I'd walk out happy clutching a new hat box in my hands.. I'd chat with other hat wearers i only visited the new JJs twice. I asked about repairs both times, with almost 2 years between visits, I got the same response both times the repairman got sick & we're between repairmen An authentic hat shop experience should be easy to achieve with just one old-school, experienced hatter from that generation . Someone who could teach the crew & top brass how to run a real old fashioned hat shop. When I come to Manhattan I want to see that old neon Stetson sign and hear the whoosh of the steamer. I looked forward to it, like a piece of old New York. I miss that.

Prices are much better than M&J Trimmings, although the selection of silk flowers is much smaller and not as fancy. Most were $5 or $8 and come with a clip, ponytail holder, and pin already attached, although some just have the clip, for your hair or a lapel. Or a hat. The hats are mostly polyamide and come in every shape, style, and color. This is a fun store, and the cashier was friendly and helpful.

I heard the owners AWESOME British accent and thought to myself "wow it's really a vibe in here." At this exact moment, I spotted a hat that really caught my eye. It was a hat that had a mix matched denim pattern that could be paired with almost any outfit. I had a vision of me buying this hat and it becoming an integral part of my personality. "Oh, there goes the guy with the cool hat walking up 1st ave" onlookers would say as they walked by, jealous of my cool new hat. Cute girls would come up to me at the Wayland and or Ding-a-Ling saying "Oh my god, I love your hat!" ... "You haven't been to East Village Hats!??!?!?!" I would respond to them with a cheeky, endearing smile. However, when I picked up the hat it was like $130 and that's just out of my price range for a hat at this moment. Also, I have an extremely large head so the hat was probably a pipe dream all along. A man could dream can't he...?

No prices were posted anywhere, either, which I find annoying. So you can't touch the hats on your own, and you don't know what they cost. This is, IMO, a very stupid business model. There were at least two sales associates, and the selection was fun. But not being able to pick up a hat without a hovering sales associate, or have any idea of the price, was a total turn-off. We saw some cute things, but left without handling them, or any idea of prices.

1. CON: Hats Club locates in NOHO area of Manhattan, New York. This shop sells mostly (at least 90%) "baseball cap style head dears" (I do not call them "hat"). Their store name is very misleading. I do not like this fact at all. I do not wear baseball cap-like head gears at all now and this is not a store for me. 2. CON: The selection and variety of caps are fairy well but their display is not impressive at all. Their display system for their hats above 6 feet from the ground is completely dysfunctional, by considering the very high ceiling here. The way how they display the real "hats" (no so many) are very poor. I was not happy. 3. CON: I visited this shop for the replacement hat belt for my top hat. Sadly, they had no hat belts or any top hats or any similar formal hats for me. 4. CON: They placed the CLOSED" sign at the door about 20 minutes before their closing time. There was only one customer inside. 5. PRO: The store lighting is excellent. With this, you can correctly see the colors, texture. finishing, stitches, finishing, other fine details etc. very well even after the sunset time. FINAL NOTE: Lids cap store: Today, there are many big and small shops all over this city, that sells the baseball cap style head gears. Some of them even make a custom design logo and one-of-a-kind picture by using multiple threads on site right in front of your eyes while you wait. One of such wonderful cap shop is Lids and it is located by the Times Square of Manhattan, New York. (The tightly mixed area is also called the Midtown West and Theater District.) Lids is not a huge place but how they use the very expensive commercial floor space so effectively is quite impressive. I highly recommend it.
