On our last visit to Louisville we basically had a private tour. We checked in and were asked if we wanted to take an drinks on the tour. I opted for the black walnut Manhattan which was very well made. The tour takes you through interesting parts of the Distillery history, a crazy story by the way, as we as Prohibition. At the end of the tour you would normally go to a tasting room but since we were the only ones, he took us up and pulled samples with a whiskey thief from the barrell. It was so much fun and they had so many unique options to try. We rook a bottle of the french oak home. Definitely recommend stopping on your next Louisville trip and ask for our tour guide George. read more

Prohibition is definitely off the beaten path. It's small, mostly local (only shipping a few of their MANY whiskies nationwide) and should be on your list to visit! The space is cozy, and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Perfect spot for our Saturday afternoon. In contrast to Peerless, the high proof selections here at Prohibition were incredible. The unique styles and flavor profiles that their distillers have created had me rethinking everything I thought I knew about barrel proof libations. My favorites were the agave spirit (añejo) and the toasted bourbon. The amburana barrel aged whiskey blew me away! It's like nothing you've ever tasted I guarantee. This was easily my favorite whiskey on the trail. 10/10 would recommend! Do NOT miss this! read more

Fun hipster bar to enjoy learning the nuances of the dram. Took a cocktail class here for a bachelor weekend and we came out educated and pleased with the tasty classics we indulged. Morgan was the master mixologist. She was knowledgeable about the origin of the products and honestly we all enjoyed her vibe. She was both relaxed and impactful, I felt like we got a taste of Portland out of the experience as well. We walked through 3 drinks; starting with a Martini, then a Margherita, and lastly being an old fashion. Morgan's style is affectionately "bitter old b!" She favors products that are more natural and retro, with a dryer flavor profile. I've had cocktails in dive bars and up scale establishments, and I can truly say that her drinks showcase that sophistication and appreciation of the ingredients. It was engaging, and we felt like the time flew by and was well worth the value. I'm not a fan of martinis, but I appreciated hers. The margs and old fashion were right up our alley, and were good choices to end the class. Would recommend this to friends visiting the area. read more

Do yourself a favor and only order Prohibition spirits as you can get the rat somewhere else. We did a tasting and then had drinks. In order of my preference we had Amburana, Cask, Toasted French Oak, Single Barrel Rye, Double Oak and then the Highlands Gin. After our tasting my hubby had an old fashioned and I had their Arnold Palmer cherry slushie. I could have drunk this all day long. We will be back for a tour. read more

For a standard tour/tasting I would give that tour 4 stars. Sometimes the tours can be a little too crowded and loud as they get as many folks in as possible. However I bump my review up to 5 stars because we recently did a cocktail class with Morgan that was above and beyond!! The value for the money, her breadth of knowledge, and the experience were well worth every penny. Will be doing that one again!! read more

Loved this place and experience! The tour is super fun and informative. I like learning, so this mob education was the perfect pairing for me. The alcohol education was vast as well. Different type of tour and tasting. They make bourbon, gin, vodka and tequila. First part was museum like talking about gangsters and illegal stills. 19 year old was giving the tour. She spoke too fast and laughed a lot. She also said to pass over the sponsors because it is boring and no one cares. If I was sponsoring this place, I would not be too happy with that comment. The production floor was very small. They just bought a funeral home across the street and made it bottling line. They had 7 tastings (3 tequila, 2 rye, 1 gin, 1 bourbon) but you could only choose 3. They explained it was due to KY laws. This is bunk because we went to 3 other bourbon distilleries over 2 days and had between 5 and 6 tastes at each. The others gave us nice glasses to use instead of small plastic cups. Also encouraging people to share with their neighbor in the time of covid isn't cool. Tour was pricey! Must book in advance. Next door was their bar with expensive drinks. We added this tour because it was available and most others were sold out. Now we know why. If you have nothing else to do - sure; but otherwise I wouldn't bother. read more

