. Again, DELICIOUS WITH THE BEER! I do love a good German spot, and especially appreciated having this place so near to my hotel. Wound up visiting several times during my trip. It is already in a part of town with tons of other eateries and bars, so convenient enough to walk over should you be in the area, as there is little to no parking right at hand. You can sit either inside, or in some of their lovely outdoor booths. And the ambiance here, especially in the evenings, is very lively and fun, definitely a fantastic spot to enjoy a couple pints and some hearty food. The beer selection is excellent, with maybe a dozen or so different imports. Can't choose which beer you want? Well they do a mondo big flight to help you decide. Kinda sorry I didn't spring for it, actually. They also have a full bar, with wine and cocktails, but I definitely had to get some of their house-made hot spiced wine, as it has that autumn-y vibe. The food here is quite good indeed. The schnitzel sandwich with the side of spaetzle really hit the spot. And on a following visit, I sprung for the Leberkäse (pork and veal) Sliders, along with a bowl of their tasty Goulash. Everything was delicious, and the prices were pretty darn decent for both the food and drinks. And the service here was outstanding, especially from Shannon, who was really cranking out those orders behind the bar. Top marks all around for the staff. Came by for Oktoberfest vibes in late September. Kind service, seated immediately at a fess table with no reservation. They didn't really have anything specifically Oktoberfest going on, just kind of "hey that's what we do every day" vibes. We got 2 different Pauliners and a pretzel, all were good. We went for a Sofar brunch concert and it was so fun! They closed the restaurant down for concert attendees only so the experience was a little different. We had a great time at the concert and trying things from the menu. I was very impressed that there was a non alcoholic radler on the menu. It tasted really good and I enjoyed their puffy oven pancake called the Deutsch baby. I got the sweet version with berries topped on it. It was good but also tasted a little plain. I think it tasted very fluffy which was a plus. Overall the place was not huge but had an upscale grungy vibe. It felt like an elevated version of a dive bar. This is a solid neighborhood bar or place to go for a happy hour after work! The beer selection is nice and it feels very much like a pub. I've ordered a burger here before and it was solid - your standard food for a pub. It's definitely not the main feature here. There's nice outdoor seating space that gets packed very quickly soon after working hours and the inside can also feel very hectic. When it is packed, it can be very hard to hear the people at your table, which is a bit frustrating. But when it's calmer, the vibes here are excellent. I'm feeling generous today & going with 4 stars on the round up from 3.5. The decision to go up instead of down is based on the drink offerings of authentic German brews, wines & creative cocktails / the food offerings being varied and, again, German based / the service being on point from start to finish & the server's interactions & pleasant attitude while we pondered / location. I can say there were a lot of locals in for after work drinks and apps, probably more focused on that then the actual meals. I'm a schnitzel gal & broke that tradition to try the short rib spatzle. The short rib was perfect, while the spatzle a bit stiff & it was overall too cold before it hit the table. I tried the sauerbraten my hubs ordered and found it too dry for me. It's a lean cut and I always find it dry tho, so no surprise I'd pass on it. The sliders were tasty. The beer & cocktails great. We finished off with an apple cake dessert that was really good. I'd definitely go back, particularly for happy hour drinks & pretzels, maybe the sliders. I'd possibly try the schnitzel if I were dining - but I'd skip both mains we ordered this time. Great setting for outdoor dining, and this is clearly a popular establishment. Service was also friendly and given how busy it was, they did a good job stopping by periodically to check on us. That said, there were serious communications issues between people taking the orders and those delivering the food. Multiple times we had 30 min waits where we would order drinks and then see our waiter 1-2 more times reminding him of our orders before we ever saw the drinks. Again, service was friendly, drinks were not bad, but they need to sort out their comms issues. Maybe just have the people taking order deliver the food instead of having 1 person taking orders and 2-3 runners... I don't know, maybe just caught them on a bad night. As for the food, it was solid. Really enjoyed the pretzels and pretzel bites. Sliders were not bad, and we went through a bunch of fries too. I would definitely come back. Prices were a little high, but more or less normal for the area. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great! It was the food and drink that was lacking. We got one raspberry daiquiri, the pot roast and the short ribs. The pot roast was a dry patty, although the flavor was OK. The pot roast meat was good, but had no vegetables. The first think on the list was mushrooms and vegetables, so it should have more than just tiny specs! And for those two meals and 1 cocktail it was $85 with tip and tax. I especially like that they give the option of both mustard and a cheese dipping sauce so you have the option to try both. However, the entrée was not good. The size (and hardness) of the pretzel bun made it challenging to have a complete bite with the bratwurst and sauerkraut. The fries were tasty. Prost exceeded my expectations for customer service in every way. I dropped in for my love of German beer and to watch the Chiefs play the Bills for the AFC Championship. Despite a large and rowdy Sunday night crowd, the service was exceptional. The bartender checked in continuously, was always friendly in her approach, and proactively provided water. Moreover, as customers left, a floor server thanked each and every customer for coming in as they left. Wow. It was honestly the best customer service I've experienced in DC. This place is worth four stars but I found a piece of wire in my food, so I deducted one star. Metallic toppings aside, Prost has a strong, if not necessarily varied, brunch selection. We ordered the wurst (comes with fries, $13) and the Prost Benedict (with salad, $14 I think). Both were tasty and filling. The wurst was a little awkward to eat, as the bun was very wide. But the flavor was excellent and the kraut topping paired well. It also comes with three sauces: ketchup and a green and a white one, the names of which I unfortunately do not know. Both interior and exterior are decorated in Bavarian blue and gold banners which, with the wooden tables and cozy design, make this a really fun spot. They have a lot of really great beers on tap too! And if you're going here you have to get a pretzel--they are baked to order! The food is good. She got the schnitzel sandwich and I got schnitzel platter. My recommendation is to get potato salad over french fries. The potato salad was delicious whereas the fries were a little bland and insufficiently fried. The schnitzel itself was tasty but I would not call it a schnitzel - it was really just fried chicken breast. Schnitzel is supposed to be pounded until thin (that's the whole point of it being a schnitzel), and this was not thin at all. Although it wasn't really a schnitzel, it was still tasty. This was a really good, authentic, German restaurant. Start with the beer. They had many traditional styles of German beers on tap including Pilsner, wheat, and a Koelsch on tap. It was a surprise to see two German wheats on tap with Schneiderweisse being the special find (and my focus) The food menu includes traditional appetizers (grilled asparagus and Brussels sprouts) which were very good. I ordered the Jaegerschnitzel which was cooked to perfection. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that Jaegerschnitzel in Germany is typically covered in a generous sauce. This was more of a drizzle. Service was excellent. There is seating outdoor and indoors. Free Wi-Fi, but you need to know the password (which I think was "good food" when I visited last week.
