So sad to see how small the store is post pandemic and the decline in quality of customer service. I make and sell feather fans and have a custom order for a pair of burlesque fans for which I would have dropped several hundred dollars in ostrich plumes at Hai's. I asked if they are planning to reopen the back, where you used to be able to pick through shelves and shelves of floss plumes of every color of the rainbow. No, they won't come back, fair enough. But I could not manage to have even one of three salespeople help me price out a bulk discount for the feathers they have in stock, (which are now almost twice the price per feather btw). Or even help me look at colors. Hai's used to have the best salespeople, very outgoing and helpful. No more. So it's inventory day maybe?, but have at least one person actively working the floor. So, if you are looking for feathers (natural at a place called trim and feathers), Do what I did and find a bulk supplier online. There are several businesses that stock only feathers. Glad I stumbled upon this store. Tons of items at fair prices. The bulk of their items are: feathers, appliqués with beads, sequins, rhinestones, and/or embroidery, loose sew-on and heat applied rhinestones and studs. Then they have some chains, tapings, patches and fashion jewelry (necklace, bracelets, cuffs). It seems like the perfect place for someone making a carnival or parade costume. In my case, someone looking to embellish an existing piece. You can really be inspired! As for customer service, I had no issues and the guy who rung me up, was polite. They could use a few more employees on the floor available for questions. That said I do appreciate that they don't watch you as a hawk as some trim retailers tend to do. Our business package was sent to him by mistake and this kind man went way out of his way to call me and text me about it. Then he offered to drop off our package at the Fedex Ground location even though it was not his problem ! Who does something like that anymore, let alone a NYC guy ? Heaven! Where I live in Florida, we don't have amazing stores like this and it's such a shame. Being a burlesque performer, I'm always looking for rhinestones, beaded fringe, appliques, and feathers, and being able to pick them out and buy them in person is a real treat. Prices are pretty reasonable (though I personally felt the beaded fringe was really expensive), and I got a good amount of rhinestones for a fair price. I had to limit what I brought back with me, which was definitely good for my wallet! I would have bought everything if I could have. Employees are super friendly, and willing to help you find anything you might be looking for. A great shop full of costuming inspiration. I already can't wait to go back, though I'll have to get another suitcase to take everything I buy home with me! Brief update: I decided I wanted to order more of the rhinestones that I purchased in the brick and mortar store. I sent an email to Hai, and the amazing Franz helped get my rhinestones packed up and shipped out to me the same day. This is my favorite place in the entire world. They are always busy , but for the most part someone is there to help you out immediately. They have a huge selections or rhinestones from plastic to Swarovski . Beads, feathers, appliqués ...you name it. Staff is always friendly, I've been shopping with them for years . This store has an amazing selection & the kindest workers in the garment district! It is super organized and clean in here. There was one man who was younger who greeted me & helped me find just what I needed. The people that work here are incredibly helpful & nice, which is a rare sight in NYC. I love Hai's Trimming. I bought some rhinestone appliques for my sisters wedding garter here and a few others trims i needed for my mothers dress. They are very helpful but also very watchful of people. They may come across over protective but i totally understand with all the blingy stuff in the store. Definitely not the place to go if you want to be in and out because you will get so inspired to make so much more with all the beautiful items they have! :-) read more

Beads, trim, feathers, ribbons, crystals. You you name it they have it. After going to several other stores I stumbled upon this store and was so happy I went around checking everyone's prices. They prices were unbeatable to the other competition in the area and the staff was very helpful and patient. I decided to make my own costume this year for Trinidad carnival and I felt overwhelmed. I had my wire bra in hand but I had so many different ideas. After being helped by one of the male employees, I forgot his name, I was able to narrow down my idea. He had great ideas to help lesson my work time and showed me different appliques to use and how to finish out my project. I couldn't ask for better assistance. They also have mannequins modeling costumes to help you figure out some ideas. They have a vast amount of items and are eager to help you make the right decisions. This will definitely be my home base for my future costume designs. read more

Today was my first time in this store. While most of the stuff they carry is like any other trimming store, I was greatly impressed by their glitzy, shiny, shimmering rhinestone bras and outfits they have on display in the back. They even had full body chains but cost an arm and a leg. Super gorgeous. Their rhinestone necklaces and body chains are to die for. A small selection of fabrics is also available but the selection is sparse at the moment. Even those are super glitzy. :P The workers leave you alone to browse. A good plus. I would say this store is only good if you're looking for rhinestones and highly glitzy trimmings for the selection of the regular kind is not as good. read more

This place is awe-inspiring! I'm not sure why it doesn't have more reviews. If you want to make your own Caribbean carnival outfit or get beading, feathers, ribbon, or anything sparkly they have stuff that I didn't even know existed. They have three different types of crystals ( Czech, Swarovski, and Chinese), and all sorts of sizes and shapes for rhinestones. The prices are pretty good, too. read more

Came here is June. The store was half empty of a lot of their stock as they were relocating to their new location, but they still had exactly what I was looking for. The staff was great and happy to help with my needs! I will def be back! They do have an online store as well, but in store seems to have better selection from what I saw. read more

I went to all the major players in this area before buying my wedding dress trim here. They have a good selection of crystal trim in different sizes and everyone was helpful. They have a sign up that says you can't take photos. If I hadn't found the trim I wanted here, this would've been an issue because I had been taking photos of all the pieces I liked for comparison later. If I hadn't been able to take a photo of the trim at Hai, I probably wouldn't have returned to purchase. I was originally looking only at swarovski so I don't really have a sense of the cost vs. other stores but my trim was approx $60/yard for beautiful crystals. read more

I had such a great experience with one particular employee. It was a Sunday a few weeks back and I didn't realize that all those stores on that strip were closing soon. So I was casually searching for bridal appliques for my bridal gown belt and came upon this store. It was pretty packed and all the employees were occupied so I took it upon myself to search through the appliques and matching trims myself. I couldn't decide and was so enthralled in my search that I didn't realize the store was emptying. One obnoxious employee came to me and instead of asking if I needed help, he said as he was putting on his coat, "You know we're closed right?". Feeling pressure among the employees putting on their coats, standing in a circle, chatting and waiting for me to leave, I chose my applique and went to quickly find a matching trim. Most of the employees eventually left but there was one employee who stuck around. I never got her name but she was a young woman with a kind smile. I kept apologizing for being indecisive and keeping her late and she was so calm, understanding, and patient. She spent time to give me her opinion on which trim matched my applique and which ribbon would be best to sew it on. I had my young niece with me who was fascinated by all the sparkly jewels and respectfully played in the jewel bins and practically touched and played with everything in the store. I was worried that this employee would be annoyed and ask her to stop, instead she was amused, smiled, and remarked that my niece was really enjoying herself. I didn't stay too long and only kept her 15 after the store officially closed but I am so grateful to her and for her help. I didn't feel rushed to make a decision and I'm so happy with the choices she helped me with. Great customer service! Thank you. read more
