This is one of the most commercial bourbon tours I've ever been to. I'm sure a lot of tourists come, but so do lots of families. I don't typically see kids at these kinds of tours, but today I did. I've previously visited Heaven Hill, which is the distillery that Evan Williams is under. I think that everyone should visit Heaven Hill even if you come to Evan Williams. It gives you more of a wholistic picture of what they do. This can be for bourbon fans, but you also don't have to be to come here. We were a group of 10. 5 of us came on time for the 11:40 on a Saturday morning and the other 5 were about five minutes late. It seemed like the lady at the counter was mad, but she was actually worried and flustered for us. She approached me at the end of the tour and asked how I enjoyed it with a huge smile. They're so nice here! The tour is exactly one hour. It doesn't have the same thoroughness as other distillery tours I've been to, but our tour guide still did a great job. I always learn something new even though a lot of information is the same at any distillery. We tasted four types of Evan Williams and of course, had to have the bourbon chocolates. It's my favorite part! It was light in the chocolate and not as strong as I prefer. I kinda wish they guided you more with how to taste the flavors of each bourbon. This seemed a bit rushed. I know they're time-centered here, but it matters to guide people who don't know much about bourbon. My family really enjoyed it overall. Not all of them liked the taste, but a few of them really did and bought a few bottles. They all liked smelling it though! They don't hold a lot of barrels here so again, go to Heaven Hill for the full experience. You can bring water in here too. So no worries if you need a quick hydrating swig after tasting the bourbon. I also enjoyed the gift shop. It's small, but the space for the whole place overall isn't huge. They sold some of the other Heaven Hill products here, sauces, tumblers, shirts, mugs, coffee too! My friends and I took a mini couples trip to Louisville and we made sure this was first on our list. We all bought our tickets ahead of time and arrived a little early before our tour started. From the outside it doesn't look like this place is that big, but once you step inside that all changes. There's this cool giant bourbon glass with "bourbon" pouring out. We ventured to the 2nd floor to check out the gift shop and there were just so many bourbons and bourbon related things to buy. The bourbon tasting started with some history about how Evan Williams got started, then we got to see some behind the scenes action of how the bourbon is made. I'm not much of a bourbon drinker but I did enjoy the tastings and how to trick your taste buds and how it pairs with chocolate. read more

We signed up for a 90 minute tour and we were out of the tour within 60 minutes. Thought the set up of the museum was cool but it felt like our tour guide was rushing us a bit. In particular the tasting part was quite rushed. I've been to other whiskey tours before where they give you more time to drink and socialize. I didn't get to finish any of my drinks as I personally don't chug bourbon. Tour guide also said loudly at the end of the tour that he only received a tip from one person which I thought was very inappropriate to say. read more

The Evan Williams experience is in a historic "Whiskey row" building. If you haven't been to the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience on Main Street yet, you are missing out! In addition to the traditional tour, they offer a "Speakeasy Tour" of the basement speakeasy. In order to gain access to the speakeasy, you must first guess the secret code correctly. The one thing I learned while visiting Louisville was to book all bourbon tours in advance since they fill up quickly! Lesson learned. We were lucky to get a spot here on the last day of our visit and I'm glad it worked out. This is a highly interactive an engaging one hour tour. They have videos, replica saloons and more to keep everyone interested. Our tour guide was fantastic and he walked us through everything with humor and never sounded rehearsed. You can't control who is in your tour group, made up of about 20 people, and unfortunately, we had a wise guy on our tour who thought he knew more than everyone. The tour guide handled it with grace and did his best to not let it ruin the tour for everyone else. Honestly, there is so much to do, see and talk about, I wish the tour was a bit longer. read more

We entertained two couples this weekend with a tour here. Micah, our tour guide, was a hoot. He is passionate about the business, the products and history. In fact, he's going to teach history soon. I loved the facility. There are a few visual presentations which highlight the significance of this particular distillery in Louisville's history. There are easy explanations of the distilling process as you observe the equipment behind the glass. Our tasting was informative and fun. Lots of stories, laughs..all the while many questions were answered and it was not crowded. They stagger tours and tastings very well, at no point did we hear other groups or struggle to maneuver the halls. The gift shop at the end is lovely; they were sampling their delicious eggnog plus several of their cooking sauces and products. We stayed a few minutes at the end and had a chat with our guide and a few workers. What a fun and friendly place; a must do! read more

