Now, if you want to fly to the UK and buy a balsa wood block there, then yes, you can get it cheaper. But if you're buying in the US, be prepared to pull out your credit card and cringe. Millinery is a dying art form and a very, very expensive craft. That's just the way it is. If you're in NY, this is the place to go to get a wide variety of felts/finishes/ribbons/anything else millinery-related.

After discovering Elissa's at a fair a few years ago, I started tracking their pop-up spots every summer weekend, schlepping all over the city for these modestly priced statement necklaces, delicate chandelier earrings, and large variety of expensive-looking bracelets that even fit my baby wrists. I love their selection of earring/necklace sets (usually around $20-25, as I seem to always waste valuable time in the early a.m. trying to coordinate jewelry before work. My searching and schlepping have fortunately subsided thanks to the opening of Elissa's awesome little boutique in the heart of the Village on Washington Place, right off 6th Ave next to Joy Burger.
