Years ago I ate here with college friends. It has a family feel with old booths. I took my parents here for the first time. Our server was friendly and kind. She allowed plenty of time while my parents ordered and didn't rush them. Good serving portions. Macaroni and cheese, fried okra, and blackberry cobbler. Cole slaw was some of the best I've had and my favorite side. It tasted so much like my mother-in-law's did. I miss her's and her cooking.It's finely shredded and not loaded in mayonnaise. The food is good and cheap but the service is bad. It is not the servers fault at all. Why would you have only 2 servers for lunch time. Not only are they serving tables but they are having to do take out orders and check people out. Long line to check out and full restaurant. They need to hire more servers. read more

Service was superb and the food was good. I had the chicken livers with greens and buttered squash. All of which was pretty tasty. My friend had the catfish plate with slaw and potato salad. It was also good. Great hush puppies btw! The reason for three stars? The food is good, but just good. A lot of room for improvement but I will definitely try it again soon. read more

It really doesn't matter if the food is decent and inexpensive, if the service is not only bad, but RUDE! I had probably been in Wright's once or twice a week for the last few months for breakfast (having moved close to there recently), and enjoyed having my breakfast, drinking coffee, and working on my laptop, usually at the same booth in a corner. I had never had an issue with a server before - ALL before being anywhere from polite to extremely nice and friendly - until my next-to-last visit. On that day, a waitress with a very bad attitude waited on me, which I just ignored ... until she didn't let me. I had finished eating and asked for a refill of coffee, and she rolled her eyes. Yep, rolled her eyes before walking away. She brought it, and I sat there with my laptop, drinking my coffee. And by the way, I ALWAYS tip $5.00, even when that represents a 30 - 40% (or more) tip. (Breakfast is not expensive at all.) A few minutes later, she came back, and said, with a scowl on her face, (and I quote): "Are you going to be here much longer? Because the lunch crowd is starting to come in." Now, I realize that if there was a line, I needed to vacate that table. And/but there are SO many ways for a civilized human being in the food service industry to express that, with a smile on their face. Three men sitting at nearby tables heard her, and whipped their heads around in shock at her rudeness. One of them even said, as she walked away, "Hey, it's not worth it. She's always like that." (I guess afraid I was about to cuss her out.) So, as I was paying my check, I told the girl (who I think is the owner's granddaughter) who appeared to be in charge about what occurred. She was very apologetic, and said she would address it with the waitress as well as the owner. The very next time I was in there - yet again giving them my money that can be spent at MANY other restaurants - I joined two friends, and all of us ordered full breakfasts with drinks, etc. After my friends left, I got out my laptop and plugged it in, and went to the restroom. When I came back out, an older lady with a hairnet on was standing there with a sour expression on her face, and said, "I unplugged it." I asked her why, and she said because other customers were coming in (makes no sense, I know). She then said, "And they told me what happened the other day, and you can't just stay at a table with your computer. Is this your office or something?" Um, yeah. Did you read that I BUY FOOD AND DRINKS every time I come? That I often invite people to join me, who also buy food and drinks? That I tip well? Would she have asked someone playing crosswords or Sudoku such an idiotic question? Or asked someone reading their BIble, "Is this your church, or something?" And then, somewhere in her blatant, in-my-face, rudeness, she told me that she was the OWNER. So, what had happened was ... the owner gets a complaint from a (previously) regular customer, and rather than address it nicely, she very inappropriately touches a customer's possessions while they are away from their booth, is rude (and actually, more than rude - crass and crude - I would NEVER have suspected she was the owner), and ensures that neither I, nor anyone else who has frequented there with me, goes back. Again, FAR more choices! With better food (you get what you pay for), and smiling servers and owners who APPRECIATE your presence and dollars in their establishments. There are SO many great breakfast places in Tuscaloosa, as well as meat and threes. A new meat and three is King's Kitchen, which is delicious, very clean, great prices, and the service is impeccable! And Tuscaloosa has quite a few wonderful breakfast places, including even Waffle Wouses! (Where the service and food are ALWAYS good, and the servers are trained, whether they feel like it or not, to be NICE!) Although more expensive, Metro Diner, Another Broken Egg, and Holler & Dash are all 5 stars! And, get this... NONE of them care if you sit and stay a while!! :) read more

So 85 mins into it, had to get up and leave with no food, nothing, absolutely insane to have a wait that long for regular breakfast, absurd really. They should have just put a sign up that they we closed instead making people waste most of a Saturday morning. Can't comment on the food because we never actually ate. I got the chicken and dumplings with mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, and cherry dump cake. Chicken and Dumpling was wonderful, so was the broccoli casserole. Mashed potatoes were average. I like streak of lean, an old southern favorite which cannot be found in many restaurants... Always fried crisp with good portions... I live about two miles from this restaurant and always wanted to try it because, whenever I passed, I saw a full or semi-full parking lot. Had high expectations that the restaurant would feature some tasty home-cooking. Finally was able to try it out and I & my dinner guests shared meals where we sampled the following meats: fried chicken livers, Salisbury Steak, and BBQ ribs. The livers were over-fried and flavorless and the steak was just ok. The BBQ (pork) was pressure-cooked and, as a result, very tender. Of all three, it was, by far, the tastiest meat. For sides, we had field peas, collard greens, banana pudding, fried okra, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, and jello. You can't go too wrong w/ mashed potatoes and field peas - these were tasty. The greens and banana pudding were decent but the squash was swimming in butter and watery. I do not recommend the friend okra. It was dry and overcooked. Unfortunately, it was not even edible. I would also pass on the jello. That being said, the daily specials are cheap with all options being under $6 for a substantial amount of food (including dinner rolls or muffins) and the staff was just precious! EXTREMELY friendly, which added to that home-town feel. I do like a survival story and respect that Wright's has been able to resurface and thrive, even after being affected by the devastating 27 Apr 11 tornado that struck the area. If you are a decent home cook, you can prepare a tastier meal at home; however, if you are looking for a cheaply-priced ok meal and friendly atmosphere, you can try Wright's. read more

Looking for a cozy environment with excellent comfort food? This is the place for you. My best friends love Wright's Restaurant! They always brag about how delicious and affordable the food is, especially for the portions of food. So, finally, we planned a lunch date and came in to eat. There was four of us and we sat in a booth. Immediately upon walking in, I loved the environment. It was a cute quaint place that you could tell was mom and pop owned. It was pretty crowded. The food was excellent, and extremely affordable. (CHEAP!!!) My friend Abbi had the chicken and dressing, Lindsey had the grilled chicken tender sandwich with fries and a side salad, and I had chicken tenders with fries and a side salad. The only thing that sucked was our server. I hate to be ugly, but she just seemed so miserable and did not make us feel welcomed. Lindsey goes in once a week and usually has Katie as her server, who is an absolute doll. Unfortunately, I think our server may have been under the impression that maybe we would tip well since were college students. As soon as she walked up to the table she seemed uninterested and bothered. But, we noticed, she was extremely attentive and friendly to the older couple next to us. Such a shame. I have eaten at Wright's numerous times and it has always been delicious. The waitresses all are nice and friendly. I have had to take food home in a box due to too much food for my money. Never had corn nuggets before and they were awesome. They have daily specials that are different everyday.