They have a lot of different bourbons you will not find unless you visit Kentucky. Lots of cool swag if you love Evan Williams also. Staff were super friendly. I was just causally chatting with them about their bourbon and they set us up at the register so we could have a quick taste. They let us taste a few of their different bourbons. As a full up front. I think the Evan Williams 1783 is kinda eh, and the Evan Williams Bottled in Bond is a good deal at 11.99, but is still a budget grade bourbon (It's really a 20 dollar bottle). With that being said, Evan Williams can do some kickass stuff and you'll get to experience that. The tour also goes into the history of bourbon in Louisville, the role that Evan Williams himself played in that history, along with Prohibition and the like. The building is much bigger on the inside and recreates a number of environments and it's actually quite cool. The tasting includes four whiskies. I only recall the last two (I went on a NUMBER of tours), and it is the Square Six, and Evan Williams 12 year. The Square Six is made on site in Louisville and only sold at the gift shop. The 12 year is only sold in Japan and the gift shop. Whether they're worth the asking price is up to you. What isn't debatable is that this is a whiskey sampler that's worth an easy 25 dollars being provided here. You then get a chocolate, and a tour on top of that, all for 15 dollars. As someone who wasn't a huge fan of Evan Williams products going in, the stuff they're serving here is excellent, and it includes a good educational trip as well to boot. read more

Try the speakeasy tour ($20 a person)! It is one of the quickest and most entertaining beginnings to a trip on the bourbon trail. A guide takes you down to the basement, where a member of the party receives a special "code word" and then knocks on a bank-vault-esque door to enter the "secret" bar. Once inside, an old-timey bartender recites tall tales from the olden days of bourbon, mixing in some education about the origins of the whiskey and its famous founding fathers with some pours of whiskey. The entire tasting takes about half an hour and showcases four whiskies: Pikesville Rye, Evan Williams Bottled in Bond, Evan Williams 12-Year Old, and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. The tasting itself is first-rate. I only knocked off a star because, on some of the distillery visits out in the country (such as Maker's Mark) you get to see the actual stills and rickhouses, and those warrant a slightly higher rating. I'm also not a huge fan of them selling Evan Williams 12-Year for $129 at the gift shop -- apparently, it's mostly an export product to the Japanese market, where it goes for $30 or so. A bourbon that you can only buy in a single store in Kentucky, for 4 times the price that it's available halfway around the world? Kind of bizarre. read more

We did 4 tours in 2 days. Makers, EW, Angels Envy and Bulleit. This was the second best one. Makers being first (by a lot... ref my review) We actually had a private tour (unintentionally because noone else joined)... EW is located right downtown which is cool. They do some production there. They make solid all around bourbons. I am a particular fan of their black label bourbon. For the price, its very high quality. Our tour guide was great, and she really got in to the drinking of the bourbon, which I can appreciate. Most definitely worth the visit. read more

This isn't the main distillery so I wasn't really sure what to expect however I was really impressed. I did the speakeasy tour. It is given by a guide in the character of a probation bartender so there are a few corny jokes along the way but all in all the experience was informative and you of course get samples. There were 5 tastes in total. Also check out the retail second floor before or after your tour. I managed to snag two more samples up there, one of which convinced me to buy a season bottle from Ean Williams as well as some bourbon coffee. Overall a cool experience and I do recommend it. Buy your passport books upstairs and get them stamped downstairs by the really sweet and friendly greeter. read more

