I have been going to EWC on Kings Hwy for a while and their manager and receptionists are great and professional, but had to use the Avenue U location because the day I needed was not available for a full body in kings hwy. The service was quick but not thorough, and when I was inspecting myself for any missed spots, I was faced with resistance and reluctance to go over the areas again, and had to ask several times before the technician agreed to go on over the areas again. Even when she did, it was a sloppy and half-hearted job. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And then, during the mere 10 minutes that I took to get dressed and prep myself to leave (it was a full body and I had to remove all my clothes for it), the front desk receptionist knocked on the door multiple times, rushing me, not stopping even when I said that I was still getting ready and didn't appreciate the rushing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When the left to the front desk and expressed my dismay and frustration, I was faced with ridicule and rudeness from reception and management. Not one apology.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Naturally, this got me mad, but instead of apologizing they called the cops on me to remove me from the premises, despite the fact that I was not aggressive in any way and did not insult anyone. Later when I told the cops my side of the story, they agreed with me, saying that the place is not worth my time, money and business. Will not set a foot there again. Who heard of a place where you can't get 10 private minutes to put yourself together after a full body waxing session? Made an appointment here since it's nearby. Customer service is pretty good, the young lady who dealt with me at the desk was very polite and professional. She was also super gracious to me as I was running late. I got a full Brazilian wax and it was very good. Literally painless (but I also am an avid waxer). I had Karelis. She was professional. Her waxing skills are quick & clean. I also like that they give you half off your first Brazilian with them. The facility was clean and well organized but it can do with a facelift outdoors as well as in the waiting area. I would return again if I can't make it to my original wax lady. I had a great experience at this location today. The staff was very friendly, quick, and knowledgeable. Yuri did my wax and she was fantastic. She knew exactly what she was doing, she shared information with me about some of my concerns from my previous wax and she kept me entertained lol. It helped to keep me distracted. She created an overall great experience for me and I am very satisfied with my wax. I will definitely be coming back and asking for Yuri. She is authentic in who she is while still being excellent at her job. I also loved that the staff was majority African American. So this is the first time im going here to get my eyebrows waxed. I have very sensitive skin & normally get them threaded otherwise i break out. After reading quite a few reviews on here I decided to go w/ Shireen. I did explain to her about the sensitive skin & she told me not to worry the wax she uses is for sensitive skin. My wait time was less then 5 minutes. So I got them done & the waxing didnt hurt as bad as I remembered. Let me add it was a complimentary wax since it was my first time here. I have been going to European Wax Center for several years. In particular, I joined the Avenue U Center last year. In the beginning the service was great, the place was clean, the people were professional. However, yesterday's experience is very different. As you walked in, the carpet was dirty and as was the front lobby. The employees barely smiled. One was looking at her phone the entire time texting. I walked in as I didn't have an appointment to see if they were taking walk-ins and at that time they were busy. So I said I would just book online for an evening appointment and wait at the mall. I booked my appointment online for 7:45pm. I came in at 7:38 PM and I wasn't greeted with much professionalism. They seemed confused and annoyed. Again the front desk receptionist who received me was looking at her cell phone. The lobby still looked unkept. The first technician that came out said she already cleaned up her room and couldn't take me. I offered to come back the next day but they said I would be accommodated which was nice. The next technician who took me asked if I ran late. I was surprised as I was on time and not too early during a pandemic to avoid overcrowding. I explained I had a 745pm appt. I arrived a few minutes early but according to her schedule I was put in at 7:15pm. Why this mix up is beyond me. It appeared I was shuffled into a different slot because there were several clients fir the same time. My service finished at 7:53pm. Quick and efficient. Pleasant. However on my check out another woman said she has a 745 appointment and again I witnessed how she was greeted with unprofessionalism. The facial expression, the lack of smile, the body language, and just the overall attitude seemed so unpleasant. We're coming for a personal service and it's important to be personable. It is equally important to provide a clean facility which is why I started coming here in the first place. I cannot complain about the technician and she was excellent. TIME AND DAY: Anyways I went in on a busy Tuesday afternoon before my mall trip for a Brazilian. A reviewer mentioned Ivy as being goos before she left so I picked her. She was great, acknowledged you even before your appointment time when she came to grab someone else. WAX SERVICE: So I came in with a fulllllllll bush! Full but not crazy course. Just straight hairs and 3b hairs. For me a wax is always painful. With the exception of one waxer who I came across here long ago who had the perfect technique. IVY was my waxer, really thorough wax and she realllly gets all the crevices! Nice too. (Heyy Ivy if you see this). ANDDD best of all she did not try to forcefully sell me anything. Now idk if that is bad from the manager's perspective but customers really dont like that. She did however inform me of all the products used. Maybe it was because it was too busy that day and no one could really pitch it. But anyways, I am a grad student so I don't buy expensive things anymore. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: I thought I would be going through a horrible experience like my last one there years ago but it went well. I would never go back to this location. I may consider going to another, but this was not a good first wax experience at all. First of all, I booked via app. It clearly states that there is a 10 min grace period. I called because I thought I would be cutting it close and they tell me it's 5 mins. I asked for clarification of the discrepency and they rudely told me that "well, it's 5 mins at this location". Okay... It put me in an annoyed mood, because customer service, right? I then arrive to the location (1min late) and upon walking in, barely a greeting and straight "Do you have an appointment". I went to use the restroom and before walking in the tech asked if I was on acne medication after looking at me in the waiting room... Uncouth to say the least. Then apparently my tech, Ivy, was complaining about being hungry while I was in the restroom..I guess that's why 10mins became 5. I came in the room and she was friendly enough in the beginning. It was established that this was my first time getting a Brazilian, and I'm also 9 months pregnant ready to drop any day now. As the actual wax began she was so impatient with me I wanted to cry. No easing into it, no prep. Basically just a bunch of chastising for the natural reflex of my leg popping up... Remind you I am pregnant so I'm not as flexible as I could be. I never thought the process would be void of pain, but I think she could have been a WAY better professional and considerate considering both this being a first time experience as well as my being pregnant. It's a convenient wax center, if you are in the area worth a try. My experience was below average because my waxer Karelis was in a rush to eat lunch. Celeste is the best waxer. She works hard in the eye brows and makes them look the way you want them to be. After she finishes she hands you a mirror and asks if you want any more hair from the brow taken off. I love that she focuses on tweezing and cutting more than waxing. I find that to be very important because waxing alone doesn't take off enough hair. Celeste will always be my favorite waxer. She does an awesome job every time I see her. I recommend her. I had a lot of waxers and none of them did a good job like Celeste did. read more