Absolutely loved the tour that we did here. Loved the local history that was tied into the Prohibition era. The bar had amazing cocktails that you can also take on your tour. The guide did a great job and mentioned that they were going to be renovating the tasting area to have a speakeasy feel. Can't wait to go back when that is complete. Prohibition Craft Spirits spirits is a Baxter ave bar in Lousiville located right next door to popular Mexican eatery called agave. Me and my buddy Jeremy j visited here on a sleepy late December Tuesday night and it wasn't very crowded. The decor here is pretty nice and they have a lovely bar area. Inside is smaller but they have a huge covered patio that is awesome for good weather nights. The menu pricing is a bit on the high ends. But this is a popular area for bar hopping for locals and tourists so you expect that. One probably orders what's called a Nulu old fashioned. Nulu baker after popular neighborhood that o thought was a few blocks away but maybe begins around This area. The drink was actually really good. Had a nice flavor and taste. I couldn't taste the alcohol much so makes me think was a light pour but it was jam packed full of other ingredients so maybe not. For the price I kinda wish it had a little bit more substance. Was a quick drink that I can imagine could catch up to you financially and your equilibrium levels fast if you weee pounding them back. My buddy went with knob creek 9 year which was a few bucks cheaper at around. $8 or so. Knob creek is a nice tasting bourbon so I was familiar already. He enjoyed it a lot. Overall workers here were nice and helpful and the place had a good vibe to it and it's a place I could see myself coming back and relaxing for a few drinks. read more

Was in town for a graduation and decided to check out this place. This was the 2nd tour and this one was VERY entertaining. Ken was the bomb and very knowledgeable. There's also a full bar we hung out in after the tour. I highly recommend. read more

We got here really early for our tour and ended up at the bar. I had an incredible bourbon sour and my sister had their sunrise drink. She loved it! When it was time for the tour, Savon came and got us so we didn't miss it. He actually even gave us a ten minute warning so we could get another drink for the tour if we wanted. Oh man, Savon is a character. Absolutely entertaining with a lot of fun tidbits about prohibition and Louisville thrown in. I loved that this was a history tour with some old moonshine history thrown in instead of just a "this is how we make alcohol and this is our room" tour. We then got to try some good spirits at the end. The (not) tequilas we're pretty darn good. I would recommend this place for anyone coming to Louisville. Especially since they do tours after most distilleries have closed. read more

Came here for a tour and Bob was our guide. I would highly recommend checking NULU out for a tour. I've been on numerous distillery tours at the big distilleries and they feel so scripted. We went through a brief history of bourbon and how NULU started and their back story of getting raided which was funny. Bob made it seem like less of a tour and more of a conversation. Since it was a slow day and we were the last tour we were able to thief from the barrels they had available which was cool, I haven't done that before. Their bourbons may be sourced but they try to think creatively/outside the box when they age them. Perfect example is their toasted four grain. As far as I'm aware they're the only distillery that does that and it's my favorite of theirs. At the end we did try their tequilas which were pretty good, their extra anejo was superb and it's a great balance. read more

It's hard to remember now that bourbon tourism in Louisville was nearly nonexistent a decade ago. Now, not only do we have great tours up and down Main Street and bleeding into the neighborhoods, but it's also gotten to the point when these tours are getting booked up many weeks in advance. The crushing demand for a good tourist experience has certainly been to the benefit of the little guys like Prohibition Craft Spirits, which is just starting to get off the ground. Are the in-laws coming to town at the end of next month? You'd probably do better to book Angel's Envy or Evan Williams or Rabbit Hole. Those tours will be more straightforward, with big vats of fermenting beer, working stills, the whole nine yards. Prohibition Spirits isn't quite there yet, but they are absolutely a fine consolation prize if the others are full. They have found a good schtick in giving a good history tour, and they thankfully aren't trying to be something they are not (yet). Our tour guide here was aces. The tasting was fun. The atmosphere was spirited (pun intended). And I really look forward to seeing this place evolve. read more

Museum like tour prior to a tasting of good spirits! I toured several distilleries in N. Kentucky and this was by far the most fun! The tour starts of with a history of Prohibition. The tour guide was lively and fun! After the museum pieces you got a look at the warehouse and stills. Then of course you got to try 5 spirits; vodka, gin, two different tequilas, and a bourbon. The tour does exit to the bar, where you have a chance to purchase bottles of their spirits or have a craft cocktail from one of the great bartenders. I'm here for a few more days, and will probably return just to grab a cocktail! read more

