My hubs birthday. So I made reservations. Never been here before and the restaurant has great reviews Jackie was an excellent server. Service was a little slow, but not a big deal. We ordered an appetizer. Yummy! Goat cheese and bread. I ordered the special which was a salmon dish. One of the best dinners I have ever had! My spouse ordered the wagyu. He was not as impressed with his dinner. He didn't eat most of the beef and brought it home to our dog. The dog loved it. An observation.. There were many tables of just women dining in both larger groups and in twos. Both in the bar and dining area. That is a good sign. Women, IMO tend to frequent the restaurants that serve fresher foods. read more

I grew up in Tuscaloosa and never tried this place. My sister and I always thought it was an "exclusive" place. When we were students at UA if our friends wanted a nice meal, we stuck to Chuck's Fish, Ocean in Bham and Cypress Inn when it still existed. This was nicer than all of those experiences combined. This is the best restaurant in Tuscaloosa in my opinion. Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Quality 10/10 Location 10/10 We celebrated my parents 45th wedding anniversary here and it was a fabulous night top to bottom. I initially tried getting a reservation at River but was told they were all booked out and that we would have to come at 4:30 and just wait around until a table became available. I didn't want to put my parents through that. I called Evangeline's and they were extremely polite and accommodating. I told them we were celebrating my parents and they said they would bring out a toast and a dessert. I asked if they could they make the toast non alcoholic and they remembered and brought out ginger ale for my conservative Muslim family. Please get the bread when you dine here. It has nigella black seeds in it and is served warm. It reminded me of Middle Eastern style bread. The bar tender makes the best virgin strawberry lemonade mocktail I have ever had. I can't stop raving about this place. Only complaint was one our servers misheard me when I asked her to pack my Brussels sprouts in my box. They were missing and I was bummed because they were fantastic. The chef really knows how to cook with natural flavors and everything tasted exceptional. disappointed by this dish as the chicken was extremely touch and chewy. ( we did not complain or notify the chef). Sauce was delicate. Could have used more vegetables. Evangeline's is our go-to for date night and pretty much any other night! We love how it is upscale, but also completely welcoming. Our faves on the menu are the crab cakes as an appetizer; sea scallops, shrimp and grits,and filet mignon as entrees; and ALL of the desserts. This restaurant, with all its glittering ambiance and popularity, never meets expectations. Its menu is vegetarian-oblivious/intolerant/hostile. Though they laud their own use of local produce, they don't "produce" any vegetarian choices. Many menu items will be sold out even when you arrive for a 6:15 reservation. Serving portions are minute. The lobster ravioli main course, for example, featured TWO ravioli. The greatest flaw, having ruined many would-be special occasions here, is the utter lack of pacing. They fail to take orders, deliver orders, clear, and serve second or third courses. Prepare to be left alone by your server, and forgotten by the chef. read more

Evangeline's is definitely one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Tuscaloosa. I've only been there twice, but I'm already planning my next visit. You have to make sure to get a reservation with Elo, she's an exceptional server! She was accommodating to my group and me. We had such a great time that we ended up staying for like 3 hours. We started with drinks and then enjoyed our delicious entrées. The drinks were spot on and the food was absolutely decadent! I got so caught up in the moment that I forgot to get pictures of myself and my best girlfriend, and only took pictures of the food, drinks and our hubbies. That's when you know the food was good! We love that the atmosphere at Evangeline's was intimate and not too crowded. It's nice to be able to have a conversation without yelling. Elo and the managers checked on us and made sure everything was perfect. The staff really knows how to make you feel taken care of. Good service. Friendly staff (of those I encountered). Nice atmosphere. The food was just marginal in my opinion. My wife complained to me that her filet was not exceptional. The names of the menu items was confusing (especially since I've never been there). I ordered two menu items and received only one that seemed to be a combination of the two. I ordered a Cardini salad and Crab Cake Cardini and received a salad with crab cakes on it. So I think that even our server was confused. The one thing I'm unhappy about it that our receipt shows we were charged for each refill of TEA. No alcohol. Just tea. Being charged per refill for tea makes me feel like I was duped into paying for something that isn't standard with any type of sit down establishment that serves food. What type restaurant charges per refill for tea? Overall, not a bad experience but I don't feel compelled to go again. I would also recommend Chucks or River over Evangeline's. read more

We had a fabulous experience at Evangeline's about two weeks ago for a celebration. We took our daughter and her grandparents. It was special from beginning to end from the dark and inviting entrance to the tables that were spaced to feel cozy but not cramped. We were seated promptly to a beautiful table and greeted by our server Rose Mary. She immediately made us feel welcome and recommended various cocktails to start our festivities. She had the perfect combination of attentiveness and allowing us to enjoy each other and leisurely enjoy our drinks and courses. She was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent appetizer and main course options. We loved the calamari appetizer. It had the right amount of heat to the sauce to make it delightfully memorable. Several of us had the Sea Bass special and it was delicious. Overall the drinks and food set the weekend celebration out to a wonderful start. We will be back. read more

Nice location and ambiance but we weren't very impressed with the food. Got the wedge salad and it wasn't very good. Then had the bronzed snapper with tomato risotto and fried zucchini. The snapper was good and the zucchini was delicious but the risotto was undercooked. My dining partner had the filet and enjoyed it. read more

Stopped in this place today looking for some good food. I found it. I dont know why, but the menu wasn't posted online, so I went in and took a chance and I'm glad I did. From the minute we walked in the door we were greeted by a friendly and professional crew, and that friendliness and professionalism persisted throughout the entire experience. 5 stars on that for sure. The room is really nice, tastefully decorated and gives off a vibe that is both polished and welcoming. A fair amount of seating and a full bar mean that you shouldn't have a problem finding a seat, although I can imagine that during peak times there could be a wait. The menu had a nice variety of things that left me a bit torn about what to order, but I settled on a filet mignon and my friend had a burger. Both exceeded expectations. The steak was charred and delicious. The mashed potatoes were better than the ones I make at home. My friend's burger was massive and loaded with toppings. A full meal in and of itself. The portions here are substantial and the prices are more than reasonable. You don't need 3 or 4 courses to get full. For desert I had a heath bar cheesecake. Pics, words, etc cannot do it justice. It was freshly made and creamy and delicious. Rich but light...hard to explain but I'm certain that if I'm back here I'll have it again. So overall a really great place. Extraordinarily good service, excellent food, and a really nice place to enjoy a meal. The wine list is extensive and comprehensive, and the menu has something for everyone. Just had a delightful lunch at Evangeline's. Myself and my grandmother came at 11:30. It wasn't too busy at all and had a nice conversational atmosphere. Our waitress was quick and attentive to our needs and took our order as soon as we were ready. I order the Parmesan catfish, which is odd because I don't really like fish, but it looked and sounded delicious! My grandma order the Asian chicken salad, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was fried nicely, and the dressing was just to die for. My fish was super good and cheesy. I enjoyed the grits and green beans the most, but the fish was delicious to someone who doesn't like fish that much. We finished with the creme brûlée and Kahlua cheesecake. My creme brûlée was a wonderful light finish. My grandma said she enjoyed her cheesecake. Overall the meal price wasn't too bad for two people. Definitely a great place for lunch! read more