The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is a terrific way to learn about distilling, about Louisville history, and to get an education on the right way to taste bourbons. This isn't an historic spot--the "tour" is located in a building on Main Street, across the street from where the original distillery was located but is now the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. But, what it may lack in history, the "experience" makes up for with careful planning, theatrics, design, and information. The tour starts with a short movie about Evan Williams, who not only was an early distiller in the area but was also the wharfmaster for Lousiville. The tour continues with museum-like movies and settings as you learn about Louisville and about the process of distilling. (While this isn't Evan Williams' primary production site, actual distilling occurs here!) My favorite part of the tour was the tasting room. The mid-century modern decor was great, and even better was the variety of bourbons to sip. The tour guide's love of the product shines through, as does Evan Williams' quality. On another tour we took, the differences from one whiskey to another didn't seem that great, but at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, we were treated to a wider variety of interesting and delicious tastes. The tour guide takes time to teach you how to taste and enjoy bourbon, and you learn the difference a few drops of water make in the taste. We recently did a tour at Evan Williams. It was one of the few bourbon tours running during COVID. There were limited people in the group (we had 6 total) and masks were required. Within the building there were hand sanitizer stations and controlled direction flow of elevators and stairwells. The tour itself was excellent! The tour is designed more like a museum in some areas, with well thought out videos and realistic displays. Our guide was well verse, had a great personality and really helped to make the experience top notch. At the end of the tour we sampled 4 bourbons all delicious in their own way. One of the best bourbon stops to make in Louisville and a great place to get a drink is 3rd floor bar inside distillery. Best old fashioned over the weekend, dangerous lemonade lol. Tried Manhattan and did a flight of tastings (flavored). Cool bar tenders, friendly staff, awesome greeter at front and told us where to go. We wrote down recipes for lemonade to make at home it was so delicious, be great on a hot day!! Must stop, will come back for sure! read more

Didn't do the tour however, I did go to the bar on the 3rd floor. Micah, was a great bartender or perhaps even a mixologist as he introduced me to his version of the "Kentucky Fog Old Fashion" which he smokes the glass with fresh cinnamon bark and his own variations of ingredients to the cocktail. A must try if you are ever in the Louisville, KY area. Then there is Baker, another bar staff. When not attending to the crowds that ebbs and flows between the tours, Baker is meticulously inspecting each shot glass, sniffer, and other cocktail glasses for cleanliness and imperfections, such as cracks and chips. This will become a must stop for me when I'm in Louisville. Good atmosphere and great conversation. read more

This was a great tour. Tommy was the best. He was our tour guide and bourbon sampling partner. His passion for bourbon is unmatched. He is very knowledgeable, happy to answer questions, and very spirited. He joked that this was his 4th tour of the day and that he samples the bourbon with each tour. The tour is not as immersive as others I've been on, but still very good. The tour ends with a tasting of four bourbons, one of which was a bourbon aged 12 years. This is a limited edition that has very low distribution but can be purchased at the gift shop for about $130. The samples also come with a chocolate bourbon ball which pairs very well with the bourbon. The gift shop has a variety BBQ, chocolate sauces, and other sauces made from bourbon. I really didn't know what to expect with Louisville's newest destination -- maybe some pics from Evan Williams Bourbon's past, lots of pitches for its current products and then a quick swig of bourbon at the end. Wow, was I underestimating EWBE! There was some serious money spent on creating this attraction, and it was money well spent. Plus, for $12, this really is a must-do for visitors and locals. I don't want to ruin some of the surprises you'll come across during your visit, but I can say that the guided tours I've gone on have lasted about an hour. The guides have been fabulous -- funny, knowledgable and engaging. Be sure to check out the tiny artisanal distillery in EWBE that is making bourbon everyday. And happily, I came out of the EWBE a more knowledgable bourbon drinker. I'm still very much a bourbon novice, but now I can talk about how to drink bourbon and what to look for in it. There is also quite a bit of Louisville history in the tour, which I loved. One last tip: Ask your guide if you can check out the speakeasy in the basement. Fun little tour and engaging tour guide. THE EXPERIENCE: We booked a tour at Evan Williams to learn how bourbon is made and have a little taste session. It looks small from the outside but it's pretty spacious inside. You get to see the actual distillery factory through glass pane as well as without a glass pane from above when you reach a higher floor. There are educational stories and graphs, and the tour guide takes you around explaining them and the history of bourbon in Kentucky. Near the end of the tour you are taken into a room where you sit and taste different Bourbons and have some bourbon chocolates. The chocolates are really good and we ended up buying a couple boxes at their gift shop at the end of the tour. I would recommend the tour and the chocolates!! read more
