Wow- what excellent and responsive customer service! The team at European Tile & Marble was able to find the tiles I was looking for, to match a blurry picture I found online of stone that was cut up with mixed patterns. They even were able to order them in longer/modern cuts. I will definitely make an appointment the next project that I have, because this store is very popular and the sales people always have customers to assist, but I was very appreciative that someone helped both me and my contractor on the spot, the 2 times we dropped into their store. We were referred to European Tile & Marble by our contractor/designer for a primary bathroom remodel. So glad they referred us. Emeilia is wonderful to work with. We told her what style we like and she quickly took us into their showroom and as we talked she was pulling out samples for us to look at. As we narrowed down what we liked and didn't like, she took the ones we liked to the front and that's where we really looked at the samples and discussed the color scheme. When we settled on a few that we thought had potential, she said for us to take them home and lay them out to really see how they look in daylight and nighttime light. No pressure. Once we settled on the specific tiles, she then helped us to pick the color grout to use. Placing the total order was so simple and Emelia was so accommodating. Now that the tile installer is installing the tiles, he discovered that we are short one tile for the baseboard. A quick email to Emelia and she quickly confirmed that one piece is ordered and should arrive shortly. What great service! A lot of product packed into a tight space. I knew what I was looking for in terms of looks and they were able to quickly bring samples to me, allow me to take them home in my space and responded with pricing and availability in less than 24 hours. Great customer service and friendly folks too. Very quick service and the warehouse team was very helpful. They received a pallet from the manufacturer that was not stacked ideally. The warehouse re-arranged the pallet and examined for damage which was immediately refunded. Fair, honest treatment. read more

When we went all the way to Lafayette for selecting tiles for a major remodeling project, initially we were skeptical about the choices we'd have at European but were pleasantly surprised to see see a huge selection and be greeted by their wonderful in-house expert, Emilia. We tried a couple of tile stores in Dublin since our property was in Dublin but either the pushiness of the sales people or their indifference made us walk away. Glad we found this hidden gem. Since our project was a major remodeling, we bought several different types of tiles and met Emilia at least 4-5 times over the period of 6 months. I am posting the pictures of my complete projects but here's my overall experience: I couldn't have found a better place for all my flooring needs. Emilia went above and beyond the scope of her responsibility. She patiently picked our main floor tiles, designed the layout, selected our bathroom and kitchen back splashes and designed all layouts for us. She is a talented designer. Yes, I did have an amazing contractor but when his tile setter had a family emergency, Emilia's husband sent his own crew to meet our deadline to curb the delay. We are extremely grateful to Emilia and her husband for taking care of all our needs, patiently sitting down with us and designing and redesigning things so that the outcome would be gorgeous. If there was a prize for the WORST customer service, this place would win hands down. I have never had an experience like this where someone doesn't want business. You'd think in this economy that they would actually like to have customers come into their store. Not here. First of all, we weren't sure they were open since there was an Open sign with no lights on. When we got closer, we saw that the door was open. We came in. No one was there. We called out and saw a red shirt in the back. I then heard someone say, I'll turn the lights on and sighed. When we asked him to show us a specific tile, he looked perturbed. I asked him if he was able to help us and he said, "oh, I am in the middle of something very important" and walked away. Unbelievable. read more

I am a designer and have used almost every tile shop in this area. I have worked with Emilia as a supplier and my main showroom ever since she bought this business. Her showroom may look small at first glance, but it is shocking how much they have in such a small space. However, Emilia's service is the #1 reason why I bring all of my clients here. Emilia knows her products well, she knows her vendors well and stays on top of every detail. She can collaborate with me on designs as well as calculating quantities. Went over today at 4:30 to look at tile for a fire place remodel. No one was on the floor so we shouted "hello." A woman's voice called "hello" back to us but no one emerged. After another few minutes, my husband poked him head into the office area and saw a woman at her computer. She saw him but didn't respond in any way. We did see a young man sweeping the floor with his back to us. After another three minutes, we left. Stock might be great; prices might be reasonable but service makes or breaks a company and ET&M's service stinks. read more