This is an amazing bar!! The menu is superb with drink mixed I have never seen with amazing balanced flavors. MORGAN is an awesome bar tender!! She explained the drinks and how the flavors balance. Prohibition Craft Spirits is pretty dapper. We came here for a New Years Eve party they were hosting and had a nice time. So this review is pretty much based off of the space itself and the bar area. Before even walking in, this place looks so new and fresh, and I love that. It adds immediate charm to Baxter Ave! The bar itself is a small, but nice space and has plenty of seating. Some board games too! I got a small glimpse of the distillery section, which is pretty big. The bartender working on New Year's Eve was very friendly, and knew how to make a kick ass bourbon sour. They also have some neat liquors named after Louisville neighborhoods. I would already love to come back for a distillery tour someday. read more

After the tour we had our tasting of 3 spirits of our choice. They were all good, especially the bourbon. Attached to the distillery is the bar. First visit to a new establishment was a nice experience. By invite from friends we visited to experience the live band karaoke known as Full Contact Karaoke. PCS's has a unique vibe reminiscent of a bar/ industrial/ distillery feel with small barrels as stand alone drink/ tables as well as a few booths and high top tables This is a venue happily geared to live music which supports local musicians. The place has it own brand of liquor's which is distilled on site. Local again, and is proudly served at a awesome rustic one piece wood bar make from a once huge oak. Came for the tour, stayed for the drinks!! What a great night! The hubs and I came here for the 8pm tour. Skeeter was the best tour guide! Great guy, funny and informative. He gave us a chunk of history as well as the bourbon making process. Ended up buying a bottle of the gin (surprised us since we're bourbon drinkers!) and then heading to the bar. If you end up just hitting the bar, try the cucumber mint mojito. Light and summery. Perfect for hot summer nights. read more

Recently we had dinner next door to Prohibition Craft Spirits, so afterward we randomly decided to walk in and check it out. We were the only two in the bar, and the bartender was practicing social distancing and wearing a mask the entire time, so we felt really safe visiting. There's a full-service bar, and the bartender was awesome! They had a Winter Cocktail Specials menu, so I opted to order from that. I selected the Winter Sour, which was Whiskey, Lemon Juice, Orange Juice, Simple Syrup, and Egg Whites. Prohibition hand-crafts small-batch spirits, and that's just what was used in this cocktail, their NULU Single Barrel: Barrel Proof Bourbon. It was delicious! B opted for a Margarita, crafted with Prohibition's NULU Reposado. They like to call this spirit "better-than-tequila," but personally I would just call it "different." It's not bad, but it's definitely a different flavor than the tequila you're used to. They use Blue Agave from Mexico that they age in bourbon barrels here in Kentucky. I definitely recommend trying it, just don't go in expecting your standard tequila flavor. While we only sat in the bar area just inside, our conversation with the bartender informed us that this spot houses multiple bars (currently two, and they're working on expanding to offer more), offers tours and tastings, as well as event space, and they have a kitchen and offer a full food menu. Our experience here was great. It was super chill, the bartender was fantastic, and we learned a lot about a new-to-us spot! I would love to return for a tour in the future! read more

Had an absolutely incredible experience with the barrel pick tour. Bob and Alice were absolutely amazing, and Bob made our barrel pick experience so special. Because this is a newer distillery they aren't going to have as much history as some other distilleries, but getting to select your own bottle out of a cask you tasted from was invaluable and such a good experience. Bob went the extra mile to make our visit special for which we are so grateful. Fantastic experience! read more

