My grandfather's name was Evan Williams, so we had to stop in here on our recent visit to Louisville. The tours had been all sold out, but we were able to go upstairs to the bar and we enjoyed a tasty old fashioned and a bourbon flight. They have several different flights and I chose the entry-level one to compare the regular offerings, but they have flights with several allocated products (Evan Williams and other Heaven Hill products), so it's definitely a great way to try them since bottles are impossible to find. The entry flight was pretty good and it was nice to compare the bourbons to see how they differed. We'll definitely be back to take the tour on our next trip! read more

Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is a great place to learn some Louisville History. On this tour they spend a small amount talking about how bourbon is made. The acting is a little cheesy in some parts but I enjoyed the storyline. At the end we did a guided sampling of 4 Evan Williams Bourbons. My favorite part was drinking bourbon with the bourbon ball because a bourbon tour would not be complete without chocolate. My fiancé bought a bottle of the Masters Blend which is only available in the gift shop. I've done this tour twice & picked up something new each time. My first time was during the week with friends & we just popped in to buy our tickets. My second time was on a Saturday afternoon & it was significantly more busy. If you plan to do this tour on a weekend I recommend getting your tickets online in advance. I loved the Evan Williams bourbon bottle Christmas tree in the main entrance... great photo op! Kind of feels like an amusement park attraction with how they've created some of the spaces and scenes to mimic of how it was back in the day. Either way I think it was a relatively good tour to learn about the history of both Evan Williams and Louisville and their process of making bourbon. We did the traditional tour and while it lasts an hour long, if you can make it through the lessons you will be handsomely rewarded with 4 tastings of their bourbon. All around not a bad deal for $20. Definitely feels a bit touristy, and while they have their small scale production handled here you won't actually get to see where majority of their bourbon is produced. The was the first place we hitup on our bourbon expedition. I was introduced to some great bourbons as well as 10 year Henry McKenna which blew me away. The woman (Karla) in the tasting space was awesome in giving us the goods and was very knowledgeable. There were lots of good flights within the tasting menu, but I went with the Forefathers flight which included Henry McKenna, Elijah Craig Small Batch and Evan Williams Small Batch....all very good! Great scenery and souvenirs here and the people that work here are really nice and helpful. Came to Louisville for our work trip, the best Bourbon experience I've been to!! The tour was so interactive and made you feel like you were back in the day when they created their special bourbon. Great theater rooms to watch the creation and history! When you go to try the tasting, the chocolate bourbon balls were SO delicious! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and entertaining. You could tell he enjoys working there. He gave us a breakdown on how to properly taste the bourbon to get all of the flavors and notes from the liquor. The room we tasted in was so unique! They created the hallway as if you were back in the 1700s and the bar/tasting room was created the same way. Evan Williams offers a unique tour, that reminds me of Universal Studios, where you move from room-to-room to tell the story of Evan Williams. Each room contains real depictions of scenery or town squares to help portray the story as it is being told on video walls. Keep in mind they have a working distillery, behind the scenes, but it focuses on small batch bourbons and the major distillery is located off site. I am not going to provide any details as you need to experience this for yourself, but you won't be disappointed in the way they tell the story. You finish in an old-style bar where you pull up a chair and taste 4 of their signature blends, followed by a trip to the gift shop where they offer all the same bourbons we tasted and many other collectible gifts that you want to bring home for yourself or family. Oh yeah, not to mention the big glass of Bourbon when you first walk in that has water flowing from the suspended bottle right down into the glass. We were welcomed by Dianne & then we had Charlie as our host and he did a great job of explaining the process and the background/history of Evan Williams. The tasting room's doors were very cool & we enjoyed trying the various bourbons along with the background with each. We toasted for each one which was fun! Love the tastings and the bourbon balls included, yummo! This time we stayed for the third floor cocktail bar. My Boomtown Bramble was one of the most beautiful drinks I've ever been served, and was just the refreshment I wanted to end the warm summer day. Tell you what. Did the speakeasy tour, and it's not a bad little alternative to your standard distillery tour. If you want a standard distillery tour, Evan Williams has it. They'll hit all the points for you. Bourbon must be aged 2 years in new, white oak containers, be 51% corn, yadda yadda yadda. Buttttttt Some of us are honestly a little tired of it. So I did the speakeasy tour. They take you to the basement to a Prohibition Era bar. The guy hosting the tour is in character. And he pours you some brown water. A neat thing about this tour is you get to taste the red label. That ish goes for $125 upstairs. So it's an opportunity to drink it. Honestly, if I were coming here, I'd do the speakeasy tour. You can save the actual distillery tour for any of the other distilleries in the area. Definite 4 stars. read more

It truly is an experience! We only went on one bourbon tour while in Louisville and I'm so glad we chose Evan Williams! A group of 6 of us went in right before their 3 o'clock tour and they were able to get all of us in. If you have someone with you that doesn't want to do a tasting, their ticket can be discounted. We really enjoyed this tour because we got a little history lesson about Louisville and how it first became a settlement and lesson on how Bourbon is made. Our tour guide was hilarious and really helped elevate the experience. At the end of the experience, you get an intimate tasting experience with 3 different bourbons - we even used a water dropper so we could taste how the bourbon changes when it's mixed with water. When we were done, we were each given a bourbon chocolate ball that was absolutely amazing. The experience ends at the gift shop where you can buy bourbon-related things and taste different sauces made with Evan Williams bourbon (I recommend trying the caramel, it might be the best caramel I've ever had). read more