I made an appointment here because my regular waxer (not from European) was not available and never again. The waxer I originally booked based on reviews was not available, so they scheduled me with another young lady. The first appointment (yes, I had to go back the following day), there was patches of hair left, no wiping or aftercare lotion nothing. The waxer turned around, said she was done and went on her phone. I get home and really see the amount of hair left and called European promptly the next day. They told me to come back in but I have to see the same waxer. I knew this was not a good idea. There was still patches just smaller. I had to shave to clean everything up. I initially wrote a compliant in regards to a bad phone interaction I had with one of the assistant manager's at this location. Management called me immediately following the compliant to address my concerns and I was satisfied by the outcome. I came in today for my scheduled wax and was greeted by a very pleasant individual later on to find out it was the same individual I had previously had the phone encounter with. Akilah took full accountability for her approach during the phone conversation and apologized for the interaction as she is dealing with some family circumstances which caused her to not be her regular pleasant self. Everyone is entitled to a bad day and after our conversation today I genuinely believe she understands the importance of maintaining your composure irrespective of the circumstances. The woman at the desk was very friendly and professional and that's the only reason that for two stars. The woman who did my waxing was a completely different story. When waxing she applied no pressure to ease the pain, I had to remind her to. Then after telling me she could not get all the hairs she did not attempt to even tweeze ANY. This location clearly does not value loyal customers but I got the memo and will not be returning. I made an appointment during my last visit but due to illness I had to cancel. For some reason that makes no sense you can make appointments online but cannot cancel online. Anyway, I called to cancel and thought everything was fine. The day of the canceled appt I was still charged for the service. I called to speak to a manager and left my number and never received a return call. I disputed the charge with my bank and they said the merchant refuses to issue a refund but will continue to investigate. Lesson learned... read more

I received my first wax here a little while back and based off of the reviews here I chose Yelena as my wax specialist. Even though I was on time for my appointment I still had to wait maybe 10 minutes, which was not a big deal for me it happens, but it did make me more anxious. Upon meeting Yelena I could tell she was a professional, we talked throughout the whole process to keep my mind off of the pain, and after each wax she applied pressure over the freshly waxed area so you only feel a little sting right after. LADIES ITS REALLY NOT THAT BAD! BELIEVE ME! The whole process went by pretty quickly, I didn't remember to time it exactly, but it was fast. I left EWC feeling brand new. Horrible Experience. I had been here 4 times without problem. On my 5th visit I saw a new technician. The Brazilian wax was painful and when I got home I realized that a substantial amount of wax was left on me, and half the hair not removed. I called and spoke to a manager and was told that corporate policy was that I had to come back and see the same technician that had been painful and done a terrible job. I'm not sure who would agree to do that? They were not sympathetic and could care less about losing a customer. I am just glad I never signed up for the "wax pass". I will never return. read more

During my reservation process, I was able to express that I was a first time client as well as it being my first time getting a Brazilian wax. I chose YELENA to do my wax based on yelp reviews and I was not disappointed at all!!!! Not only did she explain all the steps to me and make me feel comfortable (Another issue I conveyed to the company during my reservation process), she also was very gentle and patient with me.