This place is simply the best. I've been to every tile shop in the East Bay and did a half a dozen tile projects personally at my house in Rockridge. It's an art form for me. Just moved to Lafayette and am now embarking on the first of probably a half dozen tile projects. Emilia and the staff here are helpful, patient and pleasant and the selection is surprisingly large and very nice. Took a few samples home as well before zeroing in. If you've been to many tile shops "pleasant" is never a term associated with tile professionals. Do yourself a favor and come here. High quality products, great selection, delivery on time, the sales guy (possibly owner) Benci was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, but definitely not pushy. Different people want different amounts of support from sales people - he was a good fit for us. Looking over the reviews here that are negative, I do agree that they need to do a better job of managing their signs, to note when they are closed for lunch, and when they are open. Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. I walked in, the representative (don't know his name, he never introduced himself), asked how he could help us. I told him I was looking for a particular brand, he said he had another line that looked like that. I asked to see it, he showed it to me and then asked "what is your budget?". When I told him he responded with "You can't afford anything here" and then turned away. My friend and I just looked at each other with dismay. I wouldn't buy a pencil from these folks. Anyone that deals with public knows that you DON"T EVER TELL SOMEONE THAT THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO SHOP at their store. I may not afford his product but my clients do. It didn't help that he smelled like booze. Maybe that is why he was ticked, we interrupted his cocktail hour. read more

What a difference new owners can make! I can't recommend European Tile & Marble enough. Our first project was a small laundry room and Monica and Emilia spent so much time searching for the tile that I wanted, helping me make decisions, and helping me with the design that I actually felt badly! They definitely had the attitude that no job is too small. Vic installed the tile as soon as it arrived, installed it quickly, and did a perfect job at a very reasonable price. Our second project was a bathroom and again Monica and Emilia spent a lot of time with us. Monica suggested some patterns that I wouldn't have chosen and spent a lot of time drawing the designs and emailing them to me. I ended up going with her suggestions, as I figured I would trust the expert. I am SO glad I did! The tile pattern in the shower looks amazing and everyone that sees it loves it. We had a lot of delays with the bathroom project which impacted Vic (installation) over and over. He was very patient and did an amazing job working around our other subs and issues. He never complained and I was so thankful that he was so easy to work with. He came up with some new ideas on the fly and had great attention to detail. NEW OWNERS! Please ignore the customer service comments in the previous reviews because the new owners are VERY helpful and nice! The man who owns the store is also an experienced tiler, so he can give insight that most stores cannot. This tile store has the biggest selection I could find in the Lafayette/Walnut Creek Area. And they have reorganized it so that it makes better sense now and you can actually find things. I wanted some Ann Sacks tile, which you can only see or get from their showroom in SF, and they got me samples and are able to order it for me! This was really going out of their way. read more

I should have started here first! The ladies here are just fenomenal. Knowledgable, pleasant, patient and with a big smile on their face. I came back too many times, taking samples back and forth and there was never any pressure. They were even willing to give me advice on other bathroom questions I had. They spent hours with me and then some more when I brought my husband in on a Saturday. They stayed past their closing time so we could make a final decision. One of the tiles I have chosen had a better price in a different tile shop and they were absolutely happy to match that price. Please disregard the old reviews on the site pertaining to the old owner. I rarely take the time to write a review but after dealing woth a lot of people while remodelling my bathrooms and kitchen I had to share my very positive experience with Emilia and Monica. They knew their product, they beat the price of their competitors (we shopped a total of six stores) and they delivered this large order one day ahead of schedule. This is the absolute best place for buying tile and/or marble! We had to redo a small bathroom and I was dreading having to go out and pick out tile...I just knew it would be a long pain staking process! We discovered European Tile & Marble upon our visit to the next door restaurant Giardino (delicious Italian food), so my husband and I decided to start here. I am so very glad we did! Not only does she help you pick out your tile, she will sketch out and suggest different layouts for the tile in your space. I cannot tell you what a great experience I had here. My husband's medical office in SF burned to the ground a couple of years ago and almost everything about the rebuild in crazy SF was difficult......except for Monica and European Tile! She was so knowledgeable and smart, had great taste and made great suggestions. I always felt like I was her only customer. There are beautiful products in the store and their prices reflect that....but you get what you pay for and I'm sure they are no more expensive than anywhere else for the same products. Maybe less. And she was very practical about and respectful of my bottom line. Monica and Emelia are fun, no attitude, realistic and patient!! I recently went back in because I am working on a project out of town. For insurance reasons too complicated to explain, I will not be able to purchase any of my tile from them, but knowing this she still went out of her way and spent so much valuable time helping me.