I love the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience! As someone who is often in Downtown Louisville, I really appreciate that so many of these satellite distilleries are opening up in the area. And Evan Williams was the first! If you're visiting Louisville, this is a must stop! And, even if you live here, it's still definitely worth checking out! I've visited this spot multiple times, and I will continue to go back, becaus it's always a blast. They offer tours and tastings, which are awesome and definitely worth the time and cost, but if you're in a rush you can also just step in to check out the lobby (which is awesome!) and gift shop. They have tons of awesome gifts and the lobby boasts a huge bourbon art installation that's perfect for photos! Possibly the best urban bourbon experience. Great, knowledgeable staff - the tour was a full experience including local history and what makes bourbon, bourbon. Walking in to the Bourbon Experience it was like walking into an Evan Williams shop at Universal Studios. Lots of cool features with a giant pouring bottle of the cheap stuff. I am so glad we made reservations in advance because there was a line waiting that were a few hours out. When we got into the tour it shifted from Universal to old School Disney with movies and talking scenery sharing the history of Evan Williams and Louisville. The information was good but the presentation... In the center they have a small distillery which was neat to see and understand in action. That was actually my favorite part of the tour. When we got upstairs it was once again a scene from old Louisville where we did our tasting. The education piece of the tour was good, and the Bourbon was ok. My actual favorite was the "house blend" that could only be bough there. It was a mix of the different bourbons, the leftovers, blended together. The batch that we drank was better than the 12 year. Just like the amusement parks, the ride ended in the gift shop. It was worth doing due to the (now contested) history of Evan Williams as the first Distiller in Louisville. Evan Williams was the second stop on my journey through the Bourbon Trail. I started at Jim Beam, which is a much larger facility and has a whole lot more to it, so I was a bit surprised at how little Evan Williams had compared to that. I shouldn't have been shocked though since it is located downtown, so obviously everything can't be right there with the tour. Our tour started at 4:00, we got there early so they let us hop on one of the earlier tours. Our tour guide Rob was awesome and you could tell that he had a lot of knowledge towards their bourbon and company. The tour is about 50 minutes long, but it goes by quick. Most of the tour consists of watching videos and listening to your guide talk about the history, and then of course ending with a tasting. I think I enjoyed this tasting more than the last distillery because we got to experiment with water, and learn about the different notes of each bourbon. The one fuss I have is that I do not think kids should be allowed on the tour; or at least in the tasting room. There were multiple kids on the one we went on and they were screaming over the tour guide, crying and were all over the place once we were in the tasting room, which is basically the same set up as a bar. I just feel like this can be unsafe for them and it's not like they are going to get anything out of the tour anyways. Overall it's still a fun tour, and even gives you some background on Louisville back in the day -- it's especially great for tourists looking for something fun to do! read more

This is one of the most commercial bourbon tours I've ever been to. I'm sure a lot of tourists come, but so do lots of families. I don't typically see kids at these kinds of tours, but today I did. I've previously visited Heaven Hill, which is the distillery that Evan Williams is under. I think that everyone should visit Heaven Hill even if you come to Evan Williams. It gives you more of a wholistic picture of what they do. This can be for bourbon fans, but you also don't have to be to come here. We were a group of 10. 5 of us came on time for the 11:40 on a Saturday morning and the other 5 were about five minutes late. It seemed like the lady at the counter was mad, but she was actually worried and flustered for us. She approached me at the end of the tour and asked how I enjoyed it with a huge smile. They're so nice here! The tour is exactly one hour. It doesn't have the same thoroughness as other distillery tours I've been to, but our tour guide still did a great job. I always learn something new even though a lot of information is the same at any distillery. We tasted four types of Evan Williams and of course, had to have the bourbon chocolates. It's my favorite part! It was light in the chocolate and not as strong as I prefer. I kinda wish they guided you more with how to taste the flavors of each bourbon. This seemed a bit rushed. I know they're time-centered here, but it matters to guide people who don't know much about bourbon. My family really enjoyed it overall. Not all of them liked the taste, but a few of them really did and bought a few bottles. They all liked smelling it though! They don't hold a lot of barrels here so again, go to Heaven Hill for the full experience. You can bring water in here too. So no worries if you need a quick hydrating swig after tasting the bourbon. I also enjoyed the gift shop. It's small, but the space for the whole place overall isn't huge. They sold some of the other Heaven Hill products here, sauces, tumblers, shirts, mugs, coffee too! My friends and I took a mini couples trip to Louisville and we made sure this was first on our list. We all bought our tickets ahead of time and arrived a little early before our tour started. From the outside it doesn't look like this place is that big, but once you step inside that all changes. There's this cool giant bourbon glass with "bourbon" pouring out. We ventured to the 2nd floor to check out the gift shop and there were just so many bourbons and bourbon related things to buy. The bourbon tasting started with some history about how Evan Williams got started, then we got to see some behind the scenes action of how the bourbon is made.