I was looking for a distillery tour and stumble across this place. It was awesome. The best distillery tour that I have been on by far. They not only cover bourbon, but they cover gin, rum, and tequila as well. The tour was very educational and takes you through the prohibition years and the making of their liquors. They cover gangsters, NASCAR, making booze, licensing and local prohibition history. Did I mention that the distillery has some history with it as well. Our tour guide, Brittany was the best. We could not have picked a better guide. The entire staff was friendly, helpful, courthouses, knowledgeable, down to earth, and witty. Made me almost want to submit an application. There is a tasing of some of the liquor after the tour. Yes, please. You can sample 3 of their 7 or 8 liquors that you were introduced to on the tour. After the tour and during the tasting, we met Josh from the kitchen, and the distiller, Harry, came out and joined us as well. We also met the bartender (sorry we did not get her name) but she took a break from working the patio like a boss to say hi. This is one of the few distilleries that allow you to visit the actually production, which is mostly by hand. It is a small operation with a big wow. They have a private parking lot in the back, which is free and nearby street parking as well. The bottles of liquor there are reasonably priced (most under $55)and they have some smooth tasting liquor there. Some of there liquor they sell there has a big punch, boosting over 100 proof. The distantly serves food, has an outdoor patio and the venue can be rented out for special events. I thought the DJ booth shaped like a barrel was the most awesome thing. I loved, loved, loved my tour and highly recommend anyone in the market for a tour of a distillery to check this place out. It is the best around and I promise that you won't be disappointed. read more

We stopped in here while in town to see what they had for drinks, and it was okay. Their house alcohol tasted great, it's real bartending so not the cheap mixers, and the service is quick and great. They also are very accommodating to COVID. However, it wasn't anything special for the drink prices - we've definitely had better drinks for the same price in the area. The worst part was the food, we had a few appetizers and they really should stick to drinks. Everything we had was frozen/out of a can - which was extremely disappointing. We were sad we wasted our bellies on something here when there's such great food around Louisville. read more

This was a very bad experience. I took a group here previously, and one person missed out on going...so here was her chance. The bartender was negative, lacked any type of personality. Almost seemed under some influence. She wasn't friendly..spaced out a bit...and didn't listen. She literally just stood at the corner for a second likecwe weren't there. I SPECIFICALLY asked her how much tastings were and she was all over the place. So, I asked how much a flight was and once I told her what we were picking she said abt SIX bucks each.. Um....how about none of them were. All were 8 and HIGHER!!!. 1oz pour of nulu products...really?? Evergreen liquors had them for 5 each, but I was trying to support...not be robbed and lied to. Additionally she talked about other customers to us calling them "cartoon characters" Tacky. There were other things, but I think you get the idea. Unfortunate disaster. read more

This place is so fun! Highly recommend taking the tour. I think it made me really appreciate what they're trying to do here with the craft spirits. It's fun and I actually learned a few things! They bottle everything by hand, how cool is that? And age their "tequila" in bourbon barrels. How very Kentucky of them. One of the better gins I've tried (not typically a gin fan). We went on a tour through the distillery, and it was AWESOME! Our tour guide was amazing, and she really knew her stuff. The tour was based around the Prohibition era and I learned a lot that I didn't know! Lots of Louisville history too and even learned a little bit about how the place got it's start (which was SO interesting and surprising in itself). We tried 6 different spirits including gin, agave, vodka, and rum. I do not claim to be a gin or rum drinker by any means, but I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed them. Good cocktails, friendly staff. I've been here a few times, and always just on a whim. That whim has always treated me well and left me having a lovely time. I am sure most of that is thanks to the company I was with, but the location didn't hurt. I have only come to the bar portion, never done a tour or tasting. My first visit was late on a Sunday, about an hour before closing. I was concerned the bartenders would be miffed at us, but they were welcoming and enthusiastic with recommendations and suggestions. My friend and I each had two cocktails, chatted with the bartenders, and had an overall grand time! My second visit was as part two of a date. We wanted some cocktails and to keep chatting. I suggested Prohibition. Again the drinks were pretty a-ok. Chatting wasn't totally possible, as karaoke was starting. And I am a karaoke queen and snob :-P And a friend of mine was running the event. The sound system wasn't great at all, and where the 'stage' was set up was not terribly logical. But again...I love karaoke. So I sang a couple songs, we had a couple drinks, and we were on our way. The more I think about it, the more this spot feels like a one (or two) drink place on your way somewhere else or at the end of the night. For me, it isn't a place I would go to spend a whole evening. It is a side quest, not a main goal. But it is a pretty decent and fun one. read more

The Drinks: The taste testing was good, my friend loved the Vodka (which they hate Vodka typically) The Service: The tour guide was awesome! Cleanliness: everywhere felt clean Bathrooms: bathrooms were clean Parking: we parked a few blocks away in a free parking area and walked over.
